Let's talk about body dysmorphia
Matt Z replied to Lochnessamber's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is so real. On both ends. When I was big, I really didn't have an understanding of HOW big. 370 at 5 foot 9 is big. Now that I'm down to 185... I don't feel as small as I am. I went from a 52-54 pant to a 34. I went from 5xl shirts to a L. I look at my pants and stuff now and I'm like... PFFT those are too small. Yet, they fit just right. I've been told by a coworker that I give myself more room than I need to, like we were removing a monitor from a wall mount, there is a table in front it it with equipment, I leaned over the table and equipment to get to the mount, I was told that I was standing like 6 inches away from the table. I thought I was right on it. I had a time where I was in the gym, doing my own thing, headphones in etc. I saw someone walking towards me in the mirrors so I stepped to the side to avoid them.... it was me in the mirror I saw. It took me a few moments to fully realize what just happened. I saw someone that I did not recognize and I moved to allow them to pass... but that person that I didn't know. Was me. I'm told it gets better with time. My surgery was March 27th of 2018, I've been in the 180's since March 27th of 2019. So, yes it seems it's common. It's quite weird to experience. -
I got my date today, FINALLY! I will have my surgery on May 23, 2019 and I am ELATED! Finally, I know for certain. Anyone else May 23 twins?? Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

May Day #9: 10 pushups...done (half-heartedly)...i think i have a cold and feeling blah. I know my pushups were bad form, but still wanted to do them, do i did. Meditate: not really into meditation, except for like 2-3 minutes after yoga classes (which btw, i’m hopIng to get to tonight, if i don’t fall asleep) B-side: i was told no caffeine at first, then after my 1 month follow-up, I was given all clear to drink it up. Though I don’t drink much of it anyway. P.S. This morning went to the mall to replace a beloved hoodie because I’m swimming in the one I have been using. And its come to this: ended up buying a Child size Large because the Ladies small was too big. What is happening???

I tried the elliptical machine yesterday, and found that my energy was not enough and once I switched to walking on the treadmill I was able to walk for 40 minutes no problem. I will be doing the treadmill only for another couple of weeks. I also try to get in a lot of water the first part of the day before I switch to pureed food. VSG 29th April 2019.

Since my surgery on April 3rd I lost 22 lbs, SW 242, so less than 10%. I am a bit discouraged as I here much better results... I am eating my protein and vitamins but it’s very hard with the water, I simply forget to drink regularly. I started on solids some days ago and a lot just come back, especially the meat. I try to mix it with purees but still...I also feel low on energy and can hardly do my exercises. After exercising I feel just even more low, no endorphins rush for me. Frustrated and depressed, that sums it up for me

Feeling like this didn’t work....
freidaboat replied to KimB7811's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on February 8, 2019 and for the first 2 to 3 weeks I found myself surprised that I was able to consume and tolerate foods so easily. I was always hungry and was literally going insane. I spent the first week at home literals looking up pictures of food because I couldn't stop thinking about it.I forced myself to maintain my calories between 300 to 400 during that time though. Once I gave it time, I found that I wasn't able to consume as much or as quickly. My biggest thing was learning how to control my hunger with water and protein shakes versus reaching for food all the time. Practice the no eating 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after. The stomach acid is real so don't let that fool you. The first week is hell, the second week sucks, but it does get better. It's so early to be discouraged. Just stick to the restrictions and work the surgery. SW 233 / CW 178 -
Where are my 5ft tall peeps at?
DKG_WLJ replied to The Dora Milaje's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was 187 on surgery day - I had been 192 and then lost a few lbs on the pre-op diet. I'm just about 162 now, so 25 lbs since surgery day. Nowhere near as much or as fast as a lot on here - but I have the PCOS, and my starting BMI was relatively low. I was wearing Size 16 and am now in 12s that are a bit loose - hope to be in Size 10 by the end of the month. (Bear in mind that US sizes are different and you have to add 4 to get the UK equivalent. I'm from the UK, so I'm fluent in both, LOL). At 158 lbs I'll be halfway to goal, and that is the milestone I'm working on right now. How is it all going for you at about a month out?? I’m from the UK as well 😀 So you’re fitting in a US size 10? Is that UK size 14 then? I haven’t had my surgery done yet, but it’s due in under 4 weeks now!! It’s really creeped up on me! -

I’m 5’3” and haven’t set a final goal yet. I weightlift, so that impacts my body comp. I really have no idea what size different weights will be. A size goal is an 8. But honestly? I’d be thrilled at a 10-12. So I’ll just work my plan and see how this goes. -
Considering DS
jasmineinmymind replied to onmyway11's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You said you wanted the ugly right? My mom had the DS and its not pleasant in the bathroom area. She's never been able to overcome extreme gas, pretty gross bathroom habits and IBS like symptoms. It was over 10 years ago and never improved. -
I completely understand. I was sleeved 1/14/19. I started losing my hair around month 3. I am hoping, it will slow down soon. Before I lose it all. I am taking biotin, also started on collagen tablets. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Surgery day is approaching
gabybab replied to gloria-j's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my surgery at 53 ten weeks ago and just turned 54. It was not the easiest recovery for me and I had minor bumps in the road, but I wouldn't change my decision to have surgery. I was very scared, even though I have had over 10 surgeries. But, trust your Dr and do what they say and I bet you will do great and come away very happy! I had a choice. Die on the path I was on or chose to do this to help prolong my life. Congrats & best wishes! -

gastric sleeve VSG is coming up real soon!
Ruby Hernandez posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Everyone! My name is Ruby Hernandez. I am 18 years old and my VSG surgery is on May 13, 2019. It’s coming up so soon! I am becoming really frusturated with my 2-Week Pre-Op Liquid Diet. Tomorrow is Day 7 and I have already lost 9 lbs. I have not cheated at all throughout this whole diet and I would like to keep it that way. Any tips on how to avoid yourself from cheating? Thanks! 💜- 10 replies

Yes, I had the same problem for the first 10 days or so. Tmi, but was dark orange. I think it's pretty normal and should subside. Good luck!

I still feel quite weak and tired when I do much. I think this is largely because I'm still on liquids only. My surgeon advised that exercise should be limited to walking for six weeks rather than anything more high impact. VSG 27th April 2019

I love clothes shopping now. It’s been a long time since I fit in every piece of clothing I bring into the fitting room. It’s no longer about what I can get on, but simply what I like! At a size 10/12, (from a 22/24) I can shop at pretty much any clothing store I want. -
Finding the courage to get gastric sleeve done in Mexico with a BMI of 33
ypease replied to newlifeat41's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Have you worked with a Nutritionist re your diet? I'm scheduled for a Sleeve on 10/1/19. I, too have tried everything without success. However, I have to admit, my first 3 visits with a Nutritionist was eye opening. I'm Vegan and while you might think that veganism is a very healthy "plant based" option, I was surprised at just how wrong you can go eating vegan! I now think differently about my food choices. Still eat vegan, just some major adjustments to my shopping list in regards to my selections. Yes, I still see her even though we are at odds re my upcoming surgery. I feel I am really ready for my surgery now. I have lost some weight, however, I have other issues at play that tend to make weight loss/gain difficult. Good luck on your quest. -

Hey there, I am 25 and I can relate to how you are feeling. I have always struggled with my weight, except it is out of control now. Two months ago when I went to my doctor, I weighed 442 lbs- the heaviest I have ever been. I am 5'6", now at 424 lbs, with a bmi of 68. I honestly wish I would have followed through with WLS sooner. I talked to my doctor about bariatric surgery and have since been researching different places to get it done. I have settled on REX Bariatrics (I live in NC). I have gone to a seminar, orientation, and nutrition meeting. I have my first meeting with my surgeon on 6/10/19. I am doing the research to make an informed decision. I have high blood pressure, I'm asthmatic, and I am prediabetic. Having this surgery can change all of that for me. I know what got me to this point. I became depressed and ate my emotions. Now that I have been through and continue therapy, I am in a much better place emotionally, but I'm stuck with this unhealthy body from the depressed behavior. The frustrated side of me wishes family could understand that I am doing this to better my health, and that it is not something I decided to do on a whim. Like many of us here, we have tried it all. We've tried the diets and different diet pills. We've tried eating less and working out more, and for some reason, it didn't work. Unlike most family members, I have more than 20 lbs to shed- more like 250 lbs to go. I think it is really hard for them to understand because they haven't been in our position. It's hard to support something you don't understand. Gently remind them you are doing this for your health and that having support will help you. I know it's important to feel their acceptance, but at the end of the day you are an adult and can make your own decisions. You are making informed decisions and have put in the research and hard work to get to where you are. Try to shake off negative comments because it doesn't change what you are doing. You can do this! I wish you the best of luck in your journey!!
