  1. It gets better. It took me several hours before I was able to pee, and then I had to patiently wait for my body to allow the urine out once on the toilet. That lasted a couple days for me. Getting out of bed was the most painful thing for me. Take it easy and ask for help if needed. I slept in a recliner the first several days. It was more comfortable. Try holding a pillow to your stomach when you cough, or place a hand firmly over your largest incision. It helps to support the area and makes it less painful. The horrible taste is common. I had it too. My doc said it could be due to the anaesthesia. It could also be ketosis, dry mouth (try biotene mouthwash), or something else. Brush frequently and use a tongue scrape or brush. It helps a lot. This gets better in a few weeks. If you are in pain during the day, take your meds so you can heal. No need to be a hero. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Calories

Just went to my 3 month checkin/ support meeting with a group of people that were sleeved around the same time. The nut said that anything below 700 or 800 was to low. 800 -1000 were good to stay within. I wonder if that's why I slowed down cause its hard some days to get in all my calories.

    Port Moving?

Hi. I couldn't exactly 'place' mine initially but then I suppose I didn't want to touch it incase I unsettled it. I'm over 6 weeks post op now and mine tends to sit below and to the left of my scar. As I'm sitting now, it feels it's only an inch below. The port is stitched to your muscle so won't seem to go far but as we're losing weight/body fat, things will shrink and reposition slightly. My port does sit slightly tilted so that could give the impression of moving but it was no problem when I had a fill. Before I had my band, I joined my local support group for banders/bypassers and sleevers and had a feel of 3 peoples ports. They all felt very different and the positions varied.
  6. Thank you all I'm at 3 weeks and cleared to fly. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. Just wanted to share with everyone that I reached my goal in 4 and 1/2 months!!! I started as a 50 y.o. lightweight with surgery weight of 213 and today I am at my goal of 145 - that's 68 lbs lost in a little over 4 months. I set my goal at 145 because it is a normal BMI (I am 5'5") and should be easy to maintain. But I think I will go for 10 more pounds to 135. This hasn't been the easy way out since I worked for every single pound lost. I did not just let the sleeve do the work - I have been exercising since surgery starting with walking 3 miles/day and then adding in biking. I am currently biking around 75-100+ miles a week along with brisk walking most days (Yes I do work full-time also and have a family). I have had no problems, can eat anything and have never been sick from the sleeve. I have been good about staying on the diet of 800 calories with 30 grams of carbs. I figured I had 80% of my stomach removed and paid thousands of dollars out of pocket I was going to work this thing as hard as I could. I haven't dealt with any hair loss yet but don't think I am totoally out of the woods since I recently read that for some it doesn't start until 6 months post-op. But I am keeping my fingers crossed. I am not going to go for plastics because everything has recovered just fine and should continue to get better as I add more weight training into my workouts. I think the girls are better than before now that all that back fat is gone! Yuk. So for those of you just researching good luck and I do recommend the sleeve. I am not going to say I love my sleeve like most people do - don't get me wrong I like it A LOT. But I think I will save the proclamation of love for a year out when I see how well I do with maintenance. Best of luck to everyone. Frankie VSG 3/22/10 Dr Aceves

    Quinoa

Quinoa is a good source of protein but at only 8 weeks out you should maybe wait a bit longer. Quinoa is easy to over eat and may cause some discomfort this early on..
  10. Every time I eat I feel like hell ......my stomach making sounds like I haven't ate in days. It's like I can feel air leaving my stomach with every sound .....sounds crazy right ????
  11. Mine is so noisy others can hear it. Gurgling and squeaking - it sounds like the noises a lava lamp should make. Surgery was 3 1/2 months ago.

    Sudden Food Intolerance

I would look for --- what makes dinner different. i would suspect eating too fast, pushing too hard on foods your tummy isn't ready for or some other commonality. I believe it is NOT normal to vomit daily after a meal. I don't think I vomited 4 times in my first year, much less in a single week.
  13. I was also sleeved on 9/9! I'm on a 2 week liquid diet and CANNOT wait to move onto the pureed stage already! My incision farthest left is the one that gives me the most pain. According to my surgeon that is the site where they removed the excess stomach so it had to be stretched, hence the soreness. Hope you are doing well!

    Constant Chest Pain

Yes, I'm able to eat solids and the pain hasn't really been associated with eating. It's just general even if I sip on liquids it can send a surge of left shoulder/chest pain. And it's usually associated with severe nausea. this is only my 2nd week on solids but this has been happening since full liquids.

    Week before my two weeks

Ugh I'm going thru this right now! I lost 14lbs before submitting to insurance and getting my date of Oct. 5th for surgery. After that last weigh in, I started "cheating," or allowing myself to eat foods that I really won't ever eat again, because they are unhealthy. So far in the last 2 weeks, I have had pizza, Chinese, a turkey hoagie, and threw my daughter a 1st birthday party and indulged. Well, now I am up 5lbs!!! I'm feeling really low about it, but I know that I'm starting my pre-op liquid diet soon, and I'll lose that weight again in no time. I guess it's really my last hoorah. ???? pathetic, I know.

    Week before my two weeks

I have had my last hoorah the past few days. I am not to a point that I feel ready to go! Today I was good. I will start my two weeks on Monday. I guess I got it all out of my system.

I paid the full amount at the pre-op consult. That was two weeks before surgery.
  18. Hey everyone!! i am almost one month out since surgery. The first couple weeks was great, but now, I am having troubles. I am spitting up what I learned to be “foamies” all day/everyday. It’s hard for me to get anything in because I’m so exhausted and sleep so much. My doctors office suggested I drink pedialyte for hydration but it’s not helping too much.

    Sudden Food Intolerance

Are you eating too quickly? The first 8-10 months after I had the sleeve I rarely puked and then ever since then my stomach has no tolerance for sugar, oil, milk, and periodically random things like chicken and crackers that it doesn't usually have an issue with. So, in my experience you can develop food intolerance, however I also notice that I get much sicker, much faster if I am not careful with how fast I eat. Every once in awhile I'll be in a hurry and choke down 1/4 of a chicken sandwich, or a few too many spoons of vegetables too fast and almost instantly I have to throw up. For foods that my stomach tolerates, the barfing is usually because I didn't chew enough or ate too fast. Also, now I am paranoid about getting sick in public places, so before I even start eating my stomach wants to barf because of stress more so than the actual food. So, my post wasn't a very organized response, but I would try consciously eating slower and chewing longer. If that doesn't work, then it may be a sensitivity. I am the opposite of you...I am fine with moist chicken, but fish makes me barf. This was another sensitivity that only developed months after the surgery had been over and fully healed. Also, you're not bulimic if you're barfing because you feel sick. I had a member of my family feel nosy and say she thought I was bulimic which was offensive because I literally see her maybe once a year and she knows nothing about me. I puke a few times a week- not because I'm trying to spare myself calories, but because I open my mouth and the food I just ate comes spewing right back out. As long as you're barfing because you feel sick, you're unlikely to be developing an eating disorder. The trick though is to know when you're physically sick and when you are psychologically making yourself sick, so if you are uncertain, perhaps ask your doctor what he thinks.

    Exercise

Hopefully that first fill will be just enough for you. That was all I needed. Good you are able to get to the one cup now with 3-4 hours. That is awesome. You may not want very much added. Go slow as you matpy be a lucky one like me. I have only had one fill and almost 11 months post op.

    Post-op Gastroparesis

So sorry Kate that you have this diagnosis. So this started at 3 months? I hope you get some relief soon.
  24. At exactly six weeks out, my incisions finally healed enough for me to get to the local pool for my aerobic workout. I successfully avoided exercise for my whole life until three years ago when I got hooked on 3X a week vigorous Water workout and lap swimming. I have not been in the pool for my deep water work out for 7 weeks, and it felt great!! I was also wearing new swim trunks as the old ones were too big.... I am going to alternate swim days with treadmill time. My next goal (likely another 50# to go) will be to get back on my bicycle, I need lots of exercise to keep this weight loss going steady -- over 50# in six weeks, not complaining. Thanks everyone for all of your support on these forums.
  25. My doctor did a bit of Lipo there and the front area ( which seemed large in my work out pants)was pulled up during my TT. Ask your surgeon if that is included. I'm thinking it is common to have droopiness after weight loss. I was pleased with the results . Good luck! Ps. It hurt a bit ( ok a lot)the first week. Just know it gets better quickly as time goes on! Ok I guess we can say mons as in mons pubis.... That for me was kinda a fat pad that was changed during my TT .
