Congratulations on your speedy weight loss! How are you feeling?

You won't be able to do curves until you are healed, which I believe is at least 2 months..you can probably do walking and some other aerobic excercises..but curves has a lot of weight lifting which is out until your body is healed.

Large.and.sick.of.it posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello all, I am new to the board and seeking some guidance and advice. I have gained so much weight and regardless what I do or dont do I cannot change and my number keep going up!! I am 36 and growing up was heathy weight then grew an obsession with being thin and developed anorexia. It stuck with me until early 20's. Since then I have been gaining weight. Right now I am 5'9" and about 240 pounds. I feel so horrible, worthless, unworthy person among many more feelings. I have been diagnosed wiyh fibromyalgia, chronic pain, insomnia, knee, ankle, back pain and depression. I honestly feel so helpless and worthless. I cannot even bare to be intiminate with my hubby, that is just wrong. I have tried every diet, life style changes, coaches, groups, books, workout sets/methods and with little or no changes . I am thinking of surgery. What are great tips and ways to get the ball rolling? Is there a slower weightloss surgery that would prevent or limit the saggy skin? I need help. Thank you -

I agree: attend a weight loss surgery seminar in your area. Many of your questions will be answered. I found it helpful to read The Big Book on the Gastric Sleeve: Everything You Need to Know to Lose Weight and Live Well with the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. There are books from the same author on the other surgies, too. I have another book I havent read yet, Mindset Breakthrough: Achieve Weightloss Surgery Success. This last one was written by a bariatric surgery patient, so consider her individual results when reading. Youve made the decision to do something, so thats a big first step! God luck in your journey[emoji4] -
Thanks for the insight, everyone, so I'm just gonna sum it up by saying that slim fast is a no go. I had the bypass and was trying to find ways to get my protein in and increase my weight loss since I was told by my nutritionist that I was below the weight loss expectations.

What month did you lose the most?
JRaye replied to laura1116's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have my surgery next week and am pretty much exactly where you started - same age, height and weight. How are you doing now? How has this whole process been for you? I am anxious to hear where I might be in six months! -
Losing faith in myself
lisaanewme67 replied to India928's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 days post op & trust me I struggled with the preop phase...I felt I had to get it all "in" before I had to change my life forever. I did give it my best the last pre-op week However, once you have the surgery, everything will fall into place very easily. Just slow down STOPP jumping the gun so to say. This is not an overnight process. If you fall Into the wrong habits post op, you will pay so it will only take u once to make that mistake. i dont mean weight gain, i mean pain, your body will reject anything it shouldn't have!!! One day at a time. Take this process all in and you will be fine. TRUST me, I been where you are but I'm here now and its GREAT. You are aware of it and not in denial which is s HUGE step!! -
Just Really Need Some Assistance With This Whole Weight Thing
yellowrose88 replied to queenv319's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to hear about your situation. Alcohol has a ton of calories which could be a factor for not losing weight. Also if you are not getting what you want from your doctor then yes I would find another one. I have been blessed with my doctor and so I know there are good ones out there. Good luck! -
Considering revision
Dream4tc replied to general_antiope's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was banded in 2011 and lost 80 pounds never quite got to my goal weight before I started having problems. Throwing up multiple times daily, bad acid reflux to the point I was needing 8 pillows to prop me up to sleep, frustrated. I was too tight at one point from the swelling from vomiting so much, that I had to get all fluid removed emergently so I could swallow my own saliva. I ended up getting all fluid removed and esophageal manometry done. I have a separate post about that experience. The manometry showed I had a slip. That was the documentation I needed in order to get a revision for mybinsurance to cover my revision. There needs to be documentation to support another surgery need. Unless you are cash pay. I initially wanted sleeve because I thought it was the best option....however after speaking with my surgeon, he told me that I would more than likely have problems with severe reflux due to the pressure from the sleeve and since I was already miserable from the severe reflux I had, I wasn't about to have to deal with any more. I also have several friends who had sleeve done and have significant regain with reflux issues. He said revising to RNY would resolve reflux and I wouldn't ever have to deal with that issue. I decided that was the best choice for me. I was revised to RNY back in 2015 and SO Happy! No reflux which is awesome! I can eat spicier foods again. I have lost a total of 125 pounds and at my goal weight of 175. I am also a Zumba Instructor and teach Zumba 4 days per week. I keep my protein first, then veggies and fruit. I take my vitamins daily and actually have not been sick as much either since revision. I have not had any issues. Love my RNY ❤ I only wished I had done RNY to start with. Do your homework, ask questions and decide what is right for you. Best of luck to you! -

October is going to be a crazy month for me- Got my date!
RebecaSparkles replied to RebecaSparkles's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So had my meeting with the Nut, b/c I did so well on my mandatory 6 month "diet" I only have to do 7 day pre op liquid diet. I was thinking maybe I.'d do a little longer so as to kick start my loss... Or maybe not... I just got back from Chicago where I had food funeral extravaganza. pizza at Pequods, pie at Joe's seafood & steaks, donuts at Glazed & Infused & ice cream at oberweis, ribs at Smoque, cupcakes at More. Needless to say I gained 4#, but still according to my weigh-ins didn't gain. Good spacing of appointments on my part. Now waiting & counting down. Feeling like anti-climatic. Like I don't want to get worked up about it because its not real. Little annoyed bc my surgeon thinks I'll only get down to 140# & I recall 140 & remember feeling just as gross & fat as I feel now but w/much smaller boobs. I'm doing this so in the future I can have babies safely but theres like a 75% chance that wont happen for me so I guess I also am doing this to be hott for myself. Like I've always been fat, I want to be hot damn it. -
October is going to be a crazy month for me- Got my date!
WeighDownSouth replied to RebecaSparkles's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love that ending. Darn it, I want to be hot too. I'd likely settle for not embarrassing my children at the beach. Seriously though, I almost killed myself in my twenties getting into a size 12. I'd love to see what an 8 or (gasp) a 6 would look like. I'd like for once, to be able to wear a belt with jeans and tick in my shirt. I think that will be my goal weight present. I want a shiny belt buckle:-). Of course, the road to hot begins next month!!!!! -
So life has been pretty interesting, I'm losing weight but, no longer crave food lie I used to. I'm not getting enough food in, or calories, I do drink a lot of water, and still supplement a protein shake a day, almost 3 months out, last check in was Oct. 30, at that time I'd lost 55+lbs. I don't weigh myself at home refuse to own a scale at this point, would like to get down to at least at least 100lb lost before I buy a scale. But sometimes the suspense does kill me, I would not be good having a scale in the house because I'd weigh myself everyday, which is why I've set restrictions on that. My last Dr appt he wanted me.to increase my meals to 4 to 6 a day because of my calorie intake ranges around 450 a day, on a good day. I struggle because eating is more like a chore now, and bothersome to me. I don't forget to drink, but I do forget to eat sometimes. Life has been crazy, my car was stolen, insurance is dragging it out and making me feel like it's my fault, in more debt because I had to buy a new car, and probably will have a small Christmas for my kids if I can manage it. Just been a horrible time, but I'm still working on me and will succeed.

What was your preop diet?
PixelToph replied to Brenda Sherwood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to drink 2 Protein shakes per day and have a healthy dinner. Light meal the day before surgery. However, the purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver. I lost a lot of weight pre-op, so my surgeon said my liver probably wouldn't shrink much more, so I didn't have to do a strict diet. -
Diet while pregnant
thereisonly1sara replied to Candyapple's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I'm almost 7 months post op and I am 17 weeks preggo... I have not gained any weight yet, I have continued to lose... not a lot but still losing. This is my 4th child and I feel like this pregnancy is probably the healthiest out of all. I feel like a normal pregnant woman (if that makes sense) I just have a normal preggo belly... before I just looked like an overweight person. I habe had no issues with eating... my appetite has picked up a bit. I still get my protein in and I have had a few "unhealthy cravings" that I have given into, but nothing I feel ashamed about. I had an ultrasound on Wednesday and my baby boy is healthy as can be... so my doc is not worried at all. Good luck with your pregnancy! -
I went to an "herb" remedies guy about two weeks ago. Some people call him a quack because he believes in herb instead of medications. As soon as I sit in front of him, he drew a picture of my legs without me saying anything. He asked my name and I explained the drop foot. He instantly drew 6 dots on the picture. Thee on my leg leg inside calf and 4 on my abdomen. He said I have 6 Vitamin E oil..they are in a get cap and I bite into it and spit out the gel caplet. He said it would dissolve the blood clots. I've been on the Vitamin E for two weeks and can lift my drop foot up and down when I'm not putting weight on it. He said it could take up to two months. My doctors back home are skeptical but everyone that goes to him say he has always been 100% on the nose and corrected their problem. He told my mom she had internal bleeding....next week, she went to the dr and has a bleeding ulcer which they fixed that week. His name is Bruce Joneshill from Rosebud, Arkansas. I do believe he is the real thing. He prays before he tells you what is going on. He is a Christian. My BP still runs around 85/55. My family dr thinks its dehydration. So, I'm taking the advice of both, taking the Vitamin E and drinking more Water.

I think I messed up
losingjusme replied to 817javi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi. no idea if you 'messed up' your band. the reason for the post op diet is to have the band 'settle' into place and the internal sutures to heal, not weight loss. my advice, just stick with liquids until your surgeon tells you to progress to mushies. start mushies very slowly and go with true mushies, mashed potatoes maybe, something really really mushy and build yourself up to more non-mushy mushies. chicken is very difficult for a lot of bandsters. what you are feeling sounds almost like you are 'stuck'. if its still a problem, SIP some pineapple juice, that helps some. good luck! -
So, I've never belonged to a gym before. I have (errr had) one on my work premises for us employees to use for free. When I was 280 lbs I didn't care about that. Now that I'm 211 and still very much focused on losing most of my workplace was shut down, gym included. (oh the irony). I had my 3 month check up with my dr, and while he's very pleased with my progress thus far (45% of excess weight, gone!!) He does want me to step up my exercising. I'm thinking of joining Planet Fitness, there is one on my way home from work, and I like how it's a 24/7 facility. My long drawn out question would be- any positive or negative reviews of this gym? Are there people who would be helpful to a gym newbie such as myself? Also, what workouts, or machines have you found most beneficial. I'm 27 with no joint or health problems (other than that pesky obesity issue I'm correcting, hahaha). Thank you!

It is scary isnt it? I think that realisation was my defining moment in losing weight, I always read the stories and wished I could have a light bulb moment, but it never happened. Then one day, I was feeling really scared about the surgery, trying to decide whether I wanted to do it or not. In a moment of complete self honestly, I realised that what I was scared of was not being able to stuff a packet of chocolate biscuits down my cake hole. Did I really want to give up that guilty pleasure? I suddenly realised that I *did* use food to cope with stress. I realised that I did get something out of eating like that, it was enjoyable and comforting and I chose to do it for that reason. It became clear to me that the reason why i was having trouble deciding to have the surgery was becuase i wanted to leave myself an out, I wanted to choose not to eat that way but still be able to! And of course, following on from that was the knowledge that if I ever wanted to lose weight and keep it off, that behaviour had to disappear forever, lapband or not. After that, it was easy to make the decision and not feel scared.

I lost 100 lbs before and totally freaked out I did not know who I was and what I was suppose to do with myself. I was very emotional and kinda bitchy too. I did not know how to relate to people I spent a lot of time in the corner of my bedroom floor crying. Since then a lot of years have gone by and of course the weight came back. But in the past 5 years I spend 2½ years in counseling and hope I can deal with it this time. But if I can't I know just who to book an appointment with. This was the one concern my husband had when I talked about getting this surgery. Was if I felt I needed help that I would see my counselor again and I agreed. I liked being thin but it was not me or something crazy like that. I had no walls up around me and I did not like that.

Hi. I too wanted the band at first then I like you leaned of the "sleeve". I like the fact that there was good weight loss, no nutrition problems to speak of and little if any side effects. I was sold. However I had been told that my health insurance may not pay for the surgery. I was bummed out to say the least. But my wonderful doctor (Neff) submitted all my paper work from the V.A. (I am X Navy) and low and behold they approved me for the VSG on the first try. One month later I had my surgery. My surgaversity date is 10-27-09. I am considered a "light weight" as my weight and BMI were borderline for qualification. However I had so many co-morbidities that I qualified! That was seven moths ago. I am very glad I did this. the time will go bay quickly. Just keep researching and putting into practice all you can learn so that when the BIG day arrives you will be an expert on it.

I did preop diet 2 weeks. Mine consisted of liquid protein drinks 4 x per day for 3 days then I could substitute one protein drink with a garden fresh salad daily starting day 4. I wasnt hungy at all. I can only find my protein drinks at Sams and they are Premier protein with 30g protein 1gm sugar and 160 calories. They come in choc and vanilla. I was taking in less than 700 calories a day and lost about 12 or 13 lbs preop. I was told its to get the fat out of the liver to reduce risk of damaging the liver during surgery. The weight loss feels good though.
