Will see how it goes and report back. I'm anxious for some reason, to the point of getting heartburn. They said expect this first appt to be 2 1/2-3 hrs. I've done WW off and on for years...know how to track, now just need to learn how to change what I'm eating to be in-line with bariatric surgery. It will be eye opening in sure, as like many people out there, even eating healthy includes carbs like bread, fruit and yogurt. Wish me luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi there! I am just over two weeks postop. Recovery is going great. I've been able to tolerate everything that I've consumed (drinks & food). I had a slight complication during surgery (a leak in my small intestine), but he fixed me up in surgery and I haven't had a problem at all. Im getting around really well, too - I just get fatigued quickly. So far, so good! Good luck along your journey, and if you have any questions, I'd be glad to help. xoHi monster, I am 8 days post SIPS and I feel fabulous! I spent the day planning runny Beans meals, Protein drinks and Greek yogurt meals (totalling 75 grade protein!) Surgery date 4.5.16 weight 255.4. Weight this morning 246.2! Girl you know that is what this journey is all about. I am happy with my decision. Check in with your bariatric team as often as you need to. We are here for you! Struggling truck driver post op
FrankyG replied to LadiiReignBeau's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can't stop off at a WalMart that has a grocery? They are usually near freeways, HUGE parking lots where you can park a semi or large truck for a few minutes - just park it a bit away and get some walking in to boot. Check out the deli counter and surrounding area where you could get meats, chicken salad, or Soups. There is also lots of small containers of yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese sticks... Any IHOP, Cracker Barrel, or Denny's restaurant can do up some scrambled eggs with cheese (and later sausage/bacon). I ate that for Breakfast and lunch. And most of those places serve soups too. And definitely pack a cooler or fridge installed if you'd like to save money or time. Love the idea of getting a small one that runs off of the truck's electrical. -
You can still eat these foods if you're willing to modify them a little! Try chicken alfredo with zucchini or spaghetti squash noodles and a Greek yogurt alfredo! Or make a good mac and cheese sauce with real cheese and serve it over cauliflower. It's not the exact same, but you can really get the same flavors with lower calorie alternatives.

Struggling truck driver post op

I agree. In addition to Protein shakes, cottage cheese, and yogurt you could pack tuna packets, turkey, etc. If you must eat at fast food restaurants, go for lean Proteins like turkey, tuna, chicken, egg, etc. You can get turkey sandwiches or similar, without bread at Arby's, Subway, etc. Wendy's chili is a great choice. You can get chicken or eggs at McDonald's. Once you are cleared for more solid foods you will have more options. -

Maybe the best thing to do wpuld be keep a cooler with you with shakes and yogurts and stuff a long with Protein powders. I am work at a factoring company where we do the receivables for truckers. We purchase their loads once done so they get paid immediately instead of having to wait. I actually have two truckers as clients who have had WLS surgery and both keep coolers in their trucks full of shakes cottage cheese and so on. One even has a case of Beans at all times. They have done really well. Hoping that helps a little Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using the BariatricPal App -

Planning my Post-Op Pantry
JupiterinVirgo replied to Katje Voo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After surgery, more than just the amount of food you can take in changes. Many people report having a real significant change in the foods they prefer. Most bariatric surgeons recommend a high-protein diet that is very dense. I did not think this would be a problem for me as I have always been a big eater of meat. But now four months after surgery, my body asks me for things I rarely eat before that: fruits like pomegranate seeds, grapes, and oranges. Nuts, like cashews and seeds, like sunflower seeds. For a while the staples of my diet where protein cheeses and yogurts, but then my body stopped wanting that as well. The guidelines given by most surgeons will definitely help you lose the weight, but my personal opinion is that we should all be flexible and stay in tune with what our bodies are actually asking for post surgery. It is not uncommon to have nutritional deficiencies that a multivitamin cannot account for. It is important to listen to your cravings. Maybe not so much a cupcake cravings, but things that are not on the plan after you are cleared to eat any food that you want, will help your body have the materials it needs to make up for whatever compensation and deficiencies are fluctuating as the weight falls off your body. The amount of food you can eat at any given time is so small, that you will find it does not sabotage your weight-loss efforts if you eat an orange for lunch instead of three bites of chicken. But it will make a big difference to your body. -
Planning my Post-Op Pantry
FocusOnMeNow replied to Katje Voo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Premier protein shakes: at least 18 of every flavor. Pre-op I only liked chocolate, post-op I couldn't phathom anything but vanilla. I'm 7.5 months out and still have a vanilla every morning. Vitamin Water Zero Orange Rise is the bomb. I bought 48 pre-op and I still drink these. If there is a whole foods near you they have "Bone Broth" and "Bone Stock" in both chicken and turkey flavors. They even have 8oz containers of it. And these "bone" broths have 9-14 g of protein for 8oz. You will get sick of sweet shakes so having something salty is a god send. Also Dannon Greek light and Fit Yogurt in Strawberry Cheesecake was also a god send and I was allowed to eat yogurt on my Drs version of "full liquids". -
I'm doing the premier Protein shakes. I guess for now I'll stick with cottage cheese and yogurt. I'm going to add Beans. I'll give them a try. Thank you for your help Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Terrible reflux after eating & vomiting
MojoCAMI replied to Shell ????'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Proud2BeMe speaks the truth, Reflux is real, I did not think I would get it, but I did.. I learned the hard way... sometimes you can predict it, other times you can't but you will get better at knowing your body and what combinations or times of day cause it.. My wake up call came, one night when I had a yogurt cup before bed, I ate the yogurt then stayed up for 10-15min, then went to bed.. about 30min later, "hack hack, cough, hack hack, cough belch burp.. hack vomit".. since then when i know I am going to eat something late, I take my reflux pills.. Early on post surgery, I took them because that was what I was told.. I backed off after the frist 40days... and it was about 2months post surgery when the yogurt happened... So now reflux pills are just part of my routine when I know i am going to be eating late, or something spicy for dinner. -
What signs should I look for to know I'm full?
uberbuffaloegal replied to numeby2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi numby2017, I am just a bit ahead of you at 5 weeks today. At 10 days I was able to get alot of liquids, Soup and yogurt in. I thought the surgery was a fail. Now on soft food, I feel a pressure, that's when I know to stop or the food will come up. I rarely can eat more than a couple ounces of food and liquids are even going down slowly now. Surgery was a complete success, although, I have wicked head hunger. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
High Protein Diet vs. Counting Calories?
Kindle replied to carolina07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@determinedtolive let us know how the Paleo goes. Since dairy, legumes and peanuts are off the list, there's no way I could do it. Greek yogurt, cheese, milk, whey-based protein shakes, peanut butter, tofu and soy are just too much of a staple for getting in my protein. The dairy was especially important in the early days. Not to mention they are all the things I love. -
Hard to say! I have a Protein shake and a Protein Bar each day. Then I typically have a Lean Cuisine or Atkins frozen dinner emphasizing veggies and protein for dinner, 8-9oz. A greek yogurt now and then. I also eat some fruit, and some whole grains/fiber, like: slice of protein enriched bread w/peanut butter, or an over-easy egg, or a little chicken salad bowl of Cheerios or All-Bran or Post Shredded Wheat & Bran with organic fat-free milk Fiber enriched low sugar oatmeal with wild blueberries I am basically just trying to eat healthy and light, probably average 1000 calories or so. That's not very much, so I am losing weight about the same rate I did before surgery.

Thanks all - Glad I'm not alone. I've had very minor palpitations for years, but they sprung up in intensity and frequency... along with my blood pressure. I thought it might be Vitamin D or something else, until I read this: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=106852601&page=1 I have an appointment with my nutritionist this week (my last one before submitting for insurance approval...yay!) and will bring it up with her. I'll post a follow up. For now I'm taking it out and replacing with Greek yogurt in my morning smoothie. Have been checking out vegan Protein powder options but none look very palatable, although I do like the idea of getting more plant nutrition this way. Again.. thanks for the replies...love this forum!

Amount able to eat during 1st yr post op
dashofsunshine replied to Msmamook's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a year and 5 months out and still struggle to eat a whole veggie burger patty (the frozen kind). 3 slices of uncured turkey bacon, or one patty of turkey sausage is my Breakfast, and I can't finish a whole cup of light & fit Greek yogurt. Sandwiches get 3 or 4 bites, I can handle maybe 5 or 6 bites of chicken. 4 pieces of sushi (maki roll). I eat very little, but I'm fine with it and I don't push my restriction. I eat every 2 or 3 hours, get all my Protein in, and eat about 800 calories per day. My "full signal" is a bit different than most people's, I guess. I don't sneeze or hiccup or anything like that, but right after my last bite, I feel my stomach start to "shift," as if it's settling and making room for everything. That's when I know it's time to stop. -

After clears I have 14 days of liquids still? I can add sugar free pudding and low fat yogurt? Craig Martinez Austin, Texas -
So after much debate and internal arguing with myself, I made the decision to have Vertical Gastric Sleeve surgery with Dr. Illian via Bariatric Pal in Tiajuana, Mexico. This is my account of what happened from start to finish. I made the decision to do this with my sister-in-law, so my wife went along as companion for both of us. Making the arrangements and booking was easy. I made my payments via Wells Fargo transfering the money from my account to that of Bariatric Pal with no issues and a good record of the payments. The flight to San Diego via Delta was uneventful and I found the airport in San Diego to be user friendly and a lot less hectic than Hartsfield in Atlanta which I frequent often. Stacy told us she would be waiting on the cellphone lot for us when we landed and she was there to pick us up within 5 minutes of the group retrieving our luggage. A quick and pleasant drive over the border and we arrived at the Recovery House where we stayed Sunday night before our scheduled surgeries on Monday. The Recovery House was clean, well furnished and allowed us to rest and get ready for what lay ahead the next day. Bill picked us up at 9:45 to take us to Florence Hospital. We arrived at Florence. I was immediately impressed with the cleanliness of the hospital and the attention we immediately received from the staff. We were taken straight to our room. Within 90 minutes we were in gowns, checked in with all paperwork completed, blood drawn and IV's in. X-Rays and EKGs were next. We met with the doctors and before I knew it, I was headed to surgery. The anesthesiologist introduced herself and put me at ease as did the entire ER staff. When I woke up from surgery, the nurses were right by my side taking care of me. I was back in my room by 4:00 pm local time and up walking by 6:00 pm. The nurses at Florence introduced themselves every shift change and always told you exactly what they were doing every single time they entered the room. We were given a constant rotation of IV medication for gas, heartburn and pain. In all honesty, other than some gas, I had no heartburn and very little pain. On Tuesday, leak tests and x-rays were performed again and after everything checked out fine, I was given the best ice chips, gator-aid, and apple juice ever. The valet, Robert, also talked me into trying the coconut pineapple water that he can go and get you. Take him up on this offer. After the liquid diet, this stuff is amazing! The rest of our stay at the hospital was nothing but perfect. The nurses kept a constant check on us. On the morning of our departure from Florence, we were checked, incisions cleaned and re-bandaged and met with the doctor again. After a short ride, we settled back in at the Recovery House. Juan, the on-site daytime valet at the Recovery House took us on a short walk to our lunch destination where we had the shrimp broth which is specially prepared for Bariatric Pal patients. After to eat since Sunday, the broth was great. We then walked on to the local market for drinks and yogurt for the rest of our stay. Juan and the staff were always on hand to take care of us. On Thursday we were re- bandaged by the on-site nurse and hung out until we went to Revolution to go shopping and have dinner. Juan carried us to Ceasars, creators of the Ceasar salad, where my wife enjoyed the original ceasar salad with grilled chicken. The salad dressing and salad were made table side and the small tatse of the dressing we were allowed was great. Ceasars makes a special bean broth for Bariatric Pal patients and it was delicious. We completed the evening with shopping and a ride back to the Recovery House. We enjoyed a quiet evening saying good-bye to our new friends next door and packed up to return home. True to her word, Stacy was there to pick us up at 4:00 a.m. local time for our 8:00 a.m. flight. I am now 6 days post surgery amd have not had any issues. One word of warning, you will be told to not trust a fart after surgery, listen to this advice! If someone were to ask would I go to Mexico for surgery again, Inwould answer Absolutely without hesitation. I received some of the best medical care I have received thru 6 previous surgeries in the States. Dr. Illian and the entire Bariatric Pal group exceeded my expectations. If you considering this option, go for it!

Canned tuna is one of the ideal foods for WLS patients. It has 70 calories and 14 grams of Protein per serving, not to mention that it’s carb-free and full of omega-3 fatty acids. Plus, in a world where it can be tough to put together a nutritious meal because it takes too long, canned tuna is a perfect solution that can sit in your pantry for whenever you need it. But there is a potential drawback: it can get awfully boring if you have it plain day in, day out. Traditional mayo-laden tuna salad and fat and carb laden tuna noodle casserole are non-starters for WLS patients…so how do you prepare your tuna to be delicious and healthy? Share your recipes here, please! We could all use some tuna tips. If you’re not into tuna or your best protein recipe uses something else, please share that recipe, too! Whether it’s chicken breast, Beans, smoked mussels, Greek yogurt, or another healthy protein, we definitely want to hear how you make it even more delicious while keeping it healthy.
