I'm 8 mos. post op. I have lost 48 lbs. I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes years ago. I am now off my medication. I have hypertension, I am off one medication completely and have decreased dosages on the other. My blood pressure has been in the normal range. I have dropped in pant size from a 26 wp to a 18. I have gone down 2 bra sizes and 2 shirt sizes. I am about to go on vacation to play golf. I am so excited. I feel energized and fit enough to get out and walk the courses. I have improved my golf swing because I have less body to work around! I am so glad I have gone through this surgery. There has been times I thought what the hell did I do to myself but now I am 'on schedule' with my weight loss. My doctor told me that I should expect 1/4 to 1/2 lbs weight loss per week. I have stopped looking at the numbers. I am working on my activity and food intake according to what I am supposed to do. I was skipping the daily protein snacks but found that's not the right thing to do. So now I am back on track and doing very well. To those who get discouraged (like I did) hang in there! Remember it took years to put it on and it will take time to take it off. Be patient! I am on the 2-3 year plan. I am in no hurry to get to my goal ( which is 40 more lbs) but I will get there. This is hard work, I am a stronger person! I am thankful for all the encouragement from my family and friends.

A piece of advice about the scale Put it in the closet ! It's addicting, and disappointing the Majoriety of the time... Try it 1 x a month always at the same time like the 1st. ! Then only get weighed by your Doctors, and get a purse calendar, and record your weight. In time you will go back and see, your success. My surgeon told me to do this, and he was right ! It was hard ! But it is the best thing besided being banded, that I could have done... (I THREW THE DAM THING OUT !) and he was delighted. I thought he was crazy, but crazy like a Fox instead... Try it ! you might see some results if you keep plugging along, instead of stalling out, because you are worried about what the scale reads... Think about the inches, and clothes sizes that you will lose instead. Shirley.

It took me 4 months to lose 40 pounds, yet I'm not griping. Your weight loss journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Slow and steady wins the race, while fast and crass won't last. The final result is more important than the speed at which we lose the weight. I've lost 100 pounds, attained my goal weight, and have managed to keep the weight off. That's what's important. Good luck to you.

*Lexie* replied to auntiemel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 weeks post op and am down 13lbs. I was hoping to be down more but I am happy for the weight I have lost. I have been stalled for almost 2 weeks now. So discouraging. I hope I start losing again soon. -

Purging my closet again - anxiety
JuliannaJ replied to eclipse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got rid of over 10 trash bags full of clothes....I realized I dressed like a slob to hide my weight and bought and wore clothes that were big, bulky and colorless! I went to the thrift store found tons of stuff even brand new and bought it...at one store I got three pairs of pants and 4 shirts and paid $22.50! So clean out that closet! Can't wait to purge these clothes too! -
Mary Maxwell-Dowling, what a neat classy mouthful that is! I'm 72, a future RnY- er. HW355 CW323 BMI 47, strawberry blonde hair, hazel green eyes, once upon a time I was a cutie-pie, now I'm just a Big Mama. But I plan to be a little slimmer and trimmer, my GW is 170 to 175, will I make it? Well I'm gonna try.---Hey there are over 50 and over 60 postings on Bariatric Pal, look one or two of them up and join in. I too look forward to fishing, gardening, walking and maybe a little bicycling, all the things my 2 bionic knees and weight haven't let,me do. We're the Baby Boomers, we still Have our fire, drive and spunk, elsewise we wouldn't have survived to this point. I live in Central Ohio, within a 60 mile radius my entire life, an only child, widowed almost 6 years and have one son left who lives with me. I am so lucky he wants to be with me as much as I want him here. I also have 1 daughter who lives maybe 7/8th of a mile from me. I call her R.D. short for Rotten Daughter, I see her when and if she wants to see me. We all have a relative like that, it was my misfortune to give birth to mine. Ah, I will not let the thought of her drag me down! Through her I have 2 grandaughters, Amy the younger one is a Sophomore at Ohio State studying Forensic PreMedicine. Naomi the older one was married for nearly 2 years, came home with her tail between her legs& in the midst of a divorce. I assume it will be final when one of them gets sufficent money or finds someone else as an incentive. I'm not supposed to ask too much( per RD,) it only depressed poor Naomi to talk about it. What does she think, Naomi doesn't know it? Oh Whatever! I just praise God there are no great grandbabies stuck in this mess! Sure I'd love g.g.b. but not in this unstable situation. Write back if you' d like, I'm on here a lot. And I will get my surgery, some days I'd like to put legs on my prayers but I trust our God knows best. Remember Greater is He that is within us than what is in the World. I cling to the hope of a future, both here and in Heaven someday! Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

Your in the right place. There is a lot of great information on the boards. Try to find a support group in your area. I know I have to come to terms with my relationship with food to have long term success. I read the success stories and see what other people are doing. I look at it as baby steps and the gastric sleeve is another tool to help me loose weight and get healthy.

You're gonna love the Options Program, you will get so much information and make new friends too. I finished the 12 week program and am now awaiting surgery this Spring. I've already met my surgeon. Check with the Kaiser benefits team to see what your co-pay might be, it's not the same for everyone, it depends on your plan. Luckily I was fully covered with no co-pay. I've already lost alot of weight just going through the program. Good Luck!

Self- Pay On the Fence
AlienBandit replied to Winning's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey Winning, you have already contacted me through my blog but just wanted to post on here to say hello too in case you want to send me a msg here. As the person above stated the sleeve can be a good option for a weight loss surgery with less post op care but in South Korea you are required to have a family member in Korea who lives here to be able to have the surgery done ( or so I have been told). I researched the sleeve once because I thought of getting it here and a person I spoke to that got it had to fight for her surgery even though she lived here ( but was foreign) for many years and her fiance was a Korean living here. Where are you from originally and how much time are you planning on staying here? Have you checked out our yahoo korean bandster group? -
Congrats on joining the club! Although I wasn't one of them, I hear a lot of people gain weight the first few days. Don't worry, you will be losing in no time at all! Sorry you are in so much pain. It will subside here real soon. Take care and keep us informed! And again, CONGRATS!!

Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Sandra and I had my surgery 11-14-2009 and my sisters as well. We did it together because we are all big. I got the band because I want to just lose weight to be happy and to be healthy! I think this is the best thing I ever did even though all my friends are against what I did. I am glad at least I can find encouragement from this forum!

Find a substitute. Protein shakes, SF pudding, sf hot chocolate all go down real nice. You can gain weight with a band if you are not willing to make life style changes. It sounds harsh I know, but really?? You did not have surgery because you like your current weight/health level. Suck it up! There are a lot of people here who have been successful. A few have not, but most of these are finding away around the band.

Gallbladder and lapband surgeries
BayougirlMrsS replied to buckeyegirl4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, so i had my GB removed years before my LB. I have to still agree with Mis73. I ate and still do eat: Dairy Products Especially cheese Peanut Butter Red meat Raw Vegetables (i don't eat these because i don't like them. and now because of the band) Caffeine Alcohol I removed the fried and high fat, because those are correct. I also had trouble in the beginning with eggs & corn. Each person is different. I have a friend that still... 10+ years later still has to take a power every day or she will have diarrhea. some doctors will remove the GB at time of LB surg. due to the weight loss, most people will develop GB problems. But, the LB it self does not cause GB problems.... -
Gallbladder and lapband surgeries
JACKIEO85 replied to buckeyegirl4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gall bladder issues ARE and CAN BE related to ANY weight loss surgery, it's a FACT. Now as far as waiting to have surgery to get the lap band, ASK your Doctor ...GB surgery recovery is usually 2 weeks There are some foods that should be avoided after gallbladder surgery. Generally, any foods that gave you pain before surgery will need to be avoided. It will take awhile for your body to learn how to digest fats so you should stick to a low fat diet for at least a few weeks after surgery and reintroduce them very slowly. Dairy products and too much Fiber can also cause problems. The BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast) should be avoided if you are having problems with constipation. However, if you are having diarrhea you may want to eat more of these foods. Every one should avoid these: Fried food Dairy Products Especially cheese Peanut Butter Red meat Greasy Foods Raw Vegetables Caffeine Alcohol (especially if you're on prescription pain pills!) It's not uncommon for a Doctor to do a H. hernia repair while doing the Lap Band, seems like gall bladder could also be removed at the same time BUT....most surgeons aren't going to do that due to insurance limitations, especially when they get have the surgeons do 2 surgeries and get paid double -
Gallbladder and lapband surgeries
BayougirlMrsS replied to buckeyegirl4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The band itself does not cause gb disease weight loss caused by the band does. This is why the fatter you r the higher the chances. Because most of us have dieted on and off for years. One fad diet or another weight loss and gain up and down. This is what causes Gb disease. Every patient is different and Gb removal effects every one differently. My recovery was quick as I was back at work in 3 days. But I think we got off the question which I think was how long too wait before having lb after Gb surg. I think that's up to the Individual person how well you heal and your doctor. So good luck buckeye girl -

I see the surgeon this coming week. I'm excited, but freaking out on the inside. Hopefully I can get an early surgery date. Well the jeans I have now started to feel a little big on me (I did lose 15 pounds since deciding to get the surgery) so I went ahead and shopped online for a new pair of jeans, the same jeans just in a smaller size. I noticed that the website was offering a pretty sweet deal where if you spend $100 or more you get $50 off. Well my jeans cost $54 so I thought it would be pretty dumb of me not to order a 2nd pair that would be practically free. The 2nd pair I ordered I got in a size smaller as I am anticipating losing more weight once I start the liquid diet and then after I am sleeved. I wanted to inform all you women out there who are currently losing weight and going through jeans fairly quickly of this deal. It's on the Catherine's website and they are called 'right fit jeans'. It's not just jeans that apply to this deal though, it's almost anything on their website where your total purchase is over $100, you get $50 off. You have to type in coupon code NOVEMBERCA Good luck!! Oh and the offer expires on Sunday.

Hi all. I have Bern a liked for about a month and just got around to posting. I am scheduled for sleeve tomorrow at 10am. Current weight is 220. I'm 5'3 and 34yrs young. Married to my high school sweetie with 2 kids. I have been so gung ho up until tonight. I am really having a difficult tine thinking about all the foods I cant have anymore. Pathetic I know. But how I'm feeling at this time. I could seriously tear in to some serious food right now. Maybe its all because I'm starving from this 7 day liquid diet. Cant imagine that tomorrow At this time I wont be wanting to eat. A little Concerned also because I have this cold. Lots ofjumk in the nose and a chunky cough. The surgeon listened to my lungs in fri and he said they were clear. Anyway. Thanks for the support that you all offer through this site. Its truely a blesssing!

kity replied to jubjub's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What a funny thread. I too enjoyed what "Mother Earth" gives us...and then the munchies hit...and hit...and hit. I guess that is why I am now having weight loss surgery next week. I gave it up because the munchies were crazy. But now...I say...live and let live. "Whatever gets you through the night...it's alright"! peaceout party people -
Go to 140. I don't know how tall you are, but keep going! I was 5'11" and got to 163. After I have this baby I want to get to 150 or a size 6 pants! WHAT! WHAT! I mean I should probably just have a goal of losing the baby weight, but I want want want to get to a size 6.

Gall bladder removal...soon!
worthit replied to Healthier2day1227's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello! I had my gallbladder out 4 years ago - completely unrelated to weight loss surgery as I haven't had it yet. While sounding scary, the laparoscopic gallbladder removal is not bad. I was up and about the next day, just with a sore tummy. I have four tiny scars and had no complications. The only negative thing I can think of is that my body doesn't process grease as well as it did before. You've got this!!!!!
