    I need help! (plateau breakers)

There's a couple of things you might try changing to see if it makes a difference. First, try freshly prepared foods instead of Lean Cuisine or Hamburger Helper. HH, in particular, has a pretty high load of sodium which isn't good for you and helps you to retain Water (like you need help with that, right??). Trye writing down EVERY BITE you put in your mouth for a week. I think you might be as surprised as I was ... the couple of crackers I didn't think about added up to more than 100 calories a week; the spoonful of nuts in the late afternoon was more than 300 calories a week; the "smidge" of extra this or that, added up to as much as 200 calories in a week. Look even at the calories in Crystal Light and other flavored waters. Those little "stick" packets say to mix the contents of the package with about 16 oz. of water BUT if you read the nutritional panel, a serving is ONE-HALF A PACKET so that 1 packet is 10 calories, not 5. Some people drink several of them a day because they don't like water very much. That adds up to more than 100 calories a week if you're drinking them steadily. Pretty soon you've got 1000 calories which is an extra day's worth of calories. It's the little things. I have a friend who was hooked on those Vitamin Water drink bottles -- until she realized that one bottle had more than 50 calories. She was focusing on the Vitamins but realized she was taking in more than 1000 calories extra a week JUST with those waters. Try doing a different exercise. If you're going to the gym and working out on elliptical or whatever, try a few days of circuit training. If you're walking every day, try swimming every day We tend to settle into a comfortable rut and eat the same few selections of food, do the same exercise....shake it up! And, let us know if it makes a difference.
  4. And now the May 2019s are starting to show up. A warm friendly welcome to both of you. I am an RnY of 6 1/2 months, had some setbacks but I do not regret the choice I made. For me it was the very best, and as I lose weight, getting fitter and healthier, I can only be grateful that my past is behind me!
  5. Hello, I had my revision from sleeve to bypass on 10/27/21, only 3 weeks ago. I also had hiatal hernia repair, and gallbladder removal all at once. I am feeling good, no vomiting. Still on liquid stage, proceeding to soft solids soon. However, I am feeling GERD again! and worried the revision will not successfully resolve this frustrating issue. The nurse said to give it time. Did anyone have GERD weeks after their revision surgery? If so, did it resolve with time? Please I need some feedback! Thanks!

    Any Wii Fit Users??

I'm having a lot of fun with the wii fit. I am trying to do about 15 minutes of the aerobics 10 of strength training and 5 each of balance and Yoga. Its still new to me so I'm going over but oh well lol. My favorite are the balance games. The only things I am ignoring right now are the ones that get you on the ground. I want to lose a little more weight before I go there.

    Any Wii Fit Users??

I love the Wii fit. The step is great and the hula hoop. I just unlocked the boxing (punching bag) game and I love it. I was so sore after doing it for about 10 minutes. I only get to use it on the weekends and it is in addition to my running 5 days per week. I think it is a great addition to a workout routine.

    wait a minute

If you have trouble getting your Protein drinks in, try this schedule. Drink 2-3 oz protein at the top of each hour. At each 15 minutes interval there after, drink 2-3 oz of hydrated liquids. in a normal 15 hour waking period each day, that will net you 30-45 oz of protein averaging 17-23 gr per 10 ounces. and well over your needed hydration Fluid. Just after surgery this was my routine for 3 weeks and I was never hungry or dehydrated. Worked for me. Spacing the fluids out helped immensely. Good luck!

    I feel like a failure

10 pounds in less than a month sounds pretty good to me. What did you expect?
  10. I was sleeved the same day as well....I am down 68 lbs and went from a size 20 to an 8! Your weight loss isn't slow. 10 pounds a month is nothing to sneeze at! Keep up the good work. Glad you will be able to see your doctor again. We sleevers are tough in many ways but we need our medical check ups to make sure everything is on track. Living the dream!!, Laura

    Lapband slippage opinions...

This has probably been posted before but it is relevant here and might be new to some. I might just go and add it to the Headhunter thread too, for the benefit of the newbies who are reading that. LAP-BAND: Statistics subframe <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top noWrap width=530 height=60>Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding In 2000 Consecutive Obese Patients: 12-Year Results </TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top noWrap width=565 colSpan=2> Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAGB) with the LAP-BAND is the most commonly performed surgical procedure for the treatment of morbid obesity in Europe, Australia and South America. Since FDA approval in 2001 the LAP-BAND has ranked second among all bariatric procedures performed in the U.S. and, to date, approximately 300,000 LAP-BAND procedures have been performed worldwide. Background: The purpose of this study was to examine 1,791 consecutive laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) procedures with up to 12 years of follow up. LAGB is widely accepted but its efficacy in the long run is questioned since long term results with a high follow-up rate are not common. Between September 1993 and December 2005, 1,791 consecutive patients (75.1% women, mean age 38.7 years, mean body weight 127.7+ –24 kg, mean body mass index (BMI) 46.2+ –7.7) underwent the LAP-BAND procedure. All operations were performed by ILOST surgeons, Dr. Franco Favretti and Dr. Gianni Segato, part of the multi-disciplinary team that developed the laparoscopic application of the LAP-BAND back in 1993. Results: The ILOST team of surgeons has performed the LAP-BAND procedure on more than 6.000 patients. Dr. Franco Favretti and Dr. Gianni Segato have just published the long term results (more than 12 years) of their own series of 2.000 patients. These results are unparalleled. There are no similar reports in the scientific literature. Results measured over 12 years included mortality, complications, weight loss and resolution/improvement of co-morbidities. Life expectancy was evaluated in an additional study of LAP-BAND vs. medical therapy. Patients were followed at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months post-operatively and yearly thereafter. Band adjustments were performed with barium swallow under fluoroscopy. Zero surgical mortality in the entire series. A mortality rate of 0 in 1,791 consecutive LAP-BAND patients attests to the benign nature of the LAP-BAND surgery. Re-operation rate of less than 5%. Major complications requiring re-operation occurred in 106 (5.9%) patients. These included stomach slippage + pouch dilatation in 70 (3.9%) patients (band removed in 20 patients–1.1%, repositioned in 50 patients–2.8%), erosion in 16 (0.9%) patients (band removed), psychological intolerance in 14 (0.7%) patients (band removed), miscellaneous (HIV, infection, mircroperforation) in 5 (0.27%) patients (band removed) and gastric necrosis in 1 (0.05%) patient (gastrectomy performed). If we exclude the 31 major complications of the learning curve period (first 100 patients), the complication rate is reduced to 4.4%. Unprecedented 12-year follow-up rate of 91% allowed ILOST surgeons to report reliable data. Most common co-morbidities were hypertension (35.6%), osteoarthritis (57.8%), diabetes (22%), dislipidemia (27.1%), sleep apnea (31.4%), depression (21.2%), hyperuricemia (27.1%), gallstones (8.7%) irregular menstrual cycle (4.9%), heart failure (1.4%), sweet eating (22.5%) and binge eating (18.5%). Average weight loss in the entire series of 1,791 patients. Weight loss (kg, BMI, %EWL) for the entire series is represented in Figure 1. At 10 years the average weight was 101.4 ± 27.1 kg (loss of 26.3 kg), the BMI 37.7 ± 9.1 (loss of 8.5 points) and the %EWL was 38.5 ± 27.9. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
  13. You can drink as much as you want. It goes right through... you may not WANT 3 cups at a time though. But yea you need to drink 64oz a day, so drink away I spend about 10-15 minutes on dinner. It depends on your tightness and how your band reacts... But you need to eat smaller bites.. it's more about tricking your brain into being satisfied with the small amount of food. Also for some people if you eat too fat it gets stuck and you puke it right back up. I can feel my port if I touch it.. but doesn't really feel like anything inside me. You can vomit, I don't see why it'd hurt anymore than usual.. Unless it's during the first few days when you are healing. OF course you get more energy when you lose weight I can eat pasta, some people can't.. but it's not great for you, and it has a lot of calories, and you can't eat very much it, so I usually just don't have it... or whole wheat that has Protein in it is a better option.

Congratulations!!! This is so encouraging.. I am glad to read this...Thank you!! I was banded on Nov 29..I weighed at the dr this past Monday and had lost 10 lbs..I was so disappointed but the nurse said that I was fine...This past week I have not weighed but the pants that I wear to work have been so tight that it was such a relief to get home to get them off...Now I can pull them off with out unbuttoning them...!!!!I was so happy!...My shirts are so loose except the ones that were really "form fitting" before the surgery!! My bra is so loose...Duct tape is gonna take on a new meaning... I'm loving it!!! My feet don't hurt like they used to but that might be in my head...I am anxious to weigh again but am going to put it off for another week!

    Scrub Up...its About That Time!!!

bless your heart, girl I was there too; the ins denied me 3 times and then on the 4th try I had my Rhumetologist call them saying I had fibromyalgia and sure enough i was approved the very next day and my surgery was june 30th 2011. as for pain, I wish I could tell you it didnt hurt...sorry...right when I came too in the recovery room it sucked ass, it hurt so freaking bad I cried. however oddly enough the pain didnt last that long (5-10 min) and it was like nothing happened. lol...girl my point is dont think about the pain, think about the future you will have being smaller. also as for cheating, I did aswell. the only way you wouldnt have it is if you cheated everyday. you will be fine! if you need anything let me know, Ill do my best to walk you through

    Out Of Control???-help!!!!

10/2/05 Ok, dont know if im pmsing or what but today and yesterday has not been a good day for this bandster. So much seems to be going on that im not focusing on what i should be doing. Am 8 weeks post op, had first fill 9/8 but dont feel too much restriction. Know I have lost, im down 3 sizes, my rings are really, really loose, others notice but I feel like im sliding down to bad habit land. Shoot today I had 3 med size slices of pizza and yesterday I had some cake and ice cream (father in laws birthday). Thought I have been eating the right things but some of it didnt feel right so when I went to a number of band sights for food Ive found I havent. I think my calories and volume is too much. Dont know what is the right fomula anymore. Have been recovering from a crudy cold for over a week which zaps my energy so havent exercized either. When I do eat I dont feel much of a restriction. Confused on whether I should get another fill. Theres a part of me that really thinks the 1.5 ccs wasnt enough. Sort of felt that way since I had it done. And my schedule on when to eat is off too. Ive been so on the positive and now I feel somewhat down. Hormones maybe? I just dont know. Boy what can I do to resolve some of these issues?? Where should I start? Is this normal when the newness of the band wears off? Ive had what i consider great NSV's but I so afraid Im gonna blow it!!!!!! Micki
  18. I can't say i've had any huge cravings but I did start drinking V8 juice like a madwoman right after surgery - I've always loved tomatoes but the juice almost made me throw up - I would pour it for my guy holding my breath. Now about 10 months out - I can take it or leave it again.

Hi eveyone 2 days to go before surgery.( Tuesday ). I weight in this morning @ 322 lbs ( yesterday it was 320.8 ) When I saw the doctor in September he said he wanted me to lose 19 lbs ( was 339 lbs then ). I have an appt on Monday @ 8:30 A.M. so I hope to be down to 320 lbs. Any last minute tips on losing 2 lbs fast. I am doing the Full liquid diet today/ clear liquid diet on Monday. Any tips?? Thanks Joe
  20. Its been 15 years and 10 months since my surgery and I have lost 196 lbs and kept it off. I have a goal for this year of getting down to 164 lbs from 199 lbs where I'm at now. I was 24 lbs heavier just over 2 months ago. I've been using an app called myfitnesspal.com to lose the weight. It took my a little bit to get the hang of it but now I'm comfortable with it. I pick my foods and it gives my the serving size and calories and deducts the calories from my daily limit. It sets up your plan by diet, starting weight and goal weight. As you lose the weight you change your current weight and it adjusts your allowable daily calories to keep you losing weight. I tried it free for a month and was shocked at how much I had lost so I purchased a one year plan and it wasn't expensive. I have the app on my phone and it is easy to use. I hope that this information is helpful for someone.
  21. My PCP was very supportive of the lap band and never talked about by pass to me. The surgeon and her staff were all really happy that i picked the lap band. The Surgeon even told me that she would not have done by pass on me because the nurses get upset when she operates on young people ( i was 19)Overall everyone was very positive.
  22. I'm on day 6 of a ten day liquid diet, and all I can say is it is way harder than I anticipated. I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but it's just my experience. I can't wait to be banded and NOT be starving!! On a positive note, I have lost 7.5 pounds, and the doctor wanted me to lose between 8 and 10, so I should be there by this Thursday, which is when my surgery is. Best of luck to you on the diet and with your surgery! Melissa C. Big Lake, MN Lap band 12/10/09
  23. I am on day 10 of 14 of the Optifast diet and I have the following tips. 1. The first couple of days stink. This is the reality, no other way around it. I slept alot those 2 days. 2. The shakes taste better if blended in the blender with ice and add artificial sweetner like Splender to them. Makes them so much better. 3. Make sure you are following the exact way your doctor tells you to do them. Mine is 5 packets a day. Do not skip 1, makes you miserable the next morning for some reason. 4. Lots of Water or you will feel, for lack of better words, stopped up. The water does the trick I promise. Amazing the amount of knowledge one can gain in 10 days of nothing but Optifast shakes. I can tell you it does get easier after the first couple of days and is really not bad now. GOOD LUCK!!:w00t:

    New !

I am 5'4" and 260 lbs. I have been heavy all my life, too. I grew up poor in Louisiana. Food was typical Cajun food as it is cheap and plentiful ie. meat, rice, gravy, fried foods, etc. On top of this, my mother had absolutely no idea of portion sizes for a child. She gave us adult portions and were made to eat it all. Furthermore, she had this paranoid delusion that somehow we were going to be hungry going to bed so we had a bowl of cereal and milk to go to bed on, nevermind we could roll faster than we could walk. On top of that the household was abusive and neglectful. As a result myself and two siblings suffer with weight issues due to overeating and emotional eating. I was also diagnosed with PCOS 10 years ago. My weight has been a constant struggle.

    Down 25 Pounds...1st Fill Tomorrow!

I was banded 4/8/13...I was filled with 5. On date of surgery. I had fill May 1, 2013. .7 for a total 5.7. Weight is fluctuating after off mushies. I was sticking to 1200 calories. They told me to change to 1100. So far I've kept 10-12 ibs off. I have a 10 cc. I was told I was eating to much sugar. Jello/pudding. I've taken that put and dropped back to 15 pounds. Still no real restriction but I have been staying full. I just need help with food choices. I've lost a ton of inches. I'm in jeans I haven't worn comfortably in years. Down to 16. But I hope to loose 60 -75 more. They scheduled me for another fill in 2 weeks.
