    Everybody loses weight at a different rate, so try not to compare yourself with others. Also, stalls are inevitable. It'll all work out.

    you are probably in a stall. can last a couple weeks where you wont loose any. and its normal to gain or loose a pound. you cant be on that scale constantly. you will drive yourself crazy. Just keep at it.

    its been 7.5 weeks since my surgery and I lost a total of 30 lbs. Within the last 2 days I have gained 1 lb so now im back at 29 lbs lost. is this normal? I feel so behind. I see so many people loosing so quickly and so much and I feel stuck. Most my weight was gone within 3 weeks and ive just been stalling. I know im not overeating so I dont get it. Thoughts?

    Eating too much

    1. Make sure you're eating solids. Things like yogurt and whatnot will just liquify in your stomach and flush through, thus leaving you hungry again. 2. Going along with point #1, don't drink anything during or after meals. Again, liquids will just push any food you eat through. 3. Are you eating a lot of fat? Doesn't take much oil, butter, cream, cheese, etc to get you up to 1400 in a hurry. 4. Follow your plan to a T. Three 25 minute meals, broken down nutritionally with solid foods without liquid. If you're doing this perfectly and your stomach's growling, then call your doctor's office. If your stomach doesn't feel empty, then you're not physically hungry. You're mentally hungry. Surgery's going to get rid of that for some, but for many, it won't. Try to distract yourself, and if you need to, find a therapist to talk to.

    Yeah same here I was so enthusiastically waiting organised my job to be covered by someone else at the same time, so this gives me 3 weeks of no work but everything happens for a reason I guess, there's nothing I can do but wait, the bad part is the hospital staff said it could even be cancelled on the day of the rescheduled date, so anything can happen I remember my brother being ping-ponged and cancelled rescheduled 5 times before he had his kneecap surgery finalised and done!

    Dr wanted me on liquid two weeks before, my dr is in Broward d county I live in miami, Fl nice to celebrate prior just had a margarita party with my girlfriends today to celebrate before the count down 🤗😂

    Taking pills

    As @catwoman7 said dumping won’t be an issue but you may struggle swallowing the meds for a couple of days because of swelling from the surgery. Spread taking the meds out across the day if possible & only take one at a time until you don’t have any issues. I didn’t start taking my vitamins until towards the end of the first week because of swelling. Fortunately the only med I had that I had to take every day was my HRT & that is very small like the pill so was easy to swallow. All the best.

    How much calcium??

    Give your team a call so you know exactly what they recommend. I wasn’t advised to take additional calcium to what was already in the multi vitamin they recommended. My bone scan showed my bones were rock hard anyway & I was consuming way more calcium than I ever did before surgery. Before surgery maybe 3or 4 serves a week. After surgery about 3 serves a day. I wasn’t given a fibre recommendation either except to add a spoon of Benefibre or other non swelling fibre supplement every day to milk, yoghurt drink, rolled oats (instant at first from purée). I also tried to add some vegetables to my diet as soon as I could. Plus I was allowed fruit around month 3 (strawberries & watermelon were my favourites then mandarins & peeled apples as I was able).

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

    Congrats! I was sleeved on 4/19, had a two week liquid diet prior. The surgery itself went great, the gas pains after were no joke but walking and gas x helps a lot. I needed pain meds the first day and a half I was home I have been managing the pain with Tylenol since then. I found a heating pad helps a lot with abdominal pain. I don’t feel overly tired at all but I do feel hungry! I was able to go on soft foods today so I had 2 protein shakes and three 2oz meals. Also trying to get in all my liquids. Overall, very pleased.
  11. I am currently starting the puree stage and I've made a few things that I really enjoy and then freezed individual small portions using Souper Cubes. So far I've made chicken vegetable soup which consisted of homemade bone broth, zucchini, tomatoes, white beans, corn, fresh peas, carrots, onion, celery, fresh dill and fresh parsley. After it cooked I pureed it and it was so good! Had the texture of split pea but had amazing flavor. Tonight I roasted sweet potatoes and butternut squash and then pureed them. Tomorrow I plan on using the leftover sweet potatoes, butternut squash, onions, and bell peppers that I roasted tonight and putting them in a lentil soup and puree together.   12. The hydration is so very important for energy and recovery. Just think every time you go pee you are flushing fat away that will never return. If you are able to have V-8 you can add unflavored Isopure to it for a whopping 25gm of quality protein. The protein is what we need to heal tissues and maintain muscle mass. I love to nap but I set an alarm so I can stay up on fluids. My RNY was 4-5-22. Each week has been better. Increasing my walks helped with my sluggish feeling.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

    It's been a struggle, to be honest. I've been feeling sluggish. All I want to do is sleep and stay away from everybody in my house when they eat food because I'm on the full liquid diet and very bored with it. It's been hard to make my hydration goal, but I think I'll make it tonight. I'm gonna do crystal light. I'm also struggling with the protein goal. I get half way to my protein goal by the end of the night. I walk for 20 minutes a day, but probably need to walk more. I'm trying to stay positive, but this week has been a real struggle. I hope next week gets better on the puree stage.

  15. So my first NSV for the week is making me scratch my head. I'm still losing, which is nice, but I had to return a pair of American Eagle brand shorts because they were too large—apparently I'm a size medium now. The idea of a six-foot-tall, 268-pound man being a medium in ANYTHING clothing related is just too bizarre for words. I expected it in Carhartt work t-shirts because they're like Chucks, they're known to run very large and you have to size down. But a teenage clothing line?? But that's not the weird NSV. The weird NSV requires some backstory. I live in a two-story home that is a little older (by local standards; stop laughing, Europeans). My beloved offspring's bedroom is directly above the doorbell—the actual thing that makes the chime sound itself. Whenever I would walk across her room, my weight would compress the floor and press down on the wall that the doorbell mechanism is mounted on, and because of how it's wired, the doorbell would ring. It took me WEEKS after we moved in to figure out what the heck was happening. I'd be putting her to bed and the doorbell would ring. She'd wake up and need water or to chase away a nightmare at 2:30 a.m., and I'd walk in and... the doorbell would ring. Freaked me out! Well, the other day I was putting clean laundry on her bed ("put it away yourself!") and I noticed that I don't make the doorbell ring anymore. Not even if I hop up and down on the spot. Nothing else has changed except the size of me, and so... weird non-scale victory!
  16. My file is complete per my surgeon’s admin. I’m going to start the CPAP tonight or tomorrow night. The admin will call Monday to set up my ‘Results’ appointment with the surgeon, and my paperwork will go to CIGNA on Monday. Now I wait. I’m so tempted to book a date in May and only give myself 5 days till I’m back at school. HOWEVER, I will most likely choose to do the more prudent thing, and have surgery June 9th or 10th-ish when school is out. Yes, I am enjoying a food bucket list until I start the pre-op diet. My BMI is 40.9 and I’m hell bent on keeping it there till Cigna says yes. I’d love to hear from the April Surgery Buddies regarding your immediate post-op recovery. I guess that this week (fingers crossed) I will be able to join the June Surgery Buddies Group. FWIW, I began this journey on 1/15 with research into WLS. My zoom call with the surgeon’s office was 2/22. The pre-procedure testing (extensive) began in March. I started out thinking sleeve, but I have opted for bypass. I have a large hiatal hernia that will be repaired during surgery.
  17. Day 5 post op and protein shakes are now disgusting to me. 3 weeks of protein shakes (Pre op and post op) i knew it would get to me. need to figure out other ways to get protein in until May 3rd when i am cleared for soft foods.

    Iron supplements

    Four days isn’t going to make a huge difference. My team even told me if I couldn’t take my vitamins for the first week or so it wouldn’t kill me. But, I say it depends on how worried YOU are going to be about it though. If you feel confident about missing Those four days after reading some of the answers here go for it, but if your going to worry about it and ruin your trip it may be worth the 30 bucks. Also, you may want to make sure to try the new iron you buy before your trip in case it causes nausea. No need to be sick while on your trip.

    Slow Losers Club…..officially *sigh*

    I'm going back to logging everything I eat, plus the exercise I do. I walk as much as my body will allow, if anything I overdo more than under do. I have medical issues and constantly play the don't over do it it game! But, I also fall off the eating wagon from time to time, I stall out completely. These people who say they can eat whatever they want and still lose, I'm happy for them, but I'm not one of them. Have to stop whining about it and stick to the plan of protein and vegs, period.
  20. Thanks for the honesty ! Theresa lot to be said for tracking then food, the calories and the type of food you eat! I can stay below 1000 calories a day, but if those calories have any sugar or bread in them, I stall out for a week or two. I'm about 2 months out of the surgery. Sometimes I think, maybe it isn't working on me like everyone else. I'm certainly not in the "I can eat whatever I want and still lose weight." I know I do best on keto diets, but that's so hard to stick to! If I think I will still lose by eating only 1/2 of a sandwich and still sticking to under1000 calories a day, it doesn't work that way for me. The bread stops the weight lost. Not being able to eat salads right now (my surgeon says no raw vegs for 6 months) its really challenging eating out and staying away from any carbs. I admire people who can do it. I've noticed, the further away from the surgery, the more my hunger comes back. I'm only 2months out! Is anyone else dealing with this? At the same time, if I'm not hungry, at least a little bit, I'm not losing weight!
  21. My surgeon says wait 6 months because of the carbonation. I don't drink coffee, so I have a half of a can in the morning of diet coke. I drink it slowly, I've never had a problem. I use a straw, never had an issue. Also drink the occasional cup of tea. However, I'm losing so slow, nobody can see the results yet! I've lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks, stalled out since then. I can't eat any carbs at all.

    Oh dear, thats discouraging! I'm probably doing the same thing. I lost 20 pounds in the first 6 weeks. When I stay on keto or very low carb, I lose. As soon as I have any bread, wheat, tortilla, I stall out and don't lose anything, even though my calorie count is still under 1000 calories in a day. I haven't lost anything in my second month so far because I ate out and had bread of some sort. What can I say? Before surgery I could lose 1/2 a pound a month, I know I have insulin resistance, it is what it is. Hand in there! At least we aren't gaining!

    What protein shakes for Reset to take off regain.

    I am on the 14 day pre-op diet now and the shakes I am drinking are the BEST and they are lactose free! Shamrock Farms Rockin' Protein Builder with 30g Protein, 9 net carbs and 190 calories. I drink three of them a day and have broth and sugar free jello in between along with 64 oz of water. I feel great! I do miss chewing but I know it is temporary. I have been on the liquid diet since 4/12 and I have lost 12 pounds.
  24. Hi all! I am 7 yrs out from gastric bypass. I did very well losing the weight, followed everything by the book. Mentally, I have struggled over these past 7 yrs with old mindset I’m supposed to be the fat one. I’ve always had a weight problem and it’s difficult to not let that creep back in my head. Self sabotage! Decided to get on with it and take off the 40 lbs I’ve gained. QUESTION If doing a reset, do you do this for 5 days? 2 weeks? On liquid protein shakes? And what protein shakes do you prefer? I am very lactose intolerant. Like many now, I’m sure. Thank you in advance for any idea on which shake to drink, and how long!
  25. I have PCOS as well. I had my surgery on April 4th, 2022. So I am 19 days out. My initial weight was 410lbs before the 2 week liquid diet. My weight the day of surgery was 399lbs. My current weight as of today is 374.8lbs. So I’ve lost 36lbs in total and 25lbs post surgery. I am actually at a stall now. Having only lost 1lb this week. And I’m starting to think it has something to do with my PCOS and that i won’t lose anymore. This is quite discouraging as one of the main reasons I chose to do this surgery was so that I could correct my PCOS and potentially have children in the future. I am only 19 days out and already stalling, it’s a bit worrying to me. i do struggle with water intake, but my doctor said that that’s normal for the first few weeks considering my stomach is still so small. So I don’t really know why I’m not losing anymore and I just hope it breaks soon.
