    Pre-op liquid diet

I'm also doing optifast for a month. My surgery is May 19. I've been on it for about 2 weeks and so far I've lost 11.5 pounds. That's exactly what I'm doing.

How do I eat when I always feel full

I'm 10 weeks out and on 600 calories/70g's protein a day. I've got a craving for vegetables but 600 cals keeps me on a pretty tight budget of protein protein protein. I seem to be a slow loser. If allowed I could easily 900 cals a day

    5 Weeks Out

I'm 5th week too. Here's about what I eat; although, I'm thinking of switching my coffee to tea because it is a lot of calories with the 2% milk and creamer. From my food diary at MyFitness: Breakfast Coffeemate - French Vanilla-liquid, 2 tbsp Coffee - Brewed, espresso, 8 Fluid ounce Horizon Organic Milk Plus Dha Omega-3 Reduced Fat 2% Milk - 2% Milk, 2 Cup Premier Nutrition - High Protein vanilla shake, 11 oz lunch Shrimp - Raw, 4 medium Dietz & Watson - Gourmet Lite Turkey Breast (Sliced Deli Meat), 1 oz. Sarputo Frigo cheese Heads - Low Moisture Part Skim Mozarilla String Cheese, 1 oz stick (28g) dinner Halibut - Fillet Baked, 3 oz (85g) Best Foods - Real Mayonaise, 1 tbl (13g) Snacks Clif Bar - Builder's Bar - chocolate Mint, 0.5 bar I should mention that fruits and vegetables aren't added in to my diet until Week 8 according to the plan that I'm on.

    5 Weeks Out

At 5 weeks, I was eating pureed Soups. My favorite was ham and lentil with veggies. I tossed it into a blender which made it look gross, but it tasted wonderful. It had a bold flavor which I needed at this stage. Other soups I made were chicken veggie and turkey chili. Blended them and they were wonderful (at this stage).

How do I eat when I always feel full

I use fatsecret.com, mostly because I like the app for my mobile phone and the reporting feature (I email my food logs to my dietician each week). I never get a "you're not eating enough" message. I hover between 550 and 700 calories with a minimum of 60 grams of protein. As to my stall at week 3-4, once I upped my water intake and my protein, I started losing again.
  8. Any fatigue? Dizziness? Fever? These are signs to go to the doctor, stat. But when in doubt, it never hurts to call the doctor's office and see what they say. I suggest you take it easy for a few more weeks before going back to the gym hardcore.

    scrambled eggs

Thanks for the info! And congrats on your awesome weight loss!!! I haven't had any problems with the eggs so far. I had some again for dinner last night. I won't have a fill for another two weeks, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I don't scramble my eggs until they dry out, and I like to put about a tablespoon of ketchup in them... maybe that's what has kept me from having a PB with them.

    scrambled eggs

I have entered the soft food stage of my diet, and the first thing I had was scrambled eggs for dinner last night. I never thought eggs could taste so good, and I've been eating them all my life! I guess it was just the fact that I was not eating for over two weeks straight. One egg left me full, where before being banded I would eat 3 scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage and wash it all down with a huge glass of orange juice. Just thought I'd share.

    Year and Half Later...slipping

@@lifelongSolution Thanks. I don't know what it is but there are days it is easy and then days where it is really hard! At about 3 months out I had a rough patch and started doing a day of liquids once a week and that really helped. I wasn't as hungry and felt more in control. I don't do it all the time, just when I need it.
  12. So it's been awhile since I last posted, but I'm still loving my lap-band! I had my second fill last monday, where she gave me .5ccs (my first fill was 4.4ccs). I was pretty disappointed when I heard how low she was going, but I agreed anyway, bc she didn't really want to give me one in the first place. I'm 3 months out and lost 50 lbs between pre-op and now, so she was really happy with my progress. Well.. I'm thinking i might be at green, or close to it. I can still eat and enjoy foods, but I'm noticing i get stuck if I'm not mindful of my eating. I've had 3 pb episodes, so I really need to focus on small bites, chewing well, and listening for my signals (usually a small hiccup). I'm still eating low carb, because it works best for me. Currently sipping warm green tea because i just had a pb episode with Quest Protein chips.

    Pain beneath incision

I wasn't cleared to do anything abdominal until I was cleared to do weights at the 6 week mark, but for about the first 3-4 weeks I had pain in a similar spot. Freaked me out a bit, until the surgeon explained that they come in at an angle and the "inside hole" wasn't in the same place as the "outside hole". Still worth calling the doc and seeing what they say, just in case something weird is going on! Good luck to you

    Weigh in and insurance

I had the same thing happen actually. I thankfully realized I had gained 5 lbs when I went to see a different doctor. I was 285 at initial apt and 290 a couple weeks later. Unfortunately every insurance is different. My surgeons group had a specific person who dealt with my insurance company's rules for the pre-op diet so I called her to verify. When I did see the 290lb I did get sad for a couple days because my insurance won't let me gain any weight. I have to stay the same or lose so I started looking at what I was eating. I have a sweet tooth. I'm working with a therapist now to get mentally prepared for after surgery, no binges or overeating, and cut back on sweets. I was able to get down to 284 in a week that way. I follow high protein, high fiber, low fat, low carb. Sugar doesn't make you fat, fat makes you fat. I'm also vegan. Animal meat is much more fatty than tofu, tempeh, or seitan. Oh, and don't know if you know this, drinking alot of water will help with water retention during your period which will help with weight. I also lift weights or do leg lifts, stability ball etc while I'm watching TV. I can't do much as I have back problems and chronic pain. These are just a few things I do. I hope these help you! Good luck! You can do it! Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    How sore were you?

I was up and walking around the next morning and getting in and out of the hospital bed on my own. The quicker you are up and moving around the quicker you recover. First night home was a breeze, of course I was sore getting up and down from a laying or sitting position but I took my pain meds as directed and the following Monday I was back in work..... I worked 1/2 day in the office and 1/2 at home for 2nd week and by 3rd week I was in office full time.
  17. I read all the stories: complications, unable to eat or drink, drains! None of that for me. I lost 35 lbs as of today. My sleeve is not too big or small. Just perfect. I just LOVE Dr. Mark Pleatman for being so incredibly skilled and experienced. Love, love, love. I am in an incredible shape! I can EAT. Super small portions, but I can eat! I could have been one of those patients suffering so much post op...GRATEFUL! RELIEVED! THANKFUL!

    White Pasta

I was told also no white pasta or easer yet (lol) no white four products at all for a while. Well last week i went to lunch with my boss and had a burrito ate about half went down fine but about 15 min.'s later OH MY GOD the pain. I guess the torttilla swelled up and OUCH. So i've learned my lession. Others will say "check with your doc" this is good sound advise. I've also read where others have no problem with breads and pastas. If you want to be a hard head (lol) like me (I'm always testing my limits) you could try but its not advisable.
  19. I was banded Jan 10th and just had my first fill. I had a couple of other appts. where my Dr. decided I didn't need a fill because I wasn't hungry and I was losing at a good rate. Friday I went in and I am still not hungry except when I should be (unlike before when I was always hungry). I did tell him I could eat more than before depending on what it was. I was still getting stuck once in awhile trying new stuff so I know I had some restriction from the fluid he put in during surgery. He decided to do a fill and the process itself wasn't too bad. He had me drink a small amount of water and that went well. No problem. It wasn't till about 4 hours later that I started to have issues. When I drink anything now there's all this gurgling going on ( like a plugged drain )and it seems like it takes forever for the fluid to go down. I feel like something is stuck in the back of my throat all the time and have a kind of nauseous feeling. Do you think this is normal after a fill and maybe it will ease up in a few days or should I think about getting some fluid taken out next week. I had 2cc in after surgery and he just added 2 cc. I have a 10cc band.
  20. With less than a week until my operation, I thought I would focus on the three big weight loss goals that I would like to achieve, in a Japanese way. Today is Setsubun, an old Japanese holiday that used to mark the change of seasons. It involves wearing a mask to scare children and throwing dried Beans or peanuts around (and out of) the house to get rid of bad spirits (and encourage good ones to come in). However, this holiday often includes getting a Daruma doll. In Japan, when one has a wish or goal they would like to complete, they get a Daruma doll, which is a small, hollow, wooden doll, usually painted in red, with the eyes blank. You fill in one eye when you make your wish, and then when that wish/goal comes to pass, you can fill in the other eye. These dolls are a symbol of perseverance and good luck, and are popular all over Japan. I happened to visit the centre of Daruma-doll production (Takasaki, Gunma), where I picked out a few of them. I thought they would make great visual reminders of the goals I want to achieve. The three goals are: hitting onederland, losing 100 pounds, and achieving goal weight. What are (or were) your three big goals?

    Cant sleep on my back!

You'll be able to go back to sleeping as you like once you heal up. I spent my first two weeks in a recliner, personally, because being flat in the bed made it harder to get up and the acid reflux was icky. Pillows are great for support, though, once you start sleeping more normally. I am a side/stomach sleeper and used a pillow for support and it made all the difference
  22. Hello, I'm new to this site. I am excited to have some online support. I'm 7 weeks out. About how many calories should I be eating daily?

    Yet another stall post :-(

I'm 13 weeks and your weight loss is similar to mine - I consider myself a slow loser, but I've come to terms with that. Comparing yourself to others will lead to unhappiness/disappointment, so I've tried to stop. I am just coming off a 12 days stall...It sucks, but it is what it is. I can't control what my body does, I can only control what I put in my mouth and moving my body. I figure my body will catch up when it's ready. I actually increased my calories by 200-250 the past few days and, surprise, stall is over. I was getting 800-900 calories per day. It could be a coincidence, but this is the 2nd time it's happened. I call it "feeding the stall". I also take my measurements - it helped with this latest stall to know that in the last month I've lost another couple of inches on my hips. Measurements will tell you you're getting smaller when the scale isn't budging. You're doing great - keep working your plan and start that shred; exercise will do your mind wonders as well. You got this!
