    Kaiser Wls Patients

I did sleeve with Kaiser. No it will not un qualify you. I asked the same question. Had to lose 20lbs. pre surgery. Lost 26lbs. They go by original weight. Good luck. I just hit my goal of 175 from 297. I love my sleeve and have had NO problems. I don't even notice I had surgery except for the amount of food I can eat is so little. Just what I needed. I love the fact that sleeve lets you eat anything you want. The portions was my problem and now it is solved. Bypass surgery restricts you from Dairy and sugers . Not to mention ALL the problems they seem to have after surgery. I think Sleeve is the BEST option out there, Best of luck to you and your new Life/figure/. LOL!
  2. Hello everyone. This is my first time posting, but I have been lurking around and I want to say to everyone that has the sleeve congratulations, because you are an inspiration. I have been wanting the wls ever since 2008 and have been procrastinatiing and thinking I can do it on my own, well I CAN"T LOL. I went to my first orientation at Richmond Kaiser in 08 wanting to get the band, but after reading that it is a slow weightloss and that some has issues I changed my mind. My husband does not want me to get it because he claim he love me the way I am, but also tells me what I can do to fix myself up so that I will not have surgery (yeah right). I know what I want and I know that I have treid every diet there is and I failed at it. I am at work right now on my break, I drive a school bus so I have a split shift which leaves me nothing but time on my hands. I am getting depressed because all I can think about is eating and what I want to eat. I pack a lunch everyday and I hve tried the 1200 cal meal plan, but when it close to the middle of the month I run out of food and money for what I need. I want this so bad but I can't get fattening off my mind. I do not want to fail with having the sleeve, I want to finally succeed and get healthy for MYSELF. I just reinstated into the program and the nutritionist told me that I have to have two weight checks then call her to have a review orientaion. I have already seen the psychologist, my last weight in 2009 was 289 and November 2010 was 267. I feel as if I have gained since my last weigh in and am scared to have second weight check in December. I am sorry for ranting and raving, but I just had vent.

    Body Temperature

I finally got my husband to adjust our thermostat to 78 because I was simply freezing at 75 (we live in south Louisiana, where it's HOT and humid all the time)---even now I have to keep a fleece jacket on the couch because I get chilly at night. I also noticed that I'm wearing sometimes 3 layers to work, whereas before surgery, I would always look for the coolest, least insulating outfit available. I think it's the loss of one's insulating layer and also the fact that your metabolism is running at a different speed. Someone else on the forum mentioned that her feelings of being cold correlated with weight loss; after reading that, I kept a lookout, and sure enough, when I seem colder than usual, that does seem to be the time that I'm losing more quickly. Don't know how or why that is, but I like it. When I feel chilly, I Celebrate and grab a sweater.
  4. This has been a long 6 months! I started out doing so good and making changes slow and for the better! I have also gained through out the 6 months though[emoji17] I have my last dietician apt next week and I'm feeling to a point where I can't do this anymore... I feel at a point where my minds getting strayed away. I also am a smoker and not sure when to quit I have it in the back of my mind but I'm also feeling like my insurance will deny me cause I've gained.... I've wanted this surgery so bad for my health and for my children. I love food and my treats and I worry I'll never be able to have them again [emoji17] uhhh sorry just needed to vent! Anyone else feel this way so close to end
  5. OHHH MYYYYY GOODNESSSSSS!!!!! I called BCBS Anthem tonight to see how the resubmit of weight went last Friday, IM APPROVED!!!!! Ahhhhhhh!!!!! It says my dos is Jan 14!! But I haven't set a date with the dr yet!! Hmmm!!!! Geez, this is crazy and fast an I'm so excited! Hope to hear from surgical center tomorrow!!
  6. I was banded on 11/30, only a day later than you, and lost 10 lbs. pre-op and 20 post. I have been stuck at the same weight for about 6 weeks, have only had one fill so I am hoping with my next one I will get more restriction. I am frustrated as well but I think that's my own fault. I really haven't been exercising with any regularity and not sticking to the plan, so I am resolving to start over and get with the program.
  7. I had told my sister (who is skinny) that I wanted to have surgery. Since I didn't get approve by the insurance co. I m going to mexico. I had made the decision not tell my family. She asked me today the status of my surgery, I told her it was on hold for right now.she did a dance of joy!!!! And said good. She said I m losing weight and should continue losing weight. I told her losing the weight is not the problem its maintaining. I m glad I didn't tell her my decision. She'll find out after the fact.
  8. I have three tips that worked like a champ for me.: 1. Weigh every day at the same time (like when you first get up) and log it online somewhere (I use FitDay...there are lots of programs). This is not so much to watch the weight FALL off, but to watch how what you eat correlates with the scales....you get a feel for what you body can work with. 2. Log every single food you put in your mouth on a program like FitDay or SparkPeople. You will become hypersensitive to what you put in your mouth. You will start thinking in terms of calories. This is what Weight Watchers has touted for YEARS and I always thought was "bull hockey". I am now a firm convert!!! If I overdo it for breakfast and lunch, I can know that I need to cut back for dinner, or vice versa, if I know I am going out to dinner in the evening, I will keep my intake low in the morning and afternoon. I try to keep intake to 800-1100 calories a day. 3. Set easily attainable "mini-goals".....My first was to hit 210. Then 205, then to get to Onederland...my mini-goals were 2-3 pounds each and I gave myself an adequate time to reach them. Right now my goal is to get into the 150's....I've been vacilllating from 160-163 since early December, because I have been "bad" during the holidays, but I am getting back into the game. Always set a goal you KNOW you can reach. As you reach them you will get greedy for more goals and successes. Sometimes a success can be going from 163.6 to 162.8. That's the beauty of a scale with 10th of a pounds on them.

    New Beginnings...

Hi Queenbee: I was banded on the 27 of August, I will definately check those out hopefully they taste good Doing well lost 20 so far since I last saw the doc, on my scale anyway. WE just bought a new scale that tells you all kinds of things, how much Water is in your body, weight, BMI, some other stuff pretty cool. (Bed Bath and Beyond about $90.00, well worth it) keep up the good work and keep in touch with your progress. Take Care, Andrea :cool2:

Thank you all very much for the quick replies and the advice! God, I hope I don't have to crush them but if I do, the jello and yogurt is a good idea. Ellie, congrats on your surgery and good luck on your weight loss!! I can't wait to get mine done next month. Jack

    Cheat

I wouldn't. Making good decisions about food and drink is central to this journey. Don't start out making a decision that goes against the directions of your doctor. He/she has asked you to do this pre-op liquid diet for a reason. It isn't about weight loss. Good luck!

    What Did I Do?

Thank you. I am trying to stay positive. Would live to lose weight been stuck for two weeks. Started low BMi but still. Hope adding more calories helps
  13. You're going to a Center of Excellence so you shouldn't have any problems at all with your surgery, in fact, being self pay, you should be able to go home the same day (bring a driver), and be back to work in 3-4 days. I don't see why anyone needs to know anything you don't really want them to know. This is strictly your affair and if you need to say anything, say your health requires you to loose a little weight, and that's what you're doing. Don't forget your slippers and PJs, I hope you do well.

    feelings

Even after losing 98 pounds... I still sometimes look in the mirror and think I"m still that fat girl that weight 256 pounds 10 months ago... it's all part of the process and our minds catching up with our bodies. I agree with "indecision".... just let the feelings happen, it's all part of the process and just keep in mind this is a journey.

    Is my NUT nuts?

At 3months out I had no food restrictions other than what was sensible for losing massive weight. I eat berries daily. Some of what he said makes sense, most of it really doesn't to me either. Truth is a good NUT is rare..I am so lucky I had a great one my first 10months or so. After she left I only visited her replacement once.... When I got to goal, I celebrated over email with the one that left. Do you have a choice to see someone else? Just be thankful you didn't get the one that made you play with plastic food...yes....preop that happened to me....so it could be worse.
  16. Hey guys out there how many calories is the best range for steady weight loss. I ve seen it posted on the nutrition section but mostly women were posting their calorie counts but I believe men eat a different amount of calories. I just feel I'm just not eating the right amt of calories.
  17. i am also aussie was done on 24 april. so thats nearly five weeks ago. i have no idea how much weight ive lost as i dont have scales. I know i have lost two dress sizes though .. thats so cool! but looking forward to seeing the surgeon again on friday to get weighed see how Im going.. keep in touch. this site is so good! full of useful information. feeling good now but had a bit of pain for a week/ ten days. im ionto solid foods now and am starting to get hungry! maybe thats time for the first fill? I dont know how that works. not sure that i got enough information about that part of it before the surgery. but I guess I will find out.. did your drs tell you of any local support groups. this is the only website ive found? but i wouldnt mind a local group....
  18. @@haliib Most insurance plans will cover surgery with a BMI over 40 (even if no comorbidities). The requirements of each plan can be different - so that will be specific to your plan (if you need a supervised weight loss program). I would call your insurance and get coverage details and find a surgeon who is part of a Center of Excellence. You often have to attend an informational seminar at the surgeon's office before scheduling an appointment. I think it's great you're getting control of your obesity now - before you have comorbidities to deal with! Good luck!

Your comment did not offfend me, Rosaline. But it does prove that this is one of those topics that causes people to rush to judgement ...she's too thin, why did they wait so long, why are they not having weight loss surgery. My 50lbs weighs the same as anyone's elses. Would you tell someone to stop losing weight when they were still 50lbs overweight after losing 250lbs or even 150lbs? It's all relative. Actually, on the health side it's similar (but not as drastic) to having elective mastectomies if you have all the breast cancer markers and you've done as much as you can non-surgically. On the cosmetic side it's certainly not as drastic as a face lift, tummy tuck, arm lift, full body liposuction, or any number of surgeries folks opt for everyday after significant weight loss. My goal is to collect as much helpful information as I can from those of you who are going through this and combine it with the advice of my doctors to make informed decisions during the process. Hopefully, I will avoid feeling too shamed along the way. Anyway, I do appreciate the information and encouragement regarding my original question. Thanks everyone.

Who is your dr.? I was sleeved at Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas on July 6th. I am 56 years old and I am a self pay patient. At the start of this adventure I only needed to lose about 65-70 lbs to get to my goal weight. I wanted the surgery for 2 reasons: 1) vanity (yes, I admit it:) & 2) as a preventative measure so I wouldn't get some of the health issues that go along with being overweight. I've used botox for about 10 years and I anticipate continuing to use it. Without a doubt, I don't have the same elasticity in my skin as I did 10-15 years ago - so I am just taking this one day at a time - and when/if the day comes that my ta-tas no longer fill my bra, I'll be first in line to get a boob job:). I don't think I will have enough excess skin to consider surgery elsewhere - but I'll make that decision, too, if the day comes. Your VSG journey will take you down different roads: The first 2-3 weeks, you will be focused on healing your body from the surgery. Then you'll be focused on taking your Vitamins and trying to eat enough to keep your energy level up. Serious thoughts of cosmetic surgery - at least for me - are still about 45 lbs away:) Good luck on your journey!

    Hopeless One

It IS possible to defeat the sleeve, just like any other weight loss surgery. But, you're going to classes at Kaiser? I'm assuming yes. They will help you work on your food issues and, if they don't, then I recommend you find a counsellor who will help you work on them. The surgeon sleeves our stomachs, not our heads, so the head work has to be done by us, either before surgery, or afterwards. Good luck!!
  22. I'm hoping to be sleeved in July I will be done with everything by then, right now my nutritionist has me on a diet to see if I can loose weight before surgery. I just seen her Thursday and in 2 weeks I have lost 8lbs very proud of myself now here is where the problem is today I went a little nuts I ate half a bag of Peanut Butter cups and 2 slices of pizza I feel so bad that I did this to myself. Now I'm wondering if after the surgery will I still have the willpower to stay on my diet. Has anyone else done this and feel the way I do? thanks

    Nectar grab n' go

    I am SO jealous!!!! I've spent a fortune on sonic ice HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 217.2
  24. I'm only four days in to two weeks of full liquids prior to June 8 sleeve date and met with surgeon Thursday for prevealuation, approvals, anesthesiologist etc., and I already lost five pounds! Everything's a go and for those of you who are struggling with 'time' waiting, uncertainty, self doubt...hang in there. I've been second guessing myself for months and now it's ten days away. Sure it's hard giving up food emotionally but to gain my health, comfort, confidence and energy will be worth it! I'm so used to not losing weight in the past (or gaining) I was elated to see a few pounds gone in a couple days. Commit, dedicate and be confident. It IS possible ????
  25. All I know is that it does because it is nothing but protien. I think it keep us from losing muscle mass as we take in less food. It will help us the same as it helps the body builder build muscle mass. As we loose weight we all need to improve our muscle mass by exercising. Muscle use burns fat and so we loose our weight. Hope this explanation helps. If we don't get enough protien we will burn muscle mass instead of fat. Banded 7/21/07 First fill tomorrow
