1. I had surgery on 8/2//016 and my starting weight was 266lbs. Today 5 weeks and 1 day later I have only lost 11lbs. Please help me to get this weight loss going! I get 80 to 90 grams of protein so I know that's not my problem. I drink 3 16.9oz water bottles a day. And I consume between 500 to 800 calories a day! Should I go back to an all liquid diet to restart? What advice can you give me? Very depressed because I'm not losing! And I don't think it's a stall cause I don't think they last 5 weeks! Please help! Thank you!
2. My loss seems a little slow to me as well, but I'm still trying to figure out how to eat with my band and also increasing my exercise. Personally I think slower is better because then maybe you will be able to keep it off. Hang in there! I keep telling myself this is a marathon not a sprint. I would love to step on the scale and see my weight down 50lbs, but I also want to do it in a healthy way.

Massive dairy food cravings

When i crave dairy I opt for string cheese sticks that weight watchers make..I eat cottage cheese with fruit and when i make my egg white omelets in the morning I used cheddar..I love cheese in my salads too..I havent eaten fast food since Ive been banded..if i decide to i will opt for a side salad with chicken...make sure u take your multivitamin and calcuim supplements..I incorporated vitamin b12 and protein shakes into my diet..when i go food shopping it is so expensive...i pay $60 a week on food..but I buy things like chicken and other meats in bulk to save $$..ive been clipping coupons to help too!!
4. Does anyone know how long clearances last? I got my clearances over with such as heart Doctor, psychologist appointment, and nutritional counseling back in August 2015. Once my insurance got back to me, they said I needed two more nutritionist appointments. Friday is my last one. I'm afraid I've gained weight. Is losing weight a MUST before surgery? Also, does anyone know how long it to their insurance to have a final approval? I have WellCare if that helps. Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal
5. I have a friend who had lapband surgery in April 2006. She started at 356 and set her own goal weight to 180. Her dr told her it should be more like 160. She is down about 125 lbs in 1.5 years which is about 65% of her excess weight. Sure the loss has slowed but I have no doubt she will reach her goal. It just depends on your doc and what their preference is but like the others stated, how much you lose is up to you.

Another thing to keep in mind is that when you do lose the weight whether it is 30% or 150% of your excess weight, the band will help you maintain the loss and you won't be yo-yoing with your weight for the rest of your life like so many of us do before surgery. And, even if you did only lose 50% of your excess weight, that is 50 lbs and it reduces your risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.
6. Candy, I am down about 65% of my excess weight since June of last years. I have about 40 more lbs to go.
7. If you follow him on Facebook or Instagram he gives away a lot of his books for free. Two are attached. 7 Pounds In 9 Days!

Has anyone's DR given them a weight loss goal (like 10 pounds) before surgery or they wouldn't do the surgery? Mine said 10 but tomorrow is my weigh in and I think I will be at 9?
10. I just got out of a 3 week long stall and went down a size in clothing during that time. I mean one week I couldn't get into a pair of pants and the next it just slipped on easily. I had to triple check that I had the same pants. From here on in, I'm on a mission to take the stigma out of stalls. I am convinced that they are good for you. I get more compliments during stalls that I get when I'm losing a pound a day by the scale. They are going to happen and like Lissa says, your body needs to adjust and reshape. If you keep getting in your Water and Protein and sticking to the serving sizes you WILL lose the weight.
11. Thank you that certainly helps. I am most afraid of the physical effects ... the psychological I can control but the physical is what bothers me the most. I absolutely HATE feeling nauseous and dizzy . I do however anticipate that it wont be an easy transition because my life will have to change entirely in order to reach not only my weight loss goal but my health goal as well. I also have never been the "skinny" girl .. so as excited as I am about losing the weight and getting healthy Im also afraid of feeling uncomfortable in my new body. .. I know these are silly concerns but I do have them lol
12. After procrastinating for 6 weeks, I've finally established a routine that I think I can stick with. The coach at my school told me I should see results with it. I hope he knows what he's talking about. I use the weight machines in the school gym for 15 minutes during my free period. I hope to get up to 30, but I'm nowhere near strong enough yet. At home, I ride my recumbent bike for 20-30 minutes After that, I do a short kettlebell workout for 5-10 minutes.

Stretch Marks~~

Has anyone had large stretch marks on their stomach before surgery that hopefully went away after weight loss or at least became less noticeable?? I am hoping to hear some good news!!
14. I am week 4+ and loving it. I was scared to go out at first (not sure of what maybe being sick). I just take a freezer lunch bag with yogurt, Protein liquid gel, or anything I may need. Oh and a big thing of Water. I got to start soft foods early because i became lactose intolerant. Hope that goes away. Other than making myself get out (cause of tiredness) I am so happy. Losing weight and going down sizes + the thought that this is just the beginning. No more yoyoying weight ---- all down from here!!!! I have never had that feeling before. I had a 2 week preop shake diet too and am down 32 lbs since that started. Anyone else excited with stories? Please share. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
15. I know I probably should have posted this in another topic area but I figured I get more input here. Thanks y'all! To Whom It May Concern, I am hereby requesting a reversal of the initial denial for the bariatric surgery(WLS) known as the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy/Gastric Sleeve (VSG) by BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois. This request is made due to BCBS's assessment that my BMI is below 40. At my initial consult with Dr. Rantis, my BMI was 40.5. At that time, I met your requirement of a BMI greater than 40 without comorbitities. BCBS required that I follow a 3 month, medically supervised diet. In doing so, I lost weight and therefore, my BMI lowered slightly. To deny me for WLS because I followed BCBS requirements is profoundly confusing to me, not to mention unfair and devastating. I HAVE met the medical requirements to establish medical necessity for VSG. I am a 35 year old, morbidly obese female. I have been overweight or obese for my entire life, childhood through adulthood (my medical records prove this). While, I currently do not suffer from any comorbitties, it is just a matter of time until I develop the many disease that run in my family. Type II diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, arthritis and Cancer are diseases that are in my bloodline. It is not "if" I develop these horrific diseases but "when" will I develop these diseases. At my current state, I am a ticking time bomb. I have tried countless times throughout my life to lose the weight and keep it off. I can manage to lose a little bit of the weight but always gain it back and then some. Again, my medical records prove this. I have 3 young daughters and I need to be healthy and live a long time for them. I am confident that the VSG is the tool I need that will save me from the misery that obesity always causes. This surgery will open a new door in my life. I will no longer feel ashamed of my body and my health. I will no longer have to worry about the impending diseases I will most certainly face. I will not have to worry about about my children having to watch their mother suffer because of obesity. The surgery will allow me to live the life I have always wanted and deserved. I am asking for you to reconsider your denial and approve coverage of the VSG. Please take a closer look at my request and approve for the VSG. You will see that I have met the requirement of a BMI greater than 40 and successfully completed the 3 month medically supervised diet. Thank you.
16. I have been so ridiculously busy for the last 5 weeks- family vacation, a gas leak in our house AND a flooded basement while we were gone(!!!!!) and finally packing up and taking my oldest child to college last Sunday. Whew! (Not to mention the start of school for the two high schoolers last week as well!) All of that said, I just realized that TODAY I am exactly 5 months post op RNY. WHAT a journey it has been!!!! HW 282 Surgery day- 272 Current weight 186 (ish) lol I'm teetering the last three days 187-185 That means that I am only ...drum roll please... 3 pounds from being down 100 lbs from my HW and 13 lbs from 100 from surgery day! Omg!!!!! I'm 46 lbs from my goal!!!! That is less than half of what I've lost so far! Good luck peeps! This has been and continues to be the best decision ever. Oh, still can't eat any beef products, gets stuck. Never had dumping syndrome as I completely avoid sugars and fried foods. Ok. The pics- for reference- my wedding day (20 years ago!!), next me at my HW, then with youngest son 5 years ago. Then the one with my hubby, son and me at 2 months post op. The one with me and hubby 2.5 months post op and finally with me and my cousin taken this weekend- only a selfie of our faces but you can see the difference. I'll grab a full shot in the am and add it Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Fill/Unfill Pain

Hello everyone! I was banded three years ago in April. I just had my first unfill because I was getting HORRIBLE heartburn and couldn't keep much down. He took out 2cc's and unforutnately, I gained back some of my weight. I got refilled yesterday but cannot keep anything down, including water. I'm back up to my 7 cc's, where I was before, but it feels so much tighter. Has this happened to anyone?

help me calm my nerves

I understand the healing issue but it still doesn't make sense. Extra diligence during the healing phase can eliminate most of the diabetic risk of complication. I'd say it's more of a risk to *not* do anything. I saw three surgeons and none of them mentioned an a1c requirement. But then again.....a lot of the rules don't make sense. The one that truly kills me are the policies that insist you lose certain percentage of weight before they'll pay for surgery. It's like....seriously?? Hope your blood sugar troubles resolve enough for surgery!
20. My doctor refered me to a nutritionist. He said I have to see an nutritionist for 6 months, go to a physical therapist, and then to a psyc doc. What is going to happen at this nutrition apt? I'm I required to lose weight?:help: Kitty

Frustration Nation

What the freaking f*ck is up with my appetite? TOM came and all of a sudden I am RAVENOUS! I mean like a starving animal. I know some of it is head hunger having to do with some minor stuff in my RL but sheesh. Brownies, cake, Oreos (I used to HATE Oreos), pancakes, honey glazed chicken, fried chicken (used to LOATH fried chix). Furthermore where is my restriction? It is all but gone. I can put away a full plate of food. EASILY. So with that said, here is my plan from now on. I am making a fill appointment and am gonna request a band placement check for a month from now. In that time I will really closely assess my hunger and appetite. I want to be logical about this an not jump to being super tight because TOM is making me a beast. But TOM was also preceded by almost 2 straight weeks of partying and very little exercise. I am not going let myself get dismayed about being stuck in the 250's. I refuse to fail. I refuse to stop now. Admittedly I feel leaps and bounds better than I have EVER felt in my whole life and in the past few weeks especially my confidence has just begun to soar. I will accept these last few weeks as major NonScale progress. My weight may have been still and my eating not so grand but my soul and mind have been working overtime. Okay. Im okay.

Ready for mushies?!?

Onmyway, did your dr give you a timeline on when to change to the next stage? Mine was liquids for 1 wk (2 if needed) then 1 week mushies then 1 week soft then the next week regular food. I didnt switch all my food when i advanced to the next stage. Example--i still did all liquids but added some greek yogurt one day. Then maybe the next added sf pudding. Just go slow and try new foods. You cant not advance bc you are afraid of a stall or gain. You are healing!! That should be your focus. I was weighing myself daily or everyother day and i decided once a week only!! Right now i am just focusing on making good food choices, eating when im hungry and walking. Oh btw--best mushy meal ever some ricotta cheese topped with marinara baked then sprinkled with mozz cheese. Oh my goodness. So good. Beats a cup of chicken broth any day!! J Banded 9/22

I had the sleeve

Can you keep protein shakes down? What does your doctor say? Have you contacted them? Its a fabulous weight loss. You say you are pre op. Are you having a revision due to this problem?
24. I had very little restriction after my band was put in, after i got past the mushies i found that i was hungary just like i was before surgery. My doctor told me not to be surprised if i lost little weight between the actual banding surgery and my first fill. I ate nothing that required a lot of chewing. Now that i have had my first fill 4/29, I have just a little bit more restriction. I am still hungary after about 2 hours after i eat and thats when you have your protein shake. After your fill, you will feel a difference. Good Luck!!
25. I've had the band for 4 years. During the first 2-1/2 years I only lost 20 pounds. I had 2 fills, up to 1.5 cc but have never felt any restriction. After reading all the stories about PBing and reflux I was really afraid to get restriction and never went back for another fill. Through willpower and following WW, I've managed to lose 50 pounds. Now I'm scheduled for a tummy tuck and am thinking about having it removed during that procedure. I went for an unfill last week and the doctor said the band was wide open and asked how had I taken off the weight. He wondered if I had gotten fills somewhere else. He also said the band was perfectly positioned, as if it had been put in yesterday. He removed 1.5 cc's so now it's completely empty. I've lost another 3 pounds since then because I want to lose as much as possible before my surgery. The band has never given me any trouble but I think that's because I haven't had many fills and have never had any restriction. If I'm not going to use it the way it's supposed to be used, then why have it? I guess I'd rather do it with willpower than deal with throwing up and having food get stuck. Also I worry that the jury is still out on the long-term risk for complications for bandsters, i.e. it's not "if" but "when" something will go wrong. Like a ticking time bomb. Has anybody else experienced this? Kalona
