The second I was allowed caffeine at 3 months post op, I went right back to my coffee! I don't know if you will be allowed diet soda in the future but you may not even like it if you are. I lived for sparkling water before and now if I try to drink it, it causes this uncomfortable pressure feeling in my stomach. I don't like it anymore! I make a smoothie every morning with coffee, almond milk, and protein powder. I didn't even know Fairlife had a coffee protein shake. It's so hard to find around here. I feel like I've been robbed! So glad i found this group! I am 4 weeks post op today. I am down 18 pounds. Didn't lose anything for about a week and a half but seems to be moving again! I am on soft foods now and going camping this weekend before I start back to work Monday! Any tips for meal prepping for work? I will have a little cooler with me and lots of water. Pre op diet- messing up/cheating
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Bridge1967's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
THIS I don't recommend lol Not everyone could get away with it, so it's best not to assume you can. Stick to the diet as best you can (I had 2 weeks all liquid pre op diet, so I feel your pain) and if you need to cheat, do it the way @liveaboard15 did, with healthy choices. -
Surgery postponed
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to gina923's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh man, I'm so sorry. What kind of pre op diet were you on? I was on a 2 week all liquid diet. It was BRUTAL, but I wanted to make sure the surgery happened. Is your doctor willing to try again? -
I really hate stalls!!!!!
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The scale hasn't moved in about 8 days. I haven't gained this time, which I'm very happy about, but I haven't lost either. I fluctuate between the same 2 pounds (between 343 - 341). I have PCOS, and I was told that will make it harder and take longer to actually lose the weight and keep it off. But it's REALLY frustrating and annoying. It's harder to lose the weight now than it was when I was just doing keto. I read that we're not supposed to do keto after bariatric surgery, but MAN it's tempting!!! I know this will pass, I know this is normal, but I HATE that it's normal. I'm 2 1/2 months out from surgery, so I'm not surprised I'm getting hit again. But UGH!!!!! -
My sister who got the sleeve 2 years ago gave me this advice and it's rang true for me: every day you'll be able to drink a little more water than the next. Dont worry about the 64 oz just yet, it's impossible. They day I came home I couldnt drink 20oz even, I just did enough to stay hydrated. Today is day 10 post for me and I only reached the goal yesterday. At my week post op visit, they said I should be around 50oz right now. Sow but steady!

I’m definitely not doing cold yet. It’s been either warm or room temp. All hits my stomach the same. I’m pretty miserable. I still have some of the gas in me that is bothering my chest and back, so I’ve taken Gas-X and been up moving around. Today is Day 3 Post Op.

I have been wanting to create a topic on my weight loss journey after having reached BMI of under 30 and not being obese anymore but thought to wait it out so I can cross off other aspects from the checklist. This morning I weighted - 133.2 Lbs. Height is 4' 10.2" (148cm). BMI 27.6. Heightest weight was 234 lbs, of which I lost 15lbs pre-Op and another 10 lbs during the pre-Op diet. I was at 210 lbs on the day of the surgery. So officially I have lost 100+ lbs of my highest weight ever 🥳 This is the lowest I have ever been ever since I remember. Last lowest I remember was 137lbs, more than a decade ago, post Dr. Bernstein's weight loss program. But that weight loss program kick started the vicious cycle of yo yo dieting and wrecked metabolism, which I hopefully isn't the case anymore with much more controlled healthy eating habits. I just wanted to thank so many of the folks out here who have been extremely supportive not only on the open forum but also in DMs. During the ever so confusing beginning months, this forum came to help time and again. If not for this one, I wouldn't have known about the 3 weeks stalls. Clinic never covered this aspect of the weight loss and I definitely would have freaked if not for the knowledge I consumed out here. So thank you everyone for making this community friendly, supportive and helpful. I still have a bit more to go to achieve my goal and get under 25 and hopefully maintain around 22 or 23ish of BMI, but I'll cross the bridge when and if happens. For now, just enjoying the joy of my current physical and mental state of mind. This surgery truly has blown a new life within after wanting to give up on it time and again in the past. Truly grateful for taking in the dive. 🥰

November Surgery Buddies!!!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So the last 2 weeks or so, I was extremely busy and didn't have enough time for cooking and eating, more sedentary except for my daily 45mins of walk. I kinda was eating around 500 to 700 calories (making sure I get more than 60g of protein) AND weight still came off 🤷🏻♀️ So @Spinozawas saying, stalls are really not proportional to how much you eat. I guess it's all about how your body processes the input to lose the weight. -
I had the sleeve as well. The first couple weeks were brutal. I was able to drink cold drinks without issue tho. and yes i understand with the protein shakes. Warm is gross on those. You could also try other protein drinks. They sell like gatorade that has protein in it and other water type drinks that have protein.

I had the sleeve done on Wednesday. Last year I had the band removed. So Dr had to make some repairs plus do the sleeve. Dr said to only drink stuff room temperature or warm for the first week since the cold makes everything tighten up and get restricted. So I’m drinking everything room temp, but can’t drink the protein drinks warm at al. So I’ll have to drink those on the cooler side.

I consider myself very lucky. The first 2 days were tough. Able to do 64 oz of liquid and 3 shakes. I don't sleep !lot. I only sleep about 4-5 hours a night, so I have more opportunity to drink.

What surgery did you get? but yes the first week or 2 will be very hard. you had a major surgery. Need time to heal. Everyone has regrets right after surgery. But once you heal up its well worth it. as for the drinks at room temp. It helps. Some need some warm drinks and cold drinks to get thru.

I'm hoping everything went well for you. I know you can persevere through the recovery process. Just take things a day at a time and try your best to be patient. My surgery is less than two weeks away, so I too am starting to feel the beginnings of nervousness.

Looking for friends, just starting my journey!
Muffinman1119 replied to mommaMel302's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to the community. I'm almost done with day 3 of my 16 day pre-op diet. The first day truly is the hardest. Once you get past that it's almost like you're on a mission. It's a small sacrifice as to avoid any issues with the exploration part of your surgery. Best of luck to you on your journey! -

I had RNY. I was in the hospital a little over 24hrs. Liquid is going ok. It’s so hard to meet protein goals! I’m feeling better everyday. The first 3 days were the worst for me. -
The only exercise I have done is a bit of walking, and recently I bought a kayak and I now kayak for around 2 hours once a week when my shifts allow. I dreamt last night of running on the beach does that count as exercise? 😅😅 I had big plans of joining the gym etc but it hasn't happened yet.
-
I am not a fan of the gym. I dislike the whole concept and I've never enjoyed going (even when I was young and in decent shape). I prefer to do something fun that just happens to make my body exercise. Things like hiking and swimming. I even like playing Beat Saber on VR. I do have an exercise bike I got in April that I've used for ten minutes, once. I'm fairly certain riding an actual bike this early on (surgery isn't for a few weeks) and early in my process would be a challenge. So, my question is, what things do you do that are physical activities outside the gym? My #1 fitness goal is (once I'm a little smaller) to rent a kayak, and hopefully buy one next April (my 50th birthday!). I've never been physically active on a regular basis, so I'd love some ideas of things I've never considered before - I can't wait to get moving!

Two days before me! My liquid is only three days - two liquid, one clear liquid (day before surgery). They have me on semi-solids for five days before that and a low-cal/carb diet from the 20-25th. I almost wish it was just liquid - it would make me have to think less. I wish I could fast forward to my date so I wouldn't have to do these next two weeks! But, it will all be worthwhile. Are you in the states? Are you staying in the states or going abroad for surgery? Mine is in Tijuana.

Slow weight loss after VSG to RNY Revision - looking for others experiences
catwoman7 replied to shriner37's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
agree with the others. Slower weight loss seems to be the norm with revisions. On top of that, you're getting close to a normal BMI. The closer you get, the harder it is to take weight off. You may just be in a long stall (they do seem to become more frequent and last longer the closer you get to a normal BMI), but if you want to keep going, you can always drop your calories. However, if your body is happiest at your current 179 lbs and doesn't want to go lower, it'll be a constant struggle to keep it lower than that (dealing with that myself....). It can be done - but it will be a struggle. I've kind of thrown in the towel at this point. My weight isn't as low as I'd like but it's acceptable. But still, there are days... -

They do labs at least 2 weeks before surgery. Not exactly sure what they check for.

Cucumbers & Tomatoes
Helen Smith replied to CoolBreeze's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 weeks out. Also craving. Just bought cucumbers & tomatoes before checking with my Nutritionist. Even before surgery, I always took off the the outer skin of the cucumber to make cucumber salad. Will check with Nutritionist today. May have to give them away. -
I’m 3 weeks out from VSG. I’m currently a eating modified regular diet. My plan’s guidance is to stay between 600-800 calories a day. When I eat I definitely fill up quickly and feel restriction which I’m pleased with but I find that I’m hungry again less than an hour later. I’m eating protein, limiting carbs, drinking water, and doing physical activity through walking or recumbent bike. I’m feeling frustrated because I feel like I’m struggling with hunger a lot more than I should. I’m already getting close to maxing out that calorie range but I’m still hungry. I know it’s not head hunger because I have physical hunger symptoms like growling/rumbling stomach. Anyone else experience this and have any thoughts/advice?
