A little about me... how has ur sleeve benefited you?
laceygorrell posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi my name is lacey and I'm 27 years old. I am a wife and mom of 4. I have two sons 10 and 4, and two daughters 8 and 5. Prior to getting pregnant at the age 16 I was around 5ft 7 and 150 lbs. It seemed like the weight just came out of the middle of nowhere as one day u couldn't tell I was pregnant to the next I popped. I gained 80lbs my pregnancy at the end I also had preeclampsia. After I had my son the weight never seemed to come off. I since then have had 3 more kids back to back. My weight has always went up. Around 6mths ago I quit drinking Dr pepper which was my addiction and thought for sure I would have to lose some weight. That never happened.I have been considering weightloss surgery for along time but recently within last few months I have completed everything. I am so looking forward to going outside to play with my kids without running out of breath. I used to be so active and play sports myself and can't wait to do it again with my son. He asks me all the time mom do u wanna go play and I really do want to but I physically cant. It makes me feel so bad. I would like to have my self confidence back like I used to. Hard yo believe my teenage years I was selected for modeling but wouldn't believe it now. I don't expect to be likeffective I was when I was 16 but I do want to be healthy and make my hubby and kids proud of me. I should have a surgery date by friday for around 1st to middle of july. I'm so anxious and excited for the start of my new life. 1st picture before my pregnancy and weight gain 2nd and 3rd picture today weighing 286 -
I lost most of my weight without a fill. My first fill was on July 23rd, 2007. I think I have lost around 8 pounds since then. I have the VG band also. I have to say though that I starting walking in the hospital and am now riding my bike 70-100 miles a week. So, the exercise had a lot to do with my rapid loss. Certainly wasn't will power, I have none of that.

Las Vegas Buffets eat all you want- banded?
MC Cindy replied to VegasGrace's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Glad you had fun in Vegas and even lost a pound! I know I ate some bad meal choices this weekend and thought I gained too..... eating out is a nightmare but i lost a pound too! -
Sufina - welcome. I have found it very helpful to be tied into the local lapband patients in my area so I went under USA Local support groups thread, to my Ohio thread, and then we have all kinds of various groups by the major cities and areas in Ohio and as a result of chatting in that area, we actually formed a local support group that meets at a mall once a month and involves only lapband patients since we found each of our surgery centers had about 90% Gastric Bypass and 10% lapband patients (or about that split) and we wanted to just have lapband support specifically so it has worked out great for us. The second group on the website I've found great support through is once you have a band surgery date, mine was March 17, I found tremendous support from the people having surgery at the same time as me, going through the same fears and cheers about going to the hospital, initial diet post op, etc. So that is under Band surgery dates and then it splits by Year and then by Month of surgery. Third group I've found some support through is whether you have alot to lose or just a certain amount to lose, there are groups for those by weight loss categories so if you have alot to lose, you'll need support from those who understand you're in it for the long haul because its not going to come off in just 6 months or even a year if your BMI is over 40 or 50. Hope this helps.

I'm a 36 year old female and was banded on 1/27. I have lost 65 pounds since then and am just over halfway to my goal. Due to chronic tonsilitis, I am going to have to have a tonsillectomy in December. I was wondering if anyone has had to undergo this procedure after being banded. If so, can you tell me how it went for you? I hear that it is incredibly painful for adults, so that is something to look forward to. My surgeon has said that I will need to get a complete unfill which makes sense. I know that I won't be able to eat after the procedure, so I'm not overly concerned about gaining weight during this time. I think my biggest concerned is "starting over" with the fill process. I have (possibly unnecessary?) concerns that it will somehow be different. Just curious to hear any applicable stories. Thanks!!

Wow Gina, you can actually see the weight loss, especially in your face. You are doing awsome! You are very pretty too, and your honey isn't bad to look at either! lol Thanks for sharing! Betty

Wow, 42 pounds in three months! What an inspiration. Considering that your weight loss slowed in recent weeks, that's especially impressive. I hope I do as well as you. Thanks for sending your pictures.

Where is the strangest place/person you discussed your lapband?
HarleyNana replied to maryb's topic in The Lounge
Lets seeeeee, WAWA, (gas station/deli store), I told the check out clerk, local bar, one of my DH's friends was commenting about how much weight I'd lost and how'd I do it, yadayada, I told him the Adkins diet, well it was easier and it was loud in there and I think he was drunk, LMAO. I've pretty much told anybody that would listen, unless they were thin. -
Where is the strangest place/person you discussed your lapband?
K@t replied to maryb's topic in The Lounge
the most awkward place was with my brother in law.....i feel more comfortable telling complete strangers then him. He has had a weight problem too and I could just feel him judging me. I didn't even bring it up my MIL. ick....*shiver* don't want to relive that. -
I had one today. I went for my annual mamogram. On the paper work they ask if you have gained or lost more then 10 pounds in the last year. So naturally I put yes. When I was finally led in to the torture chamber, the technician was going over my paperwork and ask if I had lost or gained. I told her I had lost 23 pounds. She ask me how. I figured she would see my scars anyway, so I told her I had lapband surgery. She said really! She then told me she had her stomach stapled like 20 years ago, and how awful the experience was and showed me her hidious scar. She also told me a coworker died from the stomach stapling. She didn't know anything about lapband, so I told her everything I knew plus I told her about the wonderful support network of lapband talk. She said she wished it was around when she had hers. Next thing I know she was leading me out of the room back to the lockers. She hugged me and said I probably won't recognize you next time you come in. It was so sweet and special...then I realized...I just had a mamogram and didn't feel a thing!

To measure weight or volume
ProudGrammy replied to ArtSong's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NUT told me from beginning to always measure the volume sofw said it well........ ie eating 1/3 cup volume of peanuts can be a lot - whereas 1/3 cup volume of chicken (i will cut up small peices and measure in cup) won't be as many pieces, but will be same correct quantity (hope i said that right) won't be the same weight as peanuts (the chicken) but the volume is correct - that is what your tummy can hold -
Okay, I just got the lapband may 23 and I am trying to excersize and stretch more but ever since I was a kid and I bend over or try to touch my toes or even lean forward my sternum tightens up so bad. I have to raise my hands above my head and stretch upward as high as I can just to get it to stop. I dont think its weight related because even when I was thin it happend. Is their anything I can do to pervent this and does this happen to others? Im not sure if theirs somthing I can do the strengthen the area or what. Any advice is greatly appreciated

If you are going to the doctor regularly there is a record of your past weights. They are also probably want a record of past weight loss attempts...WW, Jenny Craig, Atkins, weight loss medications. So, you may want to try to write those down with the approximate dates and weight loss amounts from each. Advice for the psych eval, tell the truth. They normally ask the same type questions over and over in a different way. If you aren't truthful, it will mess you up. I had BCBS also, it depends on the group plan you have, but my approval process was very quick and easy. Good luck.

Delarla, my first period was scheduled to arrive 4 days after my surgery and it did not happen. The following month it was late by 5 days. But my PMS was strange . I got bloated and my band became very tight I actually lost 3 pounds during that time since all I could do was liquids and yogurt I was so tight . This month is the same thing, the past week I have had this tightness and again I have lost 2 pounds but have not actually started yet but I know it's on it's way. I have the classis symptoms. My Dr. (ortiz) told me this was all normal, rapid weight loss and surgery can delay a womans menstrual cycle, he told me it could take up to 3 months to regulate. Don't worry, I think this is the norm for most of us new bandsters. Hope this helps Michelle 4.6.04 265/238.5/160ish

If you've lost 4lbs in the last few weeks you are not on a stall. A stall is no weight loss or even a small gain. My stalls usually last over a week, many have stalls for months. Sounds like you are doing great. The only thing you need to change are your expectations. If you were stalling I'd suggest upping water. When I had a stall I just increased my water to 80oz for a few days and it broke. The longer you are out the slower the weight loss will be. same as you approach your goal weight. If I'm down 68 lbs at 4 months out I will throw a party! I find normal weight loss for me looks like a set of stairs on a graph, not a downslope or a cliff.

What kind of supplement are you looking for? My dietitian and exercise physiologist said no pre-workout food or supplement is necessary unless you are doing a serious weights workout, in which case you should have something with 5-10 grams or so of carbs prior to your workout in order to fuel your muscles. I usually have a piece of dried fruit in those instances. Then after a weights workout, something with protein and carbs, like a protein shake made with honey vanilla almond milk, or a regular (low carb) protein shake with another piece of dried fruit.

This is not a useful person. Talk to useful people like us. We've been there and done that and it works. I have lost 37 pounds since May which is amazing because I was just gaining weight before the band. Screw that person.

Anyone else lose a friend or friends when they opted to get healthier?
untfluter replied to irishstorm831's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Interestingly enough... I have a friend who had GB several years ago... she did very well, but when I saw her a year ago, she had gained a little back, but still looked amazing... This time last year I was in Chicago visiting her for my birthday... at that time, I had no plans at all to have WLS.... when I made the decision... I spoke w/her in like March of this year... she questioned my choice of surgeon, she thought her surgeon was the ONLY one to use and questioned my choice of LB instead of GB. Since that conversation, she has not answered her phone when I call, returned my voicemails, emails or texts.... I find this very sad and very confusing. You would think that her having gone thru WLS and been successful, you would think that she would be supportive and not forgotten about our friendship... it really sucks to lose a friendship you cherised over something like this... -
IT'S OFFICIAL: I am at the lower half of the 200's!
LilMissDiva Irene replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks everybody! You are so kind!! I just like to share the good news because I am so excited to have gotten my band. It's one of the best things I have ever done for myself. Working on becoming healthy has brought out more than just health. I also have become much more outgoing. In fact I have been doing lots of training at work. I work for Cal-Fire and this summer I will be called out to some major fires to help with payment processing for the firefighters. It will be pretty damanding, and I know it's not something I would have been able to pull off had I still been at my largest. I have in total since my heaviest weight lost 80 lbs. That is a lot of weight to carry around, especially now that I see I have about 99 more to lose. I often wonder how I was able to do that and why it took me so long to come out of that fog of denial. I think the fact I was diagnosed with hypertension really woke me up because we've had a family tragedy with it. I've seen that it is very dangerous and it CAN kill you... Anyway, stay strong VV's. We are all in this together. Take care! -
They had to up my calorie intake Bc I stopped losing weight. So, as long as you're still losing you should be good!

congrats!!! That is so awesome & exciting. My goal is to lose 60 pounds within 6 months. Around 10 a month! Did you exercise a lot also? Or mainly just changed your eating habits? I'll be banded August 18th, almost 3 weeks. I am so so so excited. I think about "what if i gain it all back after I lose it" too! But, I feel good about it, and I think I'll feel REALLY good about it once I actually do lose my weight! But, we're going to have the band forever, not just for 6 months ya know? If I start gaining any weight back, or eating poorly, etc. then I'm going to make an appointment to go see the surgeon & dietician! I think you should do the same! And, just like dionna113 said, if you stay at the "sweet spot" you should be full all of the time, etc! well congrats! that is just awesome! i can't wait to be there!!!

whats more important counting calories or getting in the protein?
andielmt posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am struggling a little, i am trying to keep my calorie intake no more than 1500 calories per my nutritionist but sometimes i find that my protein intake is lower than its supposed to be. somedays when i eat more protein my calories are higher. if i go back to the basics and eat more chicken, eggs, tuna, etc maybe this will keep my calories down. i go in to the surgeon on tues and havent lost any weight now for 4 months. the last time i went in she seemed very disappointed in me. i would get another fill but she said i was tight last time only at 1.5cc in a 4cc band. i have to say that in the past week ive been getting full quicker and not thinking about food as much. i just started using myfitnesspal.com to keep track of my calorie intake, it also keeps track of your protein also andrea -
Well I'm on solid foods now - but even when I was on mushy food - I tried to keep my calories on track. I orginally was at less then 1,000 calories but then I read many posts and thought maybe I was in starvation mode and that's why my body wasn't letting loose of the weight. What calorie intake do you think I should be at?

You are doing great. Get the dieting mentality out of you. You will not gain it back with good and balanced restriction and nutrition. You are doing great. Congrats.
