Care to share any lap band stories?
IndioGirl55 replied to IAMWORTHIT's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Jennifer - Yes you are worth it !!! I love my band for the great tool it is - I love me for doing the work that it take to lose the weight - I am 7 months out 76 lbs lighter. Feel 200% better and 10 yrs younger. I eat healthy 98% of the time - I exercise 3-5 days a week depending on my schedule - For me it hasn't been that hard - I went thru major surgery to get this tool - so my head is totally in the game - I know that I must make a lifetime lifestyle change in my eating and exercise habits - this is not a diet but a new way of life. It's not the magic cure to our issues with food but it is a geart tool to help control your portions. All you have to do is eat healthy and add exercise into your life and you will do great. For lunch had 1/2 soft taco - and brought my chilli relleno home for dinner - well guess what - I didn't want it -I wanted fish & veggies - so that's what I ate - I am no craving healthy foods .... Good Luck on your journey... -

Hi all, I spoke with the infectuous disease doc today and the surgeon, and after being on Levaquin for 4 days my fevers still go up to 99.+ so....since the infection from my port has traveled up the tubing to the band, the band has to come out in order for all to heal properly. I have had a love/hate relationship with my band since Aug. 6th 2003 when I entered bandland. Despite the ups and downs, the pb'ings, too tight fills, too loose fills, things getting stuck, etc. I was glad to have lost almost 90lbs and had this experience and gained health and self confidence back. I am not sure if I will get rebanded, or opt to have the gastric sleeve done at a later time (at this point I don't qualify), but I thought my band would last forever and I am kind of sad. I am convinced that an improper fill proceedure in March '10 cause this entire fiasco, so please make sure that whoever does your fills does them properly, and INSIST on that they wear gloves, and use more than one needle if they can't get access to your port the first time!!!!!! I have an open wound that is healing, and now I have to lose my band. I am so upset, but make sure you are proactive when your fills are being done!!!!!

It happened to my friend who was banded two weeks before me. She has pcos, and after she was almost 4 months post op and down 40 lbs, she started ovulating and became pregnant without knowing!!!! She had two previous pregnancies using fertility drugs and her twins were only 9 months old when she found out she was pregnant again. Soooooo, yes, it can happen once you have lost some weight.

I have polycystic ovarian disorder and haven't cycled in over 12 years, had the lap band on November 25, 2008 and have lost quite a little bit of weight now. Today after all this time I started my cycle, I'm a little freaked out, has anyone else here went through this, my doctor said with the hormones straightening out after the weight loss and all that it could happen, just didn't expect it yet.

Help! I have just come through Thanksgiving and a trip to Celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I actually gained two pounds. I can eat anything and in quite large quantities. My husband just looks at me after a meal and says -- "I guess this didn't work for you". It is so disheartening Has anyone taken 3 or more fills to feel restriction?

I am getting the Realize band in 5 days... my wife and I are getting banded on the same day. We've been on the pre-op diet for 3 days, and I've already lost 3 lbs. I've read horror stories about ALL of the different weight-loss surgeries (not just banding), but I seem to hear many more positive stories than negative. That's really all I have to go on. My doctor chose the newest Realize for me, and he's had gastric bypass himself, so I feel that he knows what he's doing. My wife and I are both excited... I'm a little more nervous than she is, since I've never had any kind of surgery before. Wish us luck! Doodle

Any Bandsters North of Boston
zkelleybelly replied to zkelleybelly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Arlene, I won't hold it against it against you for living in another time one. lol. Wow, you are almost at your goal. Sugar is my problem is why I can't get the rest of my weight. With the rny you get violently I'll when you have sugar. That is what they suggested to me. I didn't want that. 2014 is our year to hit our goal. Keep up the good work. Maybe we can lean on each other. Donna -
YES!!!! I agree with everything you just said!!! I went to www.Room42.com and did my calculations there. It said that at my current weight, I need to eat 1600 calories a day to maintain my weight, 1400 to lose, but no less than 1200 to have safe and healthy weight loss. It even told me how much I can expect to lose over how many days (I forgot to write it down) AND I did the calculation for my calorie intake at my goal weight. To maintain my goal weight I need 1400 calories a day, 1200 to lose but no less than 1000 (I think it said). So the 1400 clories a day I'm eating now will make me lose weight, but if I don't decrease it down the road, I'll simply maintain it. So, anyhow, I will slowly be eating less and less in order to lose weight. The more I lose, the less I need to eat in order to lose more (like that's a surprise). Anyhow, I thought that was interesting. Last time I checked my body fat (about a year ago at around 235 pounds) it was 43%. Uggg!! I wonder wonder wonder what it is now? Ya'll make me want to know!!

I'm at perfect tightness--but my eating is in a rut! Some ideas, please...
make33 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm coming up on a year with my Band and I feel terrific, having lost 60+ pounds. I'm at the perfect tightness and I quite think I'm going to maintain around this weight. My problem? I'm having trouble coming up with anything different to eat day-to-day! I have 2 Protein shakes, one for Breakfast and one mid-afternoon to make sure I'm getting my protein numbers. I DO generally have yogurt or a cheese stick mid-morning. Then I have a mini-meal at lunch (1/4 cup leftovers, i.e. baked Beans, spaghetti, sloppy joe) and about 15 wheat thins (or other crackers). My real problem is with dinner: I find I have such trouble with EVERY type of meat except ground meat--cannot do chicken, beef, or pork--and I am even at the point that I can't do refried beans. Of course, no breads, but I can easily do meatloaf, hamburger, sloppy joe, spaghetti, chili. But then I find myself eating potato chips and dip as a side dish! (They go down so easily!) My dear husband, who really really roots for me, even mentioned tonight how many times he's noticed that I'm eating chips and dip for dinner--and that can't be right--it's easy, but I KNOW I've got to get away from it! I have trouble with mashed potatoes and mac & cheese--should I just steam the heck out of vegetables? I'm still losing--but I KNOW I've got to go for nutrition. What do you long-time banders have daily?? :tt2: -
OK MAD AGAIN!!! different topic

I went to a local weight loss support group too and got the same response by the leader of the group who worked for the local bypass office. She didn't believe I had lost so much with the band in such a short time and just seemed condesending. I never went back either. -
Lisa, I'm in the same boat. I got out of my excercise routine when I got that nasty dog bite and haven't been able to motivate myself since. Even my family doctor nagged me about getting my weight loss going again. I haven't gained but have definitely stayed the same. Everyone even keeps telling me I look like I've lost but I have to admit that I haven't. I try to explain it away as toning up. LOL. I need to get back on the program. I still pb too often and have a tough time eating before noon but I have been a chocolate hog all summer. I've been avoiding the computer too (I've been working too hard and always feel too tired and behind to even turn the thing on). Glad to see your still here and I promise to get on here longer soon. Love and hugs, Teresa

All bandsters know that our weight loss journey has nothing to do with numbers on the scale. That is why we have (yipee) non-scale victories! Why do our goals find themselves on the right hand side of some bad-assed ticker software? I need to hear Non-Scale-Goals!

Have you tried lettuce wraps? I make mine with ground chicken, mushrooms and water chesnuts. I add a little soy, oyster sauce etc. I found the recipe by googling Pei Wei lettuce wraps. They're good and easy to eat. I also do a lot of Thai and Chinese because I can do strong flavors and I eat with chop sticks. Makes me slow down! LOL Also, I make couscous with lots of minced veggies, sometimes I add a little minced chicken for protein. I like a strong vinegar taste and this fits the bill. Good luck and I'm impressed with your weight loss. -
Well, I'm waiting and waiting and waiting. My surgeon had a couple of big cases this morning that took longer than expected, so my surgery keeps getting bumped back to a later time. Hopefully I go in about 20 minutes. Sure hope I've made the right decision because there is no turning back now! I'm not really nervous, feel calm about the surgery itself. Just a little apprehensive of adding the post op pain to my normal pain. I'll report in tomorrow. Using my husband's laptop right now and he will be taking it with him when he leaves the hospital in a few hours. Anyway, I hope all of you are doing well. Ladydreadhead, I think your day is tomorrow. Good luck. I don't have time to check for any others, but I do wish all of you good health and low pain. And lots of weight loss!

Are most of you just happy to get to a healthy BMI or do you have an ultimate fantasy goal? I think I would be happy to get to a 25 BMI but I will be honest.....I would REALLY love to be back to my pre-fat days weight. Is that realistic? Have many of you reached that ultimate goal? Thanks for any insight.
-
My goal is 110-114 (BMI 19-20) because I have a really bad back (I have big boobs). But I know that I will have loose skin at that weight. Or my other goal is 123 and a breast reduction. Haven't decided yet.

You'll definitely want to check with your own doctor because they all have their own rules and ideas what works best. As for myself, I was told to stay within a cup or less per meal from the very beginning. Not to lose weight but to get used to staying within band sized portions and (as TMF pointed out) so I didn't stretch my stomach. Regardless of what the rest of us have done, just stick to whatever your surgeon recommends. Best wishes. -
Hi Sherri; Been there...very common, however mostly from what I understand the Gallbladder problems generally start after you have lost the weight, not before hand. My GP told me before I even started losing the weight that I would have gallstones within the first year or so...he was correct. I have stones, but the bile in the gallbladder itself is still clear and thin, which means that it isn't necessary to have it removed yet. It inevitable though. I am just hoping that I am able to lose the remainder for my weight first and then have the op. I have been putting it off for about a year, so here's hoping. I find that as long as I stay away from anything naughty...like chocolate....I am AOKAY! Hope that this helps and good luck with the banding. I have been banded for 3+ years...and 125lbs lost. POPT Tracey

I was banded 7-05 and in Dec I had my gall Bladder removed. Trust me when you have those attacks the idea of another surgery is worth it. My attacks would come out of nowhere and I handle pain very well but when they hit I was on the floor crying like a baby and I looked like a fish flopping around-It felt like something was tearing my insides out(childbirth was a breeze compared to this). My doc said it was because of the weight loss-I had an ultrasound and he thought it might have some sludge but when he took that joker out it was full of tiny stones. The surgery wasnt that bad I left the hospital the same day and in 2 days I was up truckin again!
