    Paperwork submitted to Insurance!

@@kewadiak That's great news! I am getting all my clearances now and just learned that I have gallstones.. So now I am hoping they can do revision and gallbladder removal at the same time.. Will find out what my pre op with surgeon in 9th. Really hope I will wake up and not have to be disappointed that they couldn't do it in one.. I feel like so much to get done, but all I have left is upper GI and chest X-ray, then just blood work and EKG 2 weeks before surgery. Liquid diet starts on 28th... That's next week! Crazyness. I get so much more nervous as it gets closer to the date.
  2. I have no regrets. My only regret is not going with the bypass in the first place. I had multiple complications from the band and I woke up from surgery from the revision with no more pain caused by the band. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

    May 2nd Surgery

Oh no, my surgeon is on board. He wants to do the revision. It's all about the insurance and whether they will approve it. I've seen several posts on here that said their insurance said the revision wasn't medically necessary. That would be a nightmare! All of these appts, time and money just to be heartbroken. Best of luck to you and my hubby on May 2!!!

    May 2nd Surgery

That's good news for your husband! I am sorry that you are going through all this. Would you be denied from your surgeon or insurance? I thought it was pretty common these days to have the revision. I started at 40 bmi (back in August) and was so nervous I was going to drop below and get denied - that I unintentionally gained more weight over the course of 9 months. My process was a bit longer than most, because I was on anti-depressants, but not seeing a therapist. They wanted me to do 12 weeks of therapy. When that was completed, I was weighed in and was told I needed to lose 15lbs to before I was even allowed to meet with my surgeon. It never dawned on me that sleep apnea (I had just been diagnosed) would be considered a co-morbidity, until my nurse confirmed it. Extra anxiety over nothing. You should contact your insurance/surgeon and ask, just in case. Keep me posted on how you both are doing!

    Medically Supervised Diet

Our dr supervised WL class is nothing like it sounds lol. We are just told about the surgery, after surgery, what to expect, watch short videos, and a bit of nutrition advice...all by the NP who assists the surgeon,. Never once have i been told to lose weight. Tomorrow is my last NUT and dr supervised and then I should be submitted. My hubby was approved and will be sleeved on may 2. I need a band to sleeve revision and I am super worried that I wil be denied.
  6. Oh i am so happy to read your story! I'm having revision from band to bypass on April 19th and i am terrified! My biggest fear is that i will never be able to est "normal" foods again....like a nice salad or grilled fish or beef. I dont care about large portions...just to have the variety. Please tell me your experiences with eating now that you are about 4 months post op? Cant wait to hear your story! Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App I had revision surgery on 2/2/16 and I can eat salads, fish and beef. Some people have a harder time with salads but I have no issues. I can't have sugar, especially something that has sugar and is liquid. Instant horrible nausea. I carry anti-nausea meds with me because I'm never quite sure when my tummy will not agree with what I ate. I'm making much better food choices now and I'm so happy. May 2nd Surgery

That's my husband's surgery date too! Very exciting! He has completed all of his appts with the last one today, the upper endoscopy. He is ready! Maybe they will be able to move up his surgery date, which would be even better. I will have completed my 3 months of jumping through ins/dr hoops tomorrow so my case will be submitted to insurance. My case is a bit different from my hubbies tho. He has many co-morbodities so I knew he'd be approved. I have sleep apnea and BMI of 37, but I also have a band that I want removed and then sleeved, hopefully all at once. I've read sooooooooo many revision stories on here and I would estimate about 50% are denied. I am not feeling very hopeful
  8. Saw my surgeon on Monday and he feels that the decision to move forward with band revision to bypass is the best option for me . I am attending my first of 2 required support group meetings tonight and waiting to receive the list of names and numbers to set up the rest of appointments required by this specific bariatric program. I am hoping within 2- 2.5 months from now I can be ready for my new chapter. Can I please get some updates from people that have been revised and the first few months ... how did your life change ? pain , discomfort , new foods , tired , any thing to put this whole journey into a realistic perspective.
  9. In general, RNY gastric bypass is recommended over sleeve for patients suffering from severe acid reflux. This is because the sleeve will only make the condition worse. I knew one person personally who went from band to bypass. In his case the band was wearing into his stomach and his stomach was about to rupture. I don't think you will incur any more risk because you have a low BMI in getting a revision from band to bypass. I suspect that in reality, the risk will be much less. In the case of the individual that I mentioned, because there was scare tissue from the band removal, then they rerouted his stomach, his pouch was a little smaller than most operations. But he was fine with that. It just meant that he had to consume a little less food during his meals.
  10. Don't be just do everything u have to. I went through 3 appeal Denied. And I took it to external appeal Approved. Yeahhhh. Went in for surgery for revision April 5th band had slipped doctor wanted it to heal. Woke up unsleeved rescheduled for sleeve may 24th. 12. Hi all I'm in the UK. I had a gastric band in 2009. I did lose weight but had constant vomiting, reflux, heartburn, etc. Only when it was too tight did I manage to get to nearly my goal weight. I have had it checked under x-ray to rule out complications. I have around 11 kilos to go. According to NHS guidelines I am overweight. However, my BMI is 26 and no-one in the UK will touch me. There are a few places outside the UK that offer the sleeve but I can see from this forum that people are starting to need revision from this. The bypass is the gold standard and this is what I would aim for. To undergo the cost, worry and hassle of a second bariatric surgery means I want to get it right this time and not be looking at a third surgery several years down the line. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I wish I'd had the bypass in the first place. Anyway - I have found somewhere that will do the bypass but I am very concerned. No-one can seem to tell me what the real risks are of bypass with a BMI of 26. Guidelines seem to talk about cost effectiveness. So why is it you can't have a bypass at BMI of 34 and with one additional point, at 35 - hey presto it's ok. Can anyone advise please?

    Esophageal Erosion

I've never had acid reflux before until I had the sleeve done. I'm 3 weeks out and I've been having really bad heartburn/acid reflux. I want to avoid any serious complications and I DEFINITELY want to avoid having another revision and now for the bypass. The sleeve is as far as I go. I'm hoping it doesn't get to that point:-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Esophageal Erosion

My acid reflux got so much worse with the sleeve. If I miss a dose of Nexium I end up in the ER. As soon as I have enough money I am getting revision surgery to a bypass. This is suppose to improve or eliminate the acid. Have you been seen by a GI doctor? Mine said the sleeve was causing my problem and keep taking the medicine. The only think about that is I just heard long term use of those type medicines can cause kidney disease. You need to get seen, erosion is serious.
  15. I had a lapband to bypass revision....best decision for me...My suggestion...if you have lots of weight to lose consider the bypass.

    Galbladder?

Hi all, Does anyone have experience with having their gallbladder removed at the same time of initial surgery or revision? How did it go and how are you feeling now? Recovery? Found out today I have gallstones so hoping they can remove it at the same time so I don't have to go under twice. Thanks!
  17. It's about 10 lbs a month, I think it's awesome! If I lose this way I will be more than happy. You are doing great job, keep on up! How much more do you want to lose? I am starting liquid diet on 28th, can believe how fast time is going by.. Found out today I have gallstones so might be getting my gallbladder removed at the revision time. Hopefully.

    Frustrated over Insurance Denial

This is what I am worried about. BCBS may not think my revision is medically necessary. So the doc is going to have to make the case that I've been vomiting for years and have already had one slipped band (not this current one tho as I had an upper GI-all looks ok) and a hiatal hernia. The other band was replaced under a previous insurance. It is REALLY going to suck when/if my husband has his sleeve and I'm still stuck with the band that is nothing but trouble. What state are u in, bcbs is different in each state. Your story worries me because I have Bcbstx and I'm currently waiting on insurance approval to have my band removed, and revise to the sleeve. Bcbstx does pay for first surgery, 2nd and revisions, they list requirements for each. I meet their requirements for 2nd surgery which would be removal, and I also meet revision if I have slip, dilation or erosion. My surgeon says I have some slip, just don't know if it's enough for them, so I'm still waiting to see what they say, its been 1 week since documents where submitted Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App
  19. I have suffered with the lapband for years finally had a revision to bypass in December 28 2015, Down about 40 pounds...yes I have PCOS but wow.I thought I would be down more than 40 pounds by now....a slowwwww....loser!
  20. Why would a doctor say "you can do the sleeve then revise to bypass"Your body and your health is not a joke.He may think it's great to cram in surgeries and make money off performing multiple surgeries but believe me you want to have one surgery. The best that works for you.Lose that surgeon.Find one that listens to you....not the other way around....
  21. I had a revision to bypass and I am so damn happy about it!!!

    Looking for a buddy

I am scheduled for a revision July 13. Had my original bypass in 2001 .Doing all the work ups now. I'm in Walnut Ca where are you Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. I first posted in this topic back in January. I had my first appointment with the surgeon on February 11 and he asked me which surgery I wanted. I told him the gastric bypass then he proceeded to tell me that he wouldn't do the bypass on me and would only do the sleeve because my BMI of 64 (weight was 399) at the time was too high and it was too risky then he told me to lift up my shirt and show him my belly, then said again I was too big. I was dumbfounded! Most doctors prefer the bypass for the heavier patients so I don't understand this at all. Then his dietician came in and said I had to lose 30 lbs before surgery but on my next appointment with her I saw paperwork that said 40 lbs. I'm waiting on my 3rd appointment on May 4 to clarify this but I'm down 21 lbs so far. I'm extremely frustrated because I've been going through this process for exactly a year now because their office keeps rescheduling my appointments. The day after my first appointment I had my endoscopy and it showed that I had several ulcers. I was put on Omeprazole and I think they are healed, but if I am prone to ulcers, isn't this yet another reason to do the bypass over the sleeve? I've had lots of time to mull this over while on my pre-op diet and I am convinced that I will fail with the sleeve and I know my body and I feel the bypass is what I need. I haven't seen the surgeon again since the first appointment so I'm hoping having had the ulcers will change his mind, but I am seriously contemplating looking into changing doctors if he still insists on only doing the sleeve. He tried to tell me I could do the sleeve then revise to the bypass, but why would I want to go through surgery twice if I don't have to? Also, my insurance is covering this 100% so I really doubt they will cover it a second time. My surgeon's office is a Center of Excellence and he has even appeared on TV a couple of times advertising his surgeries on a news show. Any thoughts on all this?

    Regrets?

I had the lap band and only my husband knows, not even my kids. I'm having the lap band removed due to some serious complications, and at the same time revising it to the sleeve, and again the only person that knows is my husband, and my co workers that will be on my team, I work in the OR. Maybe in time I'll tell others but don't see why I need to. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App
