    Stall out and depressed

I am experiencing my first stall and heading into week 3 of it. Very frustrating! As a fellow Bipolar I can't emphasize enough how important your meds are especially with the stress of a stall AND moving. Do you have a therapist you can vent this all out to that can help you gain some perspective and air out your fears? I don't know where I would be without mine. I hope this helped! Melly
  2. Hi everyone!😁 I'm Melly. I'm married with a teenager and a preteen. I've had trouble losing weight since my mid 20's, I'm in my 40's now. Just couldn't keep it off. Each time I failed a little more would stay on. I have PCOS, Diabetes, COPD and Asthma among other things but my weight made those worse. Climbing over 300lbs and have no quality of life was my line in the sand. I had my RNY surgery on June 7th (I can't figure out how to put that in my profile). I started my pre-op liquid diet on May 27th. I've lost 50lbs since then and I can't believe my mobility and energy. My goal is 160lbs. I have 100lbs to go. I know it's a journey and that RNY is just a tool but for the first time in a long time I feel like I have a chance. Right now I am in the middle of my first stall. I was really down on myself at first but continue eating correctly,in the past I would've gone for junk to self soothe but won't because I'm afraid of dumping. I finally called my doctors office and they explained that I stalled and it was natural and would happen 3-4 more times over the year. It started on July 3rd. I'm staying the course but it is a little frustrating that it hasn't broken yet. So thats me in a nutshell. I'm excited to get to know everyone and already appreciate the answers this board has given. Thanks! Later! Melly💋

    Ugly, boring, and weak

a lot of people (most, actually) have a 10-20 lb rebound gain during year 2 or 3 - so if you haven't had that yet, it may help with the drawn look. Also, things sort of shift around after your body settles in at your new weight, so that also helps. Although I also lost over 200 lbs and looked older (well, probably more my age, since I looked younger than I was when I was fat). But I ended up having a face/neck lift, esp since I didn't like my turkey neck. it sounds like you're overly obsessed with your weight and eating. I've been accused of that as well, and I've backed off a bit - although since doing that, it's been harder to keep my weight in check. It's gone up a bit more, but it's still acceptable (well, at least to my PCP and my surgeon - personally, I'd rather be 10 lbs lighter than I am now). But I think I'm in a better place stress-wise since I'm not so obsessed with my weight and eating. I agree with some of the posters above that maybe it would help to work with a dietitian and therapist...

    Eating ritz reduced fat crackers

I was allowed melba toast because its crispy and they dissolve in your mouth. I had them with pate and things like squished egg mayonnaise. These tiny melba toasts were 42 cals for 3. If I could give you some advice, I would say eat the crackers as part of your meal and not as a snack.
  5. Ok so this is my third week post op and even though my diet plan doesn’t mention anything about crackers I have been eating ritz reduced crackers and my stomach is taking them really well. I am not munching on them but I had about 4-5 crackers today. I don’t know if I should be guilty? Or is eating crackers normal at the soft food stage? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just want to eat 😓

I do love cooking for others. Ive thought about trying to learn to cook really well, like culinary classes or something so i can cook quality- learn to make good food i make a lot of throw together meals but if i learned to make high quality meals from scratch it would keep me busy and i would be doing something i enjoy. i used to draw, i drew really well but ive lost my technique and just dont have time anymore it seems. I work a very demanding work from home animal rescue job. I work from the time i wake until I go to sleep on call 7 days a week. I also have 3 small children. im only 2.5 months out so early for these kind of urges i think 😩

    Wish you knew before surgery…

That you will stall and you need to just keep on going. You haven't messed up, you're not doing anything wrong (as long as your following doc's instructions), you haven't failed, this is just your body resetting. People on a regular diet plan losing 1lb a week stall, so imagine how panicked or brain is after 5-10lbs! Your body is just getting everything balanced back out for the new you.

    I really hate stalls!!!!!

I feel your pain. I've been stalled since July 3rd. I called my doctor's office on July 8th to make sure everything was OK and his nurse called me right back to say yes and explained I was in a stall and they were expected and I'd have more throughout my weightloss journey. I could've cried y'all! I was getting so knotted up thinking once again I failed (where it was supposed to be almost impossible if I follow the plan and i have been strict!) and it was all hopeless only to find out this is normal body stuff. It's resetting itself. I was so relieved. They really should put that in the pre-op literature🤪. I have been guilty of daily weighing but am now weighing on Friday. I had my surgery on June 7th. Later, Melly

    2nd Day Post Op

Yes! The dr said to drink room temp, warm, hot only for the first week because if cold, it causes construction inside. Makes sense. So I went ahead and drank a cold Premier Protein shake and was fine. I am so hungry!!

    June 2022 surgery buddies

Hey all! I had DJB-S on June 29. Recovery has been a little rough. I can’t stand most protein shakes/drinks since surgery and I’m having some trouble getting my clear liquids in everyday. That means I’ve been in the infusion center a few times for IV fluids, so that I don’t dehydrate. I can tolerate some foods just fine (yogurt, oatmeal, cottage cheese) and others don’t agree with me at all (tuna and salmon). I’ve not been as active as I think I should be, but I’m pretty weak. I’m hoping this week I will be able to turn a corner. Shoot me some tips and tricks about proteins. I hope you’re all doing well!
  12. I can't believe this is me less than 45 days ago as I was starting my liquid diet. Now I'm week 4. Wow Sent from my SM-G781U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first

As of today, I have officially dropped a full clothing size!!!! The scale isn't moving again (hello stall #2) but I dropped from a size 26/28 to a size 22/24. WHAT??!?! I literally cried. I can't believe I'm sitting here in size 22/24 clothes. Right now. I also went out to dinner with my husband last week and we sat at a booth and my stomach wasn't smooshed against the table. I had space there!!! Again...WHAT?!?!?

    I really hate stalls!!!!!

It seems like when I work out more, I stall. So I was trying to just stay with what I had, and I'm still stalled. So now I'm going to ease my work outs and just walk. Hopefully that will help.

Trying to get out of my head....

That's what I'm seeing, too. It seems like when I work out more, I stall. So I was trying to just stay with what I had, and I'm still stalled. So now I'm going to ease my work outs and just walk. Hopefully that will help.

Trying to get out of my head....

I know exercise should be part of the routine but everytime I tried to incorporate more intense workout, I used to stall. So I kinda gave it a rest and relied mostly on my 45 mins of daily walk for exercise purposes. So may be, go easy on the workout routine especially this early in the weight loss phase. Once you're more settled with a certain number you can always build your physique as long as your mindset is on point. For me personally, stalls pressured into negative thinking of *what if this is it* and I won't lose anymore. Or that I'll lose slowly and then bam done losing at a weight I am uncomfortable with. This fear always hovered about and I didn't want to work against my sanity. So I decided to take lose with intense workouts. And focused mostly on eating and losing. I am at a happy place for now. And once I have reached about 120, my mindset will be so much better to form a good workout routine even if I had to up my calories. Bottom line is, try easing your workout routine.
  17. Thanks Summer . My original price for the op was £11,000 but it went up to £13,800 for the cost of having the hiatus hernia repaired at the same time .In fact I did consider just having the op and no repair but he said he couldn't do one without the other .He told me it would only cost slightly more - maybe in his world ! an extra 3 grand is a lot ! I am still thinking about Spire ......... thanks x

I just finished 3 days clear liquids and I was able to drink premier protein clear and Gatorade zero protein. I don’t use protein powder at all.

    July 2022 peeps!

I thought ketosis flu was more the first week? I am having the sleeve done. I really hope It gets better soon
  20. Hi Bebaeg, Thank you so much for asking. I had my revision on May 9. I’ve lost 33-ish pounds. I get stuck in the middle of the next 10 pounds, so right now I’m fluctuating between 264 and 266. When I first stalled, I realized that I was severely constipated. I’m finding that that happens a lot. Unfortunately, the solution leads to the opposite problem of diarrhea. 🙄 I’m grateful for what I’ve lost, but it’s still frustrating.

    July 2022 peeps!

@KevinS62 @HealthierMe2022 @MsGina thanks for the updates! Glad everyone seems to be on the mend and it’s nice to have this thread to go through this together. Day 3 post op for me today, first day of full liquids so I am going to start with a protein shake. But I’m a bit scared! No idea why because I’ve been able to swallow just fine and take a full size Tylenol without any trouble. still a little pain at the top of a deep breath in but it’s better than yesterday and better again than the day before. sleeping propped up is more comfortable but it gives me a headache. Tylenol has thankfully helped with the headache. I’m coming off the tramadol today/tomorrow if all continues to go well. my JP tube is the most annoying thing and I’m very eager to get it out. Like now would be nice but i think that’s going to be Wednesday when I have my follow up.

    July 2022 peeps!

Glad your recovery is going so well. I guess I don't understand why they don't want you using the CPAP. I know all doctor's have different schedules and plans. I was told to bring mine to the hospital when I went in for surgery. I 've had mine for 3-4 years and don't know if I could sleep without it.

    July 2022 peeps!

Day 4 Post Op: surgery was 7/12 and I was on ice chips only until the following day when I had imaging to check for leaks. Since there were no leaks I progressed to full liquid diet. I stayed one more night and was released home on 7/14. Pain is decreasing significantly each day. I've been taking my Norco before going to bed and every so often during the day if sore. My incisions inch like crazy, which is good because it means they're healing. I did have a 100 degree fever the night I came home, but it hasn't increased and I've been monitoring it just in case. Beside the expected discomfort from the incisions, it is really a rather uneventful recovery. The only challenge so far is sleeping since I cannot use my cpap for two weeks post-op and I've been snoring like a lumber jack! But hopefully that, too, will be a thing of the past. I hope everyone else is recovering nicely! Sent from my SM-S908U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    I really hate stalls!!!!!

stalls are very common during weight loss. You'll likely hit several of them along the way. Make sure you're sticking to your program and try to stay off the scale when you hit them. They'll eventually break and you'll be on your way again. Keto "works" right away because carbs hold on to water, so those big drops are water weight (and over time it works because you're taking in fewer calories overall). You're taking in fewer calories NOW, too. The only thing Keto would do would be to let go of water, causing a temporary drop in weight. Water weight doesn't count. Just stick to your clinic's plan.
  25. RNY or VSG? If you had RNY, I would agree with the person above - it's most likely a stricture. They're an easy fix - go to the ER and they'll do an upper endoscopy and stretch it out for you. You'll feel 100% better afterward (I had two of them - they almost always occur 1-3 months after surgery, so you're in the right window of time for one). if you had sleeve, I'm not sure (could be a stricture - but they're not very common in sleeve patients). In any event, I'd go to the ER. People can live for quite awhile without food, but not fluids. You need to get that looked into ASAP.
