    Jeans! NSV

That moment you look at a cute pair of jeans, pick up a size you never thought you'd fit in to again and think... "There is NO way these are going to fit!!"......and then they do!!! :) On my surgery day (February 1st), I was comfortably wearing size 26W jeans. Not quite 8 months out, and I just bought a size 14 from American Eagle! I have to admit, while I love seeing the number on the scale drop, I love all the NSV's that come with this journey so much more!

My favorite part of the day is getting a few minutes to read these NSV's! I don't know why, but they are so much more uplifting than just saying how much you lost. I am so happy for you, is it easy to cross your legs now??

    I am totally freaking out!

If I may make another suggestion, since you have attended the seminar and "lived to talk about it". I was stuck waiting for 6 months due to a diet requirement by my insurance. I figured I might as well educate myself on what I was getting into. I started attending the support group (it wasn't required, but it was open to the public). I met people at all stages, thinking about having surgery, pre-ops, recent post-ops, people out a year or more. It was very educational, and by the time I had jumped through all the hoops and had surgery, I could practically do the procedure myself! Not really, but I had a really good handle on what I was getting into. The more you know . . . There are many books you can buy, most available on amazon.com (I bought The Lapband Solution and The Lapband Companion). Also on obesity help.com there is a magazine you can subscribe to called OH. Good articles, before and after pics, Wow moments (good stuff that happens after weight loss, also known as NSV or non-scale victories), nutritional articals, plus lots of ads geared just for bariatric patients, like Vitamins and Snacks. Many vendors have sample packs you can buy to try their product. The other thing: exercise. You will need to make a serious committment to exercise. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, like an expensive gym membership. Mostly what I do is walk in a park near home that has a nature trail about 1.5 or so miles long. I generally go around twice, carrying peanuts for the squirrels. For back up I belong to Curves, and the county rec center gym ($2.00 a month--that really is 2 dollars), and I have a multi-class ticket for Water aerobics, that I paid upfron but averages about $6.00 per class. Curves costs $29.00 a month. With the nice weather we have been having I have just about been living at the park. Curves called me up to tell me they missed me! Good luck on your journey. This site is also a great place to get info. Do your thing and don't let anyone tell you that you are taking the easy way out. The band only restricts the amount of food you put into your mouth. You still have to make the decision to eat healthy and exercise.

Oh that's a great story and NSV. I keep coming back to the boards (like too many times a day....) because I get sleeved on the 27th and I cannot WAIT to have a story like this of my own. Of course, I'm not a newlywed nor do I have a boyfriend but just any ole story about feeling good about my body will do. Congratulations to you! (and your hubby, haha) Keep us all posted! and please keep me in your thoughts on the 27th. With much aloha, Lulu

    100 lbs I did it !!!!!!!!!!

Well Done!!!!!! You should be so proud of yourself!!! Tell us more of how life is different now......there has to be major NSV's!!!!!
  6. I went zip lining for the first time on Saturday. It's another goal item because I previously weighed too much to go. AND since they weigh you as they put the gear on you, I saw that I weigh less then my super skinny guy friend that was doing it with me. Probably won't ever go again, turns out it was a lot of work and I wasn't good at it so I finished the last half of the course tandem with the cute 22 year old guide.

    Weight Loss Obstacle

no you are not doing anything wrong. a pound a day is simply not possible for any length of time. i also lost 30+ my first month then 8-10 per month since. A slowing is natural and healthy. Dont weigh everyday it just messes with your mind. pick a day of the week (same day as surgery or a weekend) and weigh in just once per week to take the emotional pressure off. It can take a while to relearn the full signals from your brain. If you know you will hurt at 4 bites then stop at 3. and yes slower is way better. Try to enjoy the journey you have started and look for NSV (non scale victory) in your life - getting off meds - smaller cloths - mobility -

    Major Nordstrom NSV

The good news - wait the GREAT news- everything in the 'womens' department (aka the big girl section) is now officially too big for me. I have a big presentation in front of the president of my company coming up and needed something 'professional' to wear. I went to Nordstroms, where there is a very helpful sales lady who I love, and started trying on clothes. The smallest size they carry in the women's dept is a 14W. Everything I tried was too big. We called in the alterations lady. She starts pinning, and pinning and pinning and she finally says - "what I've taken-in here is a whole size. Did you try the other department?" Well, no, I didn't try the other department - I haven't been able to fit anything there in years. The helpful sales lady and I trek downstairs to try on 'regular' sized clothes. Waddaya know? Most of them fit! There are still some pants where I need a 14 w, and will have to have them altered down , and jackets are still a problem (I have lunch lady upper arms), but, most everything FIT! Wow - I can't hardly believe it. I'm too small!!

Wow! That is a major NSV!! I have never shopped in that department!! I think I'm gonna cry too! Congrats!!

Looks like you have to get not only a new wardrobe, but a new mental image of yourself. Excellent NSV!
  11. Clothes falling off, yes one of the best kind of NSV's! There's a song about Tequila makes her clothes fall off. Well we got a new one, The Sleeve makes our clothes fall off!!! lol. Congrats!!
  12. My pants won't stay up. They are a 34, I was in a 54 at my heaviest an a 48/50 at surgery 5 months ago. I have a pair of 33's that are a perfect fit. And buttoned a 32 the oter day. Can't wear them yet but I will. :-). Though I did notice that if I had a tummy tuck right now it would most likely remove several more inches!!! Yeah I'm loving it. Oh and yestarday I got the full body scan and smile from a hottie! Yeah I smile right back and for the rest of the day.
  13. I don't have surgery until December, but thoroughly enjoy reading everyone's NSV or what NSV they can't wait for! I thought it would be fun to mix it up a bit and ask that we share our most private/embarrassing NSV or the ones we normally wouldn't tell anyone! My two most private/embarrassing to admit NSV's will be: 1. Wiping with ease! 2. Grocery shopping without sweating like I have just worked out at the gym!

What is your most embarrassing NSV?

Not embarrassing, but definitely an unpleasant NSV. As I have lost weight it has revealed that I have varicose veins in my legs. So my pasty white legs are smaller now, but . . . . . .😫 Guess they have been there for a while, but encased in fat 🙁

    Everything has changed.

Congrats to you!!! I love hearing about the NSVs. It just means so much more than a number on the scale. This journey just gets better and better along the way. :->

    HUUUUUGE NSV!!!!!

OMG I'm out of my head excited!!!!! I had 4 huge boxes of "thin clothes" on my closet and 99% of it now fits!!! I tried them on yesterday. Size 14 and 12 pants, size large and medium tops!!!! I didn't realize I was that small yet, but went to a party Friday night and my friend told me that I looked tiny, and I realized my new size 16 Ann Taylor pants (omg yea, regular clothes!!) were already kinda droopy on me. I just bought them a month ago! Being a size 14 wasn't even on my radar... And the best part is I even missed the boat on a favorite coat which is kinda too big. Hah!!!!!!!!!!! So happy!!!

    What is your NSV?

I was banded Thursday and came back to work yesterday (Monday was a holiday for all of us in the US). Everyone said "I thought you had surgery last week!" I told EVERYONE in my office, and made a flyer that shows what, generally, got done. (PM me if you want the flyer) Not exactly NSV, but it makes me feel good to know that my color is good and my mobility is normal so there isn't anything out of the ordinary.

    Rash under breast relief

Actually, I've been to the derm dr. for this, 'Intertrigo'. It's a fungus, I got it three years ago when I hit my heaviest...and each spring, the first sign of heat/humidity - HERE IT COMES. You can treat this with Lotrimin Spray/Powder is the best version I find. Be sure to totally dry under your breasts after a shower, and even under arms (I get the weeping, rash there sometimes too). Been doing this for years. Best part now; I work for the company who makes it!!! HEHEHEHE The NSV for me with regard to this; after my current weight loss (which is recommended to get rid of this) - I didn't have one outbreak this whole summer. Yet. Now watch, I've just cursed myself! lol :faint:

    Hilarious Nsv!

This may be a really stupid question, but what is NSV?
  21. @@imala74 - embrace the stall...search for the link on BP. Remember stalls are going to come and go. Some are longer some are just a few days. STAY OFF THE SCALE! measure yourself, find a piece of clothing from before WLS and try them on...NSVs (non-scale victories) are the BEST! especially when the scale isn't moving. STAY Focused!

You're gorgeous! I love that NSV too! Had it a day or two ago!!! 254 May 15 surgery today 181. Congrats on your loss!
  23. hey that's a nice NSV! you're doing really well.
  24. I was asked by the hospital where I had surgery (Summit Medical Center in Van Buren, AR) to do a photoshoot for a marketing campaign to promote the WLS program. I don't have the real pics yet, but someone snapped a cell phone pic fom the side. This was a huge NSV for me. I felt like a model and it was really fun! I recommend everyone doing something like this for yourselves. You could go to Portrait Innovations or even WalMart portrait studios for very little $, but we all have SO much to be proud of! A few other pics.... My FIRST 5k!! Two legs in one! My new size SMALL workout pants! (never thought I would be in a small anything!) The before shot for comparison sake...

    First Nsv For Me!!!

Ok...so I know this is probably the lamest NSV ever, but it amused the hell out of me so I thought I'd share. One of my favorite ways to unwind after a long day is with a hot bubble bath. Been super crazy busy for the last few weeks so I haven't been able to have one. Last night I finally made the time and started the Water. Apparently it had been longer than I thought, because when I got in the tub I realized that my butt no longer touches both sides of the tub!!! Woo hoo!! I actually have room, like 3 inches, on both sides!!! Made my whole day.... Thanks for listening, Kelly
