  1. Is it possible to drink water “to quickly”. At the end of the day when I realize I didn’t drink enough I take big gulps (no air) every 5-10 minutes just to get the full 64oz in that day. And I didn’t know if it was going to do any harm. I mean obviously it’s easier to drink it throughout the day. But I’m a caregiver and i guess I’m to focused on helping them to make sure I drink the whole 64oz.
  2. I had the sleeve done 4/23, I'm still on liquid diet. I'm so confused, because i hear about the "honeymoon period" where you're not hungry at all, and this hasn't been my experience AT ALL!!! I feel like im starving. Also, in the last few days, liquid has been going down so much easier! Too easy?!? I can drink 8-10 oz of broth in one short sitting. Am i stretching out my pouch already? And I do not have trouble at all meeting my water goals. I put mio (calorie free flavor) in my water, and i can drink it just fine! I mean not CHUG IT, but i can do a decent gulp without it hurting my stomach like it did in the first few days. Is this bad?!? I don't see my surgeon again until the 9th (6 more days). February 2019 weight loss buds

I think you should be flattered. I haven't had anyone look my way since becoming so heavy. About 30 pounds less than I am now, I stopped into a convenience store before work. A guy came up to me and said, your beautiful and said I should join the site BBW=big beautiful women. Not a hit since, about 10 years ago. Lol I've been married 33 years so I'm not interest in flattery. Congrats on your weight loss Eveything!

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Hey all, I got my date yesterday for VSG on 6/4 and I am...in disbelief. I’ve struggled my whole life as many can relate to here. I did lose a large amount of weight in my late teens and 20s but after an accident that stopped my workouts and having kids and emotionally eating though a lot of sh&$ in the last 10-15 years I am bigger than ever and this was my last hope. I am excited and a little scared but ready to not be obese anymore. I started almost 18 months ago. 1 insurance change, 1 hospital change and 3 doctors later, I have a plan and a date.
  6. I found this article online and thought it would be good to share Have a great day all you Amazing People! The 'Skinny' on drinking with meals and weight loss after surgery I have heard many times from new patients to our program that they have a friend, co-worker or family member who has had weight loss surgery and were never told not to drink with their meals. My question is always, “How are they doing with their weight loss?” Although success with weight loss surgery is not achieved with just one behavior modification or diet choice, drinking with meals is a problematic behavior. Not drinking with meals and not drinking for 30 minutes following a meal is one of the best pieces of advice I could provide to a patient to help them lose weight, regardless as to if they have had bariatric surgery or not. Many of us are familiar with the famous Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest every July 4th in which contestants compete to see how many hot dogs they can eat in a 10-minute period. These contestants not only train for this event, they have a strategy to win it. Although difficult for some of us to watch, you’ll find that that strategy includes soaking the hot dog and bun in liquid to allow for the faster transit of food and better compression of food into the stomach cavity. This is followed by a sip of liquid. Although the issue for postsurgical patients is not about compacting food, or getting food to pass quickly, (we’re talking about a ¾ cup of food not 61 hot dogs), the benefit of not drinking with the meal is two-fold and clearly a great tool for weight loss. Reasons For Not Drinking With Meals - Stay Full Longer. First, by allowing food to sit in the stomach longer, which happens when food is not mixed with liquid, the patient experiences more fullness and the signal is sent to the brain that it’s time to stop eating. Second, when liquid is added to solid food and mixes with stomach acids, the food literally liquefies faster and moves from the stomach down into the intestine at an accelerated rate. With the stomach emptying faster, and the feeling of fullness not being truly experienced, both physical and emotional hunger return more quickly. This begins the cycle of increasing the amount of food the patient is able to eat (physical) as well as the patient’s need to eat more (emotional), sabotaging a patient’s weight loss success. Not drinking with your meals is a good tool for all of us trying to lose weight. One of my patients shared with me that when she was preparing for weight loss surgery, her spouse asked how he could be supportive of her as she moved through the process. Her one and only request to him was that he also not drink with the meals they shared together. Because of their schedules, this generally meant just one meal a day. That said, during the six months of her preparation process, with just this one change at this one meal, he lost 10 pounds. Thankfully, she lost a few more pounds than he did as that might have been a sore subject, but I share this story often to demonstrate the importance of this one behavior change that can truly make a difference when trying to lose weight. 7. 72 pounds in 10 months is an incredible victory! Most of my weight is in my belly as well, and my thighs. My mid section started growing steadily after my hysterectomy, until I topped out at where I’m at now: 282.
  8. I had my hysterectomy in 2017 and my sleeve in 2018. I'm down 72 pounds but I'm an incredibly slow loser (10 months out). The weight is concentrated in my belly pooch, but it is going down incrementally and steadily.

    Post your progress pics!

I had the sleeve on 10/30/18 and I was 268 lbs then, 6 months later and I’m down 72 lbs weighing 196 🙌
  10. These used to fit me normally, like tights do. This is how they fit me now. I had my surgery on Jan 22, 2019. weight lost.mp4

Ten month before and after pics

Thank you! Yes, I stayed the same for about three months but I was happy with where I was so I didn't care much. I think I lost another 10 within the past 2-3 months but I don't weigh myself regularly. I know it sounds strange, but I swear when I started eating more I saw that I lost more weight or at least stayed the same!

    Pounds lost

Hello, 10 months post op RNY and have lost 78 lbs since surgery and 95 since starting program. Things have definitely slowed down but then again I am closer to goal so makes sense. I started this journey at 61 so expected to be a slower loser! I have been dieting since I was 12 and was never able to sustain any weight loss so I am still cautiously optimistic! Hoping I can be successful at maintaining too! I am noticing my neck getting loose skin if anybody knows of a good firming cream! 😁 HW 257 SW 240 CW 162 Height 5’5”

    I can’t date overweight people

Totally understand where you're coming from. I'll be 35 this year. Been big most my life haven't had a partner since high school been a very independent single male for like ever. Unlike women, men can have children at any age where the female clock can stop at 40. I've never had any luck with dating at my size even though I know there's many big guys with wife and kids and all that good stuff, I'm not sure how they are able to do all that and it has made me sad at times you know because I came from a huge family and love kids and hope to be a dad some day. I feel now I'm looking at surgery it is the perfect time for me to finally get my life back on track. Lose the weight. Get healthy and fit then find a nice girl and start a family... As mentioned earlier it is harder to find a girl as you get older because most have a bunch of kids or baggage but I've already decided because I want a big family I'll definitely have to look at ladies about 10 years below me so that there's no issues with them having children as if I hope to have 4 children that could take up top 10 years! I also feel much younger at heart and have to remind myself exactly how old I am sometimes and in that way I feel I relate to younger girls much better I'm in no hurry to grow old whilst I still enjoy being young and fun and after losing the weight my body will match my personality It's not so much the overweight person it's the personality if a person is negative and pessimistic that would annoy me much more than someone just being fat, because a big girl May be open to your help and if they know you've been through the same thing and can help them that may help even if you meet the fittest person they will never understand where you came from... Like a bigger person will. also there's many stages of overweight, a girl can be curvaceous and only be like 50lbs over which is much different to someone whose 400+lbs keep an open mind
  16. @Megan Sadler how is it going with the Hashimoto's? I was diagnosed with it about 10 years ago.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

I’m on clear liqiid till Thursday May 9 which would be 10 days on it. My program feels extremely conservative compared to others but atleast I didn’t have to do liquid diet pre op like I’ve seen many others.

    VSG Post Op Report

Post Op Day 35: Well folks... this thing called life has kept me from posting days 8 - 34, but I can tell you I'm down 40 pounds and working. My biggest struggles or should I say my biggest change is that I have to pace myself and not over do it. That and getting enough water in. Once I'm at work I tend to get busy and forget to drink my alloted amount each day, but I'm still managing to get in 40-50oz a day. Getting enough water in is key as it will help with constipation. Our golf league started earlier this week and I felt as though I was a bit tuckered out after about 6 holes. I have zero pain at this point and life is good. Some big adjustments to lifestyle, but my main goal was a healthy lifestyle, no diabetes, better mobility and hoping to extend my life by 10 years Hope everyone else is pain free and enjoying life ! ! ! Considering Surgery

I’m happy with my looks and I have no health issues, so I had to think long and hard whether it’s worth it or not. I came to the conclusion that my quality of life with obesity is so low that the risks of surgery don’t seem that bad in comparison. So my bypass is 10 days away now. So basically, think of what your life is like. Is your current weight something you can live with? Or do you think you can lose it without surgery? If the answer is no then this could be the right path:) good luck 💕

Where are my 5ft tall peeps at?

I'm a 5' 0" tall peep or should I say shrimp - and a goal weight was never discussed. I am aiming for 130 pounds which might be too heavy for my frame. However, feeling great and almost ½ my size 4 months out... So, no complaints here! Like NYC Paula said, I will continue to monitor and evaluate as weight lowers. I'll also use visual cues and clothing size in helping to reach a goal weight perfect for my age, body type and psyche. That said, I just love my sleeve and how it has transformed AND that makes me feel 10 feet tall! ;]

    ❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Sitting out on the beach with a Margarita---that count's right? Day 2 and no junk food for me--also added coffee creamer to the list of no-go items for the 10 days, since that more than any candy, pasta, or bread is my true weakness. No if someone would just wrestle these Brazil nuts from me, I might lose some weight!

    Approved UHC Medicare Advantage

I am so impatient. I just called UHC and asked about my prior auth and she said I was approved as of 4/30. I called Anita, my insurance nurse, and left her a message. I'm so excited and hoping now some of my anxiety and stress will diminish. For stats if anyone is wondering, this was my process: *6 mo physician supervised diet/exercise *5 years of BMI (didn't have to be over 35) *my co-morbids are osteoarthritis, GERD, borderline DM, borderline hypertension, borderline high cholesterol *my submitted BMI was 37 (I maintained my weight for 6 months, didn't try to lose weight) *cardiac clearance *psych clearance **didn't need sleep clearance because I don't have apnea Started process in November 2018 Final clearance was 4/16 Submitted to UHC on 4/19 Approved by UHC on 4/30 with no denials
