Andy here. Me family knicked named me Beamish coz I love it so much. Tis probably me weight gain right there. I'm a farmer, which some people would think being on a farm would help keep the weight down but tis hard. Me wife thinks its the pints. My wife kept giving me rabbit food (salads) and soups for a while but i got sick of it. Didn know there were so many different options to weight loss surgery. Now now, its only a thought in the mind now but still, it is something I need to think about. My doctor said i've a BMI of 43.4 and I should be around 25. No chance o that happening naturally. I'm out of breath just bending down to tie my shoes. I'm going to have to give up my farm if I dont loose weight. i've diabetes II, blood pressure and recently been told ive sleep apnea. my health is getting worse unless sometihin is done.

I was sweating bullets because I knew I had gained a few pounds over the Thanksgiving Holidays after my approval. Between the holiday and a couple of "Last Meals" I had put back on about 5 pounds but I had lost 20 in my 3 month weight loss period. He came in and started off by pointing out the weight gain and asked what was up. I told him and he was cool with it and said I would lose those 5 and several more after my 2 week clear liquids pre-op phase so it wasn't a huge deal to him. Btw, I not only lost those 5 but an additional 10!

Weighing yourself

Being still is important--does your scale record the weight?--I find trying to look down at the results can skew them--mine records so that I just look at after I weigh. -
Weight Gain After Approval
anonbaribabe replied to anonbaribabe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for your response My surgery isn't until next month, so I know that after the pre-op diet I'll definitely be below what I was at my final weight-in. I was maintaining, but I've had a rough few days (death in the family), so I've gotten a little off track. -
Hi all! My surgery is next month and my pre-op appointment is tomorrow. I've gained a few pounds since my last weigh-in a couple months ago. Did any of you gain weight after approval? If so, did it matter? My pre-op appointment is tomorrow, so I'll find out then but I wanted to check in with everyone here to see if anyone else experienced this.

don't worry about gaining weight at this point. you're on liquids at first because your stomach was swollen from the surgery. as the swelling goes down, your stomach basically goes back to it's normal shape and size since you haven't had a fill. seriously... eat while you can because as you start getting fills, that WILL change. the hardest thing i've dealt with over the past 1.5 years since my surgery is the limited portion control. while my stomach is satisfied with 3-4 ounces of food at one meal, my head feels like i haven't had enough. so mine is more of a mental torture than a physical one. i WANT to eat more than a 1/2 slice of pizza. i WANT to be able to eat a bagel. i WANT to be able to eat a normal sized meal instead of 1/2 of a kids meal. good luck on your journey!

How did you decide on your goal weight?
L12 replied to LapNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At first I reasoned that I at least wanted to get to 170; I would still be "fat" but not obese. Then I decided on 160 with the input of my doctor; that later changed to 150 as I was progressing. I'm now one pound away from that, and I am extremely confident that I can get lower and feel comfortable in what I eat and my energy level. At least down to 140, maybe 130? I don't know yet--overall I want to be healthy, but if I can be thin, be a healthy weight, and at a good BMI, I'll go lower. -
Increased exercise and weight gain
btrieger replied to Jess55's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do NOT let a little weight gain frustrate you. Your weight will fluctuate both ways when you change up your routine. How much water are you consuming? If you are not getting enough, your body will start retaining fluid. How much protein are you getting? You should be eating at least 50 grams of protein a day. That is the fuel that keeps you metabolism burning. WW points make sure you keep calories, carbs and fat low but they don't help on protein. -
Feb Sleevers-What Are You Eating?
Dooter replied to Ms. Scarlett's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Jerry, I think that is a VERY normal occurrence for us to have the emotional roller coaster effect after this surgery. I read about it in the packet I was given from the surgeon and in other places. Women get a double dose because the weight loss is kicking all the sleeping hormones back into play. I don't know how men and hormones work, but there could be some of that too. It IS an emotional time for all of us, and it's important to get support for yourself during this time. If your surgery was in the U.S., does your surgeon have a support group? Please seek some kind of local support, even if it's going to see your regular doctor. Please let go of the "guilty" thing. We're past that. This is a NEW life!! If you're only taking in that many calories, there's no need to worry. In fact, you may need a few more! You don't want to kill your metabolism by letting your body slip into starvation mode. Also, exercise is a good combatant for the blues. Hard to do when you feel down, but force yourself to do it. I hope any of this is a help. --danielle -
You cannot cure a herniated or bulging disk from losing weight. You can however make them more tolerable from less load on your spine. Same goes for knees and hips.

I hear ya! I didn't tell anyone about my lap band and I have not told anyone about my sleeve revision. I feel I would be even more misunderstood for the revision because I was barely obese when I went for the revision. Not a lot of people would understand that I needed this surgery to keep me from gaining a ton of weight after I took out the band. To an outsider it might seem drastic, but we each do what we need to do in our lives, right? I know lots of people who have had plastic surgery - nose jobs, face lifts, boob jobs, liposuction, etc. At the most shallow level, I consider this my plastic surgery. It has changed how I look, my health, and how I feel about myself. And, guess what? There is nothing wrong with it. I keep it to myself because I don't need anyone's opinion. I am quite happy with the experience and the results - screw everyone else!
-
I knew you guys would see my point! I like that idea Rev - seems like the "plastic surgery" idea is a good one. Next time that might be my response. I would love to have been a natural beauty - no hair dye, no makeup, hair blowing in the breeze and a perfect body - but that never happened and ain't gonna happen now. I always tried to make up for my weight problem with being a nice person all the time - a people pleaser - there was extremes I wouldn't go to do for my friends and family - but the beauty of aging takes away our need for everyone to love us, as we accept ourselves - others approval seems less important. In making my decision for this revision surgery - it came from a deeper place than my when I had my lapband. I had the surgery in 2003 - I still thought I had a shot at being that wild natural beauty if I was skinny. I had a new husband - would he still love me? I had a one year old? Is that too much for a 41 year old to handle being so fat? In 2005 I my eldest daughter passed away at 23. That was the beginning of growing up for me - and not relying on the outside world to have an opinion of me - everyones view of me always burnt my sensitive self. Sometimes the worst and painful situations - open a new strand in your soul - it makes you tougher and nothing scares me - I don't ponder a minute thinking about "what if" - I now live for this minute while I am here typing - and I feel THAT is the meaning of life. Wow, deep - go Glenda! Anyhow, thanks for all your insightful and intelligent responses. It is nice to share with like minds. Glenda

Then you should be fine. But after the surgery and you lose weight just know your flood gates will open again ah ha ha

Urgent question for maintenance sleevers - help needed
skinnyjeansatlast posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone - I had gastric sleeve surgery 18 months ago and lost 80+ pounds. Life is terrific. However, lately I have really been struggling with my weight, and I am up six pounds from my lowest point. Obviously, I want to nip this in the bud immediately and get my weight back down. I never really adopted regular exercise (I was the girl who failed high school gym; I hate it). My food habits are pretty good - I eat primarily protein, vegetables, fruit and nuts (no sugar or refined carbs) and for the most part, limit myself to three meals and two protein shakes per day. I don't eat large quantities. Why is my weight creeping up? How can I reverse this? I know that metabolism slows after 18 months, but I am very concerned about gaining more weight and ruining the achievement that I have worked so hard for. All help welcomed, here. Thank you. -
Urgent question for maintenance sleevers - help needed
Healthy_life2 replied to skinnyjeansatlast's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Many of us have a weight bounce after goal. Many reasons for it. It may be your body settling into a weight that it's comfortable at. Maintenance for me is...... chasing the same ten pounds up and down. Is your meal plan what you were eating in weight loss mode? You can go back to basics, log food, 60-100g protein low carbohydrate. lots of water. When your body has less fat to burn the weight loss is slow. exercise (i know you hate it) is an option. Even if it's just walking. -
Hunger and working out
Meryline replied to elmatador's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are below target weight, and you want to add muscles, you need to increase your calorie intake. Muscles need calories, and if you don't up the intake, you'll continue to lose. I'm not talking adding 1000 kcal, but 200-300 kcal on days you work out. At this point, being 2.5 years out, I eat 2500-3000 kcal a day (sometimes even more). But I also do endurance sport. I lifted weights the first year post op, now it's mostly mobility work and weights targeted for running. -
I had my surgery on May 7th and am now sitting here at my computer (May 8th) and am feeling pretty good. The gas pains were the worst part of my recovery. I still have them and I have lots of bloat, but I seem to do better after taking 4 of the little Gas-X melt-in-your-mouth tabs. Does anyone have any other suggestions for getting rid of the abdominal gas? I have walked around a lot, did the dishes, did a load of laundry. I'm determined not to be sedentary! Also, I had the realize band. Although I haven't tried, I feel like I could actually eat real food. My doc wants me to be on liquids for 2 weeks, so I'm being faithful to that. I'd love to know any suggestions for liquid foods that you guys are finding appealing. Do you think it'd be okay to eat clam chowder soup if I strained out the good stuff (chunks)? I'm looking forward to losing w/you all!! Weight on surgery day: 204 BMI: 34.5 Height: 5'5" Goal Weight: 150 Age: 44 Surgery: Dr. Manuel Castro in Dallas (New Beginnings Surgical Group)

Actually it was a compliment. It finally happened this week. Twice I was told my clothes looks terrible hanging off of me. OK, I get the hint, maybe it's time to buy a new size. My current pants used to be so tight I had difficulty getting them buttoned but I refused to go up another size. Now I'm the opposite direction with them hanging off of me. Problem is, last year I had decided I was just going to be big for the rest of my life and donated all of my smaller clothes to charity. My wife says she's going to clean out my closet of all of these big clothes and do the same thing. I may have little to choose from. Banding isn't until tomorrow May 11, but I've been a trooper on my weight loss once I decided to get banded. My past problem was I just could never maintain. I hope this goes well and helps control me better.

hi danimal, isnt that a good problem? i love when that happens one mistake i made.... my history was that i would lose a little weight and stay in the new size forever. i went out and bought a complete wardrobe when i went from size 24 to 18. well i flew through size 18. i then did the same thing when i went into size 12....flew through that too. so i couldve saved alot of money if i had just waited good luck on your surgery tomorrow i am having plastic surgery tomorrow so we will be "under" at the same time

I too am worried about loose skin and I am trying my best to prevent it. I have been working out doing cardio and weight training in every workout targeting all my problem areas. I am 22 years old and I am really hoping that age is on my side. My skin has always been fairly tight and I haven't been one of those overweight people with jiggly legs and stuff, so I'm hoping that helps. Also, I have been drinking a lot of Water and moisturizing my skin. I will start exfoliating and dry brushing as well. Good luck to us all!

It could be your weight loss, or not enough protein. I have a thyroid condition and being cold all the time is a indicator of hypothyroidism. People do tend to overlook it but its good to get checked out. It's a simple blood test. I know when my levels are out of whack when I stay cold and have no energy.

I was thinking the same thing this mornig, but not b/c of bears.lol If you have fat on your body and you refuse to feed it, it has to come off. I have lived like a grizzly, sort of, as far as losing 100 lbs and gaining it back. When I was gaining it back, I hibernated, naps & no activity. So we are similar! LOL

Does not eating gain or stop weight loss?
georgie_21uk posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am currently on week 3 post gastric sleeve op and tbh I'm not a massive fan of puree food so been sticking to milk and soup. I've been away for a week so excited to weigh and it was only 1lb yet hardly eating anything. Could not eating enough cause weight loss to slow down?
