Getting Non-Fat Greek Yogurt Down
Valentina replied to Ignatius's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are so many different ones. I would recommend that you try one of this and one of that until you land upon the one for you. There are many that have 100calories or even 80calories with about 12-15g of Protein. The plain greek yogurts really need a pack of sweetener added to keep the sourness at bay. Then have fun added a few drops of one of the dozens of flavored extracts in the spice isle. One of my favorite extracts is root beer added to vanilla--root beer float! Time to play "Mad Scientist" and experiment, experiment, experiment. Have fun with it. -
Getting Non-Fat Greek Yogurt Down

I am not a yogurt fan at all and have tried the Greek. You do need to try different brands, they taste a different. I added plain fruit to it; blueberry is my favorite. Any berry really. That is the only way I can stand it. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Why is everything sweet?
cat saaski replied to doppelganger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as soups I've just bought the canned creamed soups (chicken, mushroom etc). I was hoping to hide some unflavored Protein powder in them but there's no way in the world to eat enough soup to waste the powder on, 2-3 small bites and you're full. They don't taste right to me either, maybe something post op. I found the easiest way to get protein in is to mix 1/2 a scoop unjury unflavored (~10gm) to a cup of Oikos zero of my choosing (~15gm). Eating two of those throughout the day is 50gm. My dietary plan allows yogurt during the full/thickened liquid phase. Thanks for this idea. I am four days post op and just can not do the Protein drinks. In two days I can have yogurt I'm going to have to get some unflavored protein. Does it make it really thick and gritty? -
Getting Non-Fat Greek Yogurt Down

Go try Kroger's Carbmaster line. It has artificial sweeteners, but otherwise it's a great way to get in Protein and low carb (around 4 grams of carbs and 9 grams protein). And they have a ton of flavors. Or try flavored greek yogurt but you'll need to be much more aware of the carbs due to fruit/sugar add-ins. Eating plain greek yogurt without sweetener is awful unless you use it as a sour cream substitute (which I do). I also use it to mix in with scramble eggs (add a table spoon to two eggs, beat with a fork to scramble then cook as normal. You'll get yummy creamy scrambled eggs and extra protein) -
Wendy's Chili, Chic Fil A chicken tortilla Soup. Also on occasion I get the yogurt parfair at McDonald's.. can't eat burgers or fries.

My dietitian has recommended I eat non-fat Greek yogurt. I know this is a popular food among bariatric patients, but, for the life of me, I just can't get it down. Right now I'm trying Fage Total 0% plain yogurt with a little vanilla extract and cinnamon (her suggestion.) It's far too sour. Is this just a particularly bad brand? Any suggestions for helping those of us who don't care for sour tolerate nonfat Greek yogurt?

MY new discovery hope it helps someone

2 grams of protein for 30 calories doesn't seem like much of a bargain. A serving of Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt is only 80 calories and gives you 12 grams of protein. Heck, a quarter cup of Halo Top ice cream is 30 calories and gives you 3 grams of protein and it's ice cream! -
2 months out and still can't get in all my liquids and protein!
JamieLogical replied to JennsJourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, so it sounds like you are able to eat a pretty normal amount of post-sleeve food. Your restriction will probably lessen a little around 9 months out, but where you are now is normal for how far post-op you are. How many times are you eating a day? Here's about what I was doing at your stage to get my 100 grams of Protein in: Breakfast: Protein Bar/Shake (20 grams) Morning Snack: Reduced Fat String cheese (8 grams) Lunch: Leftover meat from a Previous dinner, usually about 2-3 ounces (16-20 grams) Afternoon Snack: Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt (12 grams) Dinner: Meat, usually about 2-3 ounces (16-20 grams) After Dinner Snack: Protein Bar/Shake (20 grams) The "meat" I had for dinner was usually a portion of whatever protein my husband cooked for his dinner, usually half as much as he served himself and then I would save the other "half of my half" for a later lunch. So if he made meatloaf and mashed potatoes, I'd eat half of my portion and store the other half... and no potatoes obviously. Or if he did chicken and rice, same thing. I would skip the rice altogether and save half of my serving for lunch. -
I have a strange question .... For about the last 3 months ... I've been having this feeling like my stomach is eating itself ... Is that the new "hey I'm hungry" feeling? It's quite the feeling ... And I'm probably not explaining it right ... But I have a Protein shake for Breakfast between 7am - 8am ... Then about 10:00 - 10:30 that feeling starts ... so I'll have a handful or 2 of peanuts ... Seems to quiet the monster ... I eat a P3 around noon .... Usually around 3:00 it starts again ... sometimes I'll have a handful of peanuts or a yogurt ... ( not always ) Between 4:00 - 5:00 ... I have another Protein Shake ... Then dinner when I get home around 6:30 ... usually a hot dog ( seems I have an obsession right now ) I mean seriously ... I think about it all the way home ... Night snack is usually 3 bites of a Protein Bar OR a SF fudgesicle ... So I'm thinking the feeling IS the new "hey stupid, feed me" feeling ... Does anyone else have an opinion / advice ?

So I am officially 2 weeks post-op today. Thought I'd share my experience for those interested. We'll start with the stats. I've lost 18 lbs since the surgery, and 64 lbs since I started this process 8 weeks ago tomorrow. The surgery apparently went very well, doctor said it was one of the smoothest he'd had. There was awful pain post-op that lasted about 5 hours. It really was bad, probably the worst pain I've ever experience. It quickly subsided after that, and I have really had a pretty easy time with it since. I went home the day after surgery, and began adding Protein shakes and Water on day 2 post-op. Things went well, and I was able to get my required 60 grams of protein and 64 oz of water almost right away. The afternoon of Day 8, for what seemed to be no reason, I started feeling very nauseated, and extremely tired. By Day 9, I could not stomach the thought of Protein Shakes of any sort (which I absolutely hate since surgery BTW). Day 9 consisted of me just basically just getting in my water, and even that was a struggle. By mid afternoon I was feeling so horrible, and I thought I was having the beginnings of a panic attack. I was sweaty, dizzy, and felt like I was going to pass out. I decided to take my blood pressure out of curiosity, and it was 98/45. I was obviously a bit freaked out, and called the doc. He speculated that it was most likely that I had lost so much weight so fast that I was probably over-medicated now for my high blood pressure. I was taking 10mg of Amlodopine and 100-25 of Losartan-HCTZ. He had me stop the Losartan completely, and take half of my Amlodopine starting the next morning. I felt better (but not great) on Day 10, but by Day 11, I was 100% back and feeling great again. I had started a tiny bit of applesauce on Day 9, tried yogurt, but could not stand the taste. Day 11, I added in cottage cheese, and Day 13 started with some roasted sweet potatoes. food has been absolutely no issue whatsoever. With the exception of the BP issue, nothing has made me nauseous, and while I have no sense of hunger, I also have no sense of feeling full. I actually find the process frustrating as I feel I am trying to sort out quantities, frequencies, etc by myself. And while it's going very smoothly, I have a lot of self-doubt about rather I'm "doing it right." My doctor does not give quantity guidelines as he feels it varies so much from person to person. He also does not give calorie guidelines as he doesn't care about calories as long as people are putting the "right" foods in their bodies (I know this is VERY different from most). I reached out to the BariatricPal community and asked to see what their doctors recommended in regards to quantity, which has been helpful. I saw that there were recommendations not to exceed 4 oz per meal, so I have been sticking with that, but I can definitely eat 4oz of cottage cheese with no problem at all. Never get a sense of fullness (again, I'm also never hungry), never feel back pain/pressure, or pain/pressure in my chest or any of the other symptoms I hear about. All in all, I consider myself very lucky. Things have gone as close to perfect as possible. Even the blood pressure issue, while unpleasant, is exactly what I was hoping to get from the surgery. And while the food re-introduction is stressful for me, it couldn't be going better. Just thought I would share my experience to-date for those who maybe going through the same thing, or about to be! EDIT: Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, I'm only about 7 lbs away from not being morbidly obese for the first time since I can remember (probably at least 15 years). He's to being severely obese (for now)!

I am very sorry for your loss, I sure hope it was an accident. Sometimes you need to grieve your own way and well sometimes that involves food. Try to start thinking of all of the happy times you had together, this may help lift your spirits. As far as food goes, one day at a time. right now I am eating a high protein breakfast(egg, chicken skewer from Costco), lunch is a spring mix salad and a protein(chicken, turkey, fish), dinner is another protein and small amount of vegetable and snack could be yogurt with applesauce, protein bar, hot mocha(instant coffee with 25 calorie hot chocolate, yum)! Also I enjoy turkey slice with cream cheese, rice cake with peanut butter or cream cheese. Hang in there, each day will get better and relish all of the wonderful days you had together.

Honestly why r men A****? 5days post op

This thread is great for the newbies that are recently post dealing with this kind of issue. I think all of us talked to our SO and hoped the "got it". Some do, some don't. Keep talking, use the thread hear as a reason to bring it up - even if the are being angels and not tempting you with food. I am one of the lucky ones, hubby has ate a lot better with me from the start. I never had the "don't eat in front of me conversation" with him or adult son. They ate as usual, I just ate (drank) what I was supposed to and moved on. My soft food started day 3, so I was eating yogurt, scrambled eggs, etc when they were eating KFC, burgers, hotdogs, etc. We were living in a RV for the first 2 weeks post so we were eating 'easy' meals. I did my pre-op/post-op in a 25' RV with food cooked on the grill or quick cook type meals. Maybe that's why it was easier on me. I also staying moving and wouldn't stay around the food -
Once on full liquids - per my. NUT- I was able to add puddings, yogurt and hot cereals. I mix 1/4 c of Greek yogurt with 1/4 c of cream of wheat cereal. This combo really seems to do the trick. As an aside, I left the " regular' Cream of Wheat and moved to the baby wheat cereal. It's much easier to make a small batch with and a smoother consistency.

My protein is going down faster when I double the scoop to the same amount of liquid, or, I add one scoop of a flavored protein and one scoop of unflavored. Only gets a bit thicker but by volume of liquid it's the same but way more protein. My am shake totals 48 g ( I use water) and I get the additional in with yogurt. My buddy here adds protein powder to her yogurt!

Who else got sleeved on the 28th of march?
Violetsrblue replied to elaina831's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a revision done on the 29th. From band to sleeve. So far I can tolerate almost anything. Except today I tried some watered down hummus and felt terribly sick after. That was the 1st real time I've had any nausea, or thought I might throw up. I'm terrified of vomitting, and rupturing a suture. I'm still struggling to get all my Water in. But so far, I've had blended Beans, oatmeal, avocado w/ plain Greek yogurt, and Protein shakes. Everything is blended super fine. Maybe the hummus was too thick still, or too heavy. Activity wise, I can walk around stores and the mall, but have to take it very slow, or I'll feel faint. I have a lot of head hunger, and feel like I need to chew things. Luckily, I haven't had much gas pains, walking seems to help. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App -
My liquid diet consists of Protein shakes, broth, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Gelatin, decaf coffee/tea, crystal lite, white cranberry juice/grape juice. All sugar free. I've added some Light and Fit Greek yogurts to the mix because I need something a bit thicker than broth.

I had my surgery on Friday April 1 Okay, so, my surgeon gave me a book for all the information that I need regarding before, during and after surgery. So I was just reading up on post op diet this morning and there is some conflicting information in here. One part says I can start the full liquid diet after I leave the hospital, another part says to start full liquids on day 5. I would love to start full liquids now as it would be much easier for me to get my Protein, liquid and calories. I'm having a hard time right now. Today I did get down two Sobe Lifewater Zero's. One had half a scoop of Protein powder. I also got in a high protein chicken bullion, but all that adds up to 55 oz fluids, 30 g protein and 135 calories. I am not at all hungry and getting this down is a chore. If I could just switch to my Premier Protien shakes and some yogurt I would be so happy. I'm just not sure.

Surgery February 9th, scared I'm going to gain weight
KellyRN replied to KellyRN's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Protein shakes (160 calories each), low fat string cheese, chicken breast, turkey breast, salmon, yogurt. I'm not eating bread, rice, or potatoes. If you read my post, you'd notice that I said I stay UNDER 1,200 calories per day, not that I eat 1,200 calories a day. Most days I don't even get near that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I am 12 days post op and my doctor said I could try to ease soft foods in slowly. I tried a string cheese eating very slowly. I must have bitten off more than I should and I honestly thought I was going to die. I was in severe pain and burning up with nausea. I had to pull over while driving a half hour after and walk around until it passed. I am back to yogurt and shakes for awhile. It definitely made me not want to try anything more so soon. One year after sleeve surgery can you eat a whole bagel with cream cheese?
Alex Brecher replied to Gail Ann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Gail Ann, I think it makes sense to be able to eat a whole bagel with cream cheese a year after getting the sleeve. A bagel is only a few ounces, so that’s a reasonable volume and weight for a single meal. I think it really underscores the importance of food choices in addition to quantity of food. Even with eating only a few ounces at a time, it’s possible to face weight regain if those ounces are calorie-dense or high in sugars, starches, or fat. Eating a few ounces of ice cream, brownies, French fries, or pizza multiple times a day is way different than eating a few ounces of Protein and vegetables. I would also wonder about eating one meal a day. It seems like it would be hard to get all the nutrients you need in one meal without stretching your sleeve. For example, a large bagel with, say, 2 ounces of cream cheese has only about 15 grams of protein. Add your yogurt, and you’re still at only about 25-30 grams of protein a day. What did your nutritionist or surgeon recommend? Most suggest at least 65 grams a day. Also, as some of the others said, I would worry about the future – is one meal a day sustainable long term? I am definitely a fan of doing whatever works for your individual case even if it’s not what the majority says, but just make sure you think it through and are honest with yourself! Like the others said, you might want to use the internet to find some sources of protein and also some suggestions for healthy post-op Bariatric Eating. Good luck! -
Pre op liquid diet?

I can have Protein shakes and sugar free Jello and pudding to add some flavor, fat free Soups with no chunks, fat free yogurt... Sent from my LG-LS995 using the BariatricPal App -
I just need to vent and so this might not be completely coherent. I know that much of what I am venting about has all been said before, as well, so my apologies, but you guys are the only ones who understand. I was sleeved on March 14. I have been on full fluids since March 16 and won't move to soft food until my one month appointment with the Nurse Practitioner and Dietitian. I am so sick of yogurt, cottage cheese, oatmeal, Gelatin, pudding, and creamed Soup. I am okay with Protein shakes. Tomorrow will mark 4 weeks of this and I have another 11 days to go. It is to the point that I have no desire to eat at all, if I could, I would spend the next 11 days with Protein drinks alone. I won't, but honestly, eating has become a chore, something I dread. I have been following my meal program as I should. I am supposed to get 60-80 protein, 2 litres of Water and have 900-1200 calories. I am within those targets. The scale stopped moving 1.5 weeks after surgery. My surgery weight was 297 lbs and I have been stuck at 286 since March 24. I know that I am still healing and such and I know that I should chuck the scale, but it has been disheartening. I started back on my recumbent bike last Monday, hoping that would jump the metabolism, but no such luck. I know things will start moving along again, I am just feeling particularly frustrated today. Thanks for "listening". Cheers, Roxanne

Not enough calories
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Mystique2015's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Keep in mind that we only metabolize about 20-25 grams of Protein over an hour so if you are adding protein to your yogurt to get 45 grams of protein, unless you are dividing it up and eating it over multiple meals you aren't really getting 45 grams of protein. Aim for multiple meals of no more than 25 grams of protein each, spread out over the day.
