  2. 4th day on pre-op scale says 234 on 4/16. That is down 13 lbs. from last weigh in at my doctor with clothes on. I should have weighed n at home in bday suit on Sunday morning before starting diet but I knew I had been bad the last few weeks and hated to face what the reality of my actions would have been in weight gain. I am happy that I am 13lbs lighter than I was the last time I weighed myself at home. I thank God for helping me to have a good start.

  3. It has been over a year since I have been on here & wow have I missed being able to chat with people that can relate to my weight struggles. This journey has been a up and down roller coaster and I am learing more about myself everyday. I am struggeling with the 52lbs I gained with my pregnancy I just cant lose it! Now to top that off my Dr. informed me I have Gallstones and he wants me to get my gallbladder out and I dont want to! I have read so Many BAD things about weightloss stopping and weight gain after this surgery and I am not doing it! I have 130lbs still to lose till I am at my goal and I will be damned if I am gonna blow it cause I have some discomfort! I have joined a gym something I thought I would never do and more shocking I enjoy it and I know I can lose this weight I am just hitting a few bumps in the road to this thing called success.

My Journey to GAINING the weight!

This is my journey to weight gain if you will. I started gaining weight during my pregnancies. I had my first born in October 2008 then 3 months later I got pregnant and gained 80 lbs the first trimester (3 months) ever since than it has been a struggle with the weight. I gave birth to him in October 2009 and had my last child in October 2012. I am so ready to get this weight off and with exercise and diets it's just not coming off. I'M READY!! THIS IS MY YEAR!! AND THIS IS MY STORY!!

    Pre Op

Through the ups and downs of weight gain and loss.. The most I lost on my own was 23 lbs. to turn around and gain it all back plus some in a semester.
  7. Officially moved my weight back up 2 pounds... I haven't done that before because a day or two weight gain always dropped back down but this one's been around long enough now to change the tracker. :( Oh well... onward and upward -- I'm gonna keep doing what's worked so far.

Look, it could be anything from hormonal, water, or simply omitting something that you have started loving to eat. I stand with you, onwards and upwards, or downwards shall I say :)

      Ginger Snaps

Thanks @jodie1961 -- I was always amazed at how much younger people looked in their after pictures and I've been shocked to do that too!

@BladeFox -- I know, it's natural -- I'm just so close to goal (within 10 pounds) and it's irritating to see that scale go up. Hormones, yes -- eating is still very on track so I don't think it's an eating issue. Of course the first thing that comes to mind is "Is this where my body wants to stay?" But, I'm not giving up on it yet. I'll just keep on keeping on and YES, onwards and DOWNWARDS!

They say the last pounds are the hardest, BUT, it doesn't have to be for everyone. You got this lady!

  8. So today I went in for my 5th fill. I received 0.4cc. That is aggressive for me. I lost 8.4 pounds last month. Some days are better than others, but I am so thankful for my lap band. No weight gain during Thanksgiving!! Really!!! On to Onderland.

  9. One thing I was NOT prepared for when I had my LapBand and lost all my weight was how others reacted to my changes. I was so focused on me and getting healthy that I did not see the others around me seething with toxic thoughts and words. Took me completely by surprise how you know people for years then all of a sudden their true character showed up.

This time around I am prepared but I am totally documenting this journey from the very beginning in my blog! It's been therapeutic to write it all out.

I'm sorry you're having a tough time. It's great to hear you have an appointment this week. That's the right step for sure. My thoughts will be with you that they will be able to work out a treatment plan that will get you on the road to feeling better.....hang in there!

I feel for you, as I have been down that road myself. There are some good anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds that don't make you put on weight. I hope that you will get the right mix. You're welcome to PM me anytime. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon!

The Evolution of My Weight Gain and Loss

I wasn't always obese, in fact, most of my life I was rather fit. Looking back on these pictures it was shocking to me just how fast my weight got out of control. I am sure a number of people can relate, so I figured they were worth sharing.

  15. Friday morning I was 193.2, this morning I was 196.5 - HOW? I know water weight gain, but it sucks!!

  16. So far so good! 27 weeks pregnant! Weight gain is going GREAT! Only gained about 5 pounds!

  17. How are you doing? I had my last fill over a month ago and I think I am going to schedule an appointment for another fill really soon. I don't want to be too tight but the holidays are coming and I don't want to gain. Thank God I have not experienced any weight gain in a while.

  18. I am less than 10lbs from goal. But i have surpassed my first goal my surgeon set for me months ago by 30lbs so i changed my goal to 210ish. I actually had my first weight gain of 3+ LBS. No biggie I mean im lifting more weights and trying to tone now. Also I feel less restriction. I can eat more. Are both of these issues normal? I guess they are not issues but is what I am experiencing normal? A small weight gain as well as ability to eat more? Thank you Christian
  19. Hello everyone. My name is Eric, and I'm a 29 year old Wildland Firefighter from San Bernardino. I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. Despite my physical job, I just haven’t been able to lose weight. I'm 5' 10" 280 Lbs. BMI of 40 with the following lovely conditions: Hypertension, Sleep Apnea, T2 DM, Enlarged Fatty Liver, and kidneys that like to pee protein. I mentioned the Lap Band to my Dr. about 2 months ago. I got a letter saying that my referral to the Center for Health Promotion was approved for pre-bariatric counseling. I met with the dietician yesterday, and asked if I had already been approved for this surgery. She said she believed so. I am on the 3 month diet program and meet with the dietician and Dr. 2 times each before surgery. As far as the diet goes, what are they looking for? Will extreme weight gain or loss change the approval status of a surgery? Also, what can I look forward to when meeting the doctor during the 3 month supervised diet program? Just looking for some insight into the pre-surgery 3 month program. Thanks everyone! PS…does everyone receive an approval letter from their insurance? I have Pacificare HMO, and they do cover bariatric surgery…

    How are you John?

I'm glad its over with. Knee pain can be mindblowing, especially if you sit down or get up to fast. I have wicked arthritis in the knees and degenerative disc disease in my spine along with a few bone spirs and arthritis. I can relate to the bone to bone rubbing. I wouldn't worry about the weight gain, like you said, your knee is swollen so mostlikely its just that plus Water weight. Take it easy, and feel better quick !! (me, I'm just fine and dandy - can't complain lolol thanks for asking )
  21. Well, I got on the scales today and I am up 2 lbs! What is up with this? I've been steadily losing a lb. a day and now I'm up. Guess I'll have to work a little harder.

    I'm Pregnant!

I only gained 12 - 14 lbs with my last three kids. They wete fine. 2 came out 9 lbs and they took the othrr early bc I had a history of *** babies. I did not have the band then but I was careful on my weight gain. Congrats on your pregnancy!

    Feeling Nervous

It's common to be nervous. May I address a couple of your concerns? The band is NOT permanent. You will most likely want it to be, and it's built to be, but if for some reason you want or need it removed, it can be. While there MAY be some scarring around the outside of your stomach, 99% or some huge percentage have no side effects (except weight gain!) once the band is removed. SO if they come up with a miracle cure for obesity, we're good. And I've read (and believe it makes sense) that once the band is in, insurance will cover you if you have issues pertaining to it. You can ask your surgeon for clarification but it is my understanding that once you have it in there, say you DO need it removed due to medical necessity. Insurance will cover that. (a caveat...I am just repeating what I've heard; if you are concerned, besides asking your surgeon it might be prudent to call your insurance company and ask them) What will cost is fills and aftercare and that is mostly frontloaded during the first year, so make sure your surgeon offers you fills included in your package. In the long run, only you will know what it costs you. I personally had prepared to self pay (my insurance covered it) and figured it was cheaper than having the comorbidities and costs of obesity....heart trouble, diabetes, hypertension, sedentary lifestyle, etc. The cost out of pocket, even at the more pricey surgery centers, runs about the cost of a car or small SUV. I figured I am worth a Kia or two.

Cal Pozo, Exercise and Fitness pioneer

Cal Pozo is a fitness instructor, choreographer, director and producer of best selling exercise videos. He was born in 1946 in Cuba and moved to the US in 1960. Though he has been dancing since his early teens Cal made sure education was a priority, attending both Bowling Green University in Ohio and New York University in New York City. After college, while living in New York City, Cal became a dancer in Broadway musicals, including a revival of the original musical West Side Story, which also starred Patrick Swayze. It was during this show, in the late 1970s, when Cal suffered a serious hip injury. This ironic twist of fate was to be Cal’s springboard for launching into the fitness and exercise video industry. Before suffering his debilitating hip injury, Pozo had been a serious dancer with no interest in the exercise and fitness instructional video industry. After suffering through the injury and subsequent rehabilitation, his doctors advised his dancing career was very likely finished. Refusing to accept such a diagnosis, Cal decided to take over on his own rehabilitation program and mixed various dancing and exercise disciplines into a system all his own. Successful completion of his own style of rehabilitation program, which included an approximately forty pound weight gain and loss, started Cal on his path to fitness stardom. 25. Anyone gain weight while doing pre-op test? I feel that once I mentally committed to getting the sleeve and started this process and knowing I wouldnt be able to eat like I do now, I got out of control for a lil bit. I gained 10lbs in 3 months. I felt ashamed when I met with my surgeon for the 2nd time and gained 10lbs. I gotta get mentally ready for this lifestyle change.
