I am probably only getting 500 calories in on most days . I do meet the required amount of Protein which my Doc says is 70-80. I usually eat a yogurt and add a scoop of Protein powder and add some honey nut clusters or something with Fiber which is 45 grams of protein. Then I will drink a shake which has 30 grams... just to get my protein in.. mostly on nights that I work (it's hard eating on night shift and even harder because of my job). How are others combating not being hungry and getting in enough calories? I am 6 months out.

The ice cream is still a work in process. Yesterday's batch was 2 cups half and half, 1 c almond milk, 2 eggs, 3/4 c stevia, 3 scoops unflavored Protein powder, and 1/4 c PB2 chocolate. Still a high fat count because of the half and half. Next I want to lower the half and half and try using Greek yogurt for some of it. I also make frozen yogurt using 2 c frozen fruit, 1/2 c Greek yogurt, stevia, and 2 scoops unflavored Protein Powder. It is really good. -

Like others said, tracking and measuring everything is going to be the best way for you to get a grip on your macros and figure out exactly where you need to make changes. Even if you really really don't want to, if you really really want to keep losing you will. However, I'm not a tracker, so I kind of get where you're coming from. So here are some very basic rules that could be a good place to start..... 1) 64 oz Water every day. And that's a minimum.... I usually get 80-100oz. The basic chemical process to metabolize fat requires H2O. Without an ample supply, the fat is simply going to sit there. 2) 60g Protein every day. Again, this is a minimum. Many programs have goals of 80+. Now this does require a certain amount if tracking...I just tally it in my head. Read labels and look up nutritional info online if you don't have a tracking app like my fitness pal. My easy fix is I eat a Quest bar and I have a protein smoothie everyday. That's 40-50g of protein right there. All the "real" food I eat is bonus protein, and I know I'm well over the 60g mark every day. 3) unless it's a non starchy vegetable, never eat anything that contains more carbs than protein. Again, this takes a bit of nutritional education. You need to read labels and look things up online if you don't have a tracking app. If you must snack, go for raw veggies, Jerky, Protein Bars, or Greek yogurt (again, read labels as some have more carbs than protein) I've been doing this for over two years and after reaching goal I made it a point to add in more whole grains and fruit, but while you are still losing, it needs to be all about water, protein and veggies. Oh yeah, and don't forget to take your Vitamin supplements every day.

@@carolina07 - you are perfectly welcome to post in this thread. There is no sensitive material here, I only posted this in the men's area only bolster content and I believed it to be a male centric POV workout. To answer your question, I eat 1700-ish calories a day. Protein bar for Breakfast or oatmeal with Protein powder added. I'll have a snack of something like cheese or yogurt or pork rind with hummus around 11. I go to the gym around 12, hour and a half of exercise. Something meat post workout like ham, turkey or lunch meat. chicken breast is always good. I can eat about 5oz of dense meat. If I have salad, hell I can eat almost 2 cups! As a note, I never eat lettuce salad anymore unless I am seriously constipated. Lettuce goes right through me and many others. Plus, it has no nutritional value. Kale and spinach with cabbage are my main-stays now. I still feel restrictive, but it's not a bad thing. Get the good stuff in first and you should be good. I find that the most important habit I've formed is logging my food. If you don't currently use it, I recommend MyFitnessPal. Who else got sleeved on the 28th of march?
Shell ???? replied to elaina831's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 29th today was the first day I don't need an afternoon nap. I move onto purée tomorrow which I'm hoping will help with my constipation. Today I had 750mls of Water mixed with some low cal juice and half a yogurt 62 grams and a cup of clear Soup and a coffee with high Protein milk couldn't face the shake and yes I'm allowed coffee which is making my life a lot more bearable at the moment but I only have the one a day. sleeping is hard as I can't sleep on my sides they hurt to much so it's my back all night. I'm glad I have this week off work I couldn't face going back yet when are you all going back to work? I had some head hunger today and found myself looking at food for WLS on pintrist and read a few blogs on life after WLS eating out etc tips I find myself researching all the time. I have muscle pain upon getting up and down the incision by my belly button is sore and I feel a muscle pulling when I move around. The scale went up 1.5 kgs today so I'm not going to weigh till next weekend I've decided or il become obsessed with weighing all the time. Sent from my iPhone -

@@leag78 I would try ditching the processed carbs altogether... Were the baked nuggets breaded? I'd ditch the uncrustable altogether. I'm sure it's not providing the kind of nutrition you need. As far as Snacks go, try a sugar free Jello, a low sugar yogurt, string cheese, slice of lunch meat, boiled egg, or a couple baby carrots or mini peppers. I find that I have greater success with "real food".

Sounds like you are doing great I weighed in before and I've gone up 1.5kgs since Friday so odd just be Fluid or something. Congratulations on your first 10kgs that's a huge achievement to be proud of. So you think if it's just mushy I could try that I don't want to drink savoury foods like watery yuck I'd rather stay on shakes which I hate. I'm totally hearing you on the savoury front I'm over sweets too. I bought some refried Beans to have with some melted cheese and sour cream I might try that tomorrow. I might have some yogurt tonight and see how I go. Sent from my iPhone -

jennifer320 replied to aglosson1979's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery on 3/16 and am down 17 pound. I just was told to start stage 4 diet from my nutritionist this week. Stage 4 is soft solids. I haven't made the full transition. Still doing a lot of Greek yogurt, Protein shakes and some Soups. I don't eat seafood and am not an egg person. Trying to be an egg person. Lol. Please feel fee to share any favorites for this stage. Between the gas and the diarrhea, is there any chance you're lactose intolerant?? Lots of people are fine eating things like cheese and yogurt but once they start living on milk and whey protein, they realize they have mild lactose intolerance. If you're using a shake that isn't 100% whey isolate, I'd try switching, and try making them with Lactaid milk or soy instead! -
I've had no interest or thoughts of food I went grocery shopping today and the only thing that I looked at and thought hmmm yum was some vintage cheese I then came home and made a cottage pie and meat loaf for my partners dinner for the next few nights as I don't want him to suffer because I'm not eating so I figured I'd prep some stuff for him even looking at the mashed potatoes I was like yuck I go onto purée Monday and I'm worried as I'm only having Water and one shake a day atm can't face anything else I did buy yogurt 4 diff types and some low cal juice to help me with my water intake Sent from my iPhone

I'm 9 months post op what should my daily calorie intake be
foodfighter78 replied to don.thomas4@aol.com's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Until couple weeks ago I was eating around 800 cal, I'm now around 1200 . I'm underweight but all my vitamins and blood work it's fine. I just saw my doctor on wed and he said I'm fine. My nutritionist wants me to upper my calories and gain weight. I'm fine I wish I had little more energies. Some days I push more food down but then is a struggle for hrs. I'm 1 year out. All my calories come from avocado, fage yogurt, nuts, beans, occasionally crackers or pretzel sticks, no pasta, rice, pizza, bread, it will fill me for the all day and it's hard on my stomach. -

I'm having cravings and snacking..HELP

I'm 22 months out and I'll tell you what my reset is. I can easily go back to full liquids for 3 to 5 days with no issues. Kind of like the pouch test but I don't count everything. I just have my shakes all day long. When I'm ready to bring back in solids, I start with my lean meats, mostly chicken and fish. And then my vegetables. It breaks my snacking. It resets my restriction. It gets me back on track to basics of healthy choices. Then I add things back in slowly. Mostly I just have a Protein shake every day. I think that has always helped me. And the funniest is I bring my Vitamins with me in my purse and have them throughout the day. They are like gummies and they do taste ok. Every little thing helps. You need to think back to the things you did absolutely faithfully while you were losing during the first year and pick that up again. So if you've stopped tracking then start. If you were using almonds as a go to snack and you've stopped, then start again. If you swear you can never eat another yogurt because you've eaten so much, go back. Sometimes we forget what worked because the first year was hell to go through but worth it. Best of luck to you. -
@@mel6020 - Sorry you felt ridiculed. We are all here to support one another. You can ask any question here--and usually they will be well received. And sometimes you may get a little tough love. Everyone wants you to succeed. I think even those of us with the most ferocious of appetites, myself included, have had situations in our lives that have made us lose our appetite (ex. stress, fear, etc). Not sure what your circumstances are but I hope you regain your appetite soon. I think you need to come up with a gameplan to make sure you didn't have this surgery for nothing. You did it to regain your health -- and so you must! You could end up being more unhealthy post surgery if you don't take your Protein requirements seriously. Easier said than done--especially from someone who hasn't even gotten insurance approval yet, let alone had the surgery :-p Set alarms, check out the packages on the various foods you like to see how much protein they contain, figure out the portions. Drink your shakes, protein waters and even get Snacks that are high in protein-greek yogurt, nut butters, cheese and crackers--yes, I have seen cracker-like snacks in my local supermarket that have 15g of protein and only 140 calories. YOU TOTALLY GOT THIS! I know that you are going to be great!

Why is everything sweet?
ksrn19 replied to doppelganger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What kind of no filler protein did you use? I have the unjury unflavored tub and a scoop and half of that looks like it would just make a paste in 4oz of water. I did finally get 40gm of protein down over the course of a day via a Premiere Protein shake and an Oikos zero vanilla yogurt (15gm protein per cup!). Thanks again to everyone for their suggestions, I plan on trying them all seeing that my protein requirements for the next three days almost doubles per my post op diet plan. You have to go to GNC or somewhere that sells like bodybuilder type supplements. It's just PURE protein isolate. I use the GNC brand but just ask someone. When it's pure it's not a thick consistency AT ALL. It's a bit thicker than water. It's so pure. I don't think people realize this is available. It's the only way I can see getting 60 gms. I could get 90 if I didn't want soup for lunch! Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
For Protein shakes you definitely want to look for whey isolate as the main ingredient, assuming you don't have any issues with dairy. You want to look for low carb/low sugar. You will likely be on Clear liquids for a couple of days post-op and then be allowed protein shakes and "full liquids". Full liquids are things like milk, strained cream Soups, and some surgeons even allow drinkable yogurt (not sure if they have things like Gogurt in your neck of the woods). I really don't know what foods you will have available but puree and soft food stages usually include cottage cheese or other soft cheeses, greek yogurt, tuna salad, scrambled eggs, refried Beans.... Hopefully your surgeon will provide you a list of foods that are common where you are living.

The Greek yogurt is a lifesaver when trying to get in that last bit of Protein requirement. Dannon has one that is toasted coconut. Omg heaven. In trying to add hot Cereal I do 1/4 c of cereal to 1/4 of yogurt and it's wonderful. Also- I purchased the Gerber baby cereal. Easier to make tiny portions with and no cooking involved. Just hot tap Water. As an aside, a friend said she added non fat powdered milk to things when she could and it also ups the protein levels. -

I'm having a hard time eating!
LisaMergs replied to pqmr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Omg I am SO with you! I'm 13 days out- full liquids- bit can have yogurt, hot cereals puddings too. My problem is just like yours. Eating fills me so fast! I have zero problems getting my liquids in, though my tummy prefers them to be warm. Room temp water is so-so , therefore I tend to drink more hot tea than anything. Crystal lite is ok. Anyway- I'm supposed to have 3 meals of 4 oz each and drink liquids and protein shakes in between. I much prefer having one meal and upping my protein to make certain I get it all in. It is so darn hard! I felt "real" restriction for the first time today. Trying to get liquids in 30 min after I ate and each sip almost hurt[emoji20][emoji20][emoji20]. Spoke with my NUT today and she said that for now it was ok to do "food" as an in-between and protein shakes as main source. Said it may take a few more weeks for my new tummy to get used to food. She also cautioned me that she did not approve of this as a long term solution. Who knew?[emoji4] -
