  1. I don't think I could handle an ounce though. I put a teaspoon in my yogurt and let it sit for a few minutes, really good that way. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
  2. I was on purees and soft Proteins (yogurt, scrambled eggs, etc) along with liquids in the hospital and on out. The surgeon's practice had been doing sleeves for about twenty years at that time, so I wasn't going to argue with their experience on what a sleeved stomach could handle. A cup of Water per hour is not unreasonable (our standard was an ounce per five minutes though that wasn't a mandatory thing) but that can vary some with the amount of inflammation in the stomach that one has post-op. I can understand their requirement that you be able to handle a cup an hour as dehydration is not uncommon and is probably the most common reason for readmission to the hospital.

    Post op diet

They'll give you a list of suggested liquids at nut classes. Everyone differs. After clear, expect Protein shakes, soups with no chunks, milk, maybe yogurt, all the clear liquids still ok. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

    Isopure drinks

I'll have to look into that. I've spent so much money on protein it's not even funny. Today i can have yogurt and pudding so I am going to try to add some Protein powder to the yogurt and see how that goes.

    Post op diet

This is my surgeon's pre-op allowances. Your surgeon might be different (ex. a lot don't allow the yogurt). If your surgeon recommends FULL liquid diet (65-75 grams of Protein per day): 14 Days Pre Operative - All the above Clear liquids - Protein Liquid supplements - Approximately 1000 calories per day - Skim, 1% or Soy Milk mixed with whey or soy protein powders (limited to 20 gm protein/serving) - Fat Free Cream Soups - Fat Free, Plain Yogurts (not Greek--too thick) Good luck to you!

    7- day post op

I have Clear liquids for 10 days post op except I could do 1 regular Protein shake. Although I tried one on day 3, 5, 7. It wasn't until day 7 that I could handle them, the first two tries were just painful, one sip and dump. Thursday (11 days post op starts full liquids and some pre-selected foods (1oz yogurt, cottage cheese, pudding, or watery refried Beans - all with added protein powder). 3/24 Sleeve buddy wanted

Hey Meimei - I bought the GNC brand of whey Protein and mix it with my Greek yogurt (banana cream protein and vanilla yogurt) and it gives me 34g of protein right off the bat - 2.5 oz of tuna is 16g and cottage cheese is 12g for a half a cup - that's over 60g already - I usually have a glass of milk after my workout which gives me 8-10 more grams. As far as Water - I just keep my water bottle in my hand while I'm walking around the classroom so I'm constantly sipping and getting it in - it has been easier the last couple days. I'll admit I have been tired after school this week but I just don't let myself sit down until my workout is done - I was cleared for full exercise today yay!!! I did 30 min on the elliptical. Keep working at it you'll get there- everything hurts a little less each day - I would say I'm 95% back to feeling normal. Pm me if you want to buddy up :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. For RNY peeps, is there a brand that I can use that has the least sugar? I like the taste of Dannon light & fit Greek, but I noted even it has 8 grams of sugar. Mind you I can only eat 1/2 at a time so I'm getting 6 protein 4 sugar in each serving but wondering if anyone has a favorite that's less sugar still high in protein???

    Pouch Test?

There is a fad diet floating around the internet ("I read it on the internet, so it must be true!") that goes by names such as the "3 day (or 5 day) pouch test" that some use to try to "reset" their eating habits. It usually involves going back to a liquid diet and working back up to yogurt and cottage cheese. It doesn't test anything (particularly a pouch, as with the VSG, we don't have one,) and there are any number of ways people can cut back on their calories again, or reset their cravings after a binge of no-no's. If one actually wants to check the capacity of their sleeved stomach, one needs to eat something that will close the pyloric valve at the base of the stomach - typically a piece of chicken or steak - and not a liquid or sliderish glop that flows through with minimal restriction as is done with these "pouch test" diets.
  12. I wholeheartedly agree with the stirring recommendation - makes it smoother in my opinion. The non-fat greek yogurt can be a little "grainy" in texture in my opinion but I found that stirring it a LOT helped tremendously with that. Also, if you aren't opposed to artificial sweetener, try flavoring it with sugar-free torani syrups.
  13. It is crazy how each Dr is different. Soft foods for me is the longest of the stages lasting 4 weeks, but the other stages were anywhere from 2 to 5 days. Even in the full liquids, I was allowed pudding, yogurt and creamed soups. I'm definitely one of the lucky ones cause I don't see how some handled such limitations.

  19. Hey guys. So I get migraines from stevia, truvia, aspartame, Splenda (sucralose) etc. I can't do the usual Protein prowders or shakes since the majority contain those sugars. I'm going to try GENEPRO (3 tbsp per my nurse) and unflavored unjury for the next 2 weeks. I'm thinking of doing genepro/Unjury shakes/smoothies (with low fat Greek yogurt), slushies, broth (flavored with ms. Dash) or flavored broth. Any other ideas on how to switch it up? Thanks in advance!
  20. I dislike the taste of Greek Yogurt as well but I have found that I like the Yopliat Whipped Greek Yogurt . Very light and a wide variety of flavors..
  21. I couldn't even tolerate the smell of Greek yogurt let alone the taste. I have found that the yoplait light ones aren't too bad. Not as thick and gross as some of the others I have had. Like others have said you just have to play around till you find one you like.

    Protein

Non fat Greek yogurt with a scoop of vanilla Protein powder worked for me when I was tired of shakes. Purée some fruit on top taste like cheesecake. I ate that which gave me 32g of protein and I drunk low fat chocolate milk for a extra 16g of protein Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. TIJUANA BARIATRICS :: 4/1 :: I always wanted to be able to read someone's journey start to finish in quick updates! Especially someone who was having their procedure done in Tijuana. So I am going to try and do some highlights on this post and continually update it through my process... Stats:: 5'5" HW::249 PreOp:: 235 Having surgery at Tijuana Bariatrics with Dr. Garcia. Paid $4,250... I might add on an extra $500 and have them take my gallbladder while they are in there. I really don't want to risk complications with that later on. Started 10 day pre op diet 3/20 and lost almost 15 lbs. Yesterday's laxative cleanse sure didn't hurt! Lol wasn't bad at all. Flew into San Diego Airport 3/31, picked up by driver Luis in an older white minivan. We have to wait for someone else who is flying in at 10:50 AM, so we drove over by the wharf and I'm sitting on a bench looking at the pretty water and boats. 3/31 12 PM:: arrived at hospital and signed a bunch of consent forms. Everyone is super nice and everything looks pristine! I have seen a bunch of people up and walking, who just had their surgery a few hours ago. The lady I drove with from the airport was taken back just now to have her surgery. Mine is tomorrow at 8 AM! 3/31 5 PM:: I had my blood drawn and and EKG done. All seems good. I spoke with two Drs who explained the process and answered any questions. It's nice to have it explained over and over just for reassurance. Everyone is so nice. I asked about getting my gallbladder out, and the Dr said she wouldnt recommend it unless i've had trouble with it before, or the DR sees something while he is in there. She said surgery is shorter and recovery is easier just doing the sleeve. She also said, surgery for gallbladder removal if needed, is safer and easier when I have lost weight. So, I opted out. I'll take my chances I guess. She also sent me home with a sleeping pill which I requested. I was so worried about staying up all night second guessing this decision. In my hotel room now at the Marriott. It's a very nice hotel and I have already called in for my free room service twice. Dr said I could have a plate of fruit and some yogurt. It was heaven after two days of clear liquids! I just had the broth, and it was SO GOOD! I bought a bunch of different broth at home and HATED it! So that was a welcome surprise... I'm first surgery tomorrow, I have to be in the lobby at 6:45 AM and surgery is scheduled for 8! 4/1:: My surgery was at 8 AM, as soon as I arrived from the hotel I was taken to the 2nd floor and prepped for surgery. Next thing I know, I'm out of service. I had some gas pains and was really sleepy. I kept asking to walk, because I wanted the gas pains gone, but then I would fall asleep. As soon as I was more conscious they took me up to my room and BAM the gas pains hit. I immediately walked around. Did nothing for the gas pains. In fact nothing has done anything for the gas pains except for the one time I threw up. I usually hate throwing up, but this really wasn't bad. Which is odd.. So with the intense gas pains I was not feeling up to anything. I set my alarm for every hour and would walk for 15-20 min. The nurses come in every two house and test vitals and adjust iv/pain medication. An unexpected feeling I have is hunger. I feel so hungry! I thought that wasn't supposed to happen. I am really looking forward to sipping on gatorade today. yay! hopefully that doesn't something for the hunger pain. 4/2:: Gas pains are still there, but not as intense as they were, thank God! Feeling a little more sore, and a lot more hungry. It's crazy how this effects everyone differently. One lady has major nausea, one just feels like she has done sit ups and i have the gas pains. Here is hoping these gas pains will break up and the gatorade will help with the hunger! 4/3:: Today was ROUGH... No other way to put it. Getting woken up every two hours for an IV or vitals check is necessary but it takes a toll on you. Woken up at 6 AM to shower and change bandages. Then pack up and head to clinic for X-Ray. Feeling exhausted and gross the whole time. Then you have to take a shot of the worst tasting medicine, while trying to not drink too much at one time. I almost puked on the X-ray machine. Then back to the hospital to get drain removed. Had diarrhea while waiting. Still feeling awful. Drain removal is quick and weird. We are then taken to hotel. Major headache, nausea and fatigue. Seriously felt so awful. Fell asleep before our meeting at 1:30 to learn about our meds and wound cleaning. Diarrhea more before meeting. At meeting she says let her know if you have, I told her I did. Start crying. Embarrassing. Anatallia orders a bunch of meds from pharmacy for me. On top of the other stuff I'm supposed to take. Take first set of pills. Throw up. Feel better. And have slowly gotten better since then. But again, ROUGH day. I think the exhaustion escalated everything. I panicked that something was really wrong, then worried about how to tell someone I had major surgery in Tijuana and now I'm sick. Without just getting a lot of eye rolls back. But now with sleep, liquids and slowly taking medicine feeling a little better. Going back to sleep. 4/4:: So much better today! I slept almost all day yesterday. It was so needed. No sight seeing for me, just rest, liquids and pacing around my hotel room. But it was worth it. I feel a million times better. Been on top of all my meds, showered, clean wounds and getting staples out in the next hour! I go home tomorrow! I think I am having some reflux that feels like hunger, it comes in waves and I'm looking into antacids to purchase when I get home along with all of my vitamins. Diarrhea has been a lot less today, but still there. Making sure to drink the pedialyte the Dr recommended. The last thing i want to do is get dehydrated. I have some gatorade (all that they sell at the hotel) and I think it is causing some discomfort because its the full sugar one. Asked husband to stock up for when I get home on G2 Gatorade. Hopefully that won't won't give as much stomach pain. Although pain is minimal now. Hopefully getting staples out helps as well. Broth, pedialyte, and water are my constants while I am awake. Looking forward to sleep tonight. I have tried to stay awake majority of the day today so I can get solid sleep tonight! Fingers crossed travel home won't be too rough! .... To be continued.

    Why is everything sweet?

As far as soups I've just bought the canned creamed soups (chicken, mushroom etc). I was hoping to hide some unflavored Protein powder in them but there's no way in the world to eat enough soup to waste the powder on, 2-3 small bites and you're full. They don't taste right to me either, maybe something post op. I found the easiest way to get protein in is to mix 1/2 a scoop unjury unflavored (~10gm) to a cup of Oikos zero of my choosing (~15gm). Eating two of those throughout the day is 50gm. My dietary plan allows yogurt during the full/thickened liquid phase. Thanks for this idea. I am four days post op and just can not do the protein drinks. In two days I can have yogurt I'm going to have to get some unflavored protein. Does it make it really thick and gritty? The Unjury powder makes it a little thicker but not much and not gritty at all. When I first tried I used a whole scoop and it was horrid, I don't advise that! =) I eat mine with a fork taking tiny bites and it takes a while to get it all in, but it works. I can't stomach the shakes post op either.
