  1. Side effect of sleeve, I have to get all new winter shoes. My old ones do not fit, I literally walk right out of them. I rather replace for weight loss rather than weight gain.

  2. Gained another pound. I hope I don't hear about the weight gain when I go for my fill Wednesday.

  3. I weighed myself a few days after surgery and I went from 238 to 221, but I weighed myself today, now ten days after surgery, and I weigh 226. Is it common to gain a few pounds after surgery? I'm barely eating anything, so I don't know if there's another reason for the weight gain. Thanks.

  4. well hello stranger! good to hear from you! i'm so sorry to hear about the blood clot and weight gain. that's good tho that you have a supportive bf!! i'm sure once you get your fill you will do great! just hang in there sweetie. i'm doing pretty good. i've lost almost 80lbs :) cut all my hair off, i look like a new woman! haha. keep me posted on how everything goes for you, so good to hear from you!

  5. 4th day on pre-op scale says 234 on 4/16. That is down 13 lbs. from last weigh in at my doctor with clothes on. I should have weighed n at home in bday suit on Sunday morning before starting diet but I knew I had been bad the last few weeks and hated to face what the reality of my actions would have been in weight gain. I am happy that I am 13lbs lighter than I was the last time I weighed myself at home. I thank God for helping me to have a good start.

  6. It has been over a year since I have been on here & wow have I missed being able to chat with people that can relate to my weight struggles. This journey has been a up and down roller coaster and I am learing more about myself everyday. I am struggeling with the 52lbs I gained with my pregnancy I just cant lose it! Now to top that off my Dr. informed me I have Gallstones and he wants me to get my gallbladder out and I dont want to! I have read so Many BAD things about weightloss stopping and weight gain after this surgery and I am not doing it! I have 130lbs still to lose till I am at my goal and I will be damned if I am gonna blow it cause I have some discomfort! I have joined a gym something I thought I would never do and more shocking I enjoy it and I know I can lose this weight I am just hitting a few bumps in the road to this thing called success.

My Journey to GAINING the weight!

This is my journey to weight gain if you will. I started gaining weight during my pregnancies. I had my first born in October 2008 then 3 months later I got pregnant and gained 80 lbs the first trimester (3 months) ever since than it has been a struggle with the weight. I gave birth to him in October 2009 and had my last child in October 2012. I am so ready to get this weight off and with exercise and diets it's just not coming off. I'M READY!! THIS IS MY YEAR!! AND THIS IS MY STORY!!

    Pre Op

Through the ups and downs of weight gain and loss.. The most I lost on my own was 23 lbs. to turn around and gain it all back plus some in a semester.
  10. Officially moved my weight back up 2 pounds... I haven't done that before because a day or two weight gain always dropped back down but this one's been around long enough now to change the tracker. :( Oh well... onward and upward -- I'm gonna keep doing what's worked so far.

Look, it could be anything from hormonal, water, or simply omitting something that you have started loving to eat. I stand with you, onwards and upwards, or downwards shall I say :)

      Ginger Snaps

Thanks @jodie1961 -- I was always amazed at how much younger people looked in their after pictures and I've been shocked to do that too!

@BladeFox -- I know, it's natural -- I'm just so close to goal (within 10 pounds) and it's irritating to see that scale go up. Hormones, yes -- eating is still very on track so I don't think it's an eating issue. Of course the first thing that comes to mind is "Is this where my body wants to stay?" But, I'm not giving up on it yet. I'll just keep on keeping on and YES, onwards and DOWNWARDS!

They say the last pounds are the hardest, BUT, it doesn't have to be for everyone. You got this lady!

  11. So today I went in for my 5th fill. I received 0.4cc. That is aggressive for me. I lost 8.4 pounds last month. Some days are better than others, but I am so thankful for my lap band. No weight gain during Thanksgiving!! Really!!! On to Onderland.

  12. One thing I was NOT prepared for when I had my LapBand and lost all my weight was how others reacted to my changes. I was so focused on me and getting healthy that I did not see the others around me seething with toxic thoughts and words. Took me completely by surprise how you know people for years then all of a sudden their true character showed up.

This time around I am prepared but I am totally documenting this journey from the very beginning in my blog! It's been therapeutic to write it all out.

Anyone else have issues with friendships dissolving after WLS?

Created a new blog to journal ALL of my thoughts and progresses

I'm sorry you're having a tough time. It's great to hear you have an appointment this week. That's the right step for sure. My thoughts will be with you that they will be able to work out a treatment plan that will get you on the road to feeling better.....hang in there!

I feel for you, as I have been down that road myself. There are some good anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds that don't make you put on weight. I hope that you will get the right mix. You're welcome to PM me anytime. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon!

The Evolution of My Weight Gain and Loss

I wasn't always obese, in fact, most of my life I was rather fit. Looking back on these pictures it was shocking to me just how fast my weight got out of control. I am sure a number of people can relate, so I figured they were worth sharing.

  17. No holiday weight gain! This is a first for me. YEA

  18. Friday morning I was 193.2, this morning I was 196.5 - HOW? I know water weight gain, but it sucks!!

  19. So far so good! 27 weeks pregnant! Weight gain is going GREAT! Only gained about 5 pounds!

  20. How are you doing? I had my last fill over a month ago and I think I am going to schedule an appointment for another fill really soon. I don't want to be too tight but the holidays are coming and I don't want to gain. Thank God I have not experienced any weight gain in a while.

  21. NJChick

    How are you John?

I'm glad its over with. Knee pain can be mindblowing, especially if you sit down or get up to fast. I have wicked arthritis in the knees and degenerative disc disease in my spine along with a few bone spirs and arthritis. I can relate to the bone to bone rubbing. I wouldn't worry about the weight gain, like you said, your knee is swollen so mostlikely its just that plus Water weight. Take it easy, and feel better quick !! (me, I'm just fine and dandy - can't complain lolol thanks for asking )
  22. I have read into the Phase 1 of this book. I am impressed. Oprah does the forward. Even with the band we have issues. Right? I am involved with this new program with high hopes. My wife has joined me this time. I have high hopes. Anyone have opinions on this book? There is some solid info there. Also the best life products. Barilla has the new Pasta plus out..Its good and better for you. I hate to say it but I had a severe weight gain over the holidays. Gaine 13 lbs in the last 6 weeks, thats never happened in 3 plus years of being banded. I hurt my back in the gym and had to rest plus got the flu. You see what happened when I didnt exercise? BAM here comes the lbs. With my band restriction I can eat if I have the desire to drink with my meals. I feel Im in a good restriction when Im respecting my tools like the band to help me. Thats why I dont want another fill yet. Lifestyle changes is what I want to cure this weight gain. I completely stopped drinking alchohol. I thought this would be a definate weight loser! Nope, I gained. Maybe I replaced that comfort with food. Obviously huh? Better to not drink. Sober 5 months and counting. A record for me. Anyway I am back on track and have my wide joining me for support now. this could be the recipe for success. Lord knows that recipe has worked for everything else. Thanks folks.

    Oh no :( HELP

Unless you can calibrate yours to say the same things as your doctors office, keep your sanity and listen to yours until your next appointment and then you'll see the difference between the two and are able to do the math. scales rarely say the same thing, even two identical models side by side. Just know that you're losing, pay attention to the one at home and like myori said....only weigh in the mornings. Sensitive scales will show a difference after you've eaten a meal or drank your 64 ounces of Fluid and show a weight gain. I hope this makes sense, I just woke up and am still kinda ditzy / foggy right now (not that this isn't normal even after I've been up all day LOL) xoxo, Renee`

    Restriction or Stuck?

I would say you are too tight. If you are hungry between meals because you have not been able to eat a reasonable meal because it hurts too much that is a problem, Going to mushy food as the above poster suggested will not help. The band is designed to work with solid food - you do not want to get into a habit of eating mushies or sliders. They do not fill you up, they are easy to overeat, they leave you hungry and as they are often high calorie they can lead to weight gain. Your Dr also gave you what I would consider to be a huge fill. To go from 5.1 to 8.3 in one go is enormous - flouro or no flouro. I would suggest going for a small unfill.

    Stress eating

It takes time to adjust. It also takes committment and stocking the cupboards with healthy Snacks so that you don't totally return to old habits that will result in weight gain. You got the surgery to lose weight, don't let yourself fall into self sabotage. In the beginning there were times when I just cried - missing the comfort of my go-to (food)....but I let the tears come, and deep breathing, and putting into perspective in my mind. We can't depend on that crutch anymore if we want to succeed at this. I find that we eat so little, as long as your snacks are the right ones you will slowly start to come to terms with this new life. My snacks include a few grapes and a couple of cubes of cheese, or a handful of nuts, a cheese stick and sliced apple, or some olives. Good Luck!!
