I can have plain yogurt but that sounds pretty boring as well. I feel like I need a change and I still have a ways to go before I start the purée stage

Ok here is what I ate today: Breakfast - 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/4 cup banana and strawberry lunch - 1/4 cup chicken, 1/4 cup cheesy broccolli snack - 1/2 cup yogurt dinner - 2/3 cup beef chili, 1/4 cup mango Snack - 8oz milk I will probably have another 8oz milk before bed I feel like I followed the plan today, yet I feel weak, depressed, and I am having headaches. NO energy to even go on walks. Nurse said I could take tylenol if I broke it up into pieces, thank goodness. How often are you guys eating? I think I am going to set a timer and literally eat every two hours. I just don't know how much I could have per sitting. I am supposed to get 70g Protein a day and I refuse to get that from the Protein Shakes which gave me the worst constipation of my life. Frustrated!

Thanks Mom, I will put that on my shopping list. I'm afraid to eat meat yet, but fish is rather soft, so I figured no time like the present to try it. Just because its been awhile since I had meat, it might just taste good! Breakfast 1/4 cup cream of wheat Lunch 3/4 cup homemade veg barley soup (I put it in the blender since the veggies scared me) Dinner 5 oz greek yogurt (now I see why ya'll eat a lot of yogurt!) Dont think I hit 60 oz of fluid, and calorie intake is still low, but I can't be sure whether or not I"m hungry or full. Wanted to try to get some chicken in after dinner, but I just can't do it. I really never believed such small portions would satisfy, especially after that pre op diet when I felt like I was starving. I LOVE that 5 oz of yogurt really fills me up for quite awhile!

    My Life Still Sucks

I started trying just one meal a day of solid meats, and still chose to stick to super soft meat. Things like fajita meat worked really, flank and skirt steak are kind of fatty, so it helped keep them moist, and easily chewed down. I always added some sort of gravy/condiment/sauce to meat even if it was just a hint of steak sauce, or greek yogurt, it helped me transition to solids. I know you're frustrated. The B12 will actually help with energy. I was popping one 2500mcg sublingual every day, and at my 18 month f/u appointment, my levels were double the high normal so my surgeon had me cut down to 3-4 times a week and my levels scaled down to normal. Honestly, I had some outside life stressors that I think contributed to my "fear" or slow transition to solid food, plus I felt like sh*t for the first 3 months. I was hospitalized again around 6-7 weeks post-op, my husband was in a shithole of Afghanistan getting mortared every day, we went over 30 days with zero communication at one point so my life was pure stress with trying to fully recover before my husband returned was a top priority. I can honestly say that once my husband came home, life was so much easier. I still struggled with solids, but it seems that with that stress out of the way, things really progressed. I know how you feel, I remember those days all too well even though it was so long ago. I also wasn't battling depression so I can not relate to that aspect of your recovery. I was just stressed to the max. I had to really become "Positive Polly" to get me through. Positive affirmations, and just really trying to "self-talk" myself into feeling better every day. I would ask for a scope, but don't surprised if they find nothing. I went through several contrast studies, watching different consistency of liquids move through, and nothing was wrong with my stomach. Have you considered trying a Papaya enzyme to help with digestion? You add it to your food, and it helps break down meats. You could also be experiencing slow transit time. There are drugs for that as well. Bentyl is one that we discussed me going just this January when I was burping up food several hours after eating, and having some gastritis symptoms. I did add some papaya enzyme to my dense Proteins, and it did seem to help with digestion. Please feel free to message me anytime if you need to talk.

Bunny Bandsters - April '09, MASTER THREAD #1

thank you so much for the concern and compassion. it means alot. they did do round the clock fluids. they were putting anti-nausea meds, antibiotics, electrolytes, and morphine thru the iv round the clock for 4 days. the thing of it is, i was in the e.r. 12 days earlier for the same thing and they rehydrated me and sent me home. i just ate a very lightly scrambled egg and am having some yogurt and not having any problems at all which is a blessing. i live in arizona, i am sure there are other band docs around but it's not the band that's the issue - at least according to the hospital. somehow...somewhere...i picked up a heinous bacterial infection and it has wreaked havoc on my system. i can't even imagine eating not only what i used to eat before band but eating just a proper meal like a meat, a veg and a fruit like i did after the band. i am just so thrilled a scrambled egg is sitting well, i am beside myself, lol. i am wondering if there is a possibility of some issues w/ my uterus that could have caused this nausea. they did a ct scan 2 weeks ago when i was in the e.r. and found some problems in the ovaries and i went to an ob and they found problems in the uterus and they did a test and found that i had a high cancer cell count. i am scheduled for a biopsy next week but the medication they have to put me on for that causes...you guessed it.....severe nausea so they can't do that until my stomach calms down. you guys are so great and i love this forum just so i have the chance to vent w/ my soul sisters and brothers who truly understand what it's like to have this little alien inside of us

@BiancaJ im only allowed the shakes- clear liquids and fat free yogurt =[
  13. I see you are pre-op so that's a "whole 'nother world" from post WLS. Because, you still have the monkey on your back for portions and addiction to the foods that made us all fat, especially when it comes to eating easy, crap food that tastes delicious and packs a sh*t ton of fat/carb calories with them and the drive thru is a tempting, evil siren. My advice if THIS above scenario is actually your issue, then we all just have to suck it up buttercup and change the way we deal with food. Now, if I'm wrong and instead it's because you have lost your appetite and desire for food as you move toward the WLS outcome, then I sincerely apologize and will help you brainstorm. I second what everyone said about the crockpot and storebought rotisserie chicken especially post WLS, because crockpots are awesome for cooking things in moist heat so they will go down your new tummy better. But if even a crockpot sounds too gruesome for words with work, then you can think of many other pre-made foods from the grocery. I personally think some of them are full of hidden sugars/salts, but there are some jewels that work really well. I tend to eat the same 2-3 things for breakfast and lunch every day. It's easy. It's easy to track in MFP. And I'm not bored by them cuz they are just "expendable meals." I'm busy with work and other daily chores so am not counting on them to speak to my soul, just fuel my body and keep me from going off the deep end with hunger. Breakfast: 1. Omelet or egg scramble with Hillshire Farms Black Forest Ham or pre-cooked turkey sausage crumbles from Jimmy Dean, baby organic spinach/super greens trio, mushrooms, salsa. 2. Cottage Cheese/Greek Yogurt mixture (to keep the carbs down and get probiotics), frozen blueberries, 5g Fiber One Cereal 3. Green smoothie: scoop of banana cream protein powder, 1.5oz frozen chopped spinach, 1oz frozen blueberries, 5g whole psyllium husks, 12oz water, 4-5 ice cubes=blend and drink. (Sometimes I add 6g Vitacost Peanut Butter Slim Powder.) Lunch: 1. Salad + grilled or unbreaded protein (you can get at any drive thru or make your own) 2. Lunch Wrap: Hillshire Farms deli meat, low fat mayo, organic spinach or chopped cabbage, low cal dressing, low carb tortilla 3. Green soup: 2c water, 1 1/2 tsp Better Than Bouillon, 100g chopped frozen greens-your choice, 2 mushrooms sliced, frozen squash or cauliflower (optional), 2oz diced protein (any kind), spices of your choice, hot pepper vinegar. 4. Sardines, mustard, pork skins and grape tomatoes Dinner: You can do anything, but essentially I grill/broil/pan saute a whole package of chicken on the weekend. I cook a lb or 2 of ground meat (turkey, chicken, lean beef, or pork), and usually make a pork loin cuz they are so dayum cheap. Once that is done, I can portion and freeze or leave in the fridge since there's 2 of us. So that's the meat. Once in awhile I will make a pot of chili, meat sauce for "spaghetti," and special soups or stewps then portion and freeze for rainy, non-cooking meals. I keep frozen veggies (broccoli and green beans), fresh veggies: salad stuff, grape tomatoes, avocados, zucchini, yellow squash, mushrooms, onions, asparagus, etc cuz it takes 5 minutes to whip up a couple of servings of veggies at dinner. I keeps sauces either made or bought to add to meat to jazz it up. I keep shiritaki rice and noodles to sub for pasta. Then beyond that I keep string cheese, cheddar, mozzarella, Parmesan on hand along with cottage cheese, yogurt, hard boiled eggs. I keep packets of chicken, tuna, and salmon in the pantry. With all of that stuff, I'm able to get meals together in 10 minutes or less. That keeps me on the weight loss trail and living the dream as I work toward surgery. If you don't want to cook meat, look in the frozen foods at all the grilled basics like: fajita beef, grilled chicken, brisket, pulled pork--just read the labels for added sugar, carbs, and calories. Hope this helps you!

    June 2022 surgery buddies

Hi all: I’m hanging out in June SB because I am hoping against hope that my surgery date is mid June. My Results visit is 5/16 and I hope to get the date at that visit. Cigna has had my insurance packet for 1 week. Doctor’s office says they take 2 weeks to study it. I began the liver shrinking diet on Tuesday, 5/3 (per doctors office) and I’m down 6 lbs which is nothing short of a miracle for me. A typical eating plan in a day is 2 Atkins Plus shakes, 1 or 2 Oikos yogurts, an Aldi Shrimp meal (140 calories), 64oz water and sugar free ice pops. I WAS hungry on Day 4-yesterday- but I dropped 2 lbs overnight which explains that. I’m using vitamin patches because they are easy and convenient. My nutritionist said they are not effective but drinking all that water makes the thought of swallowing pills impossible. I get blood drawn in one month and any positive change in my levels means the patches are okay. We’ll see. Good luck to all…I am having RNY LAP with hiatal hernia repair. Oh, yeah, endoscopy scheduled tentatively for 5/20. Keep your surgery and recovery stories coming. I learn so much from them.

  16. Ok, those of us who had it today. How did it go, how are you feeling? It was a little more difficult than I had anticipated because of few factors: I got little sleep the night before, had tremendous anxiety, (unusual for me0, and consideredd jumping off the guerny and running for it when theythey were taking me to the OR. I don't ususally have pain from surgeries, and there is some pain, not unbearable though. It's a little better tonight . Did you get a stretchy band to where around your torso? Its so supposed to make you feel a litt more comfortabl but I'm not sure. I thinks its also supposed to help keep the swelling down. Being overly hungry causes me to be qweezy to nauseated (which I fear) and I experienced that before the surgery, which was making me more anxious. the Anesthesiologist gave me so anti-nausea meds before I went to the OR. I think it helped. After surgery, felt I needed pain relief. I panicked when they said they would be giving demerol, since I get sick from it especially on an empty stomach, but they said they do something with it where there's not that reaction any more, and they were right. And I'm having to walk for one minute every 15 minutes to prevent clot, whicih is not quite happening that often, more like every 30min-60min. I also have to blow in that plastic toy like thing to keep my oxgen up, once every hour 6-8 times. The muscles in my chest get sore from doing that but am able to get the number up to the goal level tonight. Was a little harder when still in recovery. The nurse at the hospital said something encouraging - that what ever pain or discomfort I'm experiencing, this is the worst it will be and day by day gets easier. I'll keep you posted. So in summary, more difficult than I thought but this was because of my personal quirks, better than it could have been. I've been drinking a little Water here and there, and 3-4 super small spoons of greek yogurt. When down fine, waited 10 minutes between each one. I did begin to 'feel' when I should probably stop, and I did. I can live with this! I was so worried I wouldn't know when to stop, and get sick.
