How long are you missing work?

I know that it's going to suck. I'm more worried about dropping off my 3 y/o to daycare and having to climb that flight of stairs. I'm considering asking the director if I can't bring her in another entrance that is ground level that they don't typically utilize for pick-up/drop-off for the first week back. 19 year old me went through a laparoscopic gallbladder removal and was grocery shopping the same night and returned to a more physically demanding job than I have now within two-three days. When I had my first baby, I returned to work in a couple of weeks, so I think I'm either stupid or hard-headed. -

I’m taking 3 weeks off. I was sleeved in 2017. At that time I arranged 2 weeks off. Didn’t feel ready to go back to a job on my feet most of the day, so I took a 3rd. This time I’m starting with 3 weeks. I’m sleeve to RNY on 5/6. -

9 days out, 8 oz of soup?
Rachel_Hannah replied to jademanke@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone's body is different. The size of your sleeve is directly related to the size of your stomach before surgery. I can drink a 11.5oz premier protein in 3 hours by sipping consistently and I'm almost 3 weeks post op. For the first week, I could only handle 2 oz every 2-3 hours. Now for water I can drink up to 8 oz per hour as long as I'm sipping slowly. When I eat pureed foods or semi-soft foods, I can only eat 2.5-3 oz. I don't tolerate ground meat too well, but I can tolerate scrambled eggs that are soft cooked and refried beans when they're thinned out a bit. -

I only work 2 days a week… and we self schedule. So I just figured mine up last night ..If I miss 2 days of work (PTO days). I will have a total of 17 days off before I have to return. That’s doable 😊 -
Can you lose restriction after surgery???
catwoman7 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
you'll have swelling the first few weeks which really limits how much you can eat. After that all goes down, from what I understand, it does loosen up a bit over time, but not THAT much, unless you're chronically overstuffing it. -
Hello! I hope this last week is a quick one and no last minute surprises! Who are you going to?

All set to go next Monday. I saw the Surgeon this morning and also paid the Surgeons Bill and the anesthetic guys as well. The surgeon mentioned this morning that he would also check on my hernia while he was in there. One place I needed to go had a lift that was broken. I needed to walk up two levels. I am glad that they had chairs on each level. I always go red in the face. Other people had no problem with the stairs. Hopefully that will be me in the future. Anyway another week to go on the optifast Diet. It has all gone pretty well. Hears to all of us. WE GOT THIS.

I'm definitely going to. My employer was ok-ish with me taking off a week, but when I said it might lead to 2 weeks they said absolutely not. So something that can protect me (and my job) if I need more time is exactly what I need. -

FMLA is federal and it seems you met the criteria for working 12 months or 120 hours. Once approved you have up to 12 weeks you can use if memory serves. Please do Google it first tho and then go to work and ask them for FMLA paperwork to fill out so you have it to cover you in case you have any problems after your surgery. Its a good protection net for employees from employers that get pissy lol -
Possible stricture and the dressed foamies

I'm glad to hear you got it fixed up. How long did it take for your surgeon to fix? It's been about two weeks for me and it just sucks. Even now in the hospital, they keep pushing back the date. Also, afterwards did you have to keep doing liquid or could you do pureed? Sent from my LE2125 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Just a heads up, may happen again (I want to say twice, but NOTHING like the first time….The new normal (every other day or so) started a few weeks after surgery. Now…normal (daily) if I’m walking a lot and getting fluids in. First few weeks of new things can be a doozy (wait until the hormones go all wacky!). After you settle in, things start to go back to normal, just eating a whole lot less! -
Nothing tooooooo exciting here on the clothes front - Just a new lined rain coat (the lighter one from Florida was not holding up to the two weeks of rain, chill and overcast trip in central Pennsylvania + Philadelphia over Easter vacation. AND, Ms.sss, were you slender in your original wedding gown? Let's see a pic? I think a vow renewal for the new you would be WONDERFUL! This was chubby (size 14) me back in 1994. Oh well. ;[

I found so many of the broths so gross! Especially bone broths. I live on pho and was very happy. Don’t dread liquids too Much, one day at a time. It’s really not that bad. And it’s only a few weeks out of the whole process. You got this.

Its been a while since I’ve posted any OOTD’s on here…part laziness, part no new real shopping done in months. So…looking to wake up this thread and bring it back to its former glory when it was a trending topic for months (remember that??) As it is, it remains one of my faves threads on here (this and the Food Before and After thread!) Sooooo… here we go: for those who know me, I LOVe to try on wedding dresses (been trying to convince Mr. to marry me again for forever, but that’s another story, lol). On a recent mini-vacay a couple weeks ago, i did just that at nowhere other than Klienfelds, NY of Say Yes to the Dress fame! And no, Randy was not there, hahahha. I tried on maybe 10-ish dresses, but this one was my fave. Price tag: $6500 USD if you’re wondering (and no, i didn’t buy it, nor do i plan to, it was just for funsies!!). Now your turn!!! I wanna see some clothes please!

I guess the subject says it all! I have my follow-up with the doctor this week, so I’m sure I could ask then, but I’m just curious what you guys have done. Seems like a good idea, net carbs are low and I could add protein powder. Any reason this might be a bad idea?

Will I ever have my favorites again ??
Esi replied to PM2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The first few weeks are so hard. Not only is your whole food outlook changed, but you are at the most limiting point after surgery that you will ever be. It gets so much better! I did weigh and measure in the first few months, but now I can eyeball things. With the exception of no added sugar, nothing is off-limits. So when my family gets fast food, I eat a few of my children’s fries. Yet somehow because of the surgery, that is enough to satisfy me. No deprivation. Not having sweets and desserts became hard after a few months (The first few months, I had so much artificial sweetener that it made me sick). So, I found sugar free Russell Stover chocolates, as well as sugar-free Lilly’s brand. When I want something sweet, I reach for these, and a small amount satisfies me. I don’t miss cake, pie, brownies, etc. anymore. I don’t drink alcohol or coffee, but I use decaffeinated tea. -
Yes! Shipping typically takes about a week, and I place an order every 4 to 6 weeks to buy enough to get free shipping. I also buy items on sale, and have points earned to take $5 to $10 off each order. I have used both the ProCare and Bariatric Pal vitamins with iron. Capsules one a day. Both great. Chewables nasty. Patches weren’t recommended by my nutritionist. Also Bariatric Pal calcium chews. They taste like chocolate caramel Starburst. They feel like a dessert. Also Syntrax protein powders. I have not had problems with items being out of stock. And one time, a protein powder arrived that had broken open during shipping. They sent a new one.

@colocoral, I think a lot of surgeons still do the liquid/clear fluids diet because it shrinks the liver so significantly and makes surgery that much easier. 🤷🏼♀️ Anything that makes my surgery safer is doable for me. Thank goodness it’s only 1 week.
