  1. Hey, Yes, I will contact my surgeon on Monday, but until then ... Starting yesterday, after I eat anything (cottage cheese, fat free Soup, etc) I have mild to moderate heart burn. I have never had heartburn before (well, maybe a few times in my life, but nothing consistent like this). A few days ago I was eating pureed refried Beans and I ate 1/2 cup and I was very very full after (this was the first time where I have been "over full" since getting the band). Has anyone had anything like this before? Do you think I have an early slip? I am freaking out completely. I was banded 2 weeks ago, and my band is empty. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!
  2. Congrats on putting the surgery behind you You should start seeing weight loss this week. Good luck to you!

    I've fallen off the wagon.

I did awesome on my 2 week pre op but then knowing it was my last full mean for a long long time I went out to Chilies and had way to much to eat. I then went to the Gym to make up for it so it was even. The point is its normal to have slips just fix it when you can and learn from the mistake. I still had my surgery and am doing awesome so far.
  4. I was banded with Plication last Monday, 8/22 and as of this past Monday, 8/29 I lost 16 pounds. I did not have a high BMI going into this either. I don't know about you but I've never in my life lost this kind of weight in one week. I was a self pay and I'm from Pittsburgh. My surgery cost $16,500 which I ended up taking out a personal loan for. In my mind, my health is much more important to me than the cost. Best of luck,
  5. I had lapband surgery 6/27/11 and have lost 46 lbs. I am also working out 4-5 times a week. I have received all my doctor and hosptial bills already. I have BCBS Federal which pays 85%. After the surgery I owed the following: My surgeon = $200 Surgery (includes hospital, drugs, anethesiolgist, etc) = $2700 I know my the hospital bill alone was around $27,000. Hopes this helps. I am so glad I made the decision! I am off my Blood Pressure and Cholesterol medicine already!

    Exercise...twice a day??

Weight/strength training and cardio are 2 different types of exercise. Cardio is for burning fat and strengthening your heart/lungs while weight training is solely to increase muscle mass which will, in turn, help you burn more calories at rest. I cant speak it's effectiveness in raising metabolism, but I do a cardio work out 5 to 6 days a week and add weight training 2 days/week for double exercise on those days. Have you looked into burst training (interval training)? My trainer has me do this when I use the elliptical to help speed up my metabolism and keep it elevated for a longer period after I'm done working out. http://www.draxe.com/burst-training/

    2 Wks Post Op Update

I'm two weeks out today and I feel really good, no pain at all. I'm really surprised how fast I bounced back from the surgery.

    2nd Day back to Work

My first week back to work, I did nothing in the evening, I was exhausted. At the end of the second week, I remember I ran to the grocery andcad I was leaving it hit me that it was the 1st time I had wanted to do something after work. It will get better.

    2nd Day back to Work

I'm 3 weeks post op and still battling fatigue. I hear that the energy returns after around a month so I'm hoping to see that. Right now I come home just exhausted from work.
  11. I can't believe how much weight I've lost and its only been 2 weeks! Although I haven't had much of an appetite I'm finally able to consume about half the amount of my daily protein. Looking forward to not feeling humiliated in a pair of shorts this summer.

Why's my band tighter at different times?

Weird, huh? I was going along just fine, had been about 2 months since an adjustment and BOOM, I couldn't eat, drink, anything. I had pneumonia and even the medicine came back up.... it didn't last but a week.... and I got some really good weight loss from it. I h
  13. For me, it's about what I'm eating, and how fast I'm eating it. If I take bites that are larger than they probably should be, don't chew it thoroughly, and/or eat too fast, just about anything gets sort of stuck. I feel the pressure, then put down my fork and wait till I feel the item move through the band. If I force things, it hurts a lot. Patience when eating is the ongoing skill I have to manage to stay comfortable. I've only had one sliming incident (salsa and chips at a Mexican restaurant - ate too fast, didn't chew enough, things got stuck, and I joined the ranks of those who have been slimed... Surprised me a lot, even though I knew what was happening.) I don't want to go back there again, so I'm much more careful. When I slow down and eat properly, I find I can eat anything. If it's a dense Protein like chicken or steak, after about 3-4 ounces, I'm feeling quite full. I went to Olive Garden the other night with friends, and I ordered the "Steak Toscano" with steamed vegetables instead of potatoes. The 12 ounce steak made three meals for me. Worked well, but the trick was taking very small bites. I use the relative size of a dime as the visual queue. Small bites, chew thoroughly, and take my time. It's working for me. Good luck! Dave

Who Has Been To Mexico Recently For Fills?

I had one fill a year ago at Fill Centers USA and then they closed. I moved to Seattle 6 weeks ago and found a fill doctor. Last Tuesday, he couldn't find my port and suggested we try next Tuesday. I read about leaks and such and talked to him and asked him his liability to me and a leak. He's gonna try next week and if not, I'll get a refund, and go to my original doctor in Mexico for fill # 2.

    So frustrated... need suggestions...

Don't panic yet. I've read that sometimes slips can self adjust with an unfill. Hang onto positive thoughts and I'll be doing the same for you. Hope you are feeling better soon. *big hugs* PS Ten pounds in a week. I am SO jealous!

  17. I HATE STALLS!!! I am almost three weeks out and I believe I was in a stall last week. Week One- 17 pounds Week Two- 0 pounds Week Three- 3 pounds I was so encouraged after that first week, I figured the weight would just start falling off. Not so much, this process is difficult and NOT the easy way out. STAY STRONG!!!

2 weeks post op and FREAKING OUT!

You're not up fat lbs - just water. It's very nerve wracking but try and relax - stress won't help and may actually cause more water retention. It could be a stall (very common) or you may be getting your period, constipated, had too much sodium, not getting az much fluids as usual!
  19. So we are officially 1 week post op. How are ya'll doing? I am pretty darn good, and going to work tomorrow for the first time since surg. Still am having a little feeling of stomach swelling from time to time, but overall way less sore. Lost 13 # on my less than 2 week high protein, low carb diet and have lost 3 more since the day of surgery. I'm happy about that, still on full liquid diet, I think for 1 more week. Good luck to you all and I wish you a speedy recovery and great success.
  20. I will tell you what everyone else told me and still tells me. Give it time. The one thing you will learn going through this journey is that you will have days and weeks where you only lose 1 pound or 2 pounds or none at all. Your body is trying to get use to what you are doing to it and it doesnt understand. It takes a long time for it to catch up but it will come off if you are doing what you are suppose to be doing and exercising and drinking your water. Try and get through the tough times of not losing its hard but you will lose. The biggest thing is to find patients.. Good luck girl you can do this
  21. Ok, to yesterday I went to the Dr for my 2-week check up. Ended up in the hospital overnight for dehydration. Feel 90% better today. Dr also changed me to a soft diet and we talked a little about what that would include, but I need some practical help from those that have been through this. He told me moist meat, thought chicken would be too dry. He also said I could have fruit with no seeds, no skin and nothing packed in syrup. No veggies because they might cause stomach upset. So, what does all that boil down to. All I can see is tuna mushed up with a little low-fat mayo, ... Would this be a good time for the lasagna cupcakes (and other types) that I have seen on the website posted by others or is this too early for that? What did you eat?

  24. I am just over 8 months post VSG. I am lucky to not have had any complications. I was able to get to my goal weight. I chose to have a breast lift and tummy tuck at 7 months post sleeve which I know is early but the right choice. I am 6 weeks post plastic surgery and just had my follow up appointment, I laughed when she sternly told me to not lose anymore weight. I can honestly say I would never have thought that I would ever have heard that again in my life. I do notice that it has been a full life style change but I am glad that I do feel I live a regular life. I know that I am sure to have obstacles over the years to come and it could be easy to fall back into old habits but I am sure my new tummy will keep me in line. This forum has been a great support and I am glad to have found it.
  25. Congrats on your weight loss, those are my plans also to get a tummy tuck and breast lift like a year after surgery. Im getting sleeved next week. Do you have before and after pictures ?
