Stats for petite people! I’m 5’0 with BMI 40

I started at 5'3 and 320 pounds over BMI of 58 - I didn't go in to get weighed until I lost 10 lbs on my own! After 10 years, I am now 65 years old and am about 5'2" lost over 140 pounds and weigh 172 to 175. My BMI is (adjusted for age) 31. I am still considered overweight/obese. But this is as low in weight as I seem to be able to maintain and be healthy - My doctors are pleased. I am active and healthy ! I know, for some, this may not seem like a "VICTORY" - and I have been criticized even HERE for not losing more weight. I am more than thrilled with my results. I am as excited about buying size 14/16 petite clothing as someone buying size 2 clothing. (Well, I think I am as thrilled !!) I have zero desire to have plastic surgery to remove the extra skin - I have had enough surgeries to not want any more. I am over the moon thrilled with keeping it off and with my results. DO YOU.
  2. Take away 1 shake and add more veggies. Drink water water water and do HITT cardio 3 out of the 5 days. If you don't have a gym membership then walk for 3 min and run as fast as you can for 10 seconds. Do this in intervals for 30 min. Do this for 1 week and I bet the scale moves [emoji6] Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app

    New life

Ok...counting down the days....almost three weeks postop!! I haven't lost hardly ANYTHING since the surgery--but I guess that is normal--the good thing is I haven't GAINED anything yet. It's just that I'm getting a little panicky like I'm not doing enough. Like I need to get my head wrapped around what is going on--or not going on with my weightloss. I am feeling like I could eat ANYTHING right now. I haven't thrown up, PB'd, Slimed or anything yet. Thank GOD for that!! I haven't been trying to test my band really---but if it's soft then I'll eat it. And I can eat ALOT of some things!! I can drink with my meals--no problem. I can do pretty much everything I could do without the band--salad, watermelon, bread. I haven't tried rice yet...or nuts. The "hard stop" feeling that I got the first couple of weeks seems to be passing...so Bandster Hell...HERE I AM! I've set a goal for myself of 10 pounds a month. I'm RIGHT at goal now for my first month post surgery---so I am sensing urgency of NOW is the time to get a grip...and work with my band! I have my first postop appt with my dr tomorrow--I know it's WAY out from surgery, but I've been so sick with pneumonia..etc. that now is the first time I can. Sixteen pounds gone since I was there for my preop appt...which is good, because I haven't obsessed about dieting or food at all. It is changing it's place in my heart from living to eat to eating because I have to. Family vacation is next week in Tennessee...I'm really excited about it and for the first time feel this sense of FREEDOM about it all. With my family--vacations revolve around food---preparation, cleaning up, having enough desserts, more prep, food, food, food. This time I don't feel the panick that I have always felt. It's hard to explain, but the diets to prep for seeing family--then getting there and feeling the excitement and the failure of overeating the whole time. This time---totally different. THIS FEELING OF INDIFFERENCE towards food is the EXACT reason I needed the band. The chains are starting to loosen their hold. I got my hair done Saturday! It's DARK and totally different but I love the cut. The color will take some getting used to. ) But I love the new look and fresh start feeling. And I went shopping for some capris. I didn't get a smaller size yet, but I liked my reflection in the mirror. My tushi is getting smaller!! :oD

    New and Nervous. ..

Hi TC44055 My daughter(19) had plication surgery Dec.31/12 and is down a total of 52.6 lbs! She still has about another 50 to go, but is doing very well...I am soooo proud of her. We were both very nervous(I think I was worse!) right up to the moment she went in....she was uncomfortable for about a week. Her biggest complaint throughout the whole thing, was how extremely tired she was the first month....she would wake up and just want to sleep... she was frustrated the first while, cause she was hungry, but things didnt agree with her..I think she tryed to eat to much, and to heavy of foods the first while...now all is good. Follow the doctors orders, do not try to eat more, or do more then they advise. I do not know of any chat groups...Good luck!

    Dont wanna tell a soul...

I too believe that this is a very personal decision and not everyones business. I only told my mom, grandparents, boyfriend, and best friend. No co-workers for sure, I will definately be the topic of conversation if they find out. Plus, I do not want the negativity, only positive thoughts coming my way. I cant wait, my surgery date is 8-9-10 !!! :bolt:

    Dont wanna tell a soul...

Have surgery date set for 8/19. Have only told hubby and daughter so far. I will tell my son and I think that will be all. My boss is a health fanatic and exercise freak. He's 81 yearls old and keeps telling me I have to lose weight because its unhealthy. I definately will not tell him bcause he will be very judgmental about my decision for surgery. I do not feel the need to explain to him my reasons for doing this. I need to take 1 week off so I'm deciding what to tell him. I don't get paid for sick days but I have to give him some excuse. Any suggestions? cat lady

    Soda

Carbonation is not recommended for those with the band. My understanding is that it can cause the new "pouch" to expand and/or the band to slip. However, I still have not been able to kick the habit - drink soda every day. *cringing* I've been banded 19 mos and did well in the beginning staying away from soda - then old habits creeped back up and caught me! Still working on kicking the habit once and for all. Some banders cannot tolerate carbonation - unfortunately, I can; however, that doesn't mean that my band or pouch is going to be able to tolerate it forever.
  10. it seems like forever, and yet so quick that i've come to this point. I made the decision to look into Bariartric Surgery last march, had my informative meeting in May, began classes in July..... got accepted to the Prep Study (more intense weekly visits with a diet coach assigned to me) in August. Did all the testing i needed then some. I have a personal family doctor that is so supportive and proactive in my care. Turned into the Insurance for approval on February 11th,...... heard that i was approved February 16th and scheduled the day on February 19...... I am having Surgery on March 19th at Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh Pa with Doctor Anital Corcoulas.... i was in no hurry.... learned so much... lost about 15 pounds from last FEb to Jul and lost about another 25 lbs since August...... I didn't have a date in mind.......and if it would have taken another few months to get my date.......then i figured that God wanted me to wait..... I am so scared and so excited all at once..... and i am going to make a big effort in not experiencing the "last supper syndrome"....... wow its almost here

    Fill Comparison Survey

I have a 10 cc band. My first fill at 5 weeks postop was 3.5 cc and I felt some good restriction for about 2 weeks and then it disappeared. My second fill was 1.25 cc around 10 weeks postop which was about 5 weeks ago. I got really really good restriction at that time and still do, lost 21 lbs since then.
  13. Hi I live in south central Ma on the CT border but RI is only a 10 minute ride for me. My surgery date is Nov 16th. I started the pre-op liquid diet on Saturday. I am very excited about my new life! Hope to find a buddy here. Good luck to everyone! Could someone tell me how I can get a weight tracker that I have seen many people have?
  14. I know this is an old topic, but I had my surgery on 2/15 with Dr. Au. I also went thru 1-800-Get-Thin and Dr. Au has been super informative everytime I've seen him before, during & after surgery. I am just bummed he doesn't go to the San Diego office otherwise I'd keep him for all my fills, but Dr. Ravden at that office has been good too. But I'm glad I went thru this company they have been great!! Already down 10 lbs since the surgery and feeling great! Best to luck to everyone as we all go thru this journey together.
  15. I'm getting ready to go out for the night -- my friend is having a fashion show tonight so I want to look extra good! For the first time in I don't know how long, I liked the first outfit I tried on (unlike trying on 10 different options and finally giving up). Looking in the mirror I thought to myself, I actually look pretty good! Guess that's what 46.5 pounds and a better attitude about myself with do! Now off to enjoy the night!!
  16. I'm proof that it's different for everyone. I have 5.9 in a 10 band and I have great restriction. I eat eggbeaters with cheese for breakfast, a salad with chicken breast for lunch and 1/2 chicken breast or fish with 1.2 yam and veggies for dinner. I usually have one snack of Greek yogurt with honey dribbled on top. No more than a cup of food at a time and 64+oz. of water a day. Hope this helps...Best wishes!!!

What are you guys eating for protein?

I eat lots of eggs and meat. I have an egg and a piece of bacon every morning for Breakfast, assuming I can get it down. I have found that coffee, even with lots of milk, causes esophageal spasms and that means I can't eat. I read that hot and cold foods can cause esophageal spasms which leaves lukewarm food for us. But it takes me so long to eat anything that I'm getting used to cold food. Also unjury is good for Protein. I mix it with milk with my handy, dandy little hand blender that I got at Wal-Mart, and it's good. If I'm really having spasms, I drink Unjury. I have found that if I'm eating meat, it helps to have it really soft, so I bake stuff like chicken sealed tin foil and it goes down pretty well. Today we had chicken and dressing (dressed up Stovetop Stuffing), some cranberry jelly and green peas. I was able to eat all but the peas. Of course it took about a hour to eat the chicken and stuffing, and I gave a lot to the dogs but it worked. You might try eating really soft meat. I put a little Water in with chicken and pork chops and stuff and bake it a long time (1-1 1/2 hours) and it works pretty well. A crockpot is really good for this stuff. A friend of mine had 7 ccs in a 10 cc band and was having lots of trouble. She wasn't losing any weight. So she had an unfill to 2 ccs and is feeling much better. I have 5 ccs in my 10 cc band and I have trouble getting stuff down. I think it's best not to overfill the band. We also concluded that you have to eat to lose weight. for the last two weeks, I have been sick as a dog with some sort of mutant ninja cold and couldn't eat much at all. I didn't lose a pound. So eating is good if you want to lose weight. Eggs are a good source of protein and you can scramble them so they are easy to get down. I don't worry at all about fats and stuff like that and I've lost 30 pounds since May. My students are telling me that I'm going to dry up and blow away, but I still have 30 pounds to go. I eat just about anything I want to including Cookies and cheesecake (I found this wonderful creme brulee cheesecake at Wal-Mart) and I'm still losing weight. I try to stick to protein though with a little cheesecake and it seems to work. Good luck to you.

    Pre-op Optifast Help!

I have my surgery scheduled on May 21, 2009. And my Dr. gave me a list of 'rules' for the pre-op... 1. One Metaucil Capsule can be takedn at 10:00 am and one at 3:00 pm for hunger pangs 2. A green salad (no colors other than GREEN!) may be consumed, unlimited. Broccoli, bell paper, cucumber, celery, jicama, asparagus, minimal tomato & mushroom and salad spritzer, up to 5 calories. 3. One chromium Piclinate 400mcg per day can be taken for fat-burning purposes. I am only required to do a ONE week pre-op diet. But you may want to ask your Dr or Nutritionist if these tips are applicable for you! Good Luck!!!

    One Step Down...

    I have failed the sleeve

I follow these rules but every doc/nut. Is different, 6-800 calories , 64 ounces water, 30 or less fat and 40 grams if carbs. At 9-12 months (maintenance) 8-1000 calories and 65 grams of protein. I lose 10-12 pounds then stall for 3-4 weeks (which is really needed) I've lost 61 pounds in 6 months (Monday is 6 months) and I've gone from a 20/22 to a size 10/12 petite . Hope this helps, don't give up!

    A year to get fit....

@MsTipps Thank you for the tips on places to visit. We haven't really scheduled exactly what we want to do yet. I was kind of hoping to meet some locals and ask their opinions. I like to do things that are off the beaten path and not necessarily what a lot of the Taurus are going to fly over there to see. And, you are so right. A lot of this comes down to mind over matter so you can do this! It's also good to tie the event to something meaningful because that helps to keep you motivated so the charity piece is great! VSG 10/11/17 HW = 360 SW = 292 GW = 220 3/7/18 CW = 216.6 (6'5") [emoji256]

    Questions

Find out what your insurance requires. Some insurances don't require monitored weight loss, but most do. From 3 months-1 year. Some insurances that don't require the monthly weight loss instead have a percentage you have to lose to be approved (though some of the monitored weight loss insurances have this too). My insurance was different then yours and it required a 6 month monitored weight loss program, but did not have a requirement to lose weight (you just couldn't GAIN weight). You can actually generally ask the insurance coordinator at the bariatric office what your insurance requires if you don't want to call your insurance yourself. After they send the paperwork in to the insurance it takes 2-3 weeks to approve and then they'll give you a surgery date. So really it depends on 1. your insurance, and 2. how long they're scheduled out for (because I got approved at the end of November 2019, but my surgery was scheduled 2 months later on January 23 2020. So my wait from my first bariatric consultation until surgery was 8 months). The time actually goes by pretty fast. Or, at least it did for me. I ended up losing 68 pounds in that 8 month period so... I was productive lol.

    One Year Post Opp Update

I am almost 4 weeks post-op with gastric bypass and I would have to agree with all the comments you made. Of course, I can't speak yet about further down the road but the pre-op and right after pre-op are spot on. I too was worried I was putting my life on the line and frankly did not go ahead with my surgery 10 years earlier because of my fear of leaving my 3 children without a mother. Even though complications do occur my fears were absolutely irrational. The statistics simply did not support my "hypothetical horrors." Most of us are low risk patients and recovery is much much easier then a c-section or even childbirth. From the minute I came home from the hospital (2 day stay) I required no pain meds except for 1 single pill of Tylenol on 3 separate occasions and it was for a headache and two stupid incidents of trying to lift/push things that were too heavy on that first week home. Because I felt fine, I was forgetting I couldn't do all that I wanted to do. The biggest annoying thing at this point is getting enough fluids in. You have to keep sipping all day and I forget. This is not bad and my 33 lbs weight loss is a dream come true. I can go up the stairs without my knees hurting and my blood pressure is normal. I FEEL GREAT. Hardest day: First day of pre-op diet. I felt hungry just like you do when you start a diet, since then I never looked back. Post-op not hungry at all. Eat to live but no longer live to eat. I LOVE MY WLS (weight loss surgery).
