-
I think those are "good" carbs at least. I just spent 15 mins looking at yogurt to find any with less sugar (that wasn't plain).

The fat free skim milk and fat free Greek yogurt is what has alot of carbs and whatever dairy I tend to drink or eat at this point has carbs in it

After surgery must haves...
CancelMyAccount1 replied to caligirltt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I am having mine on May 3rd. I got the GenPro protein powder and I also bought Bluebonnet whey protein isolate in chocolate flavor. I also got Premiere protein shakes. Other things I got are: SF Popsicles, SF jello, OIKOS Triple Zero yogurts in a lot of flavors, PB2 peanut powder to add to my shakes, 32 and 16 ounce zippy style measured bottles for my water, baby spoons, a lot of small 1/2 cup containers, cream soups, chicken and beef broths, GasX strips and Mirilax. Best of luck on your surgery! -
Just tried eating egg beaters ? Why so painful?
RickM replied to dawnmac3903's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like you are still having a fair amount of inflammation/swelling in your stomach, restricting the flow of things it. Stick to liquids and sloppier soft things for a while longer and try it again in maybe a week. This is just one of the big variables between different people as they recover from surgery - some may need to stick to liquids (and even those may be fairly restricted for a while for some,) while others will have little inflammation and restriction to liquids. Scrambled (real) eggs and yogurt were no problem for me in the hospital, and even boiled eggs the first week, while my wife had a hard time downing the protein drinks for a while - both are within the normally expected range of results the first few weeks out. -
I have mixed 1/2 scoop of powder with Greek yogurt (I love Dannon light ,& For Greek strawberry Cheesecake with 1/2 scoop vanilla powder) or sugar free chocolate pudding snack with 1/2 scoop of chocolate powder). Sent from my HTC One M9 using the BariatricPal App

not able to eat lunch with co-workers
jane13 replied to bevewhite's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work with a bunch of guys and maybe that's why I don't hear a lot of comments. I didn't share my WLS for about 4 months and then they started asking if I was ok, was I sick, was everything ok at home...I explained my surgery to them. they will occasionally ask if I am really full on a cup of yogurt. at Christmas they were surprised when I ate with them. we paid for a preordered meal. I of course had 3 meals worth but they didn't even realize that. point is that is you shouldn't feel awkward eating your lunch no matter how little or large. don't let their questions make you feel out of place. change the subject and keep eating your yogurt! -
Frozen dinner question
Inner Surfer Girl replied to bevewhite's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree that most of those meals are carb heavy and full of sodium and preservatives. For me it is fairly easy to pick a Protein and then add a vegetable it fruit. (For instance, turkey breast and green Beans or roasted Brussels sprouts or similar; cottage cheese with fresh tomato; Greek yogurt with fresh berries; chicken patty and a green vegetable; etc.) It tastes so much better than frozen meals anyway and is really easy.. -

Anesthesia is not my friend. That's what caused my issues. Incisions are not bad, intake is awful. Can't manage much. Better than yesterday so you are right it will get better. Sent from my XT1080 using the BariatricPal App When are you allowed full liquids? I start tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it. I sometimes cramp a little when drinking, but I'm getting in most of my required fluids.I can have full liquids now as well as yogurt & puddings. Not feeling it. Not meeting my goals but still trying. Better today than yesterday. Sent from my XT1080 using the BariatricPal App -
Eating the same meals
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Lisa_85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What do you like? Try fish, tuna, turkey, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, etc. My Breakfast this morning was Greek yogurt with fresh raspberries. Yesterday for dinner I cut up some tomato, and added some tzatziki sauce, a little feta, Kalamata olives and mixed it into cottage cheese. -
ANY QUICK MEAL SUGGESTIONS
Inner Surfer Girl replied to MzStockton's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It depends on your stage. Pre-op, my NUT said Lean Cuisines, etc. we're fine but to add a bag of frozen vegetables (like broccoli) to make them healthier and more satisfying. During my two-week pre-op diet which was high protein, no starches/carbs I ate a lot of turkey breast, tuna, cheese, etc. Now that I am post-op a year and on full foods, I still eat a lot of turkey breast, tuna, cheese, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, black Beans, chicken, etc. -
Three months Post-Op, Interesting news from my NUT today....
esskay77 replied to BlueBongo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That isn't too much weight loss in that time frame for a WLS person. In fact, it seems fairly normal for us. The NUT knows you had surgery, right? I am surprised they said to up your carbs this soon. I would have thought they would up your Protein. I don't know if I do this right but I always try to have a snack in the morning and one in the afternoon and it's protein. Usually a yogurt or some string cheese or a bit of cottage cheese. How many grams of protein are you getting in each day? (I'm not a NUT so don't have an educated opinion but all these NUTs don't seem to know what they are doing either, especially for WLS). There are several people on there that I hope post because they have blogged and done some great things and seem to have this down better than me. And also--congratulations on the weight loss!! -

Pureed food suggestions
KristenLe replied to Breepad09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think I'll be able to do pureeing my food. I'm going to try things like scrambled egg, beans, cottage cheese, hummus, canned tuna, canned chicken, yogurt, soft cheese, soup, ground beef. Remember to get enough protein. Watch out for carbs and sugars. Maybe its from working in a nursing home and hospital for years but the thought of pureeing normal food makes me want to gag. -
Met with my nutritionist today (7.5 weeks out) for anyone that is curious i thought id share. she said she's thrilled with my progress and that I'm right on track. On my high cardio days (I'm burning 300-600 just from cardio) to get my calorie count up to 900-1000 and on days I don't (weekends) to get close to 700-800. Otherwise she thinks my weight loss is perfect for my height. She said to stay in this calorie range during the losing phase, and that it really won't change much until after I hit goal and get to maintenance. So I'm okay to get comfortable in the 700-1000 calorie range for now. She also said that at almost 2 months and with my cardio I'm doing she would like to see me get in closer to 80-90g of protien. Right now I'm getting about 70g. And she LOVES the fact that I'm getting 90+% of my protien from chicken/yogurt/nuts etc. She also said she thinks I will be able to reach 160lbs easily. After that the weightloss will get harder. P.s. I'm currently doing about 1 hour of cardio per day (broken up into 3 segments) about 1/2 of it I'm running at a 6.5mph pace and the rest I'm walking at a 3.0-3.5mph pace on a 6% incline. This is everything I'll eat today except for dinner.

I am 3 weeks too and I don't have an appetite. If I eat a Jello cup, I can't squeeze in the last bite. I know this is only temporary so I am eating the jello, popsicles and broth. I did just try Greek yogurt yesterday and a half cup of tomato Soup watered down. I think you and I only have this for a short time before we want things that we can't have. I am loving the baggy clothes and as long as I take my Vitamins and I got a few good drink mixes from bariatric pal, I am good for now. How do you feel? Transitioning to regular diet
MiteyMom replied to kahula18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG I can't believe you all can eat!! I'm two months post RNY and still on soft food and not much of that. Just about everything makes me nauseous. Food that causes less nausea is low fat refried beans, cottage cheese, unsweetened yogurt, strawberries, some soups like turkey barley, and grilled shrimp. I still need the shakes though to get the 80-120grams of protein per day. It's a daily battle for me. -

How many calories per day in the first few months?
swizzle posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I need some advice from some bariatric veterans out there...I am almost 4 weeks out and worry that I'm already doing this wrong. I've been following my NUT's instructions, and am on the soft food stage (scrambled eggs, purees, tuna, yogurt, etc). She told me to continue doing the Protein shakes (60-80g daily) and incorporate two or three 2-4 tbsp meals in addition to this. She did not mention the amount of calories I should be getting daily. Well. I worry because it's already about 400 with the Protein Shakes (sometimes more if I use almond or skim milk), and then adding the small meals per day I am nearing 700 calories daily, and a lot of things I've read and heard is to try and stay between 300-600 calories per day. And this is at the very minimum amount of food, so I worry I'm already messing up! So my question is, what calorie range should I be within at this point, and how do people get all their protein without going over? (Some of the meals I make are 1 scrambled egg, salsa and cheese with a tiny bit of avocado mushed in / tuna and hardboiled egg with mustard and paprika / oikos triple zero greek yogurt / tilapia and mushed cauliflower) What sort of daily meals do you guys do? ***ALSO, as it gets further down the road, say 6 months+, how many tablespoons or ounces of food would you say you eat in a meal? I'm just hoping to get a frame of reference THANKS!!- 9 replies

Trouble with protein/fluid intake
Juhygtfrdsd replied to myglassesareon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Temp, temp temperature!! I LOVED ice cold water...not no more..warm, room temp or hot...isopure has several flavors and each bottle has 40gm protein...i only care for the ice tea flavor...the rest i dont care for they are a bit expensive but just try them...aso i warm up my protein in the microwave just for a few seconds...not sure about your nutritionist but yogurt, ricotta, pudding, cottage cheese was on my ok list in the liquid phase both protein!! I made baked ricotta...so many ways to get your protein in....when i first got sleeved they told me not to worry about protein until about a few days later...to just focus on liquids...i did top ramen...flavors i liked just poured out the liquid...tossed the noodles lol...dr thought that was brilliant lol -

Demonchick we don't have that brand here in NZ all the yogurts are around the same Protein levels here Sent from my iPhone -
I like salty, crunchy Snacks for the most part. I love whisps, which are basically Parmesan cheese chips. Less than 1 carb per serving and 9 g of Protein. I eat those or Quest Protein chips when I need that satisfying, salty crunch. I also like pickles, olives, Sargento cheese snacks (the new little baby stick ones come in several flavors, and about 5 of them is the perfect snack for me), a few slices of deli meat, a few almonds, etc. You get the gist. I also like light & fit Greek yogurt, and half an apple with a little bit of Peanut Butter as a treat. I keep my carbs at around 30-40 total per day (not net carbs, but total carbs), and I never really crave them anymore. I kept them at 20 total per day while I was actively really trying to get to goal.
