  1. I looked up more details. Non fat milk has 12 g carbs and you are supposed to keep carbs to under 40 grams a day for the first 2 weeks. So keep that in mind with the milk. You will get through this. Keep up the good work.
  2. I know it sounds funny. But we have been going threw a bad patch. I keep telling my self that no matter what I can make it threw this. I have had a lot going on in one week and it has made things very hard on me and my family.
  3. I will be two weeks post-op this Tuesday. For a few days now, I have had a really bad pain in my lower back. My prescription Tylenol works to knock it out but I feel like I'm only taking it for back pain and pain from my stomach. I do have a little pain directly in front of that on the front side but it feels more like my esophagus instead of my stomach. I'm waiting on my surgeon to call me back. Has anyone experienced this?
  4. All the best Dave, I hope recovery is still coming along nicely. Thee-O, I hope your surgery went well the other day and that you are recovering comfortably too. My surgery is on Saturday 21st - it will be nice to check in on you both as we go. Have a great week. Gordana

    Allergies

I was just sleeved last week, but my surgeon told me I could continue to take Zyrtec, but in the liquid form. I haven't actually had to yet.....
  6. hi there, Need some advice/guidance/suggestions from fellow bandsters. I will be 7 weeks post op tomorrow. I lost about 8 pounds during the liquid post op phase and have only lost 2 more pounds since. I've had two fills so far and both of them don't seem to provide me much restriction. The most recent one was 8 days ago. I think I have about 4cc's total. I called again this morning to make another appointment as yesterday as I ate a hamburger - bread and all - with no problem I realized this just can't be adequate restriction (can it?). And I want to start losing weight! Soon after making my appt for this Saturday, my husband and I went out to lunch at Sharky's. I was good and got a power (protein) plate..thinking it was a healthier choice. I had only had an nonfat iced blended coffee this morning so this was my first "meal" of the day. I took small bites...but suddenly, I got pain in my chest. It was my second stuck episode and I was in public. Worse, there was only a single bathroom so I could not wait it out without drawing serious attention to myself. I quickly left the restaurant and spent nearly the next 45 minutes PB'ing in a cup next to poor DH in his car, during my work lunch hour. I must of PB'd 8-10 times before I felt better. My first stuck episode was in the AM, 3 weeks post op...I had bread. I think I deserved it, or at least is was explainable. But the small bites of steak (which I have regularly)? So what I am wondering is how can I feel no restriction, eat a burger, and then get stuck on a little bite of meat the very next day. After being stuck, I wanted to drive straight to the ER and remove my band. And now I feel fine, apprehensive to eat, but I keep burping the taste of the whole stuck episode. I never want to experience it again but sadly, I think that it's eminent. ..right? Please please share with me your tricks, if you have any, to: 1. Avoid getting stuck 2. Recognizing when you are stuck 3. Making the pain more bearable 4. Tricks/tips to make an episode pass faster? 5. Do you pros still get stuck? 6. Do you taste the PB for the rest of the day? 7. How many fills did you have before you felt good restriction? 8. Does getting stuck mean I do have adequate restriction?? I sure hope not cuz my scale isn't moving much... 9. Should I now not get a fill? I felt restriction during the 2 days liquids and then once I introduced food again, it was like GONE. Sorry for my rant/raving/ and multiple questions. Any advice and tips would be appreciated.

    Starting to freak

Better. The Ativan was actually prescribed for my plane ride, but I took one today just in case I have any sort of reactions and so that in know what dosage to take. He pills are only .5mg and I think I might need 2. I'm not even positive they did anything for me at all. My nerves are better. I think ive had every emotion known to man in the last here weeks since I booked my flight and today's is "ready to get this over with". If I could go today I would. thx for checking up on me.

    normal?

I didn't worry about how much Water or food I was taking in during the 1st and 2nd week. My sleeve was still swollen and there wasn't much room. I was eating about 1/2 popsicle and whatever water I could take in per day, the 1st week. On the 2nd week, I was eating about 1/2 can of Cream of Mushroom Soup per day and whatever water I could take in. It wasn't till about week 4 that I was able to get in the recommended daily Protein and water. Keep pimpin that sleeve!

    Weight issues

Good morning..so I am 17 pre opp..and I haven't lost weight ..I fluctuate between 13 to 16 pounds loss..I have not gone to restroom in about close to 1 week, but I feel no discomfort..is this normal? Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I had the same discomfort when swallowing in the beginning. It was a feeling of pain/pressure right between my breasts and then it would be relieved after the liquid had time to go down more. It kind of scared me, because I was afraid it would always be like that, but my discomfort cleared up after several weeks. My doctor said it was normal and that as the swelling went down, I would feel better. He was right. For me, it took about a month before I started feeling pretty comfortable when I drank/ate.
  12. I was so thirsty sometimes, it was almost unbearable! Popsicles were awesome!! I also had the feeling that liquids were getting stuck halfway down. It went away fairly quickly. It is so nice now to be able to take real drinks! I did alot of Jello, sf pudding, premade shakes in the beginning also. It was probably a week or two before I did a real banana but that was mainly because we eat them on the green side rather than overly ripe. Not sure if you meant actual bananas or banana flavored popsicles, so responded to both : ) I also liked cottage cheese and mashed potatoes. You are doing much better than I did with liquids. I had a hard time getting 64 oz down the first couple of weeks. Congrats on your surgery! Hope the rest of your recovery goes smoothly!
  13. Wow, when I said on Friday that it's a day by day thing, it truly is! So, lunch didn't go as well as I had hoped. I had a 10 ounce lunch, still hungry. Had a cheese stick--still hungry. Had a few mini wheats before forcing myself to STOP. I mean I was so hungry I couldn't stop! Now I know 13-14 ounces is WAY outrageous for any bandster meal, but how could my doc see restriction if I am still capable of eating this way? True, this is the first day I am like this and it could very well be that I need to just throw a snack in between my Breakfast and lunch to keep the hunger at bay (trying to do breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack), but can someone tell me how I can go from being so tight in the morning that I can't even eat breakfast until 11:30 and I just hoovered all of a 13-14 oz lunch??? Yes, all healthy food, but the quantity of it scares me as I am sooo paranoid about stretching my pouch. Could I need another fill already? It will only be 2 weeks on Thursday!
  14. Hi I had my op 3 weeks ago. I lost 5kg in my pre op so was over the moon and in the first week of the op lost another 6kg, but for the last 10 days the weight has fluctuated up and down by .5kg. I am following everything. Is this normal? Am i expecting too much? It feels a bit disheartening
  15. Thanks everyone! Glad to know I am not the only one. I am going to try and just weigh once a week so the scale doesn't drive me so crazy. I know I am still recovering...just want to make sure I have some good results before seeing my Dr. I was disappointed that I wasn't seeing her until 7 weeks after, but now I am glad. I decided to start working out on my elliptical while my son naps. Going to make myself a chart today to keep track of my workouts and weight loss to keep me motivated to make the right choices.
  16. Try upping the calories a bit! I lost 14lbs 3 days before surgery, then 7lbs the next week, then only 3lbs the next week and was frustrated. Sometimes our bodies can go into "starvation/shock" mode and hold on to everything thinking it is never getting more calories again or for a while. I talked to my nutritionist and she said to try upping my calories a bit to 1000-1400 a day and it has worked wonders! I have been dropping more weight since... Also, it is super normal to feel hungrier now that the post surgery feeling is going away. I am personally struggling with that now because I was supposed to have my first fill last week but due to a incision infection it has been put off until this thursday. Stay strong lady! Also, try to only weight yourself on one day a week, in the morning, naked. I used to get on the scale every other day and I made myself crazy! Our weight fluctuates daily depending on if we have gone to the bathroom or drank alot of water or where we are in our cycles etc... If you stick to one day a week you won't stress out as much! Good luck and keep up the good work... be strong lady!
  17. :wub:I am 18 days postop. I am so grateful for the surgery and also the removal of a hematoma that was a complication from a previous surgery ( the hematome, about the size of a baseball) I have lost 12.5 pounds since the day before surgery. I am eating about 1100 to 1400 calories. This may sound like alot to some but I know if I eat less than that my body thinks it is starving and holds on to the weight. I excercised to "Zumba" today for a full 20 minutes. It is a totally fun latin dance excercise dvd. I felt I hit a mini goal. I am hopeful for 1.5 to 2 lbs a week on average. If I loose 6 lbs a month I will be at my goal by my band aniversary date. My first goal will be 170 and my second goal will be 140. I don't want to loose too quickly. I have seen people loose too quickly and they look horrible and unhealthy. Eating a balance of fats, carbs and protiens will keep my hair and skin healthy. Being over 50 that is so important to not let the weightloss age me anymore than I already am. My restriction is very comfortable right now. I am about 3 cc's and I go for a fill in 1 week. I am not sure I want too much of a fill I will need. My attitude is this band is a tool. I will not look at it as a "cure". I am grateful I can sit down with a small meal and not be hungry afterwards. Wow! that is awesome. One of the main things that has helped is not eating until I am physically hungry. I am finding other activities when I have head hunger or deal with the root of the head hunger. That is such an important difference than before. Well that is all for now!:rolleyes2: Best wishes for all on this journey! Lee Anne

    Consultation seems so far away...

It will go by quickly, you'll see! I had to attend a seminar (to choose the right doctor group, I went to two of them), have a consultation, then my insurance company revealed their requirements to me. From there, I started on a 3 month diet. I remember it was 2 weeks from when I called my pcp to when I actually got in to start my diet. It felt like it would be a very long time, but then everything seemed to move very quickly. Best of luck to you and your journey!

I'm having a ok week, not great, but better than the last couple of weeks. I hope I can keep this going, I really want to lose 30 lbs before we go to Hawaii this fall. I don't think this is an unreasonable goal. I just have to be on my toes and stick with it. I really have to excersise more. I wish I could be one of those people who only eat 600 cal a day. I just don't know how they do it. I have a hard time staying a 1200 cal a day. I feel good if I stay around 1500 cal a day. Oh well I know I can't give up on this, that I have to make it work some how. I have to learn how to resist all the tempatation that out there. I have learned that I can't have Pringles in the house or cookies or most sweets. I need to learn to let some things go and keep other things. I tend to worry to much about all things and I really do want to control all things. So you would think I could control my eating, but I don't. Its the one thing that I can count on to be good. Most of the time its is good, but there is other times I feel like its not a good as I thought it would be. Just wish I would learn to think of food as not as good as I think it is. I must repeat this thought to myself at all times. I can do this. Its not that Hard. Food is not that good. I want to feel better. I want to have a life outside of this house. I will not be embrassed at the sight of my own body. I will not feel as if my husband is embrassed at my size. I will not feel as if my family is embrassed at my size. I will do this. I'm smart enough to figure this out. I can do this. I can do this,
  21. I had my RNY on April 9th and ended up having my gallbladder removed on June 26th. The gallbladder did not hurt as much as the RNY but the recovery time was about the same. I felt weak and uncomfortable for about 2 weeks after both surgeries. I'm glad that is all behind me and I am on my way to feeling 110%

    I have a surgery date!

I just got scheduled for October 22nd! They had an opening on Oct 3 that I really wanted, but my friend is going with me as my companion and wasn't available. I start the preop diet in 3 weeks. Until then, I am having a food Farewell Tour and enjoying some favorites for the last time for a long long time. I am also buying some samples of different Protein shakes to see which ones I like. Good luck!
  23. Did anything change in your diet at the same time ? New food types introduced? I think a lot of us are losing during pre & post op weeks at a great rate due to being in calorie deficit as well as in a state of ketosis. Then we go and add pureed stuff that maybe takes us out of ketosis.....depending what it is we add to the diet. Our bodies fuel type changes....things occur.

    Did It Work?

Nice to find someone Australian like myself.. I use a conversation calculator to write in lbs and most ppl on here use lbs instead of kgs.. I find the same my surgeon says to stay on liquids for at least a few weeks shakes etc but I see others advancing to next stage early as 1 week post op... I feel it's best to let the pouch and all heal before rushing to the next stages...

    Did It Work?

This post is common - I have no idea how you can eat a 14 oz steak after this surgery I am lucky if i can eat 4oz. You are at a crossroads, same position most of us hit. You are head hungry not really hungry, sorry seems brutal but once the shock and awe was over you are losing the battle in your head not your stomach. My view is you need a nutritionist or a deep study into nutrition. The surgery is a tool it shrunk your stomach by 85% and removed the nerves that made you feel hungry. Couple of things you did not mention you should be filling up on Protein Shakes Loaded with vitamins and supplements. This will make you feel incredible without calories. I am out about 120 days and there is not a chance in hell i would try and eat steak or any solid hard food. I suggest you set a daily routine - If you read around here there are a ton of people who have posted there Routine. here is mine set by a Paid Nutritionist 1. Breakfast - 10 oz protien shake 30g protien 20 Calories, Two heaping Yogurt spoon fulls Vitamin Powder and Supplement Powder. I also add a few pieces of fruit for taste - 8 blueberrys or 3 cut peaches or a few strawberrys- You drink this over 30 min and no way you are hungry! 2. 10:00 Am - A Protien Bar - High end good quaility Bar - If i need it usually dont 3. Lunch - This is a tough one for me due to work so usually - Handful of peanuts, granola or maybe some chuncked fish or turkey 4. 2:00 Here comes another Protien shake - Usually add Peanut butter or some other funky Yogurt etc 5. 5:30 By dinner i am whipped so really have no desire to eat, usually skip about half the time - Scallops, Shrimp, Fish or a simple protein, Side is usually some small veggie 6. 40oz water a day - I CAN SAY I HATE WATER BUT IT IS A KEY TO FLUSHING OUT AND KEEPING THE KETOSIS GOING. i have this down where i can adjust my loss from .05 pounds per day up to 3/4 a day - I am also very active so that really helps me out. Summary - You have completed step one the surgery - Step two is the diet and intake - The mind is brutal on this surgery and head games to me are harder then the dang surgery to me - You said size i have gone from a size 50 pants to 42 currently and this is the reward! We all were food addicted no doubt - THe US is freakin disgusting with how we eat, Huge portions, all processed and filled with sugar. Good luck and you will get it - I have stalled a few times due to Vodka and M and M's so its not like your alone
