Sleeve to Bypass info needed
crazzeescrapper replied to crazzeescrapper's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Good luck on your surgery tomorrow! Please keep us posted on how your revision goes. -
Best wishes to you! Just got my approval yesterday for band to sleeve revision and I've heard how much more intense that surgery is so although I'm grateful for another chance to lose weight, I am sooo scared! Plus my husband is getting sleeved this Monday and I'm worried for him. It's all becoming real. I hope you have very little discomfort and a quick recovery. God Bless!

After going with the "it " procedure 15 years ago I revised to RNY...The lapband was the worse thing ever.A foreign silicone anything is the worse ever.I suffered and developed all kinds of issues from slippage to erosion...Do your homework before you jump in ."Sometimes the least invasive is the most invasive"...a quick fix that cause damages down the road to your body therefore you will seek a revision....try to avoid this.

I have been soooo nervous about whether or not I would be approved for my revision, but I called BCBS yesterday and was approved! So grateful, yet extremely worried and nervous. My husband is being sleeved this Monday, May 2. This was the original plan. We both get sleeved and he goes first to start tackling his diabetes! But now that it's so close, I am pretty much a nervous wreck. We aren't youngsters like so many others out there in Bariatric Pal Land, lol. I hope we can withstand the pain/discomfort and carb withdrawal! I know I'm not saying anything new!!

It depends on how much you need to lose and if you have any comorbidities. Two of the surgeons in the practice i am in don't like the balloon at all because they feel that it has to many potential problems. Also they put them in the category of the band, if they have to come out then the potential for regain is really high. I know there are ppl on here who have them and like them. I personally had the band and loved it but now that I have to have a revision due to a slip I wish I had listened better to my first surgeon and gone with the bypass. My personal choice of your two options would be the sleeve but if you have reflux issues at all or diabetic issues of any kind you should look into the bypass. Idk if that sounds pushy at all but if it does I'm sorry. Just want to help. No matter what you should do what you feel most comfortable with Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Surgeon said revision's 50/50 failure!?
WantToBe replied to missblonde20's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had band for 11 1/2 years and lost over 100 pounds but had to have it out. I'm getting sleeve next month 5 months after band removal. My surgeon has experienced lots of weight loss with band to sleeve revisions. My surgeon has mandatory 4 month weight once lose band so stomach can heal. I have never read anything similar to what your surgeon is stating. I would be concerned your surgeon might have another motive? Good luck with your decision. -
Anybody out there who has Achalasia and still got a sleeve?
moe1983 replied to nowornever14's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@nowornever14, I had the same issue, I removed the band and I did revision after 8 months, unfortunately I did not know and dr as well that I have pseudo achalasia , now 7 weeks out of the revision to sleeve and still food is getting stuck . Dr mentioned that I need to wait additional 5 weeks and do another test to see the results. Can you update me on your case? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Yes AussieGirl81This is because the band and small pouch is actually under pressure. The air pressure from flying increases tge airpressure in the band and creates quite a dangerous situation. You should always have fill removed for long flights. You can easily see what i mean next time you fly. Put and elastic band just lightly around your wrist or ankle before you take off. ..see how tight it is when you get to the other end. ....scary stuff! Im in aus too. Just revised my band to bypass after 7 years with lgb. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

Second guessing choice for sleeve
CowgirlJane replied to mom2wils's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think the bypass has two main advantages: 1. no GERD. Seriously, if you have it severe now don't get the sleeve; and 2. longer track record I am 4.5 years post band to sleeve revision and have been successfully maintaining 150# weight loss, with no GERD, but what i said above is true. I am not sure it's true that over the long haul one outperforms the other - the data is not complete on the sleeve and the bypass procedure has changed and evolved over the years. For the record, it is possible to regain weight post bypass - I have met people who had that happen, but as I said the procedure keeps evolving. -
Hey everyone! Just wanted to see if anyone else has found out they're band intolerant? I've been having really bad bouts of constantly vomiting for awhile, and it has gotten to the point I'm vomiting up white mucus and blood clots. I went to my doctor's office that did the surgery, and they checked the band to see if it slipped, and it hadn't. So then 2 weeks later I had an upper endo by the same doctor. The procedure he said only took 4 minutes, and the band hadn't eroded. So it hasn't slipped, or eroded, however, I have all the symptoms that would make you think so. I can't hold down majority of solids now, and liquids are questionable. My band is completely unfilled at this point. I am working on trying to get an appointment with a gastroenterologist to get their opinion on it. I am really starting to think my body has just rejected it. I have stomach inflammation, and they biopsied a bacteria but didn't tell me what it was. All I got was,"maybe it's your gallbladder, you should get that checked out." I told them to do it when I was in the hospital after the endoscopy just to get it out of the way, but they wouldn't. My band physically hurts, and I don't know what really to do. My symptoms are just getting worse...and revision may be my only option to fix it, but I don't have the money for self-pay and my insurance won't cover bariatric surgery. But if anyone else has had intolerance, it would be nice to get your input. Thank you

Can older people benefit from Bariatric Surgery?
vickiebc replied to James Marusek's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi all! Last year I had Roux-en-Y surgery at age 61 with no complications from that surgery. May 19th 2016 will be my year and I've lost almost 100 pounds and I am looking forward to actually getting to 100 pounds before the 19th. I need four or five more pounds to get to my third revised goal. All my comorbidities gone that of high blood pressure, pre-diabetes and high cholesterol. My blood work looks absolutely fantastic I feel good I exercise almost every single day some days I walk 8.5 miles and will increase that to 10 miles per day at least three times a week. I drink a lot of Water and pray each each and every day! Be encouraged the future is very bright!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Second guessing choice for sleeve
mom2wils posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am scheduled for a revision from band to sleeve on May 10 (yes, two weeks away) and after reading people's posts on both sleeve and bypass I'm starting to wonder if I should revise to bypass instead. I was originally banded in 2008 at a starting weight of 260. Lost about 60 lbs but have gained 30 back. Band has slipped from puking, I have slight reflux (kept in check by a ppi), PCOS, and pre-diabetes. I need to lose right at 100 lbs to be at my "desired" weight although I'd be happy losing 50-75. So I know for the amount of weight I want to lose the sleeve makes sense. I'm just nervous about failing yet again. I know it wasn't all the band's fault - I didn't follow the rules 100% of the time. I am tired of sliming and puking and fighting to get to the green zone - I've finally given up on the band working so I am moving on - but I need to know to what?!?! Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance! -
It's a revision from band to sleeve. Any recommendations will be very much appreciated. I'm doing the food funeral now lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So June! Awesome! That gives you time to get everything together, last minute stuff, etc. I personally nested. Will this be a revision or a first sleeve? Any goals or expectations? I'm hear to chat with whenever as long as you are willing to bear with some silly questions at times and a general good sense of humor. I don't like all the NO!!!!! NEVER!!!! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING????DIDNT YOU THINK AT ALL?!?!? YOU CANT BE SERIOUS ENOUGH ABOUT THIS!!!! And so forth. The later it gets the more heated it gets... I think it's because people are trapped in a computer room with low blood sugar. Everyone needs to stretch, maybe eat a yogurt? Good thoughts good good thoughts. Be well jenetts!!!! I was sleeved in Feb of 2014 and the lowest I've been was 242. I crept back up and thought.. Hmmm.. Something is not right. No matter what I did. So I scheduled with a surgeon here Fort Worth, TX who is an affiliate of True Results. I just had my EGD done on April 19 and learned that.. I have an enlarged sleeve, 3cm hiatus hernia, and an irritation of the throat from chronic acid reflux. This makes me soo incredibly unhappy as well as the surgeon. He told me that my previous surgeon uses a 40 to determine the sleeve size as his standard. Where as other surgeons use a smaller one. I guess I am venting but also would like to know if anyone else has ever experienced this. I am hoping to have revision surgery to get back on track. I am June 7. Revising from band to bypass. Had the band out in March and looking forward to finally losing weight for good! Good luck to us!

Jax mom how is your weight loss going if you do not mind sharing of course. It was mentioned on a post awhile back that if you have revision surgery you do not loose as much as someone having the sleeve for the first time. It sounds like Florida Chris is doing good just wondering how others are doing with their weight loss when having a revision. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

what made you decide on the RNY ?
Mocca replied to taweedeegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also wanted a sleeve initially, but my Dr recommended a bypass because I am revising from a lap band. According to him, new data shows that folks with lap band revisions do much better with a bypass then with a sleeve. He did not discuss the reflux issue, but I had terrible reflux from a slipped band, and I never want to go through that again. Also, in the unlikely circumstance that something is terribly wrong, a bypass can be undone -- all the original parts are still there. With a sleeve, the extra part of your stomach is actually removed. That is my thinking anyway. I keep thinking that the sleeve may be a bit like the lap band, something new that does not work for a lot of people in the long run -- kind of like the band. Perhaps not -- time will tell.
