    10 weeks post op

    We all lose at our own rate. Some are slow losers, others fast. Both are fine. Your weight loss seems great so far @rgwtwins. About 40lbs over 10 weeks is about 4 lbs a week. That’s pretty damn good. Celebrate those pounds you’ve lost. Yes, stalls can be damn frustrating but they do happen & unfortunately can occur a few times. Usually a stall will break in its own time without you doing anything different. If you’re worried, meet with your dietician just to ensure you are not missing something. Sometimes a small tweak will kick start your loss again especially if it’s persisting for more than 4 weeks. Yes @Cheryl A, the higher your starting weight the faster you tend to lose at first but it will slow. If your medical team is happy with your rate of loss, enjoy your weight loss too. It’s probably a bit of a shock but you’re doing well.
  3. Sindibee I'm having an issue getting enough water also. Fluids have been a struggle. I checked in with the Dr on the 18th and I've hit the bariatric plateau. Now I'm going to start things all over to see if I can restart my weight loss. I'd hate to think I did all of this for nothing. Especially considering all the meds needed.
  4. I found myself going up a bit for the first time since sleeve surgery due to sneaky "exceptions" 👎 which I allowed to my healthy eating plan. I since found that a helpful practice is to drink a full half liter glass of water before allowing myself to eat any food or other drink and breaking my meal into two portions separated by at least 15 minutes. When I do that, I really am unable eat more than planned, sometimes I don't even finish. That has me headed in the right direction again, just about back to my lowest weight, which is close to my overall goal. Not saying it's right for others, just a practice that I find quite helpful...

    I bet this is where your body decided you're supposed to be at your best We don't decide our set points for our new weight, but we do decide whether be happy about it. Congratulations!
  6. I had sleeve surgery five years ago. Went from a high of 392 down to 315. I am 6’7” but still to heavy. Since Covid I’m back to 345. I know I need to shed pounds. My cholesterol is high and I am pre diabetic. On Thursday I have my Bypass surgery. Needless to say, im nervous. I know rare but I worry about complications but I believe complications from my weight outweigh it. Anyone else having surgery this week?
  7. My sleep apnea, pre diabetes, and hypertension completely resolved with my weight loss. I was off my blood pressure med by month 2, off my CPAP by month 5, and my A1C was below 6 by my 6 month post op labs.
  8. A new study came out a couple of days ago that found that chewing slowly makes you lose more weight, burn more calories. No idea how much. I am close to 3 months out and have this same problem. I am eating at the same speed as pre-op. I (try to) make sure I chew to small bites, otherwise, I can get discomfort, but otherwise, 90% of the time I am not paying attention and scarf the food down..
  9. There is so much fatphobia and anti-fat bias in healthcare. So many doctors default to seeing us as obese only, and can’t see past our weight so they end up prescribing weight loss as the cure to anything and everything. So your story doesn’t surprise me one bit ☹️ They’ve done that to me so many times, to my fat friends, to many fat influencers I follow on social media.. it’s one of the reasons I got surgery in the first place. It’s so dehumanising to realise you will never really be treated like a person if you’re fat, be that in healthcare or out and about by strangers. Wishing you well and I truly hope that you end up getting relief for your symptoms, be that through continued weight loss or doctors who finally listen instead of judge. 🤗
  10. Dr. Joseph Capella comes highly recommended and specializes in body contouring after weight loss surgery. He has offices in NYC and NJ. Please let me know if you come across any other great surgeons in the NYC area. I get asked this question often and would love to offer other alternative suggestions.
  11. Greetings all, Hope everyone is doing well! I am down appx. 80 lbs (would like to lose another 30 or so) and I can already tell that an arm lift will probably be a necessity in the future. While I am aware that PS is not an option until I hit and maintain my goal weight for awhile, I would like to start to research plastoc surgeons in my area. Any recommendations on plastic surgeons in the NYC/Weschester County area? Or within 2 hours? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated on specific surgeons and overall on recovery from a full arm lift procedure. Thanks in advance!
  12. It’s been 1 year today since i had RNY bypass surgery, i’m down 4stone 3 pounds, would like to lose another stone ideally but seems like i’m stuck at this weight have been for the past 4 month, can’t budge any lower, so happy with my loss though.
  13. I’ve only lost between 39-41 in total including pre op. HW 256, SW 244, CW 215-217. I had a stall at 6 weeks and also gained 2 pds. I went from 215 to 217. Since then I have been losing and gaining the same 2 pounds. I do get my protein in but struggle with water intake. I average about 50 oz a day. My dr put my calories at 800-1000 a day, protein at above 80. Nut told me not to be concerned about fat or carbs at this point. I just started to work out so no muscle gain at this point. I am very frustrated. Anyone have a similar issue or any advice to give ?????

    Topical NSAIDS?

    It’s as @GradyCat said: as long as the NSAID isn’t going through your digestive system you’re fine. The issue with NSAIDS post weight loss surgery is the irritation they cause to your tummy & potential for reflux, GERD, bleeding, ulcers etc. Remember you have a much smaller tummy so the effects of the NSAIDS are concentrated. Topical & intravenous NSAIDS are not absorbed in the digestive system. But check with your surgeon if your concerned.
  15. Your migraines may have improved because of your reduced blood pressure &/or the hormonal changes. Some migraines are triggered by certain foods like pickled or fermented foods, chocolate & caffeine so the changes you’ve made to your diet may also have helped. Whatever the reason why, the fact the attacks have improved is fantastic & a great win. Congrats on your weight loss so far.
  16. Yeah, I guess that’s what is bothering me. It doesn’t feel very good to keep pushing back the goal posts on how much I have to lose to make any difference. Thanks it helps to hear that it did resolve for some people after a while and otherwise hey even normal weight people have these problems too. I had really believed the “losing weight will fix everything” and with no improvement after 93 lbs lost, was feeling real bad about myself.

    Yea I assumed it was the correct weight and based my calculations on that but since it’s the first time I bought those I was 100% sure. I mean it’s a machine and they do short you. Not often but sometimes. I know I have been shorted on other things like Oreos in the past where it was definitely obvious some were missing. I guess I could have got out my kitchen scale and weighed it to figure out the servings too but I did it the hard way. Lol

    The weight figure for the package should be accurate (otherwise they are defrauding you) but size of "pieces" can vary on a product like that, But if you take however many grams there are in a "serving", there should be 3.5 (or whatever is stated) servings of that many grams in the package.

    Band to Bypass Surgery coming up...SCARED

    Loridee, did you lose all of your weight while you had your band? Or did you have more to lose after you revised to bypass? And if so, did you lose your weight slower with the bypass? I'm in the process of revising to bypass from band. My band was removed 4/2021 and now I'm in the process of revising and I'm trying to get an understanding how exactly the bypass is different from the band. I see a lot of people saying it's different and better, but I'm still not exactly sure what makes it different and better. Other than the obvious lack of reflux a lot of banders experienced, myself included.

    5 month stall

    I'm basically in a 5 month stall, my weight loss has been minimal the past few weeks. Right before, I went through a very quick weight loss period (16+ lbs in 5 weeks) after the last slow down. I'm just trying to ignore the scale and keep doing what I have been doing and aiming for the calorie levels flagged by my nutritionist. It is really frustrating but this too shall pass... or that's what I am telling myself.

  22. I agree with the recommendation to work with a trainer. You can talk through your goals and what you want to accomplish through your exercise regimen (flexibility, balance [so important as we age], building muscle, etc) and the best ways to accomplish those goals. It's a financial investment, but well worth the guidance. There is a wide spectrum between using light weights and powerlifting, which a good trainer can help you navigate safely, without causing injury or overtaxing your body. I also would point out that strength training will probably be more obvious in how it helps every day life sooner than you might notice it appearance-wise, especially if you are doing functional training. Even at my heaviest, I was training regularly (cardio, strength, balance, etc) and honestly it made life so much easier compared to when I wasn't.

    Look at the nutrition label on the package (I know, it's ice cream, and we're not interested in its' nutrition!) I will tell you something like a serving is 2/3 cup, which might be 90g for a cheap ice cream with a lot of air whipped into it, or maybe 130g for a premium ice cream with a lot of butter fat in it,) and that there are 3 servings in that pint. Use that weight for your figuring. If you only want a quarter of the pint, then multiply that gram figure for a 1/3 pint serving by 3/4 (Uggg, fractions!) or 75%.
  24. AGREED^^^^. Building muscle takes a lot of time and a lot has to do with our diet. It is even harder to build muscle when in a calorie deficit. For me its taken a while to figure out my body and the calories where i can can muscle but not weight. But thats a much slower process then just eating in a calorie surplus and trying to bulk quick. I also only work out 5-6 times a week and 90 minutes at the most. I mainly do crossfit. Crossfit is for everyone if youd like to try! But regardless of what youre doing, consistency is key. Keep going and take pictures weekly so you can see changes!! Youve got this!
  25. I still have a long way to go weight loss wise, but after 70 lbs I had to cut two of my blood pressure meds in half as my BPs were too low. Having said that, I don't expect my hypertension to resolve even if I get to a healthy weight range. Some people will have hypertension regardless of weight, and with my family history, I will be one of those people. I'll be happy with lower amounts of medication and will consider that a win. I also have a heart issue that my doctor is convinced will improve with weight loss, but again, given family history I think he is overoptimistic. Still even if it doesn't improve the issue it certainly will be better for my heart in the long run so either way it will be a win. The fact that doctors sometimes insist losing weight will fix everything is over simplistic and a cop out (in my opinion). Fit, thin people have diabetes, hypertension, and many other health issues associated with being overweight; case in point, my fit, thin cousin has worse blood pressure than I do that doesn't respond well to medications. Of course losing weight can help with many things, but not always and I think doctors should be honest about that being the case.
