  1. Oh...gotcha! There are soooo many steps that i dont even know whats reaaly next. I guess i just assumed they wont schedule my surgery date until we find out if im approved. Hope this week flies by for you!!
  2. Mom did nothing for me. I was told to use miralax by my surg but that does not work for me either. I have to take a laxative in order to go. I have tried veggies, water, exercise and herbal tea. People say it is because we are taking in few calories. But without my once a week laxative I just don't feel right. I feel bloated and heavy.
  3. i had my third fill on april 15 and still havent lost any weight. i have been going for a 2 mile walk outside 5 days a week now for one month. the walk is challenging with 3 medium hills and one huge one so its not that i am doing a easy walk. i also havent had any fast food for 5 weeks now. i did have chinese (1/2 a kids size plate) last friday but thats it. the only thing that i can think of is that i may have something sweet once or twice a week. i usually have a lower fat candy bar or an ice cream. i have noticed that somedays i may eat 5 times a day and other days i only eat 3 times a day. i wonder if this is causing my weight to flexuate. this happened to me before surgery i was exercising alot and still didnt lose. im trying not to get frustrated but the scale needs to move. this is crazy, i havent really lost anything now for 3 months. i will try to keep my chin up and keep on trying but i do get discouraged. ps i can definetely feel restriction this time, some foods i can feel trying to squeeze through and it hurts, also if i eat to fast or dont chew good( im still not doing well on this) my stomach will ache for awhile. any feedback would be great thanks andrea
  4. Hey guys, I feel like I've come to a halt in regards to food! Like I'm not interested in it to an extent. I look for recipes online but I just don't have the craving/temptations. Is this normal? sanaa
  5. My surgery is November 3rd and my doctor has me starting my pre-op diet October 31st. Has anyone else had a 3 day ore-op diet? Breakfast & lunch I can have a shake and morning & afternoon snacks I can either have a low fat cheese stick or a hard boiled egg then for dinner 6 oz of chicken breast with 1 cup of veggies. I am very confident with my choice of doctor he is very well respected. I just see all these 1 & 2 week pre-op diets and wonder why I only am doing 3! Of course I had my last appointment and forgot to ask.
  6. hey everyone im new to the site and have a question for you guys i got banded febuary 1st and after about 7 days of just optifast and liquids i started eating like normal with no problems. I havent been eating bad foods neccessarily but i have been eating alot of food and i would like to know if this has happend with anuone and if it will change when i get my first fill..........thanks everyone
  7. Well, its too soon for your body to be on full regular foods. You should go back to soft/mushy foods for a little longer while you heal. I was the same way, when I started eating regular food, I could eat anything and everything I wanted. When I went in at 6 weeks for my first fill, the doctor said that was a good thing because it shows you are healing well. I could not get my fill at 6 weeks because my port flipped, so I just had my first fill this past Monday. I can tell you, I do feel some restriction (I am full with 1 scrambled egg or 1/2 cup chili) but I'm not at that 'sweet spot' where it holds me over for 4-5 hours. I am hungry every 2 hours. I have a 14 cc band, and when I got my first fill, the doctor put in 6.5cc, I go back in 3 weeks for my next fill and to check the incision site where he had to go in and flip my port back over. I'm feeling good, and hoping that with this fill I will start to see the scale drop again.
  8. Please help. I need advice, I don't want to run to the doc for nothing... I had my surgery a week ago Friday (17th). I was pretty good about not lifting anything for a few days, but I have two children under the age of 3 (one who is just 13 months old and still nursing). I've also started walking so I've been active. My pain has never completely gone away, but that doesn't concern me. What concerns me is that it seems to be getting worse around my port incision. I can feel a mass underneath... scar tissue? the port? A HERNIATION??? IDK!!! It hurts to stand up, but I'd say only a 2 or 3. I'm not on pain meds anymore. SHOULD I BE CONCERNED OR IS THIS NORMAL?? THANKS!
  9. I am about a month out, and I still have some pain at the port site. When I was a week out, was when the port site hurt the worst. I think what you are feeling is normal...even the anxiety about it, because like me (probably), you have been reading all the port horror stories on here...I had stop visiting this site for a little while to regain some reality. Anyway, I think, like stated above, the mass you are feeling is the port itself. I remember it being the same way. That incision site was redder, more tender, and bigger than all the others, and that scared me as well. I have one child under 3 and she can play pretty hard with me, and even though she has grazed the spot on occasion (since week one) and I pick her up and carry her a lot, my port seems to be fine. Although I will say, I did A TON of house work yesterday, and could feel some strain at the site. I talked to a woman who had the surgery 4 years ago, and she says her port still gets tender from time to time (coughing, sneezing, when she is sick or does a hard workout etc.). Good luck to you, I would still call your surgeon, but I think you are fine.
  10. Hi, everyone! So I was finally banded on August 20th and I have to say, I feel way worse than I expected. I had my surgery on Wednesday and took the rest of the week to recuperate. It's not so much discomfort from the band-- that part is exactly how I pictured it would be, and it seems to be working well. I've been following the post op diet and such and it's been going pretty well.Today is Monday and I am back at work... and I just feel AWFUL! Let me explain. For starters, I have 4 incisions, 3 of the are half and inch and the largest is an inch. It is located about 3 inches up and one inch to the left of my belly button. The doctor used surgical glue to seal the wound, so it is not leaking at all, but it's very painful and has a deep red/purple/blue bruise around it that started growing from day 1. By day 3 it was the size of a baseball, round, and very, very numb. I thought that the numbness was due to the On-Q Pain Buster they used to numb the site of the incisions afterwards... but today is day 6 and it's still really numb and hot to the touch. There's a sharp pain when I breathe, which is keeping me from taking deep breaths, which might explain why I've been so tired. I don't think it's infected, but then again, I'm not a doctor. I called the office for the follow up, but they said I'd have to wait two weeks to see my surgeon again, due to his busy schedule. I'm really frustrated about it and I'm pretty uncomfortable. Anybody have the same issues? Am I just nuts??? Please help! I'd love to hear from others about their post-op issues!

Thank you both for your uplifting words. I am still hungry and I'm close to 4 weeks out!!! Drinking fluids is still very difficult and has always been, even before my sleeve. I knew it would be difficult. my weight is slowly trickling off & I can't wait to see how the next few weeks turn out. I already have a juicer but haven't used it, yet. I'm going to try it and see if it helps. My eating is very poor.

2 wks post op - plateau?

I am about the same place you are. My total loss is 15 pounds and I have been "stuck" for a few days. I was exhausted this week after returning to work, but now no more excuses- I will walk on the treadmill everyday!!!

2 wks post op - plateau?

You will have to up your calorie intake to start losing.. I have a feeling that you are in starvation mode...I have heard that the optimal caloric intake is from 1000 to 1200. Some please correct me if I'm wrong.. I know that you are only two weeks out but you have to be patient.. Make sure you are getting your water intake and work on the protein intake..You will be losing before you know it..good luck
  14. Hello everyone, To make a long story short, my surgeon suspected a tiny leak and although nothing has showed up on my tests, he still wants to treat it as if I do have a tiny leak. So I am on IV antibiotics and TPN. I have about one more week on this. My question is this: Did anyone get weened off the TPN or did they get off of it and back onto Clear liquids?? I am wondering instructions were given to those who were taken off of TPN? I am concerned about my nutrient levels if I am off the TPN cold turkey and go right to clear liquids again. Any help please???

    What do you think?

Remember that the 1st 6 weeks is really for healing, and that should be your focus. The weight loss is a pleasant side-effect. Please don't worry about this at this early point. Start practicing taking the long-term point of view, don't rush things, and stay focused on health. I promise you will be happier and healthier, and you will lose weight. This is not a race. You are doing great, don't jeopardize it by getting in a big hurry. Good luck! Cindy

    Heparin Shots?

I had to anti-coagulants for 2 weeks after surgery. My husband googled how to administer them and they weren't that painful. I am still covered in bruises tho and I've not had any shots for a week now!

    Is this normal...??

I have a large bruise also. I think it's from the slight extra pressure that they use to insert the needle into the port. Mine has been like that for a week. I just had it done again yesterday again, so I can imagine how I'm gonna look bruise-wise. I think you'll be fine.

    Lap Band Fill

Six weeks after surgery for me. Then one 2 weeks after that, I go for a third this Wednesday. I still dont feel much restriction. I hope this one does it for me. Everyone is different
  20. I am GETTING my CPAP next week some time. My sleep test was what prompted me to go ahead and decide on the lap banding. I NOW have hypertension, high triglycerides, high cholesterol, pulmonary hypertension, and NOW OSA. :omg: I said enough is enough.
  21. Last week was such a crappy week for me workout wise. I lost like 3 pounds but I had SH*TTY training sessions..like to the point I felt like I let my trainer down. He even asked me if I felt okay because I wasn't my usual self. So I am going to bounce back this week and remove the words "I can't" from my vocabulary! I am also needing to increase my calories, which is a bit of a scary thought for me..I am around 1,200 a day now at 6 months out. According to my TDEE which I adjusted for having less lean body mass I need to be somewhere around 1,500 calories a day to lose weight. Furthermore, I need more sleep. According to my UP band..I am only averaging like 6 hours of sleep a night. Anyway..that is my confession!

Diagnosed as being anemic following lap band installation

I had my lap band installed about a year and a half ago. I was just recently informed by my Doctor that I was showing up as being anemic following my most recent lab work. I was referred to a Gastro Intestinal Doctor to have a scope placed in my stomach to see if there was any evidence of internal bleeding? No sign of internal bleeding however it was noted that my red cell count, white cell count and platelet were all three running "low" I am now going to see a blood specialist at the local cancer Center this coming Wednesday to try to determing the cause of these low readings???? Has anyone out there experienced this problem after lap band installation????

    Help!!

Hello, I have not posted on awhile. I had my surgery on August 25, 2004, and I have only lost 28 pounds I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. I had my first fill about a month after and then my second fill around the first of December. My first fill really did not have that much of an effect on me, but this second has. I still feel a lot of restriction, like I know its working, but I just can't seem to loose anymore weight. I know that I have lost inches, because my clothes are really baggy, but the scale is just not reflecting any weight loss. I have been exercising atleast 3 times a week, and I still have not lost. I was wondering if anybody could give me some meal suggestions. I have been eating baked chicken and streamed veggies for lunch and super or switching one of them out with some noodle soup. And for breakast I am eating oatmeal. So I am jsut confused, I feel like the band is not working. Its weird though, because I feel so much restriction, like I cannot eat very much, so you would think that the weight would just be falling off, but its not! I was just needing some suggestions for food, or working out that anyone could pass my way ~

    Fish Oil Weight Gain

My doctor had me start 2000mg a day in November along with Atenolol to help with my migraines and because my blood pressure was slightly high (I was 258 at that appt). In December i went back and i was put on blood pressure medicine and upped the fish oil to 3000mg a day. I went back in January and i weighed 268 and i had done nothing different than i had the past 6 months i maintained my weight!!. Now through all this i had been working out a few days a week and i dont eat bad (just horrible with portion sizes). Last week i weighed myself in at 275 and i started to cry. I looked up online thinking it was my medicine that i was on that i was gaining weight like crazy as it was the only new thing in my life. I stopped taking the fish oil about the same time as all the pills were binding me up (sorry TMI) and i weighed in this morning at 269....so maybe it WAS the fish oil pills as i am still taking the other medicines. Needless to say im not taking them anymore...and im going to bring this up to my doctor at my appt in a few weeks... I havent been banded yet but i dont see how a banded person can swallow these pills they are huge!! Have you been banded and if so do you have a problem with them?
