  3. Hey everyone. I am new to this site. I was banded on 1/10/08, which was the best decision I have ever made. I have gone from 316 to 290 and feeling great. Now I'm just wanting to speak with people who have done this, because I know I have a long way to go.
  4. I am going back on Saturday. I stayed home for about 10 days. I hope it's enough. Are u still on the full liquid diet?

    Social Media Resources/Tips?

Erin Branscom has a YouTube channel (My Level 10 Life) and also a private (paid) Facebook group that's very supportive and there are lots of recipes, meal plans, and food prep tips. On the Facebook group there is also a weekly Zoom chat. I'm really enjoying it, although I haven't actually tried any of the recipes yet. Some of the food prep tips and maybe some of the recipes are available on the YouTube channel. She has lots of videos documenting her whole process. I don't agree with everything she says (she's big into essential oils and hates "chemicals"), but the Facebook group has been wonderfully supportive.

  8. 1. The longer I go without seeing people, the greater my opportunity to surprise them with my new skinny self! 2. It doesn't matter that my bras don't fit, b/c I don't have to wear one! 3. By wearing jammies every day, I have no idea what size clothing I wear, so it will be a fun surprise when I finally decide to get dressed again! 4. Working from home, I don't have to worry about temptations from coworkers bringing in donuts, cookies, etc. 5. Also no restaurant temptations, since I eat every meal at home. 6. I can use all the $$ I'm saving on not getting hair and nails done to get extra glamorous when I break out of here someday. 7. Amazon delivers my favorite protein shakes. 8. I have plenty of time to try various free workout videos on YouTube. 9. Plenty of time for weighing experiments, before shower/after shower, before pee/after pee; the possibilities are endless. 10. I can drink as much water as I want, b/c I can pee every 10 minutes if I have to (which is also fun for #9).

    Oh no! Weight gain!

Have you been working out? And how quick did you gain the 10 pounds? Was it a month? Two months etc. So many different people have different concepts to what their bariatric nurse/surgeons have suggested or required in their program. The program that I am in states that no weight should be gained anytime you go in for an appointment. Every appointment that you have they check your weight and want to see if you have lost any weight. You have to remember that the main reason for the 6 month diet is to so that you can be disciplined enough to stick to a plan (even if you lose 5 pounds over 6 months). I haven't had the surgery yet but from what I hear you won't be able to eat a lot of food like we're use to doing. I have learned to eat much smaller meals. Trust me it was HARD. But, in a short two months I have lost about 26 pounds. I started off by eating what I loved and just eating smaller portions. Then from there I started eating healthier lean meats, rice and veggies. Then I totally switched it up. When I don't have a drink with my food I fill satisfied longer and it's making me not overeat. Try and shock your system and switch it up. You don't want to be penalized for gaining weight and getting denied by your insurance. I'm not an expert at this. I'm new too. But, those things have worked for me. Oh and plus now I'm up to at least 4 planned days of working out. I really wanna be super successful at this. You can do it. You just need a little boost. Distance yourself from your eating buddies, Try not to eat after 8pm. If you are starving and have to eat drink a Protein shake (low in sugar) or eat some Peanut Butter or nuts. It'll help you get through the night. And no matter what EAT BREAKFAST! And try and stop drinking calories. Those things are what I find has made me successful so far! You can do it!
  10. 7-10 weeks it take your belly to heal, So be careful that is a big cut and will need to be taken care of, Do not push it and just chill and let your body recover, I can say even today i still have issues with some foods, There is a big difference between Yogurt and Cottage Cheese and a 4oz piece of chicken, So i would lay low till atleast week 5 to make sure you are somewhat healed up. F@#ck Food - is my attitude
  11. I had my revision on 12/17/19. I too had complications of GERD from my sleeve that I had almost 13 years ago. Since surgery no GERD. I've been on a liquid diet until yesterday and I was able to start protein shakes with no problem. Prior to the surgery everything including water at times would come up. I lost over one hundred pounds with the sleeve and I did keep it off. I'm currently a bit underweight, but soon I will be able to eat healthier and hopefully live a better life. I must admit the conversion was a bit more painful, but I'm also a lot older too and my body has been traumatized a lot for the last two years. I had my surgery at the # 1 hospital in the country. I won't give the name because I don't want to put something they told me without their permission. Prior to the sleeve I had no problems with GERD. The surgeon told me they no longer do the sleeve there because they have had so many patients come to them for revisions after the sleeve due to GERD. I hope your surgery went as well as mine and you are on the road to recovery.

    Low Vitamin A?

I had my surgery about 5 months ago, January 29, 2019. I'm about to get tested Monday. My eyesight which is usually great, is changing for the worse; I'm also losing a lot of hair, having memory issues and a major problem concentrating. I heard that the eyesight could be because of a vitamin A deficiency. I've been bad about taking my vitamins for a couple of weeks and I still have problems eating enough to reach protein goals. I started the shakes again to increase levels of protein. Good luck and have a great weekend!

I'm at a weight stand still.

Eat breakfast - even if it's a protein shake. Make sure you're getting protein in your soup or salad at lunch and add some fruit, too. Also keep in mind that for every 10 pounds you lose, you need 150 fewer calories to maintain that weight.
  15. II had went to my PCP today and had more blood work done, and my hemoglobin was up from Monday why my pre op blood work was done so my surgen said if I can get my hemo to 10 then I still maybe able to have the surgery in feb or early part of March. I go back for another blood test on Feb 8th hopefully I will be all set, keeping my fingers crossed!
  16. Do you have to stay with gluten free? If not, Bob's Red Mill makes a 10-grain hot cereal that has 24g protein and 20g fiber per cup. A serving is 1/4 cup, so that's 6g protein/5g fiber. I make 1 serving and then add 1/4 scoop vanilla protein powder and a couple tablespoons of of milk that brings the protein up to 12g. Add in a handful of blueberries and some flax seed for even more fiber, and it makes a very filling breakfast.
  17. Know these things...you are beautiful, you are worthy, you are strong, you can do anything you set your mind on! You’ve already tackled the battle, now let’s win the war! Tips from my Dr. Do you have access to a recumbent bike? If you do start using that....slowly 5-10 minutes at first. Work up to walking 1 hr at a time and work up to a brisk walk. I’m still working on both of these too so please don’t feel alone. You’ve got this!
  18. My surgery was scheduled for 10am on April 3rd. I arrived at 8:15 to the same day surgery waiting room, I no more than cracked my book open figuring on at least an hours wait when they called me back and had me undress and put the robe on. The drew blood for last minute tests, and started the IV asked a bunch of questions. Then they brought my husband in and we just watched TV for a bit lol. I was pretty relaxed through the whole thing. The anesthesiologist came in and told me she was going to give me something to relax, and then would give me the main anesthesia in the OR. My surgeon came in and told us a little about the procedure and how when i was asleep they would stand me up and do all sorts of stuff and to check everything, I was like WOAH! So that was the last thing i remember, well that and the nurse putting nipple cream on my lips because my lips were dry and since the anesthesia would make my mouth, throat and lips dry after surgery. So then I woke up in recovery, kept dozing off here and there felt pretty good, no real pain. the highest my pain got was a 5 on their 1-10 scale and even that was just port pain, more when i moved than anything else. I started out in the bed, then moved to the recliner, started on liquids. The nurse came in and checked my vitals and I started walking right then, they were shocked that i jumped out of bed (it was really high! lol) and started walking, no problems at all. I was on morphine pump at that time, but i wasn't too kean on it, it was great for pain, but made me a little naseas. I was taken down for the barium swallow and everything looked great, but that stuff was NASTY! I had to do it twice because they didn't give me enough the first time, which made me pb a little air. no vomiting though. Then when i went back to my room, i tried some apple juice. I must have been drinking too fast and threw that up...not painful, not hacking just kind of like a kid spitting up. Once that was done I was fine. I blame it on the morphine. The switched me to oxycodone and I was fine, and also gave me two doses of anti nausea meds in my iv. No nausea since that one bout. I do have anti nausea pills two different kinds with me at home now. I am taking pills fine, just cut up in half or quarters. I took one oxy last night and switched to tylonol today just for general muscle acheyness. I have been walking every two hours and getting my fluids in. I get gas pains here and there, but nothing bad at all. I would have to say the most pain I have today is maybe a 1.5 and thats if I move suddenly. I slept in my recliner last night just fine and my dh massaged lotion into my lower legs since I hadn't been up to walk during the night and they were sore. But not clot sore, just muscle inactivity sore. It took a while to get released from the hospital because after they took the catheter out I couldn't pee. I tried SO hard. I sat in there for about an hour just praying i could pee because if I didn't they would have to cath me again, in and out cath, but still! So finally I peed and all was good. honestly i would think that i just worked out too hard and had some muscle pain if I didn't look at my stomach and see incisions. i feel pretty good and still don't feel like it's 100% real! lol Hints I learned, I always have a pillow on my lap, the extra pressure even slight makes my incision pain feel really good. Chap stick is a must when you walk, walk with ice chips or sip Water the first few days, your mouth gets SO dry. Gas x strips help a lot when you get a small gas attack. drink those fluids, we are supposed to aim at peeing every 2 hours! i have been able to have cream Soups no problem i can eat about a half to 3/4 of a cup of split pea, but less of cream of potato.
  19. Hi Julia, Dr De Bruyne did my surgery on the 14 Jan 2008, When you have your consultation you will be given dates to choose from there and they are not too long to wait either. It was ver successful the hospital in Belguim will blow you away and he visits with you to check your after care. He is a very professional man - He is very clam and will be firm if he does not think the procedure is suitable for you he will say. Dr De Bruyne is my life saver but you know when I went for my consultation, my mum came to she developed type 2 diabetes when she was 36 and had hell with it ever since - Her health was stable when we went to se Dr De Bruyne . He asked all the questions for her and advised that she was not suitable for the surgery further more he advised that 'if it was my mother I would not let her consider this operation' . He knew that there are surgeons out there that would have done this operation on her. Another reason I reccomend Dr De Bruyne is because he worked in other fields of surgery - Heart . Finally his history with no mortality rate thus far is amazing. I cannot reccomend this surgeon enough and I wish you the very best in your new exciting journey. I have just started my own personal web journey and although it has only been up and running two weeks when other Dr De Bruyne patients hear of it they will sign the book . Who Knows it could be you signing my success book.. The bands used to be 10 years life span but the newer ones are more durable and if Dr Says 15 years I would trust him, His rep is a good one he would not go around messing up is future career I am sure. Bye Julia <<<<<< Big Hugs >>>>>>>>

tomorrow is my last day of eating!

That's what great about this surgery. You WILL be able to eat all your favourites again (in very small quantities). Once you've hit goal, you can treat yourself to a bit of your old favourites now and again to satisfy the craving. As long as you're not over stuffing yourself (which is easy to do with such a tiny stomach!) and leading back to old bad habits. Moderation is something many of us did not have prior to the surgery (which is why we ended up needing the surgery in the first place!). With the new small stomach, and months (for some even 1 year +) of developing new eating habits, coping skills, and a healthy mindset, we are more likely to be able to "give in" to an occasional small treat to bring that moderation into our lives. It's about balance to fully enjoy our lives. I'm approx. 10 months post-op and still 60lbs from goal (down about 125 lbs), but I have a small treat now and then and it keeps me from feeling deprived and "locked in" to a strict and miserable diet. This is just my new life! And if I really want to have that treat, I can always just increase my exercise that day to work it off (which I actually enjoy doing now!).
  22. You can do it. Trust me. I seen my Dr and when I seen him in December he told me I had gained 15lbs since I last see him last year well He gave me till Janurey 3rd to lose 5 to 10 pounds and I didn't think I could because of Christmas and New Year's it felt impossible so after Christmas I cut out soda to start and store eating sweets when I went to see him I lost 10lbs and since I started my liquid diet 10 days ago I have lost an additional 15 lbs and I am completely shocked. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I have my Surgery Tuesday and I am beyond excited to see how much I have lost. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Goal weight

My surgeon didn't really pick a goal. The insurance considers WLS a success if you lose 50% of excess weight, and on average, gastric sleeve patients lose about 70% of excess weight. Since I surpassed that at my one year check, I was considered a success. My doc told me I could do whatever I felt comfortable with - continue to lose, or stay there. To determine excess weight, they look at a normal BMI to determine exactly what excess weight is for any individual, so it will be a range. I would love to get to a BMI below 25 since that's considered "normal" but I've also seen charts that are age adjusted. For me, that could be a BMI up to 27. So I stopped stressing that I'm not below 25 BMI, and I just keep plugging along. The weight is very slowly coming off at about 1-2 pounds a month, and I've made peace with that (for the most part). I look normal, wear a size 10, and am smaller than most women my age. I saw a plastic surgeon who told me I'd lose about 15 pounds with surgery, so if I had that, it would put me at a normal BMI. I don't think it's a one size fits all, I think it's a myriad of things we all have to decide for ourselves.

    Goal weight

I picked one based on what I weighed when I was fit and healthy in my 20's. I was a raft guide and ski instructor back then. My surgeon's dietician picked one based on what, I don't know. (After weighing in, taking measurements and a history from me) I hit her goal last week and I've got 10 more pounds to go for my personal goal.
