What was the amount of between your approval and actual surgery?
reachbree posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got the call last week that I had been approved and scheduled for surgery. I'm guessing it's the norm but I wasn't given an option of dates. By the time the office called me, they already had me schedule for June 16. It just occurred to me that in order to qualify or apply for any type of leave/disability you have to get it in 30 days prior to surgery. Obviously my surgery is less than 30 days away. Initially I was going to do the 4-6 weeks that my Dr. suggests I recover for, then switched to, maybe ill be ok with just using a few days of vacation time then going back. Now I'm back to, I'm going to need more than 3 days to recover. That being said, I'm wondering if I should reschedule for a later date? Has anyone else filed for disability with a close surgery date? -
I'm very concerned. I am 3 months and 4 days post-op. I had the sleeve. I feel great! My surgery weight was 244 and tiday it's 187! I have dropped 3 clothing sizes! But my concern....I DO NOT TAKE IN ENOUGH CALORIES AND PROTEIN!!! Arghhh! I try ti eat. I push ti eat. I weigh out my portions. But i get 2 or 3 bus in and I'm done. I still can't tolerate some smells and some tastes of foods. I can't tolerate meats (this includes beef, chicken, and turkey). The highest amount of calories I have consumed a day has been 500, protein maybe 50. I'm losing weight fast but now I can actually feel my bones like when I sit out lay down. Any suggestions? Or am I being paranoid?? Sent from my LG-US996 using BariatricPal mobile app

Yeah, I had that feeling too. Kind of like it was a lump sitting there. The feeling goes away eventually, but right now your little tummy is still swollen and food doesn't always make it happy. Keep eating the things that work for you, and try your chicken again in a week. You're probably just not ready for it yet.

I can not eat solid regualr food until after week 12, but everyone is different. Best of luck to you! Kelly

Weight stalled after only 7 days
kelseysmommy replied to ella37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't stress over it, I stalled and gained a pound even after 2 weeks. Just try and stay motivated and know after a couple days you will again lose the 3lb and 4 lbs. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App -
Ok, just had my first non liquid meal in 4 weeks tonight!:wink2: I had 2 oz. of moist cooked flounder and 1/4C of mashed potatoes. I wanted some soft cooked veggies but my list says that's week 4. So my question to all the veterans out there -- how long would it take me to PB or vomit. I ate slow. Chewed well. Stopped when I was full. It's been about 15 minutes -- would I have gotten sick already? When that happens is it an immediate thing? I told you guys it was a silly question.:smile2:

What do you tell employers?
kyllfalcon replied to MelissaGG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not trying to pick a fight, please understand, but that is a rather broad statement that there is no need to take a medical leave. I was in relatively decent health, but no way I could have gone back to my job in a week. I was exhausted and had the runs so bad - and there is no restroom on my floor! And everyone is different. It is wonderful that you had such an easy time of it, but not everyone does, and not just the unhealthy. -
Hey everyone, I was just wondering if you could tell me what a stall is. I know it's when you stop losing weight for a period of time but how long does it last and how did you get through it? I'm a very impatient person and I get a lot of anxiety when I'm not losing weight because I'm doing everything right and I'm just getting frustrated. Xx

4 Weeks Of Working Out (5Days A Week) Lost 2.8Lbs !! Has This Happened To You?
♥LovetheNewMe♥ replied to blackcadillacs5's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I have been working out with a trainer for the past 7 months - 3 days a week. I only lost 20 lbs but I droped 5 sizes. There is a misconception that muscle weighs more than fat but actually a pound is a pound no matter if it is fat or muscle. The difference is muscle is leaner and therefore you are toner and smaller instead of all jiggly and fat. So you say you have only dropped less than 3 lbs but have you lost inches, dropped you percent of body fat and do you look toner? Are you sure you are eating enough protein and calories, when lifting weight I know you burn more calories and high protein diet is key to developing muscles. My two cents! -

Thanks everyone...I weight myself a day ago (about 6 weeks since my last weigh in) and I'm down 9.5lbs which is awesome! LOL I was just taken aback with the 3lbs after 5 hard weeks. I appreciate the insight, I am taking it to heart...I have already modified my diet and upped my Protein and Water. I will not let this plateau beat me! LOL Thanks again. -
Post-return medical tourism insurance
goldndiamondzboy posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Does anyone have experience buying medical tourism insurance that covers not only complications while abroad but also complications that arise upon return? The only insurance company I'm aware of that offers it is Four Corners, and it's their International Travel Medical Insurance plan. You can renew it for up to 3 years post-op. It's pricey, between $500-$700 depending on how long you want coverage for (45 days to one year). Anyway, I'm just trying to determine whether my regular insurance company will cover issues like strictures or late occurring staple leaks or if It will become a bankrupting medical issue and thus should buy the insurance. -
Post op 3 weeks, day 4 no power. I share the zip code with Union Beach & Keyport, 2 towns there hit hard!! sleeved 10/15/2012

Hi, I have flown an average of once a week since being banded, and during that time, I have had 11 fills. I have yet to have a problem due to the altitude change of the plane taking off and landing. However, I was extremely tight after going from the mountains and then spending a week on the ocean. It was just tighter than it should be. It was nice to simply not be able to participate in those hyper-fattening buffets on the cruise ship. Good luck to you, as I know we all react differently.

Really Struggling with Eating Habits
uacaitlyn posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm 2 months post op. I'm losing weight as I should, right on schedule, 34 lbs. I'm working out and drinking my water. That said, I feel amazing and have started to eat like I used to in social situations (not nearly as much or as often). A chip or two here, a bite of dessert there, and this past weekend was my 30th birthday so I had a few drinks, chips and dessert. The nurse practitioner told me everyday is a new day and to start over but I've been doing this, snacking a bit and what not for a few weeks and it's become a habit. I will not regain this weight and I want to have healthy life long habits but I'm falling hard into old habits. Advice? Help? Please! -
Hi Dee1402' I will private message you but just wanted to wish you well. I had some trouble with my drain as well and my second week was not as good as the first , I think it was because I was alone in the day. Best wishes, RoseSA

Is losing too fast safe
theoldmusicbox replied to pvp2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
no worries. you have (1) completely violated your insides (2) drastically reduced your calorie intake (3) hopefully become more active and (4) hopefully started eating healthier choices. these all at once drastic changes will cause drastic effects in most people. and anyway, by 6 months, you'll be whining that you're losing too slow. it's all good. as long as you don't feel exhausted all of the time. if you become lethargic, call your surgeon and ask his opinion, otherwise, hang on and enjoy the ride! good luck. -
Nutrition plan share away.
Inner Surfer Girl replied to OneLostJourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first week was clear liquids so I used premier protein (my surgeon allowed this as an exception to the clear rule), and ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrate. My second week was full liquids (which also included Greek yogurt and cottage cheese). I also used ProtiDiet creamy chicken and tomato basil soup. -
That is exactly what just happened to me. I have a 10 CC band and went for a fill and they put .3 in it and I knew it was tight but I was able to eat still. When my stomach growled it was uncomfortable and I felt almost nauseous but not really. Not sure what the feeling was but it was uncomfortable. When I went in to dr they did a barium xray and found out my band was too tight and it was backing up and I just did not feel it. My pouch had swollen so now I am on a 1 week liquid diet (which today is the last day thank goodness) and they took out 1 whole CC and I have an appt on the 3rd to go back and we will see how that goes. I had noticed that my stomach was growling and gurgling a bunch but just thought that was my band talking. My PA told me that is a sign on bad being too tight. When she took out the 1CC that all stopped.

7 weeks out and can barely eat anything!

You might have to be crafty to find the Protein sources that will work for you. I noticed amazon does feature lactose-free products, and I'm sure your local Vitamin Shoppe or GNC or Bariatric pantry have products that will do the job. http://www.amazon.com/Plant-Fusion-Supplement-Chocolate-Pound/dp/B0021FAITU/ref=sr_1_3?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1367872766&sr=1-3&keywords=lactose+free+protein+powder I was looking at plant fusion and it has good reviews. I used to make Protein shakes with lactaid to eliminate some of the lactose, but I am not really intolerant, but our nutritionist said that many people for some reason become lactose intolerant after surgery. Other than that, if you can tolerate soft food, perhaps look into Quinoa as a protein source. Do some research, it looks pretty good, and of course there is soy. Sorry to hear you are having trouble eating. Keep working at it, little by little you will hopefully make progress. As tough as it is, this period is where you will lose most of your weight and as it gets easier to eat, the loss will slow down, so it actually works in your favor. Look at this as a positive if you can. Good luck on your journey!! -
When can I wear a bra again? I had my surgery on Monday.. And I have family coming over to visit. Regular bra or a sports one? And does this make me 3 or 4 days post OP? I'm not sure if I should include my surgery date...

Differences in Plans
highfunctioningfatman replied to sill21's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It all comes down to the doctor and what they are comfortable with. They may feel that a long time of liquids after surgery is safer or they may just be a crappy surgeon that has had problems with leaks in the short run and they attribute that to what the patient ate. Who knows? Does that mean that a surgeon who is fine with soft foods a week out is better? Who knows?
