  1. @@MinaDina I am a very social person and like to be surrounded by friends and energy.... and yet sleeve post op in 2011, I pretty much wanted to be alone. In January of this year I had to do a plastic surgery related "revision" and went alone. I sometimes got bored, but was surprised that I didn't really get lonely. I had a couple of emergency room trips this year (don't ask!) and also found that I really didn't want my grown kids around me - I was in a lot of pain and feeling like I needed to mask it for other people was stressful. So, there are some benefits of doing this solo! You might find that you do okay... and it seems to me you have pretty much ruled out the obvious suggestions (support group, or meeting people via Facebook or meetups etc).

My band came out and was revised same day

You had one removed and revised the same day Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  3. My hunger came back within a month of surgery. I am a revision band to bypass patient, and not sure if that had any influence on how quickly my hunger returned. As with the band, you need to be aware of everything you put in your mouth. I have 3 small meals and 1 snack daily. When I'm hungry between meals, I drink Water, sometimes flavored with a SF enhancer. It works for me to structure my eating and not allow myself to give into the grazing I would like to do.

    Anyone from the AZ?

I'm waiting for my psychological evaluation results and we will submit to insurance. Dr. Juarez is doing my revision. Everyone at Bridges and St. Luke's hospital is really nice and helpful. Loving it so far. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Unfill

Thought I had,and when I called for the appt they informed me that the "higher ups " said they couldn't do it because I was a Mexico patient. So, my surgeon says he will "unfill " me on May 17, the day before the revision. He only charges $100 USD compared to $775 in my town in Virginia Sent from my Nexus 5 using the BariatricPal App
  6. I am pre op (revision from band to bypass) currently on liquid diet.....Found out there is huge family get together/special event at the end of the month in another state and I won't be able to go because I will be recovering after surgery... Someone suggested I move the surgery, but I have worked so hard to get everything done by this date, have everything set up and planned and if I move it I would have to wait another few months for the date then do all clearances again... I guess I feel guilty that I can go and be there for family and maybe also selfish that I am choosing to keep my surgery date and continue with my decision.... But knowing myself most i most likely would want to go that event being so overweight anyways because I am embarrassed and uncomfortable.....

I am going in on Monday for my band to sleeve revision any words of wisdom? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. I had lap band surgery in 2011 and was very successful, going from about 244 to 157 at my lowest. Unfortunately I kept it off for about 5 minutes and slowly crept back up to where I was preop. I have emotional eating issues and I know that. I have seen a therapist the majority of the time since surgery. It's a constant battle and I'm so disgusted with myself for being back here again. My question is, should I even consider the revision to sleeve? Is there any reason to think I'd be more successful at keeping the weight off?? Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App
  9. Hi all. Just posting my few cents in here as someone who is (finally) getting the sleeve on the 17th of this month. This is my first day of the 2 weeks pre op diet. Boy I am peeing a lot! I am having a Lap Band to Sleeve revision. Got turned down by my insurance company and it went to the 2nd stage of appeal where with the help of Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy they reversed the denial. This happened about 2 weeks ago so everything is happening very quickly which I am thankful for. I'm really excited about this and from reading so many posts on here I feel like I have a better idea of the challenges ahead. Especially those psychological ones in the first month or so. But as of right now I'm not freaked out about it I'm, just looking so forward to the outcome after the initial challenges and then the ongoing challenges of having to actually do the work required. But I'm excited about that too. I'll be 59 in July; have adopted 2 grandkids (3 and 5 year olds) and I simply need to be there for them. I'm doing this for me and for them, which is for me too! I need to be around a lot longer than all this weight will allow. And I want to have a life with them that this weight won't allow either. Plus I have an awesome wife who has been with me for 14 years and she needs me around too and needs to experience a much better life than this weight will allow. SO THE WEIGHT HAS GOT TA GO!!! Thanks for all of you who post your experiences on here as it is very inspirational and supportive; even hearing the real life struggles many of you are having. But with the help of God; these and other supports we can all do this thing. Jack
  10. I am revising from band to bypass on 13th... Sitting here hungry on a liquid diet and wondering, after bypass does your stomach still growl when you are hungry? This maybe a stupid question... But just wondering... With my band I would eat, the food would be in my pouch but the bottom half of stomach is screaming "feeed meeee now!"

    Lap Band complications

I went in to my surgeon specifically asking for a Lap-Band (I didn't know there were so many problems at the time and I wasn't interested in any of the other procedures) and he basically told me no. He said he used to do them a lot but after he's seen so many problems he doesn't recommend them anymore. He explained all the issues people have had with them: A lot of the tubes breaking (they get worn out or break pretty easy from what he explained) as well as port issues (something about the port sometimes being a pain to get to if it moves), slippage, food getting stuck and acid reflux. He also said that if you remove it, your stomach is never actually "normal" again after either so technically, it's not reversible as Lap-Band claims it is. Not to mention that it's NEVER ENDING with the Dr. appointments to adjust the thing. He also told me that he has to do a lot of revisions from the band to gastric sleeve since so many regret having it (because of the issues and annoying Dr. appointments) or they just don't loose the weight with it but seeing people that regret the sleeve is almost unheard of so he recommended the gastric sleeve for me instead.
  12. I was banded in 2001 at 270 pounds... i lost 28# in the first month on a liquid diet and then over the next 11 months... worked another almost 40# off via exercise and diet. I never got under 200# and at 5'5" was still a big person. I had that band for 10 years and reached my all time high weight that was recorded 332 - in 2004 or 2005 I believe. I think I was actually closer to 350 at one point, but I had stopped weighing. I did weight watchers, nutrisystem, those hormone drops... you name it. I considered it amazing if I could stay under 250#. I never gave up though. Then, I got sleep apnea, high blood pressure, arthritis, unexplained body pain and general misery. My sleep doctor told me I was dying of obesity. The truth hurt but it was his shove in that direction that got me serious about revising. The surgeon he sent me to poo-poo'd the sleeve and didn't even offer it as an option since I was 300# and had already failed with the band. I started the path of bypass and for irrational reasons, chickened out. I tried nutrisystems, ww etc one more time and then finally decided to join a 2 year lifestyle management program. They rejected me - wouldn't take my money because the disease process was just too advanced in my case. She sent me to a different surgeon who does all types of WLS and he thought I was a candidate for a sleeve. What was best was becoming educated about obesity, having a good nutritionalist (rare out there) and just that whole positive outlook that there was hope for me. I did better than they expected in the sense of how much I lost and my maintenance. High BMI people often dont get down to what most people consider "normal" sized. The day I started my 2 week preop diet for the sleeve I weighed 308, 300# on day of surgery Dec 2011 In 14 months I lost about 150# getting to my goal of 158# in Feb 2013. I got down to about 140 at one point but am now hanging out around goal. I am quite pleased considering I have never been able to maintain. This Dec will be my 5 years since revision. Good luck to you!
  13. Nope...not a revision. I went from the original stomach to the VSG stomach. I just know of the struggles that result from complications from banding. You two are going to do really well !!!
  14. Thank you! Your words really uplifted me! So you were a revision also? Did your surgeon do both procedures in same surgery? Leaving in 30 minutes to take my husband. Anxious!
  15. Hi. I was actually going in for check ups for my band when we found out it slipped: ( my Dr made me only do but and psych again for revision. I actually did go to but each month prior to surgery and I had to attend pre op seminar for bypass. Each Dr is different though. My insurance would only pay for band removal and not if I did revision on same day. Long story short, it was only 3000 less to do one surgery than two so I'm self pay unfortunately: ( Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App I just found app yesterday too:) Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App
  16. Good news on your revision being approved. No more ports to worry about. No more fills. I've found my sleeve to be extremely easy to live with. The only times I've had heartburn has been when I've had coffee and Advil on mornings following a spicy food for dinner. I was a frequent adder of jalapeño & habanero peppers to a great deal of what I cooked & grilled. I love some spicy rubs, too. I've had to tone things down a small amount and realize that those spices are even more concentrated as I consume them without the carb loaded side dishes I was accustomed to eating along with them. At my 6 month check in I was encouraged to slowly add in vegetables in smallish amounts to my meals. Perhaps this will help me keep on spicing up the meats. Sleeve has been trouble free. I hope that yours and your husbands are equally agreeable. I think it is awesome that you are doing this together. Once you both get back to what normal eating is (was around 2-3 months for me) you will be in sync. You'll go out for dinners and be ordering some very small quantities and laughing about it. Food prep at home will be simple and easy. You'll have those same post-op wonderment feels, too. Shared awesomeness !!!!
  17. Hi Starlane, Had you regained weight with the lap band? I am considering revision What pre op preparation did you have to do?

    May bypass group!

My surgery is in 13 days... I am also freaking out, had my pre op blood work and EKG today and have my surgery clearance spot with my internal med doc on Tuesday... Then pre op with surgeon on 9th. Time seems to be going fast... I am noticing I am having somewhat difficult time mentally on this liquid diet, it's sad how much food is has a hold of me... All the cravings are kicking in just because i can't have it at the moment and I know it's just my head... Trying to really pay attention to it and change my way of seeing food and and keep staying busy. I told someone today about my surgery and they asked me if I am excited... I feel like I can't get excited because I know it will be tough and since I am revision from lap band I am scared I won't lose my extra weight... Wow....guess i needed to let things out here lol I can certainly relate Username taken! I have surgery clearance with PCP on the 5th, pre op blood work on the 16th, Pre op with surgeon, nutrition and surgery nurse on the 17th. At this stage I really don't know what to feel. I did well with the no carbs phase, but the 2 week liquid protein diet has me worried. I'll be praying for strength for you!! Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
  20. So as I get closer to completing all of my testing for revision from lap and to gbp the reality of life after GBP is starting to settle in ... Right now I have had 7 yrs of barely eating.. Never feeling hungry ... Etc ( not that I ever went down to goal ). The last 8 months I have been eating a yogurt around 10 am ... lunch at about 2 and then Soup of some sort or soft food in the evening ( and gaining weight ) .... With GBP I've been told you have to eat 3 small meals high Protein , veggies ... But isn't there anyone else out there concerned , nervous etc about gaining weight and having this fail ?? 21. I'm scheduled for a band to sleeve revision for May 11, and boy am I a nervous wreck! Seriously. Everything I am thinking, feeling, saying, is all 'normal' according to all the posts, but it still doesn't make me feel any less anxious. I've had to take more ativan than normal just to keep my heart from jumping out of my chest, lol. Uggggggggh! I'm praying that my surgeon will remove the band AND sleeve me in the same surgery, but he won't guarantee it until he gets in there and assesses the scar tissue. OMG, I can't even imagine going through this a second time, not to mention the MONEY involved. On top of my surgery date, my dear husband is getting sleeved tomorrow morning! I feel like throwing up, lol. Prayers welcomed!
  22. My husband will be sleeved this time tomorrow. My stomach is in knots, to say the very least. Asking for your prayers and good thoughts for my darling hubby Frank! Then 9 days later, I will be next. Getting a band-to-sleeve revision on the 11th, hoping surgeon will do both in one session. Dear God, I am so nervous for us both. Be well and happy Sunday ~Susan

    Anyone from the AZ?

Where in az are you? My husband is getting sleeved tomorrow morning and I'm scheduled for a band to sleeve revision (hopefully in same surgery) on may 11th. I agree with you; time has dragged for us too!
  24. Sure thing.. Banded in 2007, lost 100lbs kept it off for the most part. Got sick of living feeling stuck and never eating and worried about long term damage so I revised to sleeve and immediately gained 30 lbs! The sleeve was much "looser" than my band and I found myself able to eat anything after years of restriction. Revised to mgb last April and I'm happy to be back on track. About 8 lbs from goal.
