Will I ever have my favorites again ??
ms.sss replied to PM2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mandatory Disclaimer: this is what i did, and the results/side effects are particular to me. YMMV. With that said: Im 3.5 years out. If I wanted to, i could forgo weighing and measuring food to avoid physical discomfort…i have long since learned what my stomach likes/dislikes and how much it can hold at a time. BUT i still measure/weigh because i’m a serial food tracker/logger cuz that’s just how i roll. Its not for everyone, but its just part of everyday life for ME. Beer and Coffee: I don’t drink beer (never did), but i do drink hard liquor. I had less than 10 partial drinks during my 7 month weight loss phase, but am now a regular drinker…some may say too much, but whatevs. Coffee, i served at the hospital, and i went back to my at least daily thermos of coffee at around 1 month post op. Also, i started drinking my fave sparkling water again around the same time. I probably drink about 5-6 litres of it a week. Fave food eating: I can honestly say there is nothing that I don’t eat IF i want to eat it. Alcohol? Check. Desserts? Check. Chips? Check. Fried foods? Check. Mind u there are alot of things that WERE my faves and ate alot of pre-op that just don’t register much anymore. I’m looking at you, rice and pasta. I barely eat (nor want) rice anymore…basically only if its sushi. Same goes for pasta and bread…i mostly only eat it if Mr. makes it, and we are talking like once every couple of 1-2 months. The volume of what i consume of my “faves” though is like a fraction of what I consumed pre-op, but thats just fine with me…its all about taste anyway, not about stuffing myself. —————— All this works for ME, and may or may not be your experience as well…you won’t know until you know. P.S. I’ve been maintaining below goal weight this entire time, so i must be doing something right! 😇 -
How long are you missing work?
BrittVee replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am about to be at 4 weeks and I am fighting for more time off through short term disability. I am so tired I can’t imagine working 8 hours straight. I am hoping to get more time off. Could I do it? Probably. But not well. -
Its just your head. regardless you should be following your surgeons guidelines with food. you should be on liquids only for about 2 weeks after surgery. Most important is getting in those 60 grams of protein and your fluids to heal properly.

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)
colocoral replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My prediet seems to be a little bit different than everybody else's. My doctor has made it a little bit easier. I'm actually allowed a half a turkey sandwich, lettuce and tomato. Three protein drinks a day at dinner. I'm allowed white fish, chicken breast or pork chop. This is for the first 10 days on the day before surgery. It's all liquid. Just saying times have changed. Maybe your doctors need to think about that. Sent from my Pixel 6 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Possible stricture and the dressed foamies
eclarke replied to Swinny's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey we are Bariatric twins! My surgery was on 3/29 too! Having some of the same issues, hope you take care of the stricture! Yeah, if I try something that upsets my stomach, its back to the shakes, it has become almost a comfort food now, since I also kinda hate eating. I have been assured by the helpful people on this website, and my doctor that by three months things will be much better and eating will be less burdensome. Its a journey.. -
Best wishes and good luck to all the May surgeries going this week!!!!! Don’t forget to update! Sending healing wishes to everyone!❤️

Did I screw up lol
Crisscat replied to Vsgbethany22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! I guess it really does boil down to what we are capable of tolerating early on, My dieticians are very strict with only fluids post op for 2 weeks. They dont even want us to try anything until post op 3 weeks. -

I have decided against them as well now. I did some research and same as what you said, works for some and not others. I also agree, Id probably be one of the ones it didnt work for lol. I forget tho, when did everyone start their bariatric vitamins? Before surgery or after surgery 1st or 2nd week? -
Hi everyone, I'm Kirsten from Vancouver, Canada. I am getting RNY bypass in a few weeks and I am super excited for how this is going to change my life.

i start to feel me as a looser, the operation doesn't work, all the blood test are perfect, i'm on a diet and i do sport, but the weight don't change. it's like my body can't lose weight, and i'm starting feeling bad, i don't understand why i don't lose weight, why after three year i'm still here, with only 20 kg less. i think the operation would change my life, it was a new life to start, and it wasn't. i'm the only?

June 2022 surgery buddies
Mariann812 replied to Jessica1024's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I finally used the CPAP for the first time after getting it last week. It was very simple to set up. I didn’t love it. 🤷🏻♀️ One if the dogs stared at me for a very long time when I put on the mask. DH was already asleep when I got the thing hooked up, but he mentioned that he he didn’t hear me snoring the way he typically does. I wore it while playing candy crush before I went to sleep and removed it after 4 hours and some minutes. -

Hi! Happy to say that after almost 2 years of following in a weight loss medicine clinic and doing preop testing (slowed down by COVID) with this goal in mind I FINALLY have my surgery date of June 1!! Preop diet of 4 shakes and 1 meat/veg meal starts 2 weeks prior. Happy to find a forum of friends to talk with. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
Peonie replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've just come back from a two week trip to the US, didn't weigh while I was there, did lots of walking but totally gave myself a break with the eating and managed to put on 3lbs while I was there which was my first gain since my operation. I've managed to lose it again fairly quickly now I'm back and on plan and have just hit the 7 stone loss mark - 98lbs, which has put me dead on 200lbs - can't wait to get under that. Love reading everyone's stories! -
It is not uncommon for your taste buds &/or sense of smell to change or become more sensitive after surgery. It’s temporary but it can make it a challenge to find foods that don’t turn your tummy. Many of us find our old favourites taste disgusting, or overly sweet or salty. A lot of us suggest you don’t buy your pre surgery shakes in bulk as you may hate the brand or flavour after surgery. It was many weeks into solid food before I could tolerate my favourite vegetables (asparagus, sugar snap peas & broccolini) again. Can also be a blessing. Finding things excessively sweet helped take away a lot of my desire for sweet food. Used to eat something sweet every day now only a couple of times a year.

I am truly hoping I lose the desire altogether for Dt Coke!! I drank way to many of those things each day. That saying, I have not had but 1 Dt Coke in a week. So I think Om doing good with that at the minute and so far it doesnt bother me too bad. I do miss the fizz of it tho.

Edamame and Artichokes?
Arabesque replied to newstacey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may struggle with vegetables that soon out unless they’re really well cooked. I’d add carrots, onions, celery, tomato, cauliflower, mushrooms, to soups, stews, etc. anything slow cooked from soft food. They’d be very soft & mushy. In solid food I found I could tolerate a little microwaved/steamed shredded cabbage or cauliflower, then green beans. Other vegetables were too coarse or tasted unpleasant for a few more weeks. But we’re all different. You can only try. -
I am at end of week 1 soft stage and tonight tried a small artichoke. I should have stopped at the leaves and saved the heart for tomorrow.

Ligamentum Teres Cardiopexy for GERD *after* the sleeve
Bariatricwarrior replied to SleevedK's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi ! Yes so I am 12 days post op this surgery and i felt instant relief they always say notice a huge difference at 2 weeks post op and at 6 weeks post op you get go come off ppis and all the swelling is down! I had a stricture, my sleeve was sliding up through my diaphragm creating a sliding hiatal hernia and severe severe severe reflux. I have been on 5 different reflux meds and was taking 120 mg a day plus pepcid twice a day . Also was npo for ten weeks from aspirating on stomach acid and not able to keep anything down not even fluids . Was on tpn via picc line and a feeding tube . So it was pretty bad . But this surgery saved my life! -

Arabesque replied to PM2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree 100% @Jaelzion. Besides clearer advice about portion sizes, food choices, food sensitivities or intolerances that may occur, etc., I’d also add discussions about things like stalls, hair loss, constipation... These issues can cause a lot of unnecessary anxiety. There’s enough to work through enough with the surgery, changes to our diet & lifestyle without these worries as well. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
ForMyOhana replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So, for second week in a row I'm down 1.2lbs. That feels painfully slow. I mean, it's still the right direction but, well you understand. I'm 2 weeks away to my 6 month mark. My goal was 290 by the 15th... but since I was 297 this morning, I'd predict 294. I shouldn't complain ... it's still all good. To focus on the bright side, I'm 2 weeks under 300. I'm much more active than I was 6 months ago and I'm feeling great. I'm walking at the rec center 4 to 5 days per week and hitting light weights after along with a short sweat in the sauna. Diet wise, my day looks about like this... coffee and protein shake, ... maybe an apple, 1/2 Gatorade zero and water with benefiber, maybe 1 egg around 11, tuna or chicken or egg salad for lunch, other half Gatorade zero and water with benefiber, usually fish or shrimp for dinner... or I just try to keep it reasonably healthy and on a saucer sized plate. Sometimes a late afternoon snake as well. So, the one thing I know I can do is a couple of liquid only days... that should help to jumpstart my progress again, maybe I can do that mid week this coming week. Good luck everyone. -
Shortest surgery date from first visit/consultation
ShoppGirl replied to Loma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The lady that told me about WLS (a friend of my aunts and she introduced me sO she could share her experience) was self pay and her consult to surgery was pre COVID and it was two weeks exactly and that was cause of the pre op diet. -
Thanks for giving this time frame of 3-6 weeks. I had surgery on March 14th. I lost 20 lbs, and then I've been stalled for 4 weeks. I lost more weight before the surgery than after. It's deflating on morale. I've never seen someone say 6 weeks happens, too. I sometimes feel like I wrecked my body for no reason. It's like I'm making myself miserable in the food I can't eat with no results.

I might just try the patches to see if my bloodwork after surgery is good or not. At least like liveaboard15 is doing for a couple weeks. -

you will be fine. I have been eating strained soups without issue. Last week i had some chicken enchilada type soup and i just strained out all the solid stuff. No issue. My discharge paperwork tho did tell me to avoid going out to eat for at least 2 months. -
