    Hi, I'm new

Hi Jamie. I am new also and am still researching the band. I just wanted to say welcome. I was told by my OB that I 'may' have PCOS....he didn't really seem too worried about it. I am going for another appt w/ a different OB for another opinion. Also go next week for my info session w/ the band surgeon. Hope you find lots of info here at this site. J

Replace bad addictions with healthy addiction!

I did the same thing. Now I'm trying to take it down a notch and incorporate being active into my everyday like. I now aim for 4 -6 days a week instead, but also aim to hit at 8 -12 k on my activity tracker each day. That means doing the usual things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, parking farther away in the parking lot, etc...

    can't band at my bmi

Delo, that's what my DW does to get things moving again. She noticed the difference after a couple of fills. Her doctor wants her to do a week of liquids and a week of mushies. She would drop quite a few pounds doing it that way, so now, when she stalls out, she'll do liquids for a few days and it gets the ball rolling again.
  4. For the guys out there (and gals) that were worried about if they could ever eat a normal portion of a food or drink after their sleeve, for my experience its yes. I'm four weeks out from surgery and never had any food or drink issues. Today I downed a whole 11 oz Protein shake with ease with no bad feeling afterward. Also I'm having normal portions of things like roast beef and fish. Mind you I've now been trained to eat slower and I'm paying attention to properly chewing things. Maybe its were I'm still eating softer foods...but I'm moving more toward my protein goals from foods from shots and shakes...which is great. The atkins bars make for a great high protein snack and greek vanilla yogurt. My diet for this week will consist of deli turkey breast dipped in spicy mustard maybe wrapped in 2% milk cheese, denty moore beef stew, campbells chunky Soups, frozen fish and salmon, canned chili. My sleeve absolutely loves WHEAT THINS...has for over a week now. I guess its where it chews up into a nice mush. For the folks who loved meat before, the post op diet is going to fill right back into track.... thought I'd share that! Worm
  5. My doctor told me I could take my Celebrex 2x a week and it is a nsaid. Just to remove it from it's capsule and mix in some applesauce. It's not pleasant, but have to have it for my ankles to be able to walk. It really is up to the particular surgeon you have.

    pre-op help

I'm still on my first week of my pre-op diet. Mainly liquids with one low fat/carb meal. After I eat that one meal I get horrible pains in my stomach. Tonight I had 2 egg beaters and 1/2 of an english muffin. Soon after, my stomach gets horrible pains. What is this???

    Pain drinking anything...3 days out

I don't know about your plan, but Protein shakes will go toward my daily liquid goal. So if you drank 60 oz of Protein shakes, you got 60 oz of liquids. Also, my NUT said that for the first week post op, drinking Water is the priority, to help avoid dehydration.
  8. Sara, You just have to look at the benefits and the risks. I would say the benefits outnumber the risks. I already had to have emergency surgery not even 2 weeks out from banding....but I still say the benefits will so be worth it!!!!!!
  9. ok thanks guys... I have an appointment next week with family doctor to get referrel, then to surgeon hopefully soon, i have been to a seminar , but of course they don't really concentrate on the problems that could happen. I am really thinking I will do it as long as insurance approves the procedure.

    Dilated pouch

I believe it can self correct if you are unfilled for a few weeks. Its very hard to not overeat with a band. I mean, you dont overeat to the point of taking in too many calories, but to stop the very second you feel the signal, that is hard. I consistently shove in a mouthfull or two more. .

3 weeks after tummy tuck. Lots of swelling and one drain in still, but I couldn't be happier!
  14. I don't see anything wrong with it, except the recommendation for packaged meals. My surgeon has 2, 4 and 6 week pre-op diets and I guess it depends on your current health as to what one you'll need to go on.

    What's going on?

I actually stalled early. After day 14, my weight didn't budge even .1 lb for 5 days. I greatly increased my water intake and thankfully the stall stopped. Just do your best getting in lots of fluids, and just be reassured that it is normal.
  16. Rev Me Up!

    What's going on?

The dreaded 3-5 week stall strikes again! There are tons of posts about it if you look back through the threads. Best thing to do is focus on hydration, Protein, and healing. Put the scale away for at least 10 days and you should have a little bit of a loss in a couple of weeks. Don't drive yourself crazy by weighing everyday. Good luck!!
  17. Hi, my surgery date was June 6, and I've lost 32 lbs. I was at a plateau for about a week, but I'm losing again so, I am happy about that. I'm taking the Premier Protein shake, but I'm kind of getting board with them. What Protein shakes are you taking? Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

    In shock

It's my Dad in shock not me.... The oldies came for lunch today and we were having homemade savory pasties and strawberry piklets with cream cheese and honey, all the healthy low fat versions but none of which I could eat or felt like eating today. Dad keeps saying but one wont hurt. He just has not grasped the concept of what I've done and why would anyone do that 2 themselves:confused: when I said I haven't eaten any bread or pastry or steak or... any of his daily stples I thought The shock nearly killed him:eek:. The father inlaw said, " Well when you lose the weight you can get taken off and properly again"????????????????????????? I have tried to explain but realisse that these 2 old dogs aren't up to learning any new tricks at this stage. I spose these 2 represent a growing number in my immediate circle who can't comprehend the sacrifices I am willing to make because now I can really see the bigger picture. & it's not my bum in a photo again. Between them they have decided Christmas day will not be worth living if they have to have it at my house because there will be no food, All this said as they chow down on the pasties and piklets while I have a shake.... These two are nuts:w00t: Still at least that means someone else can shop, clean and cook all day instead of me. Other than that have had a great day and their reactions have made me laugh:lol: ONLY ! WEEK OF HOLIDAYS 2GO Cheers Chooky
  19. I am a smoker to... Its hard to quit a hand to mouth addiction like smoking when u cant put food hand to mouth. I habe been on Chantix for a couple of months but I was only taking it once a day,.it helped me cut back a lot. 2 weeks ago my mom, a smoker of 40.yrs, was diagnosed with cancer of.the kidney. Kidney cancer is linked to smoking, I know I was shocked to, & its also hereditary. So none the less I increased it to 2 times a day, like ur supposed to take it, & I am down to 1~2 cigs a day. Fact is u wont be sucessful with quitting unless u r.totally prepared for it. U have to do it for urself! Just like getting the lap band to help u loose weight & be healthy... Only u can make those decisions... I have sucessfully quit in the past, for 4 months, but for.some silly reason I started again. I rember how good I felt & how nice it was to be able to walk up a flight of stairs without being winded! Its well worth it, its just hard to get there Hang in there everyone, who is trying to quit that is
  20. I would love to hear your experience with the hospital and the doctors. I am going to a seinar next week for dr stephen merola and dr armando castro. Thank you

    4/2

Well poke a badger with a spoon :phanvan I was worried about not getting a fill until 3/27 well, now it's not until 4/2. That's one day short of 5 weeks. whew... give me the strength to control myself for that long. I think I'll be ok but I'm afraid overdoing it once is all that it will take... hopefully that knowledge will keep me in line. I forgot my lunch today so i went to a mex place with friend and got grilled chicken and beans. Ate half and boxed up the rest. Since I have been walking on my lunch break and knew I would be able to today, I walked once around the building this a.m. and plan to go again this afternoon.

    Filled last week...

Daisydoodle, I have the larger band and had my 5th fill this week. I have pretty good restriction now, but up until then I had none at all. Dont be disheartened, a couple more fills and you will be fine. Im lucky my Dr lets me come in each week until I have restriction.
