Hey There! I am early in the lap band process as well, and have Tufts heath plan. I totally understand your confusion about their program since there is little to no info out there on it, untill you are actually enrolled. icanchange is a 6 month program which must be completed before you will be covered for surgery. It consists of 8 phone calls with a consultant, durring which you make goals related to lifestyle changes, etc. and discuss diferent issues and hurdles. To get enrolled your doctor needs to send a letter to tufts pre-enrollment, stating why you shold be enrolled in the program (WT, comorbidities, etc.) Once approved you will get a letter of acceptance, and a call from your consultant to schedule your first call. For me, this happeded about a week or 2 after my doctors office sent in the letter.) I am currently 1 call into the program, with my second call scheduled for tomorrow evening. If all goes on schedule I should complete the program mid may. My suggestion would be to speak with your doctor as soon as possible to get the ball rolling- The program date will not officially start untill the day of your first official call. Good luck! And it may take a while, but the summer WILL get here, and our time WILL come!! ~Shel

Someone who hadn't seen me for a year....
musicalmomma replied to Betsyjane's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Betsy, that's wonderful! I totally relate...all I could see for the past few weeks was how far I have to go...and forgot that I USED to look at people my size and think..."If I could just look like THAT I could be happy". Funny! Anyway, I decided to enjoy my progress and be thrilled with where I am now. I'll be seeing friends I haven't seen in a year at christmas...can't wait to see the AH! factor!!! OH, and the drivers license...I lost mine, got a new one at 220 lbs...then, last week, I found the old 285 lbs one...OMG!!!! I couldn't BELIEVE the difference!!! You won't either! -
I am 3 weeks out and tonight I had about 4oz of white wine. I didn't even think about it (dumb I know) it was just served with Xmas supper. I feel fine, not even a buzz and no pain. Could I have done damage to my sleeve?

Ehhh ... I feel like I should be doing more. I walk for 30-45 minutes a day 3-5 days a week. I keep telling myself to join a gym, but quite honestly I'm intimidated.

Insurance requires 12 week preparation program
Miss Mac replied to Miss Mac's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am in 3 weeks since the start of my program and have lost just short of nine pounds. One of the reasons I am going for the surgery is that I probably lost ten pounds five times in the last year. -

I have never even heard of this! I am hoping this won't be a surprise dropped on me. I start my liquid diet Monday and have surgery in two weeks. When did you find out about this? -

Hoping to get banded through 30-35 BMI study with Dr. Waldrep
grateful1 replied to grateful1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yeah, I heard that about not losing weight if you're low BMI. Thankfully I'm not a grazer or sweets eater. I'm more of a volume eater. I generally eat good stuff, but it takes a lot to satisfy me at a meal. I'm hoping to stick to just 3 meals a day but eat less at each meal. So far, so good. Lost 8 lbs. since surgery 2.5 weeks ago without really trying and without a fill. I can tell I need a fill though because I can still eat more than I think I should be able to... although not as much as I used to. I go in for a fill 3 days before Thanksgiving, which should make the holiday interesting! I'm hoping to work hard to lose the weight, but then have the band to help me keep it off. We'll see how it goes! -
Well, I had my 2 week followup appointment today. Everything went well. Officially (according to their scales) I have lost 20 pounds. I have been cleared to start mushies on Tuesday and I'm thrilled about that. Is it Tuesday yet? LOL My surgeon also wanted me to see a "local" doctor for PCP to manage my diabetes within the next week. (I live in Michigan, but am moving to Ohio and hadn't gotten a PCP in Ohio yet.) So, the girl at the desk tried a couple of offices that the surgeon recommended and neither could see me before October. She then told me of a doctor in a different town, but was still with the same hospital system and said that she was good. I told her to go ahead with it. Well that doctor couldn't see me, but there was another doctor in the same practice that could see me today (an hour after I left the surgeon's office actually). So, they setup the appointment. I get to the PCP's office, and the girl at the desk tells me that I'll love this doctor and she herself had the sleeve done in April and has lost 60 pounds with it. As we start talking, she also tells me more about the office and how they are getting "specialists" to come in one day a week in the "other half of the office" and gave me information on a couple of other specialists that I will eventually need to see. I then went back to talk to the doctor - who is young and good looking. As we are talking, he tells me that he still has family in Saginaw, Michigan and goes to visit a couple of times each year. Well, what a small world - I grew up in Burt and have been living in Clio - just about 30 minute drive from Saginaw. I was liking the doctor before this, but this kind of sealed it for me. Today was a very good day....

2 Week Post Op Dr. Appt
hmm33502 replied to stevenjoec's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess mine was a little more intensive! In addition to weigh-in, checking incisions, vitals, we had a 2 hour post op seminar with a nutritionist on eating for the next few weeks of healing and how to eat after healing. They talked more about fills and how often we should be coming in to get them. This is in addition to the pre-op seminar that we had about what to expect, because your mind isn't as focused on what to eat after, as it is on the actual surgery. I hope it's more than a quick in and out, especially if you are paying for a visit! -
Banded 3 years ago, no longer lurking
Corrigan replied to TriCyndiLoowho's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If you get a chance, visit Baptist medical Center in Okie City to see if they can't help, at least talk to them. I really don't have any business giving advice, only having been banded three days, but I had such a wonderful experience at an ACS Center of Excellence (of which Baptist Medical is one) that I have become sort of an evangelist for them. Just try them if you can, you won't regret it. Whatever you decide, best of luck to you. -
I have my first appointment next week for a lap band. Does anyone know how long it takes for insurance and what they expect from the patient to get approved??
-
Yes I remember having to cut my protein shakes with extra extra water the first several weeks. Best of luck!!

i love zumba and do that at least 3-4 times a week so my cardio is being taken care of. i know i need to start doing some weightlifting even though i'm not really a fan of it. i don't really have the money for a personal trainer so i'm looking to do this on my own. does anyone have an easy to follow (for a beginner) weight lifting or muscle toning workout plan for me to follow? or maybe a website, an app or a link i can go to that help me with this.

Thanks I'll have to look up YouTube. Also starting body pump and kickboxing with weights. I just have to be careful still because I'm only three Weeks post OP and still in some pain. ZGB

www.fabtofit.Blogspot.com

I've had 3 fills (one at surgery, one in October and one this past Wednesday)...I go in today for an unfill as I now can't get any liquids down. I am currently at 3.5cc in a 10cc band...the doc plans to take out .5cc and I hope that is enough. 2.5cc was great for me for almost 2 months. I have lost 56.8 pounds since 7/25 but the last 6 have been in this last week of being entirely too tight. Happy to see the loss, but not the way it came. If you are interested in my progress through time, take a peek here http://www.digital-drama.com/blog/life-with-a-lap-band/ Also, are you exercising? I fully contribute my great (in my eyes) loss to that.

Surgery went well. Ended up statying 6 hours due to O2 sats not coming back up but finally made it home! Gas pains trapped in my chest and left shoulder even today. I went back to work on Monday. I'm a nurse practitioner and round in the hospital and see patients in an office setting. I'm wiped out by the end of the day but I'm getting through it each day. No fills for me until stomach heals; another 3 weeks per my surgeon. I have been hungry since day one so I am really having a tough time. Praying this is all worth it and that I can handle it!

IndioGirl55 replied to Pugger's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pugger 1st quesstion what are you eating??? Are you keeping a food diary or logging your food on fitday.com?? Are you exercising??? Calories in vs Calories out = weight loss. I don't have much restriction - could eat a horse half the time - but i am makeing healthly food choices keeping my calories at 1000 - 1200 a day and exercise 5 times a week. Ya gotta let us know what you are or aren't doing for us to help.. -
The best advice I can give is time. I had surgery a week ago Tuesday and the sore throats will go away eventually. Probably you won't even notice when it does!

Usually medications/supplements promoting blood clotting and bleeding during or after surgery are stopped 2-3 weeks before surgery. These include low dose aspirin, multivitamins containing vitamins A, E, D, K, iron. Also blood thinners like warfarin. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Talk to your fill doc ASAP! some docs charge less for adjustments made within a week of your fill date. Find out before you get stuck paying full price. (Like I'm gonna...)
