    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Thank you for the support. I know this is just my DR looking our for me. But this waiting is awful. Hopefully I will have good news Wednesday. I hope all your journeys are going smoothly. New_Me 2019
  4. Had my first PCP visit in over a decade today, & I'm currently fasting to complete blood work tomorrow. She's agreed to write the referral to the WLS center that I chose & I have my initial consultation with the surgeon set up for May 22nd. I know these are just the first steps to getting the checklist for insurance approval (7 mos. nutritional counseling) but each step makes me feel more solid in my decision & excited for my future :770_yellow_heart:

:323_star2:PS~Extra win, when they weighed me I was down 10 lbs from when I weighed myself a month ago(I've been tracking calories/macros & working hard on portion control) :323_star2:

    May 2019 Surgeries 🎉

5/14/19 and I am nervous! I am glad I found this forum
  6. I am pre-op for my sleeve so take my advice for what it is! I had the lap band about 10 years ago, and realize now I was not ready for the band when I had it placed. I am also a over eater and realized through several years of therapy that I actually had BED (Binge Eating Disorder). Once I started to get help for that, everything else fell into line. I am no longer gaining weight but instead am maintaining my weight (I also feel prepared for my sleeve!). Something to think about, as food is a complex and complicated issue for most of us. If you constantly feel like you are beating your head against a wall, sometimes it is time for some outside help to give you some coping skills. I first started with overeaters anonymous, and then went on to counseling sessions.

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Thank you. I am trying so hard to remain positve. He keeps telling me he is just checking but this is scary and I just want to move on. I feel good, his nurse keeps calling me to see how I am feeling today. FINE. I am not sick... just fat and need a bit of help with that. Drinking my water, walking, and watching what I eat.[emoji1] New_Me 2019

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Hi everyone! Kind of down today. I have a tentative surgery date of 6/4/19. Just need PCP clearance. Today was the 4th visit in a month. He keeps ordering the same blood work. Today he smiled and said "better this is good news". Then ordered another blood test. Results will be in Wednesday. (They are watching high white blood cells and have done 3 studies, no cancer cells but abnormal cells present. I have a son with lukemia CML.). Surgeon insurance gal worried we are cutting authorization close. She penciled me in on both 6/4 and 6/11. When I worry I tend to eat and my weight has been stuck at 215 for about a month. So BMI 39-40. So now not sure how long for preop diet. So weight check on Wednesday. Sorry for rant, just so close and still soooo far away. New_Me 2019

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Little over 8 months post op. Can’t seem to get out of 203 to 205 range. Tried IF, Tried dropping carbs to like 20 to 25 a day and managed to drop 1 freaking pound in 2 weeks. Protein is perfect getting about 100 oz water a day. This weekend was mother’s day so I had a free weekend. And scale said 210 this morning! I am up 5 pounds since Friday. I am so frustrated right now. Wondering if anyone has tried a 10 day liquid diet this far out in the game? Like 4 protein shakes a day for the next 10 days? Would I finally see numbers 195 to 198? Or just setting myself up for a huge disappointment and hunger? I am afraid my body is just done. The scale has just gone up in down in 8 pound range for about 3 months now. I see my doctors and my nut every 3 months so I saw them in March and they were happy with everything I was doing. They also told me if I lose anymore it will not come easy. But I feel like I am still working hard but just have nothing to show for it. So I see them again in month and have made 0 progress since I was there last. I just want to get to 185 to 190 ish and then have skin surgery. Any thoughts on the liquid diet thing? Guess I just hope it would kick start something again.

    Disappearing lapbanders

I did not read most of the replies, but I previously had a band in 2010. I chose it because it was “least invasive”, or so I thought. I lost allllllllllll of my weigh with it beautifully, followed all the rules etc. After two back to back deaths I couldn’t eat anything & was put on liquids a week. Following that, I began throwing up from eating + ultimately ended with a slip. It was VERY hard finding a revision surgeon. Even my original surgeon (a top bariatric surgeon in ATL) no longer performs the band surgery. I finally found a surgeon I loved, but he also refused and equated it to “ walking around with an iPhone 3 in 2019 when technology has surpassed it”. All of my fave 7 banders, besides 2 , have also said goodbye to the band. I, for one, LOVED my band and am in no way trying to discourage anyone. I am simply speaking my truth and sharing the opinions of other surgeons. I believe that complications and advances in medicine may contribute to the decline in banders..... I successfully revised to the MGB.
  12. Hi all...I had gastric bypass surgery on 4/22/19. Everything was going great up until this past Wednesday. Since then it's been non stop diarreah and nausea. I haven't really been able to eat or really drink anything but I'm trying to get as much Gatorade into me as I can. I finally got the lab tests back and I'm told I have a c diff infection. They gave me antibiotics which I'm having a very hard time taking them. I've crushed and cut in pieces and everytime I try and take them I end up gagging and bringing them back up. This is totally unbearable, I so want to feel normal again. Looking to see if anyone else has gone thru this and/or any suggestions on how to get these pills down. Thanks in advance. 13. Check out PS web sites. Binge watch TV and remember you get one chance to heal don’t pick up anything too heavy and follow your docs instructions. Protien promotes healing and stay hydrated. Do not get on the scale without thinking your way at least 10 pounds more - swelling is awful. The pain is intense and emotionally a roller coaster Yet we chose this. The extra nice to your hubby - I know mine did not choose PS

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +

HW: 343, SW: 307, CW: 284. I had RNY on 4/15/19. I feel like I'm losing weight so slowly, but seeing what everyone else is experiencing, am relieved that this is more average than slow. I am glad so many of you are sharing your experience. It really helps out things in perspective.
  16. I have PCOS and was never able to lose anything significant and keep if off pre surgery. I have lost about 32 lbs since surgery on 3/12/19 and about 86 total since last July when I started with the surgeon's 6 month pre op diet. I believe the surgery did something to fix my hormones, metabolism, whatever involved with metabolic syndrome and PCOS. For the first time in 27 years I am below 200 lbs. I too was afraid the PCOS would not allow me to lose after surgery. And while at times it has seemed slow, I've averaged 4 lbs lost per week post surgery, which is really quite good. I believe if you follow the plan your team gives you, you will be successful. That's how I've approached this and I follow their advice and directions. I sometimes struggle to get enough water and those weeks I lose less it seems.

    Allowing for occasional treats

My doctor and NUT do not want me to be deprived. They feel there is a place and time for everything, dessert included. Their advice to me is to not make it an everyday thing and when I do have it, to include it with my meal. I am to have my protein first, my veggie and then instead of whatever carb I have with my dinner (half the time I can't even get to that point, I am so full) to have whatever that dessert is. 9 out of 10 times, I am only able to have a bite or 2 of it.

  21. My doctor's standard rule, 10% of excess weight, but a firm suggestion not an Iron-clad rule.
  22. In 2015, I was at my highest weight ever of 420 pounds. I had high BP, High Cholesterol, Acid Reflux, Sleep Apnea, and had just been told I was diabetic with a BS of 7.5. I didn't have insurance so I searched around and finally found Dr Dirk Rodriguez in Dallas, TX who would do my VSG for 10,000 cash. I had my VSG on 6/23/2015. After a few weeks recovery, I began walking then fast paced walking, I introduced intermittent jogging, then jogging with intermittent sprints, inclines, stairs. I started bicycling. I got to where I was jogging/running 5 miles a day and cycling another 5-10 miles a day, every day. I was going to a gym and doing some strength training, hitting the rowing machine, doing some kickboxing classes, etc. A little over a year later, I was down to my GW of 190 pounds. Every single one of those comorbidities....GONE!! No more medicines!! I swore that I would never regain that weight, I felt better than I had my entire life. But then reality set in, you see, that whole year that I was doing this extreme cardio and other exercising, I was living off of my savings, not working, so I had all the free time in the world to focus fully on losing the weight. But, then I had to get back to work, my savings was pretty much gone. I am a career crane operator, over 20 years, it's all I know and it pays very well. It is also a very sedentary job, just sitting in a crane all day for 12- 14 hours, 7 days a week. Needless to say, it gets boring. I began to snack (graze) throughout the day. I mostly still eat healthy, just too much, that coupled with the fact that I have no time for all of the intense exercise I was doing....I have regained about half of what I lost. I am now back up to 320 pounds. So, since I have no intentions, at 45 years old, of trying to change careers, I have decided to try a revision to the Mini Gastric Bypass. I am hoping that the restriction of the sleeve, coupled with the malabsorption of the bypass, as long as I keep eating healthy, even if it's a bit too much, it will even things out. I know that I need to work on the grazing habits. I also know that I need to try and make some time somehow to get in some kind of exercise, even if only 15 minutes a day. I am scheduled for my revision on June 15, 2019, almost exactly 4 years since my VSG. I will be going to Mexico this time simply because it is so much cheaper, but also because I know the standard of care down there, especially at Bariatricpal MX, is just as good, if not better, than most in the US. Also because the Mini Gastric Bypass is very common there, but not so much in the US. I will be using the very well known and highly recommended, Dr Jalil Illan. I can only hope that I will have as much success this second time as the first. I do consider my VSG a success, I just don't think it was the right procedure for my specific circumstances. Hopefully, with the MGB, I will be able to lose the weight again and keep it off long term this time. For anyone considering weight loss surgery....If fear is holding you back, find a way to get past it. It truly is a great tool. But it is just that, a TOOL, it is not a miracle cure for obesity, you must put in the work, make lifestyle changes, dietary changes, a lot of times it means social changes. A lot of people can be negative or become jealous because you are getting healthy and better looking and they are not. I say this, if those people are unwilling to support you in your efforts to do whatever it takes to be a healthier you, then they are not worthy of being in your life. I know that is a harsh reality but in the end, you need to do this for YOU. It is your life, not theirs. You are the one suffering from Obesity and all the myriad of illnesses and complications that come with it. Do you want to be able to play with your kids, your grandkids? To see them grow up? To see yourself live longer, healthier, happier? To be able to do all the things you have been dreaming of your whole life? Do you want to finally, truly LIVE?? Then do it. Don't let anyone stop you, don't let fear stop you, don't let insurance stop you. Definitely don't let YOU stop you. Get up! Take back your life! Fight for it! Good Luck. YOU'VE GOT THIS.
