    May?

I'm heading to Mexico May 5th for my revision.
  4. I can share my results from revision: banded in 2/2012, lost 25lbs gained 80. Revision 71/2015 and have lost 105lbs so for me is was successful. I say that any surgery, there's always the risk not failure. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. No...not necessarily...First time bypassers and some revisions....
  6. @@Pinkgirl1234 Are you talking about people with revision losing this much?
  7. I was sleeved in 2011 and after losing 88 pounds I gained about 30. An egd revealed my sleeve was stretched and I had a lot of acid reflux. I just had the revision to mini bypass in March. I wish I had done this from the beginning and not the sleeve. For some people the sleeve works great but for me it was not enough and if I had it to do over again I would do the mini or full bypass from the beginning. Good luck with your decision.
  8. I had the same concerns. I was banded in 07 at 389 lbs. Lost weight all the way to 210. I met my wife and lets just say I put on happy weight I got back to 306.7 on my revision day this past monday 4/18. I was lucky and had it done in one surgery. I am 5 days out and down 9 lbs already !
  9. I had a revision done on the 18th and spent 2 nights in the hospital

    Band to sleeve?

I would look for a surgeon who has a better track record. I lost over 150# in 14 months after revising from band. I have been maintaining for over 3 years...

    Band to sleeve?

It may be that "Dr. Wong" has had patients, whether one or 50, who revised from band to sleeve and lost no weight, but he seems not to have given the reason(s). I've never heard what he told you. The only blanket statement I've come across is that those who started with band tend to lose at a slower rate than those who had sleeve surgery only. There, too, I can't say whether it's correct or what percentage of revision patients have the experience. (I think that the rate of weight loss is quite less important than the fact of weight loss.) You may want to attend support groups at your local hospitals in addition to asking and browsing here.
  14. I haven't had a lapband in four years, and for some horrible reason I have regained the weight (not all) despite eating well and exercising vigorously. Therefore, I want to get the sleeve. However, my surgeon has said that it's a 50/50 gamble - 50% don't have ANY weight loss and 50% do. This really shocked me!!!! I do not want a bypass, but he said that's 100% going to work. So scared!??
  15. I often see people who get the sleeve revising to bypass because they are unhappy with their weightloss or feel like they don't have the restriction they need to be successful. I also see people who get the sleeve, lose the weight, and then gain it back and want the bypass, though I suspect that is more an emotional issue than an anatomical one. Personally, I first wanted the sleeve but chose the bypass because I wanted more bang for my buck, no chance of being cut open again for a second surgery (barring complications, of which I had none) and the highest amount of accountability possible. My surgeon's office doesn't do the DS, so bypass it was. I'm nearing my 200 pounds lost milestone, over 140 since surgery in August, still losing pretty consistently. Really, it's all about what you want. Either will be a great tool for you.
  16. Actually the sleeve is the first step, for lots of patients, in the duodenal switch surgery,* not the gastric bypass. Many people do revise to bypass, mostly because acid reflux can be caused or exacerbated by the sleeve, while bypass usually cures acid reflux.] *most DS patients have their stomachs sleeved and their intestines re-routed at the same time, not in a two-step procedure, but for some patients it is safer to do the sleeve first, lose more weight and get healthier, then complete the second step of the DS.
  17. My revision surgery is May 18th. I have to do Atkins diet for 3 weeks then liquids for 2 weeks. I'm a shorty at 5 ft 3 and 220 lbs..my pre-op shake stuff is supposed to come tomorrow. Hope it has a good taste or tolerable anyway. Sent from my Nexus 5 using the BariatricPal App
  18. I am still preop but have heard about a lot of people having sleeve and winding up having to get it revised, but not sure why? I'm leaning more towards the sleeve but am now second guessing myself worried I'd have to get it revised Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. My story, I had the sleeve in July 2014 at 300 pounds, got down to 210 by July of the following year but have been stuck there since. Gain & lose the same 5 pounds no matter what I do. Have tried increasing/decreasing calories, switching up exercising, 5 day pouch reset - you name it I've tried it but I'm stuck and frustrated. It seems like my body decided 210 was the weight it wants to stay at. I never had the big weight loss from the sleeve like I expected. When people were dropping big weight in the beginning months, my was coming off at a snails pace. I also never felt like I had the tight restriction most people spoke about. When we started eggs, most were like "I can only eat a couple bites" and I could eat 1 without any issues and not feel full. I honestly didn't feel like I even had a surgery. I can eat anything without issues and more of it at a time than I ever thought I would be able to after the sleeve surgery. So I'm not looking at possibly going for a revision from sleeve to bypass, but I have a couple questions for those that have been through it. What is your restriction from the pouch like compared to the sleeve? What was your starting weight when you had the revision and how much have you been able to lose since the revision? Do you have any issues with foods after the bypass that you didn't have with the sleeve? Do you regret the revision or happy with your results? I don't have any issues with GERD, I'm just unhappy with my total weight loss. I appreciate any feedback you can give me.

    New to group,

It's tough for the first few weeks...you are sore and tired.Believe me it gets better...I had a revision from lapband to bypass on December 28,2015.I am so happy.Keep in mind I am a slow loser...I am down 40 pounds...People see the difference...I feel fantastic.
  21. I had a hernia and repair when I had the lapband done. No hernia present with the sleeve revision surgery. The hernia is probably the cause to your issues, along with the lower dilated esophagus that is still healing. You will probably need to get the hernia repaired. Unfortunately it requires surgery. What did the surgeon tell you? I'm doing well. The only complaint I have is that acid reflux is back again after getting better 6 months post op. I take a 24 hour Nexium pill that works really well. I had an appointment to see my doc next Thursday and they cancelled and rescheduled for May 12. Keep me posted on your progress. Jake
  22. @@mmy, When I first enquired about WLS last year, May 2015, I was at 32 BMI. I was already freaking out re my rapid weight gain, of 28 kg ..... I never had this problem before until 2014 Routine tests showed thyroid disease, so I had to put off my WLS for about 9 months, till my thyroid stabilised ..... By late February 2016, I managed to pile on another 12-13 kg, and my weight ballooned to 101 kg , BMI 37.1 My surgeon would have operated on me at 32 BMI, to prevent future health risks and to help my deteriorating emotional state. Unfortunately, with my Hyperthyroid (Graves Disease), it was too risky to be operated on. All up, I put on 41 kg (90 Ibs) in a 2 year period (was always slim before). If I did not have this surgery, I probably would be Double my normal weight now ..... I felt I was the only person on the planet that was obese with Hyperthyroid .... even though I now know that I had this disease most of my life, and it kept me slim until 2014. I have no regrets, I lost good amount of weight 7 weeks post op, for my height. I still have a long way to go, but each day is bit better .... My NUT revised my goal weight to 68-70 kg, and I was Not happy with that. I downgraded my goal weight to 65 kg (from 60 kg) I am starting to look better, my face is changing, my aches and pains and other health issues with my rapid weight gain are improving, I am happier, and life is getting better. Good Luck and Best Wishes

    Mental stall?

So I know I am getting my bypass revision, found out last Friday. The three weeks before I was going to the seminar and nutrition classes and support groups and doctors appointment and getting poked with needles, you know all that pre-op qualification stuff. Now I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs and waiting, waiting for a sleep study, waiting for the upper GI and pre-op appointment. I have to just wait weeks and while I am lucky to know that I am getting my revision I feel like I need to be helping along the process. I know I'm just bitchin but I'm impatient lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
