What can I do with...Protein powder?
jane13 replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in Food and Nutrition
@@Inner Surfer Girl - I add Protein powder to yogurt (1/2 scoop is generally 13-15grams of protein and about 60 calories to a 13 gram protein and 80 calorie yogurt works out pretty good for about a 1/2c of food. I have add the flavored French vanilla to plain oatmeal and SF hot cocoa, and the chocolate to coffee. I did add some French vanilla to gingerbread I made about 2 months ago, no one noticed Where did you get the protein pudding? I tried some from GNC (ick). -
I can drink a lot water with no choke
Bufflehead replied to dididada22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Water and other liquids go right through your pyloric valve. There is nothing about the sleeve surgery that per se will restrict liquid intake. That's why most surgical teams caution against drinking your calories once you get away from a mostly liquid diet -- you could sit around and drink frappucinos and milkshakes all day and gain weight rather than lose it! The reason many people struggle with liquids in the first days and weeks after surgery is because of the swelling and trauma caused by the surgery. If you aren't experiencing that, it means you have an excellent, skilled surgeon who did meticulous work AND that you are lucky because your body heals itself very quickly. So, be happy, this is a good thing, not a bad thing. I promise you, you'll feel restriction when you move on to real solid foods (probably not puree consistency foods like yogurt or poached eggs though). -
For those of you on a full Fluid diet I discovered this today and it's like a desert yummmm... plain Greek yogurt mixed with low fat low sugar Jello and mix in some benefibre. Perfect Breakfast lots of Protein and tastes delish

I'm in the process of trying to add protein powder to much of my normal food. My favorite right now is 1 cup of frozen fruit, 1/2 c Greek yogurt, stevia to taste, and 2-3 scoops protein powder. Put it all in a food processor and blend away. I divide it into 5 individual serving dishes with lids and then freeze. You get fiber from the fruit and the protein. I also drink 2 syntrax nector drinks per day giving me 46 g of protein. I aim for 100 - 120 g per day.

Is anyone's goal weight higher than the BMI chart weight?
Airstream88 replied to her1981's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My NUT has given me the following guidelines to aspire to prior to surgery: 4 - 5 mini meals a day, eaten every 3 - 4 hours (no snacking in between) At least 3oz lean Protein or protein snack (yogurt) at each meal 2 servings of fruit 2- 3 servings good FAT (1oz nuts, olive oil, avocado, etc) 2 servings of carbs (multigrain bread, brown rice, etc) unlimited servings of non-starchy veggies. 64 oz non-caffeinated, non calorie beverages She says to should eat either a fruit or carb with each protein meal. If I am hungry between meals, I can add more protein. So far I have lost 5 pounds in two months of semi-following this plan. I am suppose to lose ~25lbs prior to surgery. This plan is supposedly preparing me for life after WLS - getting used to eating small amounts many times a day with protein being the primary food group. My NUT is not a proponent of the No-Carb rule. -

Struggling with losing weight prior to surgery
mlgok replied to mlgok's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was really struggling with it too and then i realized how much I truly want this. So this is my daily food intake. Breakfast - premier Protein shake Snack- Dannon fit and light yogurt Lunch- Premier Protein shake and a just for one serving of broccoli and cheese. Dinner- chicken or lean meat with a small serving of fat free refried Beans and broccoli. The premier Protein shakes are amazingly cheap and don't taste awful. I got a 12 pack at SAMs for 14.00 And the Dannon light and fit yogurts are so good and have lots of protein. My favorites are banana cream, salted caramel and key lime Do this and I PROMISE you will lose. Drink tons of Water as well! -

2goldengirl replied to Barry W's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only four weeks postop, so anything grain isn't on the near horizon for me, but my surgeon and RD also recommend the balanced approach. Right now I'm getting between 40 and 50 gm/day of carbs, from either refried Beans, yogurt, or cottage cheese - plus the Premier Protein has 5 carbs. Overall I'm only getting in between 600 and 700 calories a day. I'm not eliminating carbs because I need what glycogen I have. The beans are a great source of fiber for me, I'm able to get in 10 gm of fiber a day, which means I do not have postop constipation as many do. I know some surgeons strongly advocate a no/low carb approach, but I'm grateful that my surgeon and RD think otherwise. I'm a big believer in balance as being sustainable for me for the long haul. -
Who else got sleeved on the 28th of march?
CheckerCorgi replied to elaina831's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had glue instead of strips and it is coming off. Completely off on a couple of incisions but they are healed so it is okay. Still don't see my surgeon until next Tues and I am supposed to stay on full liquids (not even yogurt) until then. I will be slow glad to be able to add a bit more texture. I really feel like I am already ready but I won't take chances and will wait for the doc's okay. Feeling good overall though and down 25lbs since my first consult so happy about that! I was sleeved on 3/23 so I'm on soft foods now. This morning I ate a yogurt but I still felt hunger pains. Shouldn't I be full after eating that? I'm also very tired all the time absolutely no energy at all. This has to get better! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Let me preface this by saying 1. Yes I do measure everything - EVERY THING. 2. I am only 1wk post op 3. My Dr. Saw me on day 5 and moved me up to pureed food bc I am handling my liquids so well. Now that is out of the way - I am not feeling "fullness" or I don't think I am...I am supposed to eat 1.5oz pureed Protein and then till I'm comfortable ... I am able to eat 5oz pureed without any I'll effects....6 usually makes me feels a little tightness behind my belly button which may just be gas pains but I always stop at 4/5 oz. I'm worried because I know "numbness" can cause you not to feel full and I am worried about expanding my pouch. I am able to drink & eat with no nausea ...I get my protein in no problem. Typical day for me - 9am ---- 8oz hot tea +1 TBSP applesauce (for my potassium) 10am ----8oz fat free milk + Protein powder 11am-----8oz Water 12am-----8oz water 12:30-----4-5 oz tuna/egg/light Mayo pureed 1:30----8oz water 2:30---- 8oz water 3:30---- 8oz fat free milk 4:30-----5oz triple zero Greek yogurt with protein powder blended 5:30-----8oz water 6:00-----4/oz blended egg/tuna/light Mayo 7:00 ----- 8oz water 8:00 ----- 8oz water 8:30 (sugar free popsicle) sometimes if I feel the need to snack and I can't shake it. Avg calorie intake is 720-860, protein is 92-113 carbs are 45-60 and sugar is 15-25 per day? I feel like I am eating so much??? Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App

Premier Protein Shakes New Flavor!
kaitlynm replied to nicksmommy's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I make strawberry banana protein frozen yogurt. Target sells frozen strawberries and bananas and I put a cup in with 1/2 c Greek yogurt, 2 scoops protein powder, and a little stevia in a food processor. They are pretty hard when frozen so I put them in individual dishes that I can microwave for a few seconds before eating. It is really good. -

I hear ya! I have 14 days all liquid then ANOTHER 7 days of non clear liquid, which includes yogurt. I think my doc may be crazy 21 days liquid!!! -
I wish I would've asked the same question. Started puree today. Came home and family had potatoes with their dinner so I pureed that with protein powder and Greek yogurt to add more protein. Thinned it out and it was great!! However, no going to be eating to many potatoes in the future!

What signs should I look for to know I'm full?
numeby2017 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just ate almost an entire 5.3 oz container of yogurt 10 days post op, don't think I really got a full feeling from it yet, is this bad? Should I have been able to eat that much this soon? Are there signs I should look for to know I'm full? Guess I'm not feeling the restriction I expected, but maybe it's cuz it's yogurt not solid food? I've also noticed that sipping drinks is getting easier and easier now too, don't feel it sitting in my chest like I did right after surgery last week. So I don't know what signs to look for now. -
I am also scheduled for 4/28!!! I found out yesterday and screamed with excitement in his office! Lol. I walked out and his staff was smiling and laughing at me. I have to start a liquid diet on 4/15. I have to have 3 shakes a day- he wants me to us the NY Bariatric ones and then I can have an egg or yogurt or cottage cheese (which I hate) between meals so he said to eat low fat ricotta instead. I have a 90 minute class to go to on the 11th where I expect to get more info. No vitamins for me until after surgery.

I like the Kroger Carbmaster yogurt as well, but it has artificial sweeteners.

OMG! No raw pureed food in the puree stage post op ...
Inner Surfer Girl replied to OzRoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to read the labels on baby food very carefully. Some of it has a lot of carbs. I didn't have a puree phase (just soft food), but it is fairly easy to eat regular, adult soft or puréed food without resorting to baby food. Think: Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, ricotta bake, etc. -
I can't stand Gu, truthfully it makes me want to hurl. I use Clif Shot Bloks (which were recommended by my surgeon, who is a runner). On any run over 4 miles, I eat one blok every 2-2.5 miles. They have the consistency of gummy bears and I can either chew them or let them dissolve slowly in my mouth (followed up with water/gatorade in both instances, which helps to break them down). I really don't vary my eating on long run days. I start my morning with overnight oats, including a half container of greek yogurt, a tablespoon of Peanut Butter, and a 1/3 cup of milk. The oats give me some sustained energy. My surgeon recommended a bonk bar or Quest bar for mid run energy, but they land in my stomach like lead, so I carry a single serving of Teddy Grahams (while I stay away from most processed foods, when discussing training with my NUT and surgeon, they both agreed it was a good option. They have some Protein and are mostly carbs that converts easily into energy, mid run). I also carry a pack of Justin's nut butters. They're easy to get open and suck down on the run. Finally, the week of a long run (actually, not when I'm doing training runs, but only for the race itself) I tend to increase carbs. I usually keep my carbs between 40-50g a day, on a race week, I double that (closer to race day) by eating extra servings of oats, bananas, nut butters, etc. When I stick to that plan, it works for me. I will say, that I've never run a marathon (but have run a handful of 1/2s) so maybe someone with more distance experience can give you a clearer picture. Good luck!

Fatigue 6 weeks post op
JamieLogical replied to InnerFitnessModel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's definitely not enough calories! No wonder you are tired. I made sure I was up over 800 a day before I started working out. I could only eat about 3 oz. of food at a time too. The key is to eat at least 5-6 times a day. For me, once I was cleared for solid foods, my day looked like this: Breakfast: Protein Bar/Shake Morning Snack: String cheese Lunch: 2-3 oz. of meat Afternoon Snack: Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt (I would add a little granola if this was a cardio day) Dinner: 2-3 oz. of meat Evening Snack: Protein Bar/Shake I always work out after work, so my afternoon snack was my "pre-workout" snack. Which means I would like to throw a few carbs in there to help fuel my workouts. It was usually a little granola or Kashi Cereal mixed into my yogurt. -
When ever I would read crazy posts about what people were eating right after surgery I thought it must be trolls. Surely their surgeon would send them with some specific diet instructions. Today at my 1 week post op nutrition class, one guy (who had the same surgeon as me so I know he got a million handouts and talks about what and when to eat) told everyone what he had been eating (keep in mind should have been Clear liquids only), the NUT's jaw dropped. In fact she went and called the surgeon to come over and meet him before class was out. They might be real people...with decent surgeons... mind blown. I am slow to move to full/semi liquid stage that I could have started a few days ago as my sleeve is still tempermental. Tomorrow I will start 1/2 ounce of Greek yogurt... maybe.
