    First Nsv For Me!!!

Ok...so I know this is probably the lamest NSV ever, but it amused the hell out of me so I thought I'd share. One of my favorite ways to unwind after a long day is with a hot bubble bath. Been super crazy busy for the last few weeks so I haven't been able to have one. Last night I finally made the time and started the Water. Apparently it had been longer than I thought, because when I got in the tub I realized that my butt no longer touches both sides of the tub!!! Woo hoo!! I actually have room, like 3 inches, on both sides!!! Made my whole day.... Thanks for listening, Kelly

    A Good week

Awesome NSVs!! Congratulations. I actually use my belt along with my scale to measure my progress. I have one of those navy belts that are adjustable. I use the eye loop in my pants and shorts as a guide on my inches lost. My belt barely fit me before and now it is almost to my back.

    Weight loss

One of the hardest things (and there are many) that I'm finding is to NOT compare your losses with anyone else. It will outright depress you. Everyone's different. Me? I'm going through my first MAJOR stall and it's killing me lol. I lost 34lbs by my 6 week post op, so I was thrilled... but I'm about 2 months and a week or so post op now and I've only lost a total of 8lbs this past month compared to the first month (down a total of 42 now). But for the last 3 almost 4 weeks id been fluctuating bad. I try to weigh myself every Friday. For a couple weeks of this stall I actually gained a couple lbs (so I was back towards 249-250), but today I weighed myself again and I'm back at 245. So it's this dumb up and down a lb here and there stall. I've upped my protein, upped my water intake...still stall. I'm praying it'll pass (I hear everywhere it will) but it's horrrrrrrrible. Just try to stay away from the negatives and focus on non scale victories. For example, I've been going to the gym for the past 3 weeks and that also can account for a stall (maybe im not increasing water enough, maybe it's muscle mass, who knows)..but also for the first time yesterday I bought a shirt in an XL. Dude, I used to wear 3x t shirts all the time...before surgery (and some post op) i was confortably wearing 2x's. Some still fit, other's look frumpy cause they were too big but a 1x/xl type shirt was still too snug so i was inbetween sizes. Now, I can't wear comfortably ALL xl/1x shirts...but I did buy 2 that fit nicely and look awesome. HUGE NSV! Focus on those...they'll help you mentally get through these rough periods.

    NSV

Yesterday I went to the hospital to have my yearly mammagram and breast ultrasound. I also had my first bone density scan. The lady called me in, showed me the room where to undress in and showed me the white robe to put on. My surprise came when I put on the robe and it fit with extra room. I was able to wrap it and tie the belt. It felt soooo good, not to have to ask for a larger robe. Also when I had the bone density scan, the technician took a picture of my lapband around my stomach for me. What a great picture. I love my lapband for helping me to lose over 100 lbs in 10 months. My one year anniversary is 9/22/11.

    Loss for words

JoJo; I suggest you just review the NSV (non scale victory) & VSG Success Stories for the next two days. That will keep you happy. This is sudden, but most of the pre-ops here would love to be in your shoes rather than up to a 6 month wait. Keep smiling!
  8. Hi Guys, I wanted to share a huge NSV for me today. I spent the day with my 14 year old son at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. We had a wonderful time. I was able to ride on all the rides with him. This has been a long journey for me. I'm down 78 lbs from my high 2 years ago. And while I was just banded last June and I'm down 52 lbs I really would like to lose another 50 this year. Its been really hard on me and I just pray I can continue to grow in this journey. I started to exercise again this week in the hopes of continuing to lose the weight. I know how you all feel when I tell you how much it means to me to no longer use a seat belt extender, walk 2 on a treadmill or not be able to ride an amusement park ride. I can honestly say I am happy to report I can do all 3 now. Julie
  9. what an inspiration. I am only 2 months out but already seeing NSV's.
  10. It's been 1yr 8 mos since I was sleeved and I thought it was time I let everyone know how my life has changed since having the sleeve done. I'm at a comfortable weight, I fluctuate between 146 & 148 pounds. I wear a size 8 to 10 (from a 3X). I have loose skin everywhere, but it has tightened up somewhat. The major things that have changed for me.. 1) Self-confidence. My weight is not the 1st thing people see when they look at me now. I am no longer embarrassed by how I look. 2) Strength. I have always been a little bit of a tomboy and I have been doing a lot of physical work and playing that I was NOT able to do in the years before the surgery. My arms are truly buff! I love to make a muscle! I feel like I'm in my 40's again! 3) sleep Apnea. Gone. No more machine. I sleep like a baby! 4) Clothes shopping. I can go in any store and find something in my size. Small thing but SO NICE!!! Now it is a treat to get new clothes! I can where my younger sisters clothes now. She was always the skinny one. Now she's worried I'll have a smaller butt than hers!!! 5) Sex. Positions I was not able to do before. Need I say more? 6) Knee pain. Much better now. Probably 90% improvement. I can run down stairs now. Downside? 1) I still have to take my antacid every day. But that may be exacerbated because I drink too much coffee. 2) I miss the way I used to be able to drink Water. I could down 8 ounces in a few gulps. I still can't try to make food or water go down quickly. 3) I still can't drink much carbonated stuff. I miss Pepsi a little, but I can still sip at it. 4) I can't think of any more downside things. That says a lot. You haven't heard much from me because I'm just busy living my life! All of the post-surgery discomforts and liquid diets are behind me. I still have NSV's all of the time. I am absolutely delighted with my life since the sleeve. The picture is from the summer. My hubby and I spent a lot of time working outside and on hot days, I would just wear a sports bra. Lookin' good!
  11. I think my Ah Ha NSV moment came back about a year and a half ago when I could buy cheap $8 pack of underwear from Walmart. I knew then that I was now officially out of the Big & Tall stores only when it came to shopping for clothes. Now I am in suites, something that I think I wore maybe three times in almost 20 years, I've worn at least five times this year alone and we're aren't even in month number five yet out of the year. I have two custom tailored suites now, I hope by the end of the year I'll have at least five more to give me a suite for every day of the week. My next few NSV, which I am sure I can do now: Is to buy a complete from head to toe outfit from American Eagle or Abercrombie and Fitch. Outdoor Bike Trail Riding for 10 to 15 miles Do a photo-shoot. (Both clothing and nude photo-shoots. I have a bunch of photographer friends that will gladly do glamor shots of me) Actually attempt to do a 5K run. (Maybe in the fall)
  12. @@Essence46 nice to see you again my friend i've missed you - really!!! Protein is essential drinking the shakes is good you should/need to eat foods that have protein (i know you can) (ie chicken, tuna fish) you know the drill Pllllease drink more Water it amazing (to me) the benefits of water start today and keep track of ALL your food (ie MFP) everything you put in your mouth!!! at any time!!! put in computer be honest with yourself put everything down in ie MFP usually when you see/realize how much you eat you might say "OMG i ate all thattttt"?? anything i tell you, and others say you already know you need to follow i know you can do it i always have had confidence in you you can't change yesterday today is a new day fresh start immediately (not tomorrow) you said earlier you are "trying not to be discouraged" do or do not - there is no try!!!! (Yoda) kudos on seeing your doc sometimes when people are having problems haven't been doing so well, even gained they don't want to "face" their doc/or NUT good for you that you are addressing the problem right on "knowing you have a problem, is 1/2 the battle" (something like that) good for you being "brave" and coming back to BP my name is kathy - and i am addicted to BP!! you'll be reminded of what/how certain things can/need to be done get encouragement from others see other success stories, or problems your NSV for the day is coming back to the board!!! Hi folks! Be gentle I'm a newbie!

@@startinganewme - Enjoy the ride. Terms to know: NSV - non-scale victory Stall - the inevitable point where you body catches up on fat loss and readjust your metabolism and causes you angst for a few weeks thinking you are doing something wrong. Stalls happen, don't sweat it. Hormone Rush - Since hormone's are stored in fat, you might get some strange emotions or urges you have never felt before. It's normal, but it may explain why you want to have sex more often, in strange places, with strange people. Panic Points Not pooping for a week to 10 days post surgery. Ehm, it will all come out in the end. You will worry, but don't. New attention from people, which may bum you out because you feel like the same person, but people are treating you differently. Eventually you will find your new normal and the feeling passes. I'm sure others can add to the list. Congrats.

The "You don't need WLS" talk

Indoor soccer rocks...my winter 4 on 4 league starts tonight Two different therapists will never see another dime from me (or a minute of conversation either) because they claimed that counseling would work better than surgery. One of them also claimed that counseling would be better than taking my meds (for anxiety and depression). While I did not give either one a second look, the one who criticized the surgery currently bears the brunt of my anger. I don't think it's entirely coincidental that I now see an overweight therapist who has thought about the surgery himself. I have been lucky to have had a pretty supportive general response pre-op. My best friend cannot be counted in that group, but since I went ahead with it she has been invaluable to me and incredibly loyal, as well as positive towards the surgery. Slight NSV today...albeit humiliating...I was told by HR I need new pants because I've lost too much weight...and a new belt. The reprimand was followed by a suggestion that WLS was not a good idea. I went from scared to just plain weirded out.
  19. Hello everyone I just want to stop in and give an update of my progress. Well as you see in my topic I have lost 116 pounds so far. This has been an amazing journey this far. There have been some challenging times but I am greatful for them all because they teach me as I have been going through this journey. I have went from a size 30/32 I am currently in a size 22 and they are baggy!!! :-) I hope you can feel the excitement I feel. I am no longer on water pills. I cannot sleep with my sleep apnea machine because the pressure is to strong and it dries me out. My knees don't hurt anymore. I have enery to workout and play with my kids. I work with the public, and ALL of my customers notice it. Some of my vendors walk in and have not seen me in months and they don't realize it is me until i speak to them!! This has been an exciting time in my life... I am so greatful to God for this blessing that he has given me! :-) So as you see I have several NSV's but those are the ones I remember as I am typing. I want badly to upload pictures but I don't know how. Don't judge me... LOL LOL. SO if someone could tell me how and I will upload some progress pictures forn you guys to see. I am sooooooooooooooooooo (overboard with the o's) excited and overjoyed about my results this far. By the way my surgery date was August 25, 2011.

    gaining weight! :-(

Get rid of that scale. Do it now. Hide it, throw it away....I don't care what you do but stay off it. You know just by what you wrote, that there are reasons why you shouldn't focus on the numbers, so why do it? Just follow your doctor's instructions, do what you know you need to do, and the weight will come off. I promise. Look for the NSVs instead of what you weigh. Those are better than any number on a scale. Please...you are just starting out and this is a lifelong journey. No need to sabotage yourself right out of the gate.

    Is it really possible???

Yay Jenna - well done! NSV's are great but ya can't beat the ol' SV's for that happy feeling!

    People Are Balloon Bursters

Oh Coops that is an awesome nsv, and sort of a fantasy of mine, to have a third party call out my thinness!! That friend of mine that I've talked about, the personal trainer who is lean and athletic and has her phd in nutrition and metabolism, is JUST like the one who gave you the trousers, constantly talking about her "tummy", look how much bigger I was in this photo ... about how fat she feels. I know it is all a desperate teenage girl (she's 31) method of gleaning compliments - how insecure is that?! I just go silent when she does it, I do not give her what she wants, I will not feed the beast.

    NSV for me!

So today I had the pleasure of having my hubby's company on my run(I run when he's at work usually) Both kids are at school so we had a nice time joking just being fun! Well we got home and he took this funny picture of me and I said hmmm "I want to put this on FB but look at my fat stomach!" Well after 10 seconds of soul searching I realized "screw that, to others it may look like fat/flab, but to me it's the loose skin I have to show for all my hard work, I'm gonna post that dang picture and not care what others think!" HUGE VICTORY for this over critical self doubter(which is actually why I bought the shirt, the caption aimed at my own self deprecating self! Today I tagged my 6'2" hubby in that picture bc his 5' tall wife not only kept up, but she out ran him! Yayyyy! Thank you sleeve for giving me a chance at life again!

    Nsv!!!

Those are all great NSV's, I am so happy for you. I am always telling my band that it's ok and it doesn't need to cry, I am aware it is there, I am the opposite of everyone else, I gurggle when I am hungry.~Mandy
