  1. I have been playing with the same pound for the past 10 days. I am doing what I am supposed to do so it will eventually have to come off. At least that is what I am telling myself.

    Any opinions about Paraguard?

I had a paragard for 3 months. It slipped too low. After a lot of bleeding& pain, I got it out. My midwife didn't believe the bleeding was from poor positioning even tho the strings were much llonger every month, I've never had unprotected sex& made me pay for an std panel. All clear. I'm concerned about uterine scarring. The insertion was fine. I had the cervix softening med, but after that I had contraction like pain, bled 10 days the 1st month, 14 days the 2nd, & all of January. No time for sex & was really inconvenient. My normal periods were 4 days. I'm starting the minipill& praying for no weight gain or negative effects.
  3. So I am officially on the no calorie liquid diet until midnight tonight, and I begin my life changing journey at 8 am tomorrow!!!
  4. It is so true that comparing yourself to others is not a good approach. It will only result in feelings of failure. That said, I am also one month out and have lost a total of 17 lbs. since surgery. However, I will be honest that like you, I have been exercising minimally. So, I made a resolution today to make the most of this very valuable tool (the sleeve) and really do my best for optimal results. So today was my first day back in the gym (I had only been walking before) and I hit the elliptical for 30 mins., did some lights weight for my arms, and about 10 mins in the steam room. I am going to do this at least 3x/week and see what kind of difference it makes. It is easy and convenient to just label yourself a "slow loser" and do the bare minimum. However, I think we owe it to ourselves to really push and make the most of the advantage we have with the sleeve to get optimal results. I want to succeed, and I know you do to. Now, after all this I still may not be the fastest or biggest loser. But what I will be is confident that I tried my best and put my best foot forward. So, do you wanna take this next step with me and take the "minimal" out of your exercise regimen? I have a feeling we will not be sorry. Here's to a fresh start!

    Got My Pre-Op Diet...oh Boy!

I won't actually start the diet until 10 days before surgery. My nutritionist just went over everything and gave me my meal plan because I won't see her again until after surgery.

    Start running?

Hi everyone, I had surgery 3/19 and have lost 14lbs. I have mainly walked 2 miles 4 times a week and want to increase my activity to start running again. When did people start more streneous excercise after their surgery? I tried to run for a minute or so the other day and got dizzy. I don't want to push it too soon but the loss has already help increase my energy level and want to get back to running. Thanks

    Quick Question...

I had asked my doctor and he told me that I can wet the scars one week after the surgery and that I can also go swimming. Well, it's 3,5 weeks since I had the surgery and I have alreday gone swimming in the sea 5 times and have no problem. I went swimming for the first time 10 days after the surgery. But it's better for you to apply to the scars a healing cream, like madecassol, so that they will heal faster.
  10. I never had really large breasts, they were an E cup (which is about a DD in US terms I believe, our cup sizes are a bit different) but becuase I'm 5ft 10, nobody would have said my boobs were a stand out feature. They were just kind of right for the height and weight I was. Since then they've shrunk to a C. The only reason I'm upset is that they're a mess, very droppy with a lot of stretch marks on top of them (from puberty). I was desperate for a time there, they were just awful and I couldnt show any cleavage or chest in anythign I wore becuase they just puddled there, the skin was all ripply and had no body or oomph to it, it was would move like Water, ick. But as they shrunk even more, that didnt go away but now they fit INSIDE everything, meaning I can show my chest again, but my boobs dont fall out of everything. I like smaller boobs, I want a lift but DH is (I think) angling for implants too but I wont do it, I have no desire to have big norgs, C is nice, there's a breast there, but it doesnt ruin clothes, grab attention etc. So shrinkage is a bonus from my point of view.
  11. I experienced this with my last fill. The first two weeks I was able to eat liquids, but on the third week it just got worst. I had everything you described. It turned out that my band was too tight so they removed some cc's. I agree with you its not a good feeling. I did loose about 19 lbs. which I know its not healthy because I couldn't eat anything for a couple of days. Go to your doctor ASAP. Loosing that much weight is not worth risking your health.

    FINALLY

I didn't have to do the 3 months diet but I was required to lose 10% of my weight before surgery. So I guess it could be better or worse - depending on how successful the diet is for each person... lol Either way - just glad I got approvod. Congratulations your date! It's great to know next summer we will be more comfortable in cute summer clothes (and a bathing suit).

    1400 calorie diet

You will get through it... We had to loose 10% of our weight before the insurance company would authorize payment. It was a sign of good faith and intention. Surgery is a tool not a cure all like I it went in thinking (like lipo or something like that) lol. I learned processed foods have no business in my house, let along in my body or kids. Also, I am a pretty awesome cook. Something I forgot after having a bunch of babies and letting my husband start cooking lol. Now I didn't give up food just food with no real purpose. You need to get ready to take in at least 60g+ of protein a day in a tiny tummy. I did have random cheat days but knew what the goal was. Oh and cheat day i mean BBQ =extra proteins lol. An example of my dinner before would be baked chicken breast Cup of broccoli with a bit of Italian dressing in it (kids live it) and only a couple spoonfuls of Rice o Roni (carb are bad). I gave up soda pop a while ago and I'm glad I did. I can only imagine what pain I'd be in if I drank it today. Breakfast heck I ate bacon and eggs (egg whites are less calories) and bacon but only 2-3strips not half the lbs like before. Yogurt and Greek yogurt were good for snack for lunch I had a bunch of light Progresso Soups and salad or sandwiches. Keep in mind some of the store bought salads can have as many calories as Burger so watch the calorie content. You're better off making it yourself and can probably do it better and dress it up by throwing your own grilled chicken or steak from the night before....I'd Google some 1400cal diet recipes and go from there. You got this

    Shorties

I'm 5'2" and my surgeon would be happy if I was at the highest weight for my height (136) and no longer "overweight" but all my Dr.'s are happy even now that I have lost the first 10% of my weight. According to my height of 5' 2" my ideal healthy weight is 122 pounds. Recommended weight range is between 109 and 136 pounds. I put in your stats... According to your height of 4' 11" your ideal healthy weight is 111 pounds. Your recommended weight range is between 98 and 123 pounds. Sex & Body Image Issues

Bwahahahaha! I nearly lost my coffee on that one! Thank you so much for that laugh, I really needed it ha~ As for the original question...I really have no words of wisdom, I am SERIOUSLY dealing with some major body image issues. These saggy, shriveled up A's make me want to cry daily. My stomach that has begun to wrinkle up makes me want to vomit. Thankfully my legs and arms shrunk pretty nicely but good night, underneath the shirt?! Psh. Aint nobody seeing that. And I have been married for 10 years :/ All I keep thinking is that I want a tummy tuck and boob job but then I think that I want more kids soooooo I have to put those on the back burner and figure out how to overcome feeling so disgusting. It doesn't help that if I mention plastics I get the evil eye from people telling me I don't need it. Uh yeah. That is called clothing and padded bras, they hide the ick pretty well.
  16. 16W is for Women's....which means it's larger for a "woman" than a regular size 16. If you shop at Lane Bryant (or similar store) which I'm sure most of us ladies do or have shopped there....all of their clothes are W's. I remember when I started putting on the weight....I could still fit into a size 16 Lane Bryant but I could not fit into any "regular" store 16's...and so it began 10 years ago!!! I am so excited to read these posts and KNOW that I can get back to the old me. I can't wait for people not to recognize me! ...for being skinny and not fat....I went through that too...that is horrible. CowgirlJane - you inspire me!!!!!
  17. Good habit to break. I was not a night eater and I'm grateful because even months later eating solid food at night isn't possible. It fires my acid reflux. I usually go to bed at 10 and my last food is at 7. I don't get hungry during the night but I'm ready to eat in the morning. And that 3 hours is enough time that the reflux does not happen.

    Feeling A Little Guilty...only A Little.

Liz, I agree with Oregondaisy in that if your doc believes in evidence-based medicine, then using statistics like the long-term failure and weight regain of diet and exercise alone versus surgery is something that shouldn't be overlooked by him. But having said that, maybe he's just following a conservative (and entirely reasonable) treatment plan that ensures you really have tried several other options and that you're fully capable of adhering to the relatively permanent change in lifestyle/eating behaviors that WLS entails. Maybe it's because you're "only" 25. (although, in all honesty, I wish I'd done this 10 yrs ago myself!) In any case, I think at some point you still do need to fill your PCP in on what's going on. After all, you still could develop other general medical issues even after a successful sleeve (severe acid reflux, gallbladder issues, Vitamin deficiencies, etc, etc.), that your PCP should be involved with, and keeping him in the loop on your surgery can help with earlier diagnosis and appropriate treatment of those issues, if needed. Just my 2 cents from being recently sleeved. Best of luck to you in reaching your goals. Hope to see you here with us on the losers bench soon!

    1st fill vs vacation??

BlueGem, I did i did!!! i got my first fill March 19, and flew across the country (6 hours on a plane) March 21st. I had a 1.5 fill in a 10 ccband. i chewed some dramamine an hour before getting on the plane (the chewable kind not regular kind..lol) and i was fine the whole trip. i was on liquids the day of the fill and the next day then moved tomushies the day after. i was eating solid food the day i arrived home. never had any nausea. BUT .... everyone is different. Just wanted to tell you that i did it, same time period too roughly and i was groovy.
  20. I know, I can hear the comments already but I am frustrated with the wait for my paperwork to be received by my WLS doctor. I had to have a stress test-14 June , then wait while the doc went on vacation-10 July, and now wait on them to finish the paperwork and mail to my WLS doc! I'm calling the WLS coordinator again on Tuesday with the fervent hope that all paperwork is received and I can be scheduled for my final consult with the surgeon. It will be a miracle if I can have my WLS in August. Sigh.

    I squeezed into a size 10....

Crishell; That was me, in the car when we left the store I got a little teary eyed. Hubby had no clue what was going on and I couldn't really put it into words. I felt like I could hear Marvin Sapp's "Never would have made it" was playing in the background. Me a size 10, couldn't be, can't be. I thought something must be wrong with the pants, or maybe they're cut really big. It took A while for my mind to grasp it.
  22. To all of you saying that you "failed" with the band - try to see it in a different light. Unless you knowingly ate too much or ate incorrectly, irped the food back up, then tried again until it stayed down, you didn't fail. Unless you opted to eat ice cream all day because it's what you wanted, then you didn't fail. Having a mechanical device that is supposed to give you fast satiety, but never does, is not failure. In reality, it's having gone through surgery with high hopes, and finding you still have to "diet" to maintain weight or lose weight. Having a band that maybe worked for a while, then failed, is also not you failing - it's you not having the ability or resolve to "do it on your own" but why would having had surgery change that? If we could do it on our own, we would have long before surgery... and definitely would have long before a second (or third, or fourth...) surgery. The sleeve cannot have the same issues as the band. The sleeve cannot slip (prolapse), it cannot erode through your esophagus, etc. It can limityour intake. You will still have to work at it. Since it is not (or maybe just lightly) a malabsorptive procedure, you will still have to own what you eat. If you cannot own what you eat, then frankly the sleeve might not be the best option. I'm pretty far post-op by band standards. I know a lot of people in the 5 - 7 years post-op range. Those who still have their bands, shouldn't, but are too afraid it will be removed to seek the medical care they need. It has let down a lot of people, and mentally is about a 30x magnification of the standard diet "failure" emotions we've all experienced more times than we care to count. I suspect I will spend the first 6 months with my sleeve "just waiting" for it to somehow fail. I mean, 100% of my bariatric experience tells me that eventually, it stops working, right? But try to focus on the fact that the band is not PERMANENT. Ok, in theory it's intended to be a permanent device. I'll give it that. I don't know anyone 5, 7, 10 years out who still has theirs, so it's not THAT permanent. Every sleeved person I know 5, 7, 10 years out still has their sleeve. I understand your fears, and I share them. We have "failed" at weightloss most of our lives. We "expect" failure again, it's what we've become conditioned to. But if you didn't at least have hope, you wouldn't be here, so run with it.
  23. Thanks Liliana... I am probably stressing too much but my doctor, though very good and a kind man is a little non commital so its hard to guage if he is posative or negative about a situation. It worried me when I asked how weight loss is for bandits after sleeving and he said " some lose weight some bounce back and forth and others maintain, it depends" when I asked what he meant he said " its relative to each patient." So to not look like a complete uneducated dummy I accepted his statement but I am still not completely clear on what he is saying... other than a shoulder shrug answer so as not to commit either way. He feels I dont need to lose any weight but mearly maintain but since having the band removed I have gained 10 on the 10 I had gained towards the end of my band life making a total of 20 gained.... I personally would like to squeeze off ASAP at least 10 preferably 15 ( 20 is way too low for my face I look drained) I am worried now that weight loss might not happen.... Hopefully after looking at your stats I am just being a pork chop and carrying on like a sooky la la. I lost 70 kilos with the band and all I want is 10/15 with the sleeve then maintain...The whole exband thing seems to be the problem
  24. I am 5 days into the liquid diet before the second screening. I have an ugly day tomorrow that includes a 6 mile walk and being away from my house for 10 hours. Panicking on how to stay on track. Did they go through everyday of the food diary at the second visit?
