    First 3 days after surgery

I was sleeved on the 20th (revised from band). Feeling pretty good, just struggling to get Protein down. Any tips? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Hi Tommy! Congratulations on your decision! I'm a revision lap band to sleeve October 5, 2015. My daughter Alexandra is scheduled for surgery with Dr. Illian June 6. I had mine done in the states but she is 17, three months shy of 18. And not only will my insurance not cover it because she's not 18 the hospitals won't do it if I pay cash, if they are board-certified because of their insurance, until she's 18. She'll be a senior in high school next year and really can't take the time off after she turns 18 to get the surgery done. So I'm going to direct her to this thread so she and you and others here on this platform can get to know one another and talk about upcoming life-changing experience.

Pains waking me up at night?

no but what is revision from gastric plication ? PLEASE
  4. Hi guys! I was sleeved on April 19th. It was a revision from a gastric plication that I had complications with. It's now day 6, and in general I feel pretty good.. I am having one weird symptom though that is really worrying me. I still have general stomach pain that feels like it's my stomach healing up where they sliced.. But, once in a while, I am getting a really strong stabbing/burning pain. It comes on suddenly and it especially happens around 4am-6am when I am asleep. Wakes me up out of a dead sleep! And it keeps on happening intermittently until I sip on something. I have noticed that if I have some Soup or Water, it helps, but it's very painful and frustrating. I am so scared it's a leak!??? Maybe it's just stomach acid? Hunger pangs? I don't know! Has anyone else had any experiences like this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Anyone from the AZ?

@@love4life @@Apple85 Hi there How did your surgery go love4life? I live in east Tucson and both my husband and I are patients of Dr.Monash. We have BCBS Fed and hubby was approved really fast. His surgery is May 2 (sleeve). My case was submitted on Thursday (4-21) and I'm a nervous wreck. I have a lap band and want the sleeve. Monash is very very against doing both in one session and that is quite disappointing. I know safety is most important, but I will beg him to do it if I am approved, lol. All the dozens of times I've been in that office, I have never seen Dr. Lovato. I wonder if she does revisions in same surgery. Would love to hear from you both and any other Tucson Bariatric patients. ~Susan

    First 3 days after surgery

I had mine done on the 18th. My surgery was a revision where they removed the band and did the sleeve at one time. I would say the first night I was just achy and sore. Kind of like a mack truck hit me. The meds kept it pretty in check though. Day 2 was pretty much similar but the pain was more annoyance type feeling. Like pulling on the wounds. I came home on day 3 from the hospital and haven't taken pain meds since being there. I have some but never taken them yet. As of today day 5 I would say I hardly have any pain at all. I think most pain came from sudden movement and when I coughed. Stay the course and don't worry so much because even in this short time I have had it I know it will be worth it. Down 12.2 lbs since 5 days ago.

    My Unsuccessful Sleeve

@@k95 You are justified in feeling the way you do about your experience with surgery. I wonder is the sleeve was the correct procedure for you. This is an option to think about. You could try to get a second opinion on a possible revision. During my first lecture from my surgeons office. He explained the sleeve surgery first was designed for the super morbidly obese. The sleeve was the first stage until their weight was low enough for a malabsorption procedure. (Duodenal switch or roux en Y Bypass.) I can never walk in your shoes to know exactly what you are going through with this. I wish you the best. Jenn

    To much weight loss

I have been in maintenance from a sleeve to bypass revision since January. I am currently 7.8 pounds below my target weight. I am not trying to lose more it just happened. I beleive my body will know when I have gotten to its' set point.
  10. Wow that weight loss to me is awesome!!! I'm getting ready for revision and I don't remember losing a thing close to that in so short of time. Reading those that have lost 17-20lbs a month scares me a little actually, even though I know for surgery it could be a person short term normal. I've never lost that much so quickly. You sound be proud of yourself. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I had sleeve to bypass revision and considering I weighed much less I lost I beleive at a quicker rate. I see you are eating oats for breakfast; during the wieght loss phase I would never have eaten such a high carb food plus it does not satiate you protein does. Stick with higher protein meals and maybe your weight loss will increase. Oh same with beans I didn't have any beans until I reached my goal weight. Now I am 7.8 punds below my goal wieght and I do eat beans!
  12. @@Pinkgirl1234 You are doing fantastic! It took me 18 months to lose 147lbs. There were some months in the very beginning where I lost about 20 but there were many many months where I lost less than 10 lbs. in fact I had a couple of months where I lost less than 5. I did not have a revision went straight for bypass. I think the great thing about losing it a bit slower is that you really are forced to be very diligent about your diet which builds very good longer term habits. At least that is what I have told myself. My husband and children point how my choice of food has changed for the better. My youngest son who is very fit has even learned some great habits from me. He worked hard at staying fit before but has learned better nutrition from me. Who would have thought I could teach good nutrition? I was 310lbs and malnourished! I think the slower you lose, the more you are forced to focus on your behaviors. Now I am just hoping to learn to maintain. I have not figured out my sweet spot yet. Best of luck to you but you really are doing fantastic!
  13. I haven't had my revision yet, but I would expect the cravings to still be there after surgery, as I have heard many patients say that "they operated on my stomach not brain", brain still wants to do what it had been doing, that's why we have to change our way of looking at food/ relationship with food and learn to make different choices for life so we don't fall back in those bad habits and end up regaining the weight. I know it's easier said than done and i know it's a battle we have to fight all our life. How are you feeling overall? Have you lost anything with the pre op diet? I think 10 lbs being 8 days out is still great! Overall I feel okay. Just incision area became red and really itching. My pre op diet lost about 9 pounds

    Returning to work

When I had the sleeve, I had it done on a Thursday and went back to work Monday with no issues. The low energy didn't kick in until I was 3 weeks post op. I'm doing the same thing with the revision, having it done Thursday and returning Monday, and I don't have a desk job Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Band to bypass

This is probably TMI, but I had my revision from band to RNY on April 1. I had a gi bleed afterwards and had to get a blood transfusion. I'm doing fine now. I'm on the blended/pureed stage for eating. I'm getting about 60 grams of Protein in. Drinking Water about 40-60 oz. per day. My question is, dis any of you experience diarrhea afterwards? It's usually 2-3 times per day. Just curious if this gets any better. Thank you. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

Hi all, I'm scheduled for May 13 ( hope I can still join the group since I am revision from band to bypass) I am supposed to start 2 weeks liquid diet on 28th (my dr requires it for all patients)... Not looking forward to it.

    Its happening! Now! Aahhhh!

Thank you Dasha for your kind response I am a worry wart by nature, but he is 65, diabetic and has other complications. He has never had major surgery, unlike me. So I worry that this will be a really tough surgery for him. Four hours is still a lot of time in the operating room! Yikes! How is your pain level right now? I was just submitted for a band-to-sleeve revision yesterday. I'm scared of everything. Scared of being denied. Scared that when/if my surgeon goes in, he won't sleeve me in the same operation, which is what he does 95% of the time. He is super conservative and likes to do it in two sessions. Ugh, that means two hospital stays, two sets of expenses, two times under general, two times in pain etc. NOT interested in that. I watched so many videos yesterday where the surgeons were doing both in same surgery. These surgeons obviously felt it was safe enough!
  20. OK, so my husband has jumped through all the hoops and has received approval for the sleeve. His date is May 2! Yay for him! Now, I was just submitted yesterday for a band-to-sleeve revision. I am praying I am approved too. Assuming I AM approved and the doctor's office doesn't drop any more last minute surprises at me (that's another story!), do you think our surgeries spaced out 2-3 weeks apart is a good amount of time? Will hubby feel up to taking care of me by then? Time is of the essence right now. My daughter is getting married in August and I have to buy a dress and travel out of state! I need to start losing weight ASAP lol!
  21. I too also had the lapband to gastric bypass revision surgery. My surgery was 8 days ago. Yet I still crave for normal food sometimes. Do you also crave food sometimes? I have lost about 10 pounds since the surgery. But my weight has stalled for two days. I was expecting my weight to drop at a faster rate.
  22. I am eight days out of the revision surgery but I would still sometimes feel hungry in the evening. Is this normal or not? I drink about 70g of premier protein shake each day. When I feel hungry, after drinking two sips of protein shake, it kind of relieve my hunger. I feel worried that I would still want to eat? How does everyone else feel? I have lost 10 pounds since surgery but did not lose any weight in 2 days. I don't know if I am doing something wrong.

    BCBS of MA?

I need to get a revision to RNY from a sleeve, I will have BCBS MA even though I live in Florida. For a revision did they place any requirements on you?
  24. I couldn't get UnitedHealth care to cover my revision. I had 4 surgeons, including the Mayo clinic submit documentmentation saying if I don't have the revision, my risk of esophageal cancer and stomach cancer is at 80%, they still denied me. I'm paying out of pocket.
