    Failing at this!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweety-- First of all what size band do you have-- mine takes 10ccs to fill it all up-- I'm at 7 ccs and have better restriction on some days and not any on others. Remember this is a slow process- My friend had her band placed 1 month ahead of me-- her band is all ready at 10 and she can still eat a berger with a bun--- not me- but she has gotton into a good walking routine and is doing better than me- I'm really trying to put my best effort forward and walk too Talk to your Dr. and see what he recommends. keep your chin up I am!!!!
  2. @Marissa37 Congrats on fighting like a girl. In the end, this is too serious not to follow your doctors' advice to the letter. Risk of recurrence is very real, and I'd want to do everything possible within my power to keep that from happening. You might want to call insurance. Mine won't allow WLS until 5 years cancer free. When I was at 5years, my onc started talking WLS to me. But I wasn't ready for the change. It took me about 18months later to get my head in the game and to start the process. From start to now, it's been about 10 months. I hope to have surgery 2.20.18. As for having DIEP (autologous tissue transplant from your belly fat) flap reconstruction, you do have to be careful not to lose too much weight, so that there is sufficient grafting material. I lost down to 218lbs during chemo/radiation/double mastectomy/expanders. My PS, told me we had to do the bilateral latissimus dorsi flap procedures and implants because I didn't have enough fat left in my abdomen to do the transplant and he felt I would not like the results. He also said that even with a partner doing the other side, it would have been an 11hour surgery and he felt I wasn't strong enough to withstand it. So I would make sure you thoroughly understand the process he's suggesting to you and do your research and make sure you won't have any surprises. I hope they at least put tissue expanders in during your surgery? Hang in there and study. You'll find your way! Here's some research I compiled. I made the decision to do RNY because it's more effective against metabolic disease. Hormone positive breast cancer is an obesity mediated metabolic disease that some refer to as Diabetes Type 3. You've lost enough weight...

I can totally relate to this. When people aske me if I will lose more weight, and I tell them that i still have to lose 19 pounds they start saying that I'm ok that I don't need to lose more weight and go on and on..... At first I noticed that people where really happy for me, but as I'm reaching my goal some people are starting to make comments that sounded more like jelousy or envy..... even people who are thin and mostly women.

    100 Pounds Lost!

Well, I started out at 470 so when you're that size you lose more at the beginning I think. All I can say is I follow the food plan my doctor suggested and I weigh and measure everything, plus I swim 35 minutes before work every day. I've noticed that I will lose a few pounds one week and then the following week I lose nothing. That seems to be what's been happening for over a month. Every other week I go down 3-5 pounds it seems. For me I find I will drop 10 lbs and then my body goes on a 2 - 3 week freeze and sometimes a bump up a lb or two and then I'll drop another 10-15 lbs and it will happen again. I don't mind it at all because I'm following the guidelines and feeling great! And I don't want to drop insane amounts and then just gain them back. I like that my body takes a little bit to adjust, find it's new balance and then lose again.

Any out there from South Florida!

I know most of these post are a few years old but I am in Miami and am scheduled for surgery July 19, looking for someone to keep me motivated .
  7. ProHealth Care has a ONE A DAY chewable vitamin!! I usually swallow it. I don't like chewing vitamins. YUCK... But it has everything GBS patients need in one dose. It's $10 for a 30 day supply.
  8. SweetP79, I hope your 2019 will be dynamite, and things go well for you and everyone else.
  9. Hi guys, I've followed this app for quite some time before having my surgery.. I must admit some of you had me scared out my mind but this has been the best decision I could've made. It's no where near easy but it's worth it and I've decided to post a picture to share with you all...the pic in the middle is from today..please excuse my mirror lol.. I can let you know my starting weight was 266 I'm now around 230 and I'm 5ft 4in.

    May Sleevers! Almost there!

I'm also May 1st!! Just one more day of pre op. I've done well with it during the week but the weekend was challenging. I didn't do horrible, but I don't think I'll make the 10 pounds in a week mark :/ But my starting weight (November 27, 2012) was 304, and this morning I was 262, so if I don't lose a total of 10 this week I don't care Good luck everyone!

    Weight Stall?

I am 10 weeks out and have been stalled twice for a total of 8 weeks. I've lost tons of inches though so I'm not at all upset by the scale not moving. The thing is I look and feel so much better. I'm enjoying this process even though it is not at all what I expected.
  12. Can you have gastric bypass and then do the sleeve years later? Just curious as my mom had gastric bypass over 10 years ago.

    5 days post op....

So I had my post op appt today and from 3/10 to 3/24 I lost 11 pounds. Since surgery 3/24 to today I lost an additional 12 pounds. That is a total of 23 POUNDS!!! I beyond excited.... I am now on a purée diet and I have decided to start a weight loss blog called FATionista In the City. I'll let all of you know when I post my first blog post. I have a lot more weight to loose but man am I proud I'm on this journey. Sidebar: I made an amazing friend on this journey who had surgery the same date as I and while concluding my post op appt she was there to start her post op with a small gift for me. 33 BMI and scheduled for VG...

While Iggy's story can be the case, do know it can be relatively smooth sailing too. Here is my almost 2 week post-op story. Yes, I know I am not out of the woods yet and can develop a leak or some other complication. -- No major pain after surgery, other than my wrist arm swelling from the vein they blew -- still hurts -- No major gas pain -- No nausea -- No close calls with throwing up -- Able to drink fluids relatively easily, albeit slowly -- Moved to full liquids per my Dr's plan easily -- I am getting 60+ grams of protein, and close to the 64 oz of fluid (remembering to sip water and waiting the 30+ minutes after is annoying) -- Since moving to full liquids, I am been getting 600 to 700 calories in, is that too much? -- Finally lost the water weight gain plus, and an additional 4.2 lbs since the surgery for a total of nearly 12 lbs -- Traveled to my client site and worked pretty much my same routine of super fulls days, i.e, 10+ hours (yes, I did crash as soon as I got back to the hotel) Now, for the minor complaint, when will my wrist along the vein stop hurting? It hurts to stretch the arm out and to touch it. OK, I know I will hit a stall, I am thinking moving to more solid foods might present a problem, I just know I will hit a road bump at some point and will be on here asking for help. But, until then, pre-op patients, please know that the ride can be smooth. I know so far I have been one of the lucky ones. Thank you to who ever is watching out for me, I really appreciate it. Personally, I attribute some of my smooth sailing to my lower BMI and being healthy going into the surgery. No heart complications, no high BP, etc. Mary

    W H Y?

I'm still hiking for the search and rescue party. I've walked (hiked) at least 30 miles since Wednesday. I've gained 4 lbs!!! I'm eating food with carbs in it but goodness, shouldn't it burn off with all of the hiking? Really frustrated, sore and tired. The feels like temp is -10. Please pray we find our person. It's been 8 days

    No dumping---but a "stuck" feeling?

Eat something with sugar over 25 grams and you'll experience dumping. The stuck feeling is the over stuffed feeling you get from eating protein such as steak and eggs. I couldn't stomach them at 9 weeks out. And now 19 months post up can eat very little protein...but I have lotsa of energy feel great and have lost over 130 pounds. I used protein shakes at 9 weeks out to meet my protein requirements.

People who are at or near goal

I lost 83 pounds my first year. I just had my 2 year anniversary and I am down another 19. Once I hit 100 down last summer I bounced up and down the same 3 pounds, until it was 7 that I gained! I have been trying to stay around 1,000 calories a day for the last 2 weeks and have lost all that I gained and an additional pound.

33 BMI and scheduled for VG...

Minority opinion here, I wouldn't do it if I had such a low BMI Let me say that I LOVE my sleeve, I had surgery same place as Iggy and had wonderful care,no complications and excellent, life changing, couldh't have dreamed for better results! the point is that complications can happen anywhere. If you have complications, recovery from them SUCK. Iggy tells a scary story, and there are plenty more like them just like that. We all think it won't happen to us, but it could. The surgery needs to really be worth it. The odds are very low that you will die or have a major complication, but it COULD happen. It needs to be worth it. I was a 52 BMI, was having health issues and worst of all - a very decreased quality of life. for me, those risks were worth it. If I had been unlucky enough have complications, it would still have been worth it because I was on a slow march to dying to young with a side trip through disability... Now, woohoo, I feel young, energetic - wonderful - I wear a size 10 now - I am far from petite but I am normal and I am loving it. Even if I never lose another pound, it was worth it (I am actually still losing; lost over 130# in a year)

    Sleeved June 1st

nraeh So glad you are recovering nicely and had an easy surgery! I got sleeved on Wednesday, June 1st as well! Just got out of the hospital Saturday afternoon (TODAY) and I am feeling pretty good too. Haven't tried a shake yet. Still just doing Clear liquids -- I had two sugar free jell-os tonight along with chicken broth, Vitamin Water zero and an sugar free ice pop! But after only being out of the hospital for 10 hours -- I pooped (sorry for the TMI but I am so proud & excited!). So my digestive system is working a - okay. My surgery went fine but it was delayed getting into the operating room. There were several emergency surgeries that bumped my ELECTIVE procedure. So instead of starting at 11 am they didn't start until 3PM so I was dehydrated going into the surgery. Of course they wouldn't let me even have ice chips until after the esophogram (swallow test) and in a major NYC hospital between the time you take the test, your surgeon gets the results and then actually gives a written order to start the patient on liquids takes way more time than a dehydrated gal wants it to take!!! All that aside every day I feel better. My new tiny tummy is still a bit sensitive. When I ingest anything even water I feel lots of contractions that aren't terrible but I would like them to go away. I need to keep taking the anti-nausea drugs and the PPI. I may try diluting a shake with water tomorrow and see if I can get in some Protein. There is always Isopure -- I broke down and bought three bottles (GRAPE/APPLE-MELON/BLUE RASPBERRY). Like you nraeh -- I am glad to be sleeved and looking forward to starting my journey! EJ

    possible complications

I have had my band since 2010. I have started experiencing severe back pain when I eat. I thought the pain was related to gallbladder. I went to the doctor and he confirmed I needed gallbladder removed. He said the pain I described was gallbladder related. Nope! Back pain is still very much present. Anyone else ever experience this 10/10 pain?

    Clothing

I'm 10 weeks out and did a real purge of my dresser. I'm one of those that held on to clothes that "I'll get into when I lose a couple of pounds". I was giggling to myself as I tried everything on. Everything was too big. Nothing was wearable. The little stuff was 2 sizes too big. The down side is I really need to go get a few things that fit. But I know I'll be able to wear them a few weeks and that's it. Thrift stores here I come! I'm going to keep the clothes I wore to the hospital to remind me.
  25. I'm about 40 miles north of Dayton, banded in West Chester on 04/10/09.
