  1. I have acid reflux sometimes like maybe once a month. But also could it be that there's less of a revision rating bc there's nothing really to revise to? Except the duo switch but I hear that has alot of complications and you basically have horrible diarrhea for the rest of your life so not many ppl want to revise to that Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
  2. I had severe acid reflux (GERD) and that was the main determinant on why I had RNY gastric bypass surgery. The sleeve will only make this condition worst. Also gastric bypass had one of the lowest revision rates. If I went under the knife once, I sure didn't want to do it again.
  3. Hi Nicki, I'm having revision from lapband to bypass and I can tell you, I wish I would have just gone with the bypass to begin with. For me, the gas pains from having the lapband was terrible and I'm not looking forward to that again and the lapband didn't work at all for me. I do have a sweet tooth so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I dump to keep me away from those foods, not that I'm even thinking of having those things anytime soon after my surgery. Ultimately the choice is yours and you have to do what makes you feel comfortable. Good luck in your journey!!! Heather Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. Thanks, but I kind of want the added restrictions and giving up things forever that way I'm not as tempe in the future to have them. I'm terrified of regaining and not maintaining and eating foods that I shouldn't just because I can. So if I can't I feel like that's good for me. Also I like that I have the option of revision but I'd prefer to only have one surgery Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

Trying to decide bypass vs sleeve

As a sleever (9 months out), I give the procedure my highest recommendation. I have lost 85% of what I want to lose, and I am confident the rest will come off. The sleeve is not just safer, but it does not force you to give up as many things forever. The main difference is carbs/sweets. While you will not want to have too much of these foods at any point in the future, the consequences of having some will not be as drastic. That said, an option for you would be to go have the sleeve, see what it does for you, and then if you are not satisfied with the progress after a year or two, you can go back and have a revision. It depends what your weaknesses are...mine weren't sweets, so the consensus was that sleeve would produce the same benefits as bypass. Your analysis may be very different. Congratulations on getting started!

I revised from the lapband to bypass.

    SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION

I'm really glad I found this thread. My story, had the sleeve in July 2014 at 300 pounds, got down to 210 by July of the following year but have been stuck there since. Gain & lose the same 5 pounds no matter what I do. Have tried increasing/decreasing calories, switching up exercising - you name it I've tried it but I'm stuck and frustrated. It seems like my body decided 210 was the weight it wants to stay at. I never had the big weight loss from the sleeve like I expected. When people were dropping big weight in the beginning months, my was coming off at a snails pace. I also never felt like I had the tight restriction most people spoke about. When we started eggs, most were like "I can only eat a couple bites" and I could eat 1 without any issues and not feel full. I honestly didn't feel like I even had a surgery. I can eat anything without issues and more of it at a time than I ever thought I would be able to after the sleeve surgery. So I'm not looking at possibly going for a revision from sleeve to bypass, but I have a couple questions for those that have been through it. What is your restriction from the pouch like compared to the sleeve? What was your starting weight when you had the revision and how much have you been able to lose since the revision? Do you have any issues with foods after the bypass that you didn't have with the sleeve? Do you regret the revision or happy with your results? I appreciate any feedback you can give me. Thanks, Tracy

    Approval!

I just had my revision from band to sleeve done in South Florida and total was 10600.

    Confused and frustrated....

Livendanow16, no i still have the band. It has been completely emptied. The goal is to remove the band and do the revision all at the same time. Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App

I called, they said it's still being put into the system and they have 30 days, unless your office submits it as urgent, ughhhSent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App Oh crap. That really, really sucks. I feel for you. I'm a very anxious person by nature and a total worry wart. And our cases, being revisions, are a bit more complex and expensive which i am sure bcbs isn't quick to approve. It may be a longer wait for me too and not so fast like my husband's.Update, recalled bcbs today in the afternoon, got a much nicer operator, she apologized for it taking so long and said give them another few days and I should have a answer by next week, now that's more like it, even if that isn't true, its at least what I want to hear. Confused and frustrated....

I did not have success with the band and having the revision to sleeve on 6/21/16. I have been doing research and it seems in my opinion and my doctors that is the way to go Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  13. Hi, I'm curious as to what insurance you have that approved the revision? I have BCBS Fed and I'm terrified they will deny me. I have heard that the insurance companies come back saying that the removal/revision is not medically necessary. Altho I do not have a slipped band or a hiatal hernia at this time, I wish I did. Then perhaps my insurance will approve it. Ugh. How are you doing now? You are almost a week out and I hope you are doing well. Let us know
  14. There is a forum on here for revisions.I revised from lapband to bypass after years of torture and failure with that darn lapband!Revising to RNY was the best decision ever!!!
  15. OK, well after reading this thread, I'm not feeling real good about my own chances of: 1. being approved for band to sleeve revision and 2. waking up sleeved as I hope. My surgeon said that he usually does it in 2 surgeries as it is safer. I was pretty upset when I heard this. He said in my case, he would assess the situation when he goes in and if the 'rind' isn't too terrible, he will remove the band and continue with the sleeve. I still have some hurdles to jump. First, insurance authorization and then waking up sleeved.....waaaaaah. Now I'm depressed, lol.

    Frustrated over Insurance Denial

This is what I am worried about. BCBS may not think my revision is medically necessary. So the doc is going to have to make the case that I've been vomiting for years and have already had one slipped band (not this current one tho as I had an upper GI-all looks ok) and a hiatal hernia. The other band was replaced under a previous insurance. It is REALLY going to suck when/if my husband has his sleeve and I'm still stuck with the band that is nothing but trouble.

    Band to bypass

I'm am having a revision also . July13 . Just had the upper GI . It wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. There should be a forum for revisions. I've seen several posts from people who have this done.
  19. I wished I had known the sleeve would make acid reflux worse. I would have done RNY if I had known this information. Now I feel like I need to get revision surgery to get relief.

    Frustrated over Insurance Denial

I was denied because BCBS said the revision wasn't medically necessary. I've had the Psych, and the Cardiology, and I'm going for the sleep medicine MD tomorrow. BCBS also stated that they only cover 1 bariatric procedure per lifetime, though my MD office said they've seen that reversed. I'm getting even more frustrated because since I had to have all the fill removed from my band, I've gained like 30 pounds back. The best part is, that my eating habits are better now (not eating as much junk) than when the band was filled and I've gained so much weight back.
  21. I totally agree with you!I only told my parents when I got the band...to this day I am ashamed about the lapband failure, the fact that I suffered with it,gained back the weight, the damage it did to my body...I am glad I didn't reveal it to the world!!!You hit in on the head .. I just got revised to bypass...I told my best friend and parents...I am in my 50's...nothing to see or prove to anyone.I don't need to give a seminar on me and my procedure...not lying...just don't feel the need to tell everyone...even telling family or certain friends is a no no...they often feel the need to discuss your health with others even when you tell them not to...I can't wait to get to your success 5 yrs ahead...hopefully no longer obese and not a topic of discussion...congrats to you!

Because my surgery is a revision, removing band, and revising to sleeve Bcbs has different requirements then when you originally have a procedure. I know I won't have a problem with insurance for the removal, but the revision I'm just not sure, its only been a week and I'm already tired of waiting for an answer Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App
  24. 11 years ago I had lap band surgery and was breastfeeding my 9 month old son at the time. I pumped and dumped while I was on medication and when it was safe to resume breastfeeding, we just went right back to where we left off, and I nursed him for about year after. He was 9 months old though, and was eating and drinking other foods at the time. So as far as being able to exclusively feed your baby breast milk....I guess you will just have to see how it goes. It sounds like he can at least take a bottle to supplement if needed. My 9 month old baby is now almost 12 years old and is a big strong boy! I'll be having a band revision on the 20th!! Hope everything goes well for you and your baby. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. Thank you for your answer! About your question, I talked to my doctor about having the lap band removal and revision at the same time and he said that he usually does the removal and sleeve in the same surgery. However, he told me that it depends of how much scar tissue you have around the band. If there is a lot of scar tissue, he will only do the removal and schedule the sleeve surgery for 6 weeks later.
