    normal?

I didn't worry about how much Water or food I was taking in during the 1st and 2nd week. My sleeve was still swollen and there wasn't much room. I was eating about 1/2 popsicle and whatever water I could take in per day, the 1st week. On the 2nd week, I was eating about 1/2 can of Cream of Mushroom Soup per day and whatever water I could take in. It wasn't till about week 4 that I was able to get in the recommended daily Protein and water. Keep pimpin that sleeve!

    Weight issues

Good morning..so I am 17 pre opp..and I haven't lost weight ..I fluctuate between 13 to 16 pounds loss..I have not gone to restroom in about close to 1 week, but I feel no discomfort..is this normal? Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I had the same discomfort when swallowing in the beginning. It was a feeling of pain/pressure right between my breasts and then it would be relieved after the liquid had time to go down more. It kind of scared me, because I was afraid it would always be like that, but my discomfort cleared up after several weeks. My doctor said it was normal and that as the swelling went down, I would feel better. He was right. For me, it took about a month before I started feeling pretty comfortable when I drank/ate.
  5. I was so thirsty sometimes, it was almost unbearable! Popsicles were awesome!! I also had the feeling that liquids were getting stuck halfway down. It went away fairly quickly. It is so nice now to be able to take real drinks! I did alot of Jello, sf pudding, premade shakes in the beginning also. It was probably a week or two before I did a real banana but that was mainly because we eat them on the green side rather than overly ripe. Not sure if you meant actual bananas or banana flavored popsicles, so responded to both : ) I also liked cottage cheese and mashed potatoes. You are doing much better than I did with liquids. I had a hard time getting 64 oz down the first couple of weeks. Congrats on your surgery! Hope the rest of your recovery goes smoothly!
  6. Wow, when I said on Friday that it's a day by day thing, it truly is! So, lunch didn't go as well as I had hoped. I had a 10 ounce lunch, still hungry. Had a cheese stick--still hungry. Had a few mini wheats before forcing myself to STOP. I mean I was so hungry I couldn't stop! Now I know 13-14 ounces is WAY outrageous for any bandster meal, but how could my doc see restriction if I am still capable of eating this way? True, this is the first day I am like this and it could very well be that I need to just throw a snack in between my Breakfast and lunch to keep the hunger at bay (trying to do breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack), but can someone tell me how I can go from being so tight in the morning that I can't even eat breakfast until 11:30 and I just hoovered all of a 13-14 oz lunch??? Yes, all healthy food, but the quantity of it scares me as I am sooo paranoid about stretching my pouch. Could I need another fill already? It will only be 2 weeks on Thursday!
  7. Hi I had my op 3 weeks ago. I lost 5kg in my pre op so was over the moon and in the first week of the op lost another 6kg, but for the last 10 days the weight has fluctuated up and down by .5kg. I am following everything. Is this normal? Am i expecting too much? It feels a bit disheartening
  8. Thanks everyone! Glad to know I am not the only one. I am going to try and just weigh once a week so the scale doesn't drive me so crazy. I know I am still recovering...just want to make sure I have some good results before seeing my Dr. I was disappointed that I wasn't seeing her until 7 weeks after, but now I am glad. I decided to start working out on my elliptical while my son naps. Going to make myself a chart today to keep track of my workouts and weight loss to keep me motivated to make the right choices.
  9. Try upping the calories a bit! I lost 14lbs 3 days before surgery, then 7lbs the next week, then only 3lbs the next week and was frustrated. Sometimes our bodies can go into "starvation/shock" mode and hold on to everything thinking it is never getting more calories again or for a while. I talked to my nutritionist and she said to try upping my calories a bit to 1000-1400 a day and it has worked wonders! I have been dropping more weight since... Also, it is super normal to feel hungrier now that the post surgery feeling is going away. I am personally struggling with that now because I was supposed to have my first fill last week but due to a incision infection it has been put off until this thursday. Stay strong lady! Also, try to only weight yourself on one day a week, in the morning, naked. I used to get on the scale every other day and I made myself crazy! Our weight fluctuates daily depending on if we have gone to the bathroom or drank alot of water or where we are in our cycles etc... If you stick to one day a week you won't stress out as much! Good luck and keep up the good work... be strong lady!
  10. :wub:I am 18 days postop. I am so grateful for the surgery and also the removal of a hematoma that was a complication from a previous surgery ( the hematome, about the size of a baseball) I have lost 12.5 pounds since the day before surgery. I am eating about 1100 to 1400 calories. This may sound like alot to some but I know if I eat less than that my body thinks it is starving and holds on to the weight. I excercised to "Zumba" today for a full 20 minutes. It is a totally fun latin dance excercise dvd. I felt I hit a mini goal. I am hopeful for 1.5 to 2 lbs a week on average. If I loose 6 lbs a month I will be at my goal by my band aniversary date. My first goal will be 170 and my second goal will be 140. I don't want to loose too quickly. I have seen people loose too quickly and they look horrible and unhealthy. Eating a balance of fats, carbs and protiens will keep my hair and skin healthy. Being over 50 that is so important to not let the weightloss age me anymore than I already am. My restriction is very comfortable right now. I am about 3 cc's and I go for a fill in 1 week. I am not sure I want too much of a fill I will need. My attitude is this band is a tool. I will not look at it as a "cure". I am grateful I can sit down with a small meal and not be hungry afterwards. Wow! that is awesome. One of the main things that has helped is not eating until I am physically hungry. I am finding other activities when I have head hunger or deal with the root of the head hunger. That is such an important difference than before. Well that is all for now!:rolleyes2: Best wishes for all on this journey! Lee Anne

    Consultation seems so far away...

It will go by quickly, you'll see! I had to attend a seminar (to choose the right doctor group, I went to two of them), have a consultation, then my insurance company revealed their requirements to me. From there, I started on a 3 month diet. I remember it was 2 weeks from when I called my pcp to when I actually got in to start my diet. It felt like it would be a very long time, but then everything seemed to move very quickly. Best of luck to you and your journey!

I'm having a ok week, not great, but better than the last couple of weeks. I hope I can keep this going, I really want to lose 30 lbs before we go to Hawaii this fall. I don't think this is an unreasonable goal. I just have to be on my toes and stick with it. I really have to excersise more. I wish I could be one of those people who only eat 600 cal a day. I just don't know how they do it. I have a hard time staying a 1200 cal a day. I feel good if I stay around 1500 cal a day. Oh well I know I can't give up on this, that I have to make it work some how. I have to learn how to resist all the tempatation that out there. I have learned that I can't have Pringles in the house or cookies or most sweets. I need to learn to let some things go and keep other things. I tend to worry to much about all things and I really do want to control all things. So you would think I could control my eating, but I don't. Its the one thing that I can count on to be good. Most of the time its is good, but there is other times I feel like its not a good as I thought it would be. Just wish I would learn to think of food as not as good as I think it is. I must repeat this thought to myself at all times. I can do this. Its not that Hard. Food is not that good. I want to feel better. I want to have a life outside of this house. I will not be embrassed at the sight of my own body. I will not feel as if my husband is embrassed at my size. I will not feel as if my family is embrassed at my size. I will do this. I'm smart enough to figure this out. I can do this. I can do this,
  14. I had my RNY on April 9th and ended up having my gallbladder removed on June 26th. The gallbladder did not hurt as much as the RNY but the recovery time was about the same. I felt weak and uncomfortable for about 2 weeks after both surgeries. I'm glad that is all behind me and I am on my way to feeling 110%

    I have a surgery date!

I just got scheduled for October 22nd! They had an opening on Oct 3 that I really wanted, but my friend is going with me as my companion and wasn't available. I start the preop diet in 3 weeks. Until then, I am having a food Farewell Tour and enjoying some favorites for the last time for a long long time. I am also buying some samples of different Protein shakes to see which ones I like. Good luck!
  16. Did anything change in your diet at the same time ? New food types introduced? I think a lot of us are losing during pre & post op weeks at a great rate due to being in calorie deficit as well as in a state of ketosis. Then we go and add pureed stuff that maybe takes us out of ketosis.....depending what it is we add to the diet. Our bodies fuel type changes....things occur.

    Did It Work?

Nice to find someone Australian like myself.. I use a conversation calculator to write in lbs and most ppl on here use lbs instead of kgs.. I find the same my surgeon says to stay on liquids for at least a few weeks shakes etc but I see others advancing to next stage early as 1 week post op... I feel it's best to let the pouch and all heal before rushing to the next stages...

    Did It Work?

This post is common - I have no idea how you can eat a 14 oz steak after this surgery I am lucky if i can eat 4oz. You are at a crossroads, same position most of us hit. You are head hungry not really hungry, sorry seems brutal but once the shock and awe was over you are losing the battle in your head not your stomach. My view is you need a nutritionist or a deep study into nutrition. The surgery is a tool it shrunk your stomach by 85% and removed the nerves that made you feel hungry. Couple of things you did not mention you should be filling up on Protein Shakes Loaded with vitamins and supplements. This will make you feel incredible without calories. I am out about 120 days and there is not a chance in hell i would try and eat steak or any solid hard food. I suggest you set a daily routine - If you read around here there are a ton of people who have posted there Routine. here is mine set by a Paid Nutritionist 1. Breakfast - 10 oz protien shake 30g protien 20 Calories, Two heaping Yogurt spoon fulls Vitamin Powder and Supplement Powder. I also add a few pieces of fruit for taste - 8 blueberrys or 3 cut peaches or a few strawberrys- You drink this over 30 min and no way you are hungry! 2. 10:00 Am - A Protien Bar - High end good quaility Bar - If i need it usually dont 3. Lunch - This is a tough one for me due to work so usually - Handful of peanuts, granola or maybe some chuncked fish or turkey 4. 2:00 Here comes another Protien shake - Usually add Peanut butter or some other funky Yogurt etc 5. 5:30 By dinner i am whipped so really have no desire to eat, usually skip about half the time - Scallops, Shrimp, Fish or a simple protein, Side is usually some small veggie 6. 40oz water a day - I CAN SAY I HATE WATER BUT IT IS A KEY TO FLUSHING OUT AND KEEPING THE KETOSIS GOING. i have this down where i can adjust my loss from .05 pounds per day up to 3/4 a day - I am also very active so that really helps me out. Summary - You have completed step one the surgery - Step two is the diet and intake - The mind is brutal on this surgery and head games to me are harder then the dang surgery to me - You said size i have gone from a size 50 pants to 42 currently and this is the reward! We all were food addicted no doubt - THe US is freakin disgusting with how we eat, Huge portions, all processed and filled with sugar. Good luck and you will get it - I have stalled a few times due to Vodka and M and M's so its not like your alone

    Back to Basics

Okay, so now my focus is back on my weight loss, full throttle. I've been losing consistently, but I think I can do better. 10 pounds a month is okay, but I'd like to jump start it. I know what I need to do. Some days I am the paragon of virtue--Lots of protein, low carbs, low fat. I get off the wagon most on days when i don't work. Structure seems to work well for me. I am so good on work days. Now it's just a matter of getting used to eating like that every day. My short term goal is to eat healthy with no fatty food etc for 6 days out of the week. I'm already doing great on my portion sizes--which in the past were my biggest problem. I've been good with the gym, but I'm going to do better. I can step it up a notch. My goal is to lose 15 pounds this month. Wish me luck! oh and by the way, the guy I was dating sent me an email stating he was confused and not sure what he wanted. I replied that I think it would be better if we were just friends. He has been calling and emailing me like mad ever since saying he wants to see me but I haven't replied. Why is it that guys only want you when you don't want them? Sheesh, I'm not losing any sleep over this one...

    Hello everyone!

Welcome gprice. This is a good site to be at. I also was researching and found this site. Hung around for a couple of weeks and then said hi and haven't left yet. I was banded in May. I am a slow loser. Remember if you get the LB that everyone loses at a different rate. So don't get paniky. Just ask away and good luck on your research. If you get the band let us know.
  22. Hi everyone i saw this forum and thought wow what a great way to talk to others who know just how i feel. I had my surgery on January 5, 2012 so i'm a little over 3 weeks out. I feel so much better but i do have my days. There are some where i just dont want to it and if i try i get nauseous. The surgery went great i really didn't have no problems. i was kept a couple extra days only because they were sure if i had a leak, but luckly everything was good. Home life has been so different i dont quite look at food the same way as i once had. And boy am i forced to deal with my feeling in a whole new way. i have had my ups and downs like when my daughter told my mom, " i wish mommy was her old self" boy did that bring up some guilty feelings. But she only 6 and one day she'll realize i did this to be here for her. My oldest daughter has protested about all the changes but i figure a healther life is a better life and she'll eventually get used to it and maybe some day thank me. I keep telling myself i did this for a reason and thats to be healther. I try my hardest not to just focus on the weigh loss but on the process of changing why i relyed on food so much. It's definatley a journey but i'm up for it. So i started out at 321 pound on the day of surgery and today i'm down to 295 so i Celebrate the fact that i'm no longer in the 3's. Some of my clothes have gotten big but i'm having a hard time letting them go. Yesterday my husband said time to give that one up. LOL so i did. I think i've just about gone down a size so I'm happy about that. i take it day by day but i also look forward to a future were i no longer have to hide who i am but to celebrate me.

    Pain Left Side Under Rib

I am almost 5 weeks out now and didn't start to get the discomfort under my ribcage until around the 2-3 week mark when I was back to my normal routine. My doc said it was normal and it really only lasted about 10 days. He said that if I felt ok in the morning when I woke up and I got sore as the day progressed that it was just me working the muscles in the area he had to muck around in to get to the stomach and it should clear up in a few days. If it is really bad though, I would say that you need to call your surgeon just to make sure everything is normal.
  24. ShrinkingPeach

    Was I just misinformed?

Agreed with @kranky813. I do not have any food restrictions and was told at 5 weeks to slowly introduce solid foods back into my diet. The caveat is that there are foods I should not ever eat. I must always eat Protein first and must only consume 3/4 to one cup of food. Smart, healthy choices must be made or I will not lose. If in question do your research on published diets for WLS patients or see a nutritionist yourself. We only get a small opportunity to make the best of the surgery then it is up to us to maintain it. We can only do that with a proper eating plan. Good luck!!

    Depression?

Thats great, just what i need is more hormones screwing things up,lol-isnt that just the story of our lives? What you said makes alot of sense though. I see my new doc this week and have good days and bad-but I am looking forward to more good!
