    TMI question

I didn’t have any problems on my pre-op diet. However, for about a week after surgery it was bad! I only had one accident where I didn’t make it to the bathroom and it was in the hospital. All I have to say is never trust a fart [emoji16]

    TMI question

I had the Sleeve and the DS which would cause more pooping. I personally have not had any issues. Some foods will make you go more than others some become more lactose intolerant. You could keep track as you reintroduce food and if it gives you the runs then try it again after a few weeks.
  3. Well I had my first visit with Dr Woodmans Office yesturday I had to watch this boring video and go over what else I need before we send in to the ins comp. for approval. I thought I would have at least got to meet the Dr. But I only saw him on the video. My hisband and friend have both worked with him at Methodist Germantown but I think it would make a better impact if he meet his patient on the first visit I myself would rather ask him about any concern then his staff before I putting all this time into it if I had doughts. Anyways It went good alls my ins request is medical record ( which i took with me), a letter from my dr (which was faxed to them while I was there) the pshch and nutr. eval.:scared2: I have psych set up for wed. 4/8 but I am having a hard time finding the nutr. assessment. Anyone know of one in memphis or around the area that I can get into fast. I set up a appt with Dr Rice's office to find out once I got there that she did not do the assessment for psych because she was only a social worker and the Dr in the office that did it did not take my ins. I was so mad I asked every question and told them what I need when I mad the appt. So I went home and just started calling everyone on my ins list till I found Dr Amos. :cool2: He said he does this assessment for about all Dr woodmans pts. And I got a appt. for right away not weeks down the road. He spoke to me and set the appt up himself and email me all the 26 pages of paper work you fill out to do before the appt. which I thought was great. I hate sitting in a office filling out paperwork. He also told me he would have it to Dr woodman on that monday following my appt. I hope to find a nutr. soon my goal is to have everything I need to get sent off by 4/13. MY b-days in May and that would be the best b-day present ever to be able to have a date.. better yet have it done.... :tt2:
  4. They have no way of knowing until they actually go in. The 2 week or however long liquid diet or high protein no carb diet is to shrink the liver so the chances of it being too big are a lot less.

    light headed

yes, at one point I simply went and ate extra spoonful or two of yogurt because I was completley wiped a little freaky feeling like that to much, but post surgery diet gone I don't have these troubles at all, 3 months out now.
  6. Hi all! I decided to start sharing my story since I am coming from a totally different perspective than most, I am a registered and licensed dietitian! While I have battled weight all my life and I have all the knowledge I could imagine on eating healthy....I let my mind take over and ignored what was happening to my body. Never in a million years did I think that I would have WLS, but I did! I think the idea of the sleeve and removing the factor of malabsorption as in the bypass helped with my decision. While I was a very healthy obese person, I knew the consequences that would face me later in life if I didn't make a drastic change. In addition, my confidence as a dietitian became nonexistent. I needed to get my mojo back....so here I am 1 week out from surgery and overcoming the hurdles of recovery. I started at 285 pounds before preop diet and as of today I am 249! While my education tells me this can't be healthy, my mind and body know it's a necessity and I will ultimately reach a healthy goal. I love reading all your posts and support! This is truly a journey for all...I joke around that I am going to write a book because I am probably the only Registered Dietitian that had WLS! Lol! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. It's perfectly normal to be nervous and scared. If you weren't I would be worried about you. Now the chances of your liver being too big is very slim. Especially for women, it's more common for men. I've only seen one or two people on here say they couldn't get the band because their liver was too big. They did a couple more weeks on the liquid diet and they were good to go. They were both guys. You'll go great. Good luck and take care and let us know how it goes as soon as you can. Just go to www.tickerfactory.com select the weight loss, follow the instructions, then copy and past the url in your signature, and your'e good to go.

    Restriction and daily calories

I'm exactly the same! Lost NOTHING for 3 months. I eat about 1000 a day. Dr said stop the shake. Nut said too MUCH protein, add small fruit, then dr said no fruit, add shake....I'm so confused! I've tried changing what I eat, how much, increased activity, increased water, etc. a friend that is about a year out said it happened to her too, said one day just started falling off quickly again. I'm praying for that day! Lol

    Severe mood swings

a lot of women complain about moodiness the first few months. I'm not sure if there's actual medical research to back this up, but many people have said it's because estrogen is stored in fat cells, and when you lose weight quickly, a lot of that is released. Many women also report screwed-up menstrual cycles the first few months, so I suspect the hormone theory is probably correct. It should all work itself out though - it doesn't seem to last more than a few months - so you may be near the end of it. 45 lbs in 3 months is pretty good. It takes many of us about a year to lose 100 lbs, so you're doing just fine. as far as baggy, saggy skin - some of that will look better eventually because things seem to re-distribute a bit over time - but after a 100 lb weight loss, you'll inevitably have some saggy skin. I had a ton of it. I could easily hide it in clothes so no one knew it was there, but *I* knew it was there, so I had it removed when I was about three years out. So that's an option if you decide you can't live with it..
  11. I thought I wanted to go down a little more, but frankly, I'm tired of buying new clothes! Well, I'm not tired as much as my credit cards are.... That's after I tried on a couple things I just bought like 5 weeks ago and they were almost too big! I know, I know. First world problems.
  12. When I decided to stop losing, I was still food journaling everything on MFP so I calculated my BMR using the tools form that site and added a few hundred calories until I stopped losing. Did that for about another 6 months and finally (and purposefully) let go of the journaling in favor of a more natural lifestyle. For me, the habits are are there... exercise 5x per week, small, high protein meals, etc. I eat what I'll call "righteously" 85%-90% of the time, stay active and have maintained within 5 pounds for the last year and 1/2. If I creep up, I adjust out some of the junk, (alcohol and treats) until I'm back in the zone. Typically takes less than a week.

    Periods

I have very heavy periods and sometimes 3 times a month for about 2 to 7 days each period. Not a pleasant experience. A couple years ago i had to get a blood transfusion because of the heavy blood loss. Does anyone have heavy periods? Does it get better after WLS?

    Banded 4/23

Wow...well here I am banded for a week and 2 days. I am back at work today for the first time and OMG my port is killing me. I have gotten up and walked every 15 minutes becauase that is all that helps. I have a desk jpb so it is not that bad, but I feel like I am always walking around. My manager is ok with it and she knows I get my work done, but it scares me as to what others will think. I am not hungry, but also terrified to put anything thicker than cream soup in my mouth. I am down 10 lbs from my surgury date and I love it!!! One week 10 lbs I'll take it! hope everyone is doing well!
  15. I've have my first appointment with the bariatric surgeon next week, but am becoming worried that my insurance, United Healthcare, may not cover the operation. I was told by them on the phone that hyptertension counted as a comorbidity. However, after reading the lengthy policy statement, it seems to indicate that insurance is only covered if your high blood pressure is not well controlled by medication. Also, I'm at the low end of the BMI requirements. If I diet for six months, as required for the insurance, I risk falling below the required 35 BMI. This all seems counterintuitive. Has anyone had experience with these situations?

    Colorado Surgeons

Surgeon Name Dr Michael Snyder Location Denver / Rose Medical Center Date of banding 4/11/08 What your surgeon closed with (sutures, glue, staples, etc) glue How many incisions 5 3 of mine were slightly larger due to previous mediacl history Type of band (if you know) I have'nt aked this yet will on my next visit I think I got a card in the hosoital but can't find it now. Overall cost of your surgery (if you wish to share) check out his web site @denverbariatrics.com And your personal review of the surgeon and his/her office and they are great several are band or bypass patients themselves. He offers a full program and support not just surgery and fill. I opted to drive from Ne because I trully believe he has a great program and if you are not successful it is because you didn't follow through with his recommendations. Most of which I'm finding through this website are much more realistic and doable then a lot of them out there. Good luck in your search.

    Construction worker

I’d guess you’ll likely need a my least a month off. I work a desk job and was out for two weeks. However, I wasn’t allowed to life anything over 15lbs for like a month to 6 weeks. It will also depend on your age/overall health. Best thing would be to ask your team when they think you’ll be cleared for regular duty!
  18. It definitely gets better. Pain was very manageable by the end of the first week. Walking and moving helps a lot with it. I had the exact opposite problem with urinating. Once they took my catheter out because of all the fluids from the IV I had to pee about once an hour. This meant getting up alot, and on the second night it meant getting up out of bed every 1-2 hours.
  19. This is when you realize that all those people who said you took the "easy way out" were a bunch of liars! Haha. You will be fine. It's like any other surgery, there's a recovery time so give yourself the space to recover. Almost everyone questions their decision when they're going through the first few weeks. It will get so much better.. your life I mean, will improve greatly and the surgery itself will be a distant memory. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App
  20. I was exactly the same. 3 days in hospital with nausea but never threw up. I was 7 days post op before I could sleep on my side. It is common not to be able to pass urine post op. That won't last. I promise it will get easier. Just take each day as it comes. This will all be behind you very soon. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
  21. I am also in the process of doing this. I'm almost 4.5 years out with my band. I only lost about 25 lbs but have gained it back! I have type 2 diabetes and pcos. My current surgeon told me that the band is NOT for people with 100 lbs to lose and it is NOT for someone with diabetes. He also said they are taking out more bands than they are putting in. (I'm going to the naval hospital in Portsmouth, VA; its huge so i'd imagine that they see a lot of these!) I have seen quite a few people able to lose 100 lbs but they were already very verrrry overweight. I don't know how many were diabetic. I do know that I'm pissed! I needed to lose this weight 5 years ago, so I'm beyond ready for june 12 to be here. My doctor says my surgery will take about an hour and a half, but has allotted 3 hours for it in case of any band complications. Keep us informed on how things go for you!
  22. So I’m roughly one month before surgery and curious what others did to prepare. I’m ordering vitamins so that I can make them a routine, I’ll stop the relaxing drink or two after dinner and start walking more but is there anything else that would be a good idea? My physician meeting is one week prior to surgery so any liquid diet will be less then seven days, which I’m not looking forward to doing!
  23. I tapered off coffee, got on a vitamin, calcium +D, and biotin, got food for my prep, got some 2 oz. containers for after, bought a treadmill and started walking on it, and did a lot of reading about the procedure. I start prep tomorrow because it's 1 week until surgery!

    Nervous!

I had mine done on 8/20 and I still have pain especially on the left side. Sitting up is murder...so is laughing, coughing and sneezing. Other than that I'm ok....having pain for a few weeks is normal and everyone is different.

    Nerves

I'm in the exact boat. I am have lap band in 2 weeks and have little support. I'm going to rely on the people here and go to some support groups. I'm so scared of failing but I see so much success here that I know this time will be different.
