    Puréed Food

I wish I would've asked the same question. Started puree today. Came home and family had potatoes with their dinner so I pureed that with protein powder and Greek yogurt to add more protein. Thinned it out and it was great!! However, no going to be eating to many potatoes in the future!
  2. I just ate almost an entire 5.3 oz container of yogurt 10 days post op, don't think I really got a full feeling from it yet, is this bad? Should I have been able to eat that much this soon? Are there signs I should look for to know I'm full? Guess I'm not feeling the restriction I expected, but maybe it's cuz it's yogurt not solid food? I've also noticed that sipping drinks is getting easier and easier now too, don't feel it sitting in my chest like I did right after surgery last week. So I don't know what signs to look for now.

    No Pre Op Diet

I am also scheduled for 4/28!!! I found out yesterday and screamed with excitement in his office! Lol. I walked out and his staff was smiling and laughing at me. I have to start a liquid diet on 4/15. I have to have 3 shakes a day- he wants me to us the NY Bariatric ones and then I can have an egg or yogurt or cottage cheese (which I hate) between meals so he said to eat low fat ricotta instead. I have a 90 minute class to go to on the 11th where I expect to get more info. No vitamins for me until after surgery.

  6. You have to read the labels on baby food very carefully. Some of it has a lot of carbs. I didn't have a puree phase (just soft food), but it is fairly easy to eat regular, adult soft or puréed food without resorting to baby food. Think: Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, ricotta bake, etc.

    Twin Cities Marathon

I can't stand Gu, truthfully it makes me want to hurl. I use Clif Shot Bloks (which were recommended by my surgeon, who is a runner). On any run over 4 miles, I eat one blok every 2-2.5 miles. They have the consistency of gummy bears and I can either chew them or let them dissolve slowly in my mouth (followed up with water/gatorade in both instances, which helps to break them down). I really don't vary my eating on long run days. I start my morning with overnight oats, including a half container of greek yogurt, a tablespoon of Peanut Butter, and a 1/3 cup of milk. The oats give me some sustained energy. My surgeon recommended a bonk bar or Quest bar for mid run energy, but they land in my stomach like lead, so I carry a single serving of Teddy Grahams (while I stay away from most processed foods, when discussing training with my NUT and surgeon, they both agreed it was a good option. They have some Protein and are mostly carbs that converts easily into energy, mid run). I also carry a pack of Justin's nut butters. They're easy to get open and suck down on the run. Finally, the week of a long run (actually, not when I'm doing training runs, but only for the race itself) I tend to increase carbs. I usually keep my carbs between 40-50g a day, on a race week, I double that (closer to race day) by eating extra servings of oats, bananas, nut butters, etc. When I stick to that plan, it works for me. I will say, that I've never run a marathon (but have run a handful of 1/2s) so maybe someone with more distance experience can give you a clearer picture. Good luck!

    Fatigue 6 weeks post op

That's definitely not enough calories! No wonder you are tired. I made sure I was up over 800 a day before I started working out. I could only eat about 3 oz. of food at a time too. The key is to eat at least 5-6 times a day. For me, once I was cleared for solid foods, my day looked like this: Breakfast: Protein Bar/Shake Morning Snack: String cheese Lunch: 2-3 oz. of meat Afternoon Snack: Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt (I would add a little granola if this was a cardio day) Dinner: 2-3 oz. of meat Evening Snack: Protein Bar/Shake I always work out after work, so my afternoon snack was my "pre-workout" snack. Which means I would like to throw a few carbs in there to help fuel my workouts. It was usually a little granola or Kashi Cereal mixed into my yogurt.
  9. When ever I would read crazy posts about what people were eating right after surgery I thought it must be trolls. Surely their surgeon would send them with some specific diet instructions. Today at my 1 week post op nutrition class, one guy (who had the same surgeon as me so I know he got a million handouts and talks about what and when to eat) told everyone what he had been eating (keep in mind should have been Clear liquids only), the NUT's jaw dropped. In fact she went and called the surgeon to come over and meet him before class was out. They might be real people...with decent surgeons... mind blown. I am slow to move to full/semi liquid stage that I could have started a few days ago as my sleeve is still tempermental. Tomorrow I will start 1/2 ounce of Greek yogurt... maybe. 10. I don't think I could handle an ounce though. I put a teaspoon in my yogurt and let it sit for a few minutes, really good that way. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
  11. I was on purees and soft Proteins (yogurt, scrambled eggs, etc) along with liquids in the hospital and on out. The surgeon's practice had been doing sleeves for about twenty years at that time, so I wasn't going to argue with their experience on what a sleeved stomach could handle. A cup of Water per hour is not unreasonable (our standard was an ounce per five minutes though that wasn't a mandatory thing) but that can vary some with the amount of inflammation in the stomach that one has post-op. I can understand their requirement that you be able to handle a cup an hour as dehydration is not uncommon and is probably the most common reason for readmission to the hospital.

    Post op diet

They'll give you a list of suggested liquids at nut classes. Everyone differs. After clear, expect Protein shakes, soups with no chunks, milk, maybe yogurt, all the clear liquids still ok. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

    Isopure drinks

I'll have to look into that. I've spent so much money on protein it's not even funny. Today i can have yogurt and pudding so I am going to try to add some Protein powder to the yogurt and see how that goes.

    Post op diet

This is my surgeon's pre-op allowances. Your surgeon might be different (ex. a lot don't allow the yogurt). If your surgeon recommends FULL liquid diet (65-75 grams of Protein per day): 14 Days Pre Operative - All the above Clear liquids - Protein Liquid supplements - Approximately 1000 calories per day - Skim, 1% or Soy Milk mixed with whey or soy protein powders (limited to 20 gm protein/serving) - Fat Free Cream Soups - Fat Free, Plain Yogurts (not Greek--too thick) Good luck to you!

    7- day post op

I have Clear liquids for 10 days post op except I could do 1 regular Protein shake. Although I tried one on day 3, 5, 7. It wasn't until day 7 that I could handle them, the first two tries were just painful, one sip and dump. Thursday (11 days post op starts full liquids and some pre-selected foods (1oz yogurt, cottage cheese, pudding, or watery refried Beans - all with added protein powder). 3/24 Sleeve buddy wanted

Hey Meimei - I bought the GNC brand of whey Protein and mix it with my Greek yogurt (banana cream protein and vanilla yogurt) and it gives me 34g of protein right off the bat - 2.5 oz of tuna is 16g and cottage cheese is 12g for a half a cup - that's over 60g already - I usually have a glass of milk after my workout which gives me 8-10 more grams. As far as Water - I just keep my water bottle in my hand while I'm walking around the classroom so I'm constantly sipping and getting it in - it has been easier the last couple days. I'll admit I have been tired after school this week but I just don't let myself sit down until my workout is done - I was cleared for full exercise today yay!!! I did 30 min on the elliptical. Keep working at it you'll get there- everything hurts a little less each day - I would say I'm 95% back to feeling normal. Pm me if you want to buddy up :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. For RNY peeps, is there a brand that I can use that has the least sugar? I like the taste of Dannon light & fit Greek, but I noted even it has 8 grams of sugar. Mind you I can only eat 1/2 at a time so I'm getting 6 protein 4 sugar in each serving but wondering if anyone has a favorite that's less sugar still high in protein???

    Pouch Test?

There is a fad diet floating around the internet ("I read it on the internet, so it must be true!") that goes by names such as the "3 day (or 5 day) pouch test" that some use to try to "reset" their eating habits. It usually involves going back to a liquid diet and working back up to yogurt and cottage cheese. It doesn't test anything (particularly a pouch, as with the VSG, we don't have one,) and there are any number of ways people can cut back on their calories again, or reset their cravings after a binge of no-no's. If one actually wants to check the capacity of their sleeved stomach, one needs to eat something that will close the pyloric valve at the base of the stomach - typically a piece of chicken or steak - and not a liquid or sliderish glop that flows through with minimal restriction as is done with these "pouch test" diets.
  21. I wholeheartedly agree with the stirring recommendation - makes it smoother in my opinion. The non-fat greek yogurt can be a little "grainy" in texture in my opinion but I found that stirring it a LOT helped tremendously with that. Also, if you aren't opposed to artificial sweetener, try flavoring it with sugar-free torani syrups.
  22. It is crazy how each Dr is different. Soft foods for me is the longest of the stages lasting 4 weeks, but the other stages were anywhere from 2 to 5 days. Even in the full liquids, I was allowed pudding, yogurt and creamed soups. I'm definitely one of the lucky ones cause I don't see how some handled such limitations.
