  1. I wholeheartedly agree with the stirring recommendation - makes it smoother in my opinion. The non-fat greek yogurt can be a little "grainy" in texture in my opinion but I found that stirring it a LOT helped tremendously with that. Also, if you aren't opposed to artificial sweetener, try flavoring it with sugar-free torani syrups.
  2. It is crazy how each Dr is different. Soft foods for me is the longest of the stages lasting 4 weeks, but the other stages were anywhere from 2 to 5 days. Even in the full liquids, I was allowed pudding, yogurt and creamed soups. I'm definitely one of the lucky ones cause I don't see how some handled such limitations.

    Getting Non-Fat Greek Yogurt Down

Light and fit has a good low carb Greek yogurt. My suggestion though is to stir vigorously before eating,it will make it not so think. Sent from my XT1528 using the BariatricPal App

  8. Hey guys. So I get migraines from stevia, truvia, aspartame, Splenda (sucralose) etc. I can't do the usual Protein prowders or shakes since the majority contain those sugars. I'm going to try GENEPRO (3 tbsp per my nurse) and unflavored unjury for the next 2 weeks. I'm thinking of doing genepro/Unjury shakes/smoothies (with low fat Greek yogurt), slushies, broth (flavored with ms. Dash) or flavored broth. Any other ideas on how to switch it up? Thanks in advance!
  9. I dislike the taste of Greek Yogurt as well but I have found that I like the Yopliat Whipped Greek Yogurt . Very light and a wide variety of flavors..
  10. I couldn't even tolerate the smell of Greek yogurt let alone the taste. I have found that the yoplait light ones aren't too bad. Not as thick and gross as some of the others I have had. Like others have said you just have to play around till you find one you like.

    Protein

Non fat Greek yogurt with a scoop of vanilla Protein powder worked for me when I was tired of shakes. Purée some fruit on top taste like cheesecake. I ate that which gave me 32g of protein and I drunk low fat chocolate milk for a extra 16g of protein Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. TIJUANA BARIATRICS :: 4/1 :: I always wanted to be able to read someone's journey start to finish in quick updates! Especially someone who was having their procedure done in Tijuana. So I am going to try and do some highlights on this post and continually update it through my process... Stats:: 5'5" HW::249 PreOp:: 235 Having surgery at Tijuana Bariatrics with Dr. Garcia. Paid $4,250... I might add on an extra $500 and have them take my gallbladder while they are in there. I really don't want to risk complications with that later on. Started 10 day pre op diet 3/20 and lost almost 15 lbs. Yesterday's laxative cleanse sure didn't hurt! Lol wasn't bad at all. Flew into San Diego Airport 3/31, picked up by driver Luis in an older white minivan. We have to wait for someone else who is flying in at 10:50 AM, so we drove over by the wharf and I'm sitting on a bench looking at the pretty water and boats. 3/31 12 PM:: arrived at hospital and signed a bunch of consent forms. Everyone is super nice and everything looks pristine! I have seen a bunch of people up and walking, who just had their surgery a few hours ago. The lady I drove with from the airport was taken back just now to have her surgery. Mine is tomorrow at 8 AM! 3/31 5 PM:: I had my blood drawn and and EKG done. All seems good. I spoke with two Drs who explained the process and answered any questions. It's nice to have it explained over and over just for reassurance. Everyone is so nice. I asked about getting my gallbladder out, and the Dr said she wouldnt recommend it unless i've had trouble with it before, or the DR sees something while he is in there. She said surgery is shorter and recovery is easier just doing the sleeve. She also said, surgery for gallbladder removal if needed, is safer and easier when I have lost weight. So, I opted out. I'll take my chances I guess. She also sent me home with a sleeping pill which I requested. I was so worried about staying up all night second guessing this decision. In my hotel room now at the Marriott. It's a very nice hotel and I have already called in for my free room service twice. Dr said I could have a plate of fruit and some yogurt. It was heaven after two days of clear liquids! I just had the broth, and it was SO GOOD! I bought a bunch of different broth at home and HATED it! So that was a welcome surprise... I'm first surgery tomorrow, I have to be in the lobby at 6:45 AM and surgery is scheduled for 8! 4/1:: My surgery was at 8 AM, as soon as I arrived from the hotel I was taken to the 2nd floor and prepped for surgery. Next thing I know, I'm out of service. I had some gas pains and was really sleepy. I kept asking to walk, because I wanted the gas pains gone, but then I would fall asleep. As soon as I was more conscious they took me up to my room and BAM the gas pains hit. I immediately walked around. Did nothing for the gas pains. In fact nothing has done anything for the gas pains except for the one time I threw up. I usually hate throwing up, but this really wasn't bad. Which is odd.. So with the intense gas pains I was not feeling up to anything. I set my alarm for every hour and would walk for 15-20 min. The nurses come in every two house and test vitals and adjust iv/pain medication. An unexpected feeling I have is hunger. I feel so hungry! I thought that wasn't supposed to happen. I am really looking forward to sipping on gatorade today. yay! hopefully that doesn't something for the hunger pain. 4/2:: Gas pains are still there, but not as intense as they were, thank God! Feeling a little more sore, and a lot more hungry. It's crazy how this effects everyone differently. One lady has major nausea, one just feels like she has done sit ups and i have the gas pains. Here is hoping these gas pains will break up and the gatorade will help with the hunger! 4/3:: Today was ROUGH... No other way to put it. Getting woken up every two hours for an IV or vitals check is necessary but it takes a toll on you. Woken up at 6 AM to shower and change bandages. Then pack up and head to clinic for X-Ray. Feeling exhausted and gross the whole time. Then you have to take a shot of the worst tasting medicine, while trying to not drink too much at one time. I almost puked on the X-ray machine. Then back to the hospital to get drain removed. Had diarrhea while waiting. Still feeling awful. Drain removal is quick and weird. We are then taken to hotel. Major headache, nausea and fatigue. Seriously felt so awful. Fell asleep before our meeting at 1:30 to learn about our meds and wound cleaning. Diarrhea more before meeting. At meeting she says let her know if you have, I told her I did. Start crying. Embarrassing. Anatallia orders a bunch of meds from pharmacy for me. On top of the other stuff I'm supposed to take. Take first set of pills. Throw up. Feel better. And have slowly gotten better since then. But again, ROUGH day. I think the exhaustion escalated everything. I panicked that something was really wrong, then worried about how to tell someone I had major surgery in Tijuana and now I'm sick. Without just getting a lot of eye rolls back. But now with sleep, liquids and slowly taking medicine feeling a little better. Going back to sleep. 4/4:: So much better today! I slept almost all day yesterday. It was so needed. No sight seeing for me, just rest, liquids and pacing around my hotel room. But it was worth it. I feel a million times better. Been on top of all my meds, showered, clean wounds and getting staples out in the next hour! I go home tomorrow! I think I am having some reflux that feels like hunger, it comes in waves and I'm looking into antacids to purchase when I get home along with all of my vitamins. Diarrhea has been a lot less today, but still there. Making sure to drink the pedialyte the Dr recommended. The last thing i want to do is get dehydrated. I have some gatorade (all that they sell at the hotel) and I think it is causing some discomfort because its the full sugar one. Asked husband to stock up for when I get home on G2 Gatorade. Hopefully that won't won't give as much stomach pain. Although pain is minimal now. Hopefully getting staples out helps as well. Broth, pedialyte, and water are my constants while I am awake. Looking forward to sleep tonight. I have tried to stay awake majority of the day today so I can get solid sleep tonight! Fingers crossed travel home won't be too rough! .... To be continued.

    Why is everything sweet?

As far as soups I've just bought the canned creamed soups (chicken, mushroom etc). I was hoping to hide some unflavored Protein powder in them but there's no way in the world to eat enough soup to waste the powder on, 2-3 small bites and you're full. They don't taste right to me either, maybe something post op. I found the easiest way to get protein in is to mix 1/2 a scoop unjury unflavored (~10gm) to a cup of Oikos zero of my choosing (~15gm). Eating two of those throughout the day is 50gm. My dietary plan allows yogurt during the full/thickened liquid phase. Thanks for this idea. I am four days post op and just can not do the protein drinks. In two days I can have yogurt I'm going to have to get some unflavored protein. Does it make it really thick and gritty? The Unjury powder makes it a little thicker but not much and not gritty at all. When I first tried I used a whole scoop and it was horrid, I don't advise that! =) I eat mine with a fork taking tiny bites and it takes a while to get it all in, but it works. I can't stomach the shakes post op either.
  14. Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt has 80 calories and 12g Protein. Fat free. The Key Lime is really good.
  15. There are so many different ones. I would recommend that you try one of this and one of that until you land upon the one for you. There are many that have 100calories or even 80calories with about 12-15g of Protein. The plain greek yogurts really need a pack of sweetener added to keep the sourness at bay. Then have fun added a few drops of one of the dozens of flavored extracts in the spice isle. One of my favorite extracts is root beer added to vanilla--root beer float! Time to play "Mad Scientist" and experiment, experiment, experiment. Have fun with it.
  16. I am not a yogurt fan at all and have tried the Greek. You do need to try different brands, they taste a different. I added plain fruit to it; blueberry is my favorite. Any berry really. That is the only way I can stand it. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  18. Go try Kroger's Carbmaster line. It has artificial sweeteners, but otherwise it's a great way to get in Protein and low carb (around 4 grams of carbs and 9 grams protein). And they have a ton of flavors. Or try flavored greek yogurt but you'll need to be much more aware of the carbs due to fruit/sugar add-ins. Eating plain greek yogurt without sweetener is awful unless you use it as a sour cream substitute (which I do). I also use it to mix in with scramble eggs (add a table spoon to two eggs, beat with a fork to scramble then cook as normal. You'll get yummy creamy scrambled eggs and extra protein)

What Are Your Fast Food Faves?

Wendy's Chili, Chic Fil A chicken tortilla Soup. Also on occasion I get the yogurt parfair at McDonald's.. can't eat burgers or fries.
  20. My dietitian has recommended I eat non-fat Greek yogurt. I know this is a popular food among bariatric patients, but, for the life of me, I just can't get it down. Right now I'm trying Fage Total 0% plain yogurt with a little vanilla extract and cinnamon (her suggestion.) It's far too sour. Is this just a particularly bad brand? Any suggestions for helping those of us who don't care for sour tolerate nonfat Greek yogurt?
  21. 2 grams of protein for 30 calories doesn't seem like much of a bargain. A serving of Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt is only 80 calories and gives you 12 grams of protein. Heck, a quarter cup of Halo Top ice cream is 30 calories and gives you 3 grams of protein and it's ice cream!
  22. Okay, so it sounds like you are able to eat a pretty normal amount of post-sleeve food. Your restriction will probably lessen a little around 9 months out, but where you are now is normal for how far post-op you are. How many times are you eating a day? Here's about what I was doing at your stage to get my 100 grams of Protein in: Breakfast: Protein Bar/Shake (20 grams) Morning Snack: Reduced Fat String cheese (8 grams) Lunch: Leftover meat from a Previous dinner, usually about 2-3 ounces (16-20 grams) Afternoon Snack: Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt (12 grams) Dinner: Meat, usually about 2-3 ounces (16-20 grams) After Dinner Snack: Protein Bar/Shake (20 grams) The "meat" I had for dinner was usually a portion of whatever protein my husband cooked for his dinner, usually half as much as he served himself and then I would save the other "half of my half" for a later lunch. So if he made meatloaf and mashed potatoes, I'd eat half of my portion and store the other half... and no potatoes obviously. Or if he did chicken and rice, same thing. I would skip the rice altogether and save half of my serving for lunch.
  23. I have a strange question .... For about the last 3 months ... I've been having this feeling like my stomach is eating itself ... Is that the new "hey I'm hungry" feeling? It's quite the feeling ... And I'm probably not explaining it right ... But I have a Protein shake for Breakfast between 7am - 8am ... Then about 10:00 - 10:30 that feeling starts ... so I'll have a handful or 2 of peanuts ... Seems to quiet the monster ... I eat a P3 around noon .... Usually around 3:00 it starts again ... sometimes I'll have a handful of peanuts or a yogurt ... ( not always ) Between 4:00 - 5:00 ... I have another Protein Shake ... Then dinner when I get home around 6:30 ... usually a hot dog ( seems I have an obsession right now ) I mean seriously ... I think about it all the way home ... Night snack is usually 3 bites of a Protein Bar OR a SF fudgesicle ... So I'm thinking the feeling IS the new "hey stupid, feed me" feeling ... Does anyone else have an opinion / advice ?
  24. So I am officially 2 weeks post-op today. Thought I'd share my experience for those interested. We'll start with the stats. I've lost 18 lbs since the surgery, and 64 lbs since I started this process 8 weeks ago tomorrow. The surgery apparently went very well, doctor said it was one of the smoothest he'd had. There was awful pain post-op that lasted about 5 hours. It really was bad, probably the worst pain I've ever experience. It quickly subsided after that, and I have really had a pretty easy time with it since. I went home the day after surgery, and began adding Protein shakes and Water on day 2 post-op. Things went well, and I was able to get my required 60 grams of protein and 64 oz of water almost right away. The afternoon of Day 8, for what seemed to be no reason, I started feeling very nauseated, and extremely tired. By Day 9, I could not stomach the thought of Protein Shakes of any sort (which I absolutely hate since surgery BTW). Day 9 consisted of me just basically just getting in my water, and even that was a struggle. By mid afternoon I was feeling so horrible, and I thought I was having the beginnings of a panic attack. I was sweaty, dizzy, and felt like I was going to pass out. I decided to take my blood pressure out of curiosity, and it was 98/45. I was obviously a bit freaked out, and called the doc. He speculated that it was most likely that I had lost so much weight so fast that I was probably over-medicated now for my high blood pressure. I was taking 10mg of Amlodopine and 100-25 of Losartan-HCTZ. He had me stop the Losartan completely, and take half of my Amlodopine starting the next morning. I felt better (but not great) on Day 10, but by Day 11, I was 100% back and feeling great again. I had started a tiny bit of applesauce on Day 9, tried yogurt, but could not stand the taste. Day 11, I added in cottage cheese, and Day 13 started with some roasted sweet potatoes. food has been absolutely no issue whatsoever. With the exception of the BP issue, nothing has made me nauseous, and while I have no sense of hunger, I also have no sense of feeling full. I actually find the process frustrating as I feel I am trying to sort out quantities, frequencies, etc by myself. And while it's going very smoothly, I have a lot of self-doubt about rather I'm "doing it right." My doctor does not give quantity guidelines as he feels it varies so much from person to person. He also does not give calorie guidelines as he doesn't care about calories as long as people are putting the "right" foods in their bodies (I know this is VERY different from most). I reached out to the BariatricPal community and asked to see what their doctors recommended in regards to quantity, which has been helpful. I saw that there were recommendations not to exceed 4 oz per meal, so I have been sticking with that, but I can definitely eat 4oz of cottage cheese with no problem at all. Never get a sense of fullness (again, I'm also never hungry), never feel back pain/pressure, or pain/pressure in my chest or any of the other symptoms I hear about. All in all, I consider myself very lucky. Things have gone as close to perfect as possible. Even the blood pressure issue, while unpleasant, is exactly what I was hoping to get from the surgery. And while the food re-introduction is stressful for me, it couldn't be going better. Just thought I would share my experience to-date for those who maybe going through the same thing, or about to be! EDIT: Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, I'm only about 7 lbs away from not being morbidly obese for the first time since I can remember (probably at least 15 years). He's to being severely obese (for now)!

Need some one to kick my a**

I am very sorry for your loss, I sure hope it was an accident. Sometimes you need to grieve your own way and well sometimes that involves food. Try to start thinking of all of the happy times you had together, this may help lift your spirits. As far as food goes, one day at a time. right now I am eating a high protein breakfast(egg, chicken skewer from Costco), lunch is a spring mix salad and a protein(chicken, turkey, fish), dinner is another protein and small amount of vegetable and snack could be yogurt with applesauce, protein bar, hot mocha(instant coffee with 25 calorie hot chocolate, yum)! Also I enjoy turkey slice with cream cheese, rice cake with peanut butter or cream cheese. Hang in there, each day will get better and relish all of the wonderful days you had together.
