I’m a week out from surgery and yes I’m hungry. I had the lapband for 10 years and never once felt hungry. I am still weak feeling. I’m now eating protein shakes, broths, jello, Greek yogurt and I added a scrambled egg. The egg did help. I did read that when you don’t get enough protein you will be hungry. I can’t eat more than I am.

Trying to get out of my head....
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's really smart. i didn't bother to do that and I should have. I went into my 2 week pre op diet and was completely shell-shocked at how hard it was. I definitely should have started early to get my mind and stomach ready lol -
I really hate stalls!!!!!
SleeverSk replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get rid of your scales then, ( I too am a daily weigher but I don't class anything as a stall until it's been 4 weeks without any movement. ) the further out you get the slower the movement in the scales I only record my weight once a month now and even though on the daily I don't see much difference I am still loosing a tiny bit each month. -
I wasn’t working when I had my surgery but started a new contract with my old employer - different section - 4 weeks later. I told them I had a surgery & my boss just presumed it was a female surgery so he never asked for more information, which I was amused by & never corrected. The specifics of the surgery are really none of their business & you can say it’s private & you don’t want to talk about it. I just intimated the subsequent weight loss was me deciding to make changes & trying to lose weight to improve my health.

Hello everyone, I’m two months post op and I’m having a lot of trouble getting any food/liquid to stay in my system. I have tried just about everything and nothing seems to sit well with my stomach. From clear protein, protein shakes, jello, beans, soups, and much more. Some days I only get some water in and throw up everything else, other days I can keep down just a tiny bit of the protein. I’ve also tried spacing out my intake and drinking slowly and taking tiny sips or bites but nothing seems to work. I’m starting to get really worried because I’m feeling more nauseous than before. And I’ve recently started to get light headed and almost fainted today. Unfortunately my bariatric doctor is out for the next two weeks. Should I just go to a regular physician or clinic? Will they be able to help? I’m a bit hesitant since I’m so comfortable with my surgeon but I don’t think I should wait two weeks either. I may be overthinking going to another doctor

You just had pretty major surgery lots of things will be a struggle for the first week or so & then while you are healing. It’s not uncommon for people to struggle to get in their protein & water in to begin. Honestly the first three days I wouldn’t have drunk more than a cup of broth total. But as long as you’re making an effort & there is a steady improvement you’ll be ok. And yes, warm drinks are often more soothing & easier to tolerate than cold. Don’t be afraid to use hot water or microwave your shake. I did it with my chocolate one every day. (Some powdered proteins don’t mix well in hot water so heat those after you mix them.) I swear I still can feel cold drinks as they pass all the way down from my mouth to my tummy which will then clench. I spread my meds out across the day too. Not an issue. Helped with some of the nausea from the vitamins too. It does better & easier just give yourself time to heal.

I'm 6 weeks post-op and I'm in Jamaica for a family reunion and we are staying at an all-inclusivehotel for a few days. Some parts of this trip as been hard because I am constantly surrounded by the foods I enjoyed growing up but I am unable to enjoy them now. It also feels awkward to be out eating with the family and having to find the right food to eat only to be full in a few bites. Luckily my family understands and are supportive. It also helps when I can make myself busy with other things like being in the pool. Sent from my SM-G996U using BariatricPal mobile app

I had my 2 week post op today which is really almost 3 weeks lol but I have lost 48lb and I was cleared to start my vitamins and purées I am ecstatic! For dinner I’m having just a bit of hummus! -
Three years ago I was revised from VSG to RNY for GERD. I’m very pleased that I am still GERD free and no new problems (let’s hope it stays that way) Everything feels very normal now and I can barely feel any major difference from VSG let alone life prior to WLS. I know it’s different but I’ve settled in. I moved early 2021 so I’m establishing care with a new bariatric practice for continued yearly monitoring/testing. I don’t see a lot of revision postings by anyone as far out as I am, so if anyone is out there please let all know how it’s going and if anyone has questions feel free to ask ❤️

Covid and my sleeve
noteasierstronger replied to SleeverSk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was looking for a thread like this on Tuesday. I had to make myself eat a couple days into COVID, because I knew I needed the protein even if I didn't feel like eating. It has gotten better, but I definitely am not on the same eating/drinking schedule I was last week yet. I am just trusting that if I keep doing what I can, my body will get there. Stupid COVID. TORe Gastric Revision Procedure
GeorgiaPeach48 replied to GeorgiaPeach48's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the TORe procedure done 6/15 and I weighed 201, and this morning I weighed 188. I feel great. I haven’t had any issues at all since surgery ( nausea & vomiting) and healing was rather quick. I felt like my normal self after a few weeks. -
I told my boss and my mom and that's it (not counting my husband, of course). I told other people about 2 weeks after the surgery.

I don't have monthly follow ups. I had my 2 week in the office, then the 1 month on the phone, my 3 month will be on the phone, my 6 month will be in the office, and my 1 year will be on the phone. I asked if I could come in the office and not do phone check ins and they said no, that they do it over the phone. And I asked if I could at least have check ins more often and they said no, that it isn't necessary. So I'm kind of on my own to monitor my weight. And as much as I want to limit how often I weigh, I find myself still weighing too often. -

Definitely go at your pace! For me i started crossfit a few weeks after surgery and its definitely been my most consistent form of exercise over the past 3 years. and 100% the reason i look the way i do. And when you do decide to up your caloric intake, just remember to stick to healthy choices, and give yourself time to figure out your calorie range. There is no perfect formula. Everyone is different. i also completely understand the mental side of all of this. upping my calories was harder mentally then any of my runs lol. it is scary. but one thing i am sure of, if you exercise an hour a day 5-6 times a week, it will be hard to gain weight back. find something you love and stick to it. i highly recommend crossfit to anyone regardless of age, weight, size and so on!!. congrats on your loss so far and keep crushing it! -

Yeh I understand the mechanics behind it. It's just when I did incorporate strength training, my weight loss stalled. It could be a matter of fact a temporary thing or that stall and weight training coinciding but I yeh I did stall. And frankly it started affecting me mentally how I won't reach the goal etc etc etc. Plus schedule for hectic and couldn't get into the routine. I think once I lose another 12lbs and i am hovering around 25 BMI, I'll feel more mentally equipped to kick start a more enhanced routine. For now I stick to my daily 45 mins to an hour long walks. -

You weight loss won't stall from working out intensely. In fact, you will burn more calories if you build muscle because it's the muscle in our bodies that burn the fat. While muscle is denser than fat it is incredibly hard to GAIN muscle weight, especially for women, and especially once you get past 40. While you might increase your muscle mass by a few pounds, this should be more than offset but the calorie burning effects of muscle. And building strength is important because we lose muscle mass when we lose weight quickly, and that is not good. Definitely incorporate strength training as soon as you are cleared by your surgeon - about 4-6 weeks out for most people. -

I weighed only at my monthly follow-ups mostly, well completely, because I was too large for home scales. I never saw a stall. As a result I never felt angst about a stall. I was never tempted to change my plan to "get things moving." I had no choice but trust my plan. As a matter of fact, one of my pre-op goals was being able to weigh on a home scale. When I achieved this I weighed myself every day, a few times a day, mostly because I could. I realized if I didn't stop eventually I would drive myself crazy(ier), so I went back to only weighing at follow-ups, then later only at medical appointments. Now it's mostly at my annual physical. There are more important things in life than a number on a scale. Good luck, Tek -

I messaged my obgyn to see if she would put in an order for my blood work I need and she very kindly did that- saves me the out of pocket cost to get that run though insurance for sure. Having an obgyn who has also had a sleeve is awesome. Surgery is next month- kind of freaked out about it. The recovery is going to be difficult because I won’t have my core or my arms to help me. I’m trying to decide if I’ll stay in the city that my surgery is taking place for a few days or brave the 2 hour drive home. They said I’ll hopefully get two drains out at one week and the final two out at two weeks. I wish I didn’t have to have drains at all because they kind of freak me out but oh well. I’m also curious to see if my pant size changes at all. My goal isn’t to reduce that, but I know they will be removing a lot of skin from my abdomen so it’s possible. If so I guess I’ll just buy all new pants yet again. Just running through new clothes nonstop over here over the past few years. The pants are especially annoying though because I have to find tall sizes and those are almost impossible to get second hand. It will be worth it in the end. I’ll see if I feel brave enough to post a before/after that actually exposes my abdomen. I always like to try to share as much info as possible with the forum, because I know how much I appreciated it when I was going through the sleeve process! -

Amazingggggg - Truly. I posted something similar today having lost 100+ lbs and it's truly liberating a feeling. Like you said, these surgeries truly open a whole new realm for us. Things that seemed impossible to achieve seem right around the corner to grab. I still have a long way to go. And I would want to lose a little more before I go the route of upping calories and building definition. I know once you start working hard core your weight loss stalls for the obvious reasons. So I just mentally want to be at a certain numbers before I let lose and incorporate heavy duty strength workout. Once again congrats and keep at it bruh. -
PO day 2 for me today. I’ve had a terrible headache since last evening but pretty sure it’s the lack of calories (I am on clear liquids today, to full liquids tomorrow) - yesterday I slept on and off all day on the recliner and the recliner is definitely more comfortable than the bed. My goal for these three days is 30oz of water/clear liquids and I managed about 35oz yesterday. I was having a lot of trouble deep breathing without pain so I’m hugging a pillow and trying to cough several times a day. It’s definitely helping. My JP drain is the most uncomfortable but it isn’t really painful. Looking forward to that being taken out next week for sure. Trying to see if I can manage with only Tylenol today because I think the painkillers might be sending me a bit loopy. hope everyone post op is recovering well. cay

Stop weighing yourself everyday. I weigh myself once a week. Mondays, which was my surgery day. You could even weigh less if you wanted, everyone is different. I tried once a month but I couldn't wait that long. haha Once a week works well for me though. -
Stop loosing WAY too early
sprukop0924 replied to Veritas34's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In my case, I started losing again by eating MORE calories. I'm 62, so that could be a factor. I also spend 45 mins at the gym 5 days per week doing elliptical and free weights. I lose about 2 lbs per week as long as I keep my calories under 1200, which allows me to eat pretty much whatever I want. My program allows carbs - as long as they are whole wheat or brown rice or vegetables/fruit. I am at week 9 and am down nearly 40 lbs and 2 dress sizes and have loads of energy. It's so nice to be able to give MYSELF a pedicure! lol. -
The second I was allowed caffeine at 3 months post op, I went right back to my coffee! I don't know if you will be allowed diet soda in the future but you may not even like it if you are. I lived for sparkling water before and now if I try to drink it, it causes this uncomfortable pressure feeling in my stomach. I don't like it anymore! I make a smoothie every morning with coffee, almond milk, and protein powder. I didn't even know Fairlife had a coffee protein shake. It's so hard to find around here. I feel like I've been robbed!
