    June surgery

June 2nd lap band to rny revision! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. So I had my follow up, he is sending me to the Cleveland clinic. My case is far to complicated. I should add prior to my sleeve I had a band, which was revised once. So I am a re-re-re- revision. He said his opinion is I need a second opinion. So I will wait. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Realistic Goals

I think the goal your doctor gave you was him/her being really lazy and not looking and listening to you. They just took the low end of the normal BMI from your height and that was it. Mine did similar - he told me I should weigh 140 for my height; I laughed at him. I told him I was normal sized in high school and didn't weigh in that low (wore a size 10-12). My goal weight is on the high side but I am already looking pretty decent and don't really want to go down to wear a size 6 or anything - I just want to be able to feel good and not shop in the plus sized sections any more and so far, that goal has been achieved, so the rest is just gravy. 22 BMI is LOW. I think your revised goal weight is much better and you'll look amazing and feel wonderful if you can get even in that neighborhood. And you've done a mindblowingly awesome job so far!
  4. I had the band place 2 ½ years ago, I had pretty good success the first year. I started to fly for my part time job and started having issues. My band slipped last April & I had to the go to the ER to have all my fill removed due to waking up chocking on my own secretions. I stayed with an empty band for almost year deciding what I wanted to do. I visited the surgeon - he confirmed the slip and I'm in the process of a revision. I had my lapband removed this morning and I revise to a RNY next month. I encourage you to look at the good, the bad & the ugly of all surgeries - some people have their bands for years and have great success. Some don't. But I can see why your surgeon doesn't like placing them.

    Mini Gastric Bypass Questions

Snuggy2 thank you so much! It really helped to read your experience. I am a teacher and there are very few who support my decision and more who share concerns with me especially because I am going out of the country. My first American ortho botched a hip replacement when I was 30 and I had a revision the next year that left my left leg shorter than my right. Got that fixed in 2009 in Washington. So medicine is not an exact science all the time.
  6. I am having stomach and abdominal discomfort in that area, which feels in a way like cramping. I've been having this for months. I actually want to go to the hospital to get it removed its really bad. I spoke with the doctor he said I should have an appointment but he doesnt want to get rid of it.. This seems strange if anything. Anyone have any advice? This seems really confusing. Would there be any steps I could take before I get rid of it?

What kind of results are people getting...

Someone might get revision from the lapband to the sleeve and only have 35 pounds to lose. What kind of weight loss results.
  8. Did your mom not ask why you weren't eating? It would have been an interrogation at my or my husbands parents house! I'm in the same boat - no one knows so I'm just avoiding them! I'm scheduled for 5/10 and in my pre-op diet phase now too. Doing a revision from band to sleeve. I get whatever Protein shakes and other sugar free liquids I want plus a half cup of cottage cheese and a cup of milk per day. Been living in Total Lean 25 shakes, Jello, and egg drop Soup the past 3 nights. First day was rough - but now it's no big deal. Good luck to all of you!!!
  9. Was this your first WLS or were you a revision? Are you getting in your Protein and fluids?

    Nerves

My revision is getting closer and closer! I have an upper GI tomorrow, psych eval today and they got my sleep study results back and I don't have any issues. I've been going to the support groups for the hospital as needed and whenever someone finds out I'm a revision from band they always assume that I hated my band. I don't think ppl understand how much I loved my band, it gave me a whole new life. I'm actually scared of getting the bypass Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Band to bypass

I'm almost 9 months out from the bypass, and I'm down 143 pounds. My blood work shows all levels are perfect and I feel amazing. I will say the first several months were tough, mostly in terms of finding foods that work and getting in enough calories. But now I'm doing really well and easily getting in the calories I need. I also had no complications, so generally I am very, very happy with my whole experience. I would recommend the bypass if you have a significant amount to lose, or if you want the extra accountability (I did and do, and it's honestly made transitioning into this healthy lifestyle so easy). You'll get good results with either. I chose the bypass for the above reasons and because so very many sleevers end up revisioning to bypass anyway... why go under the knife twice? Why risk the gerd/acid reflux? It was worth going the extra mile, in my case. Hope this experience helps you. Edit: I either have never dumped or only had one experience that was so mild that I can't even tell if it was dumping... if you follow your food plan closely and try new things carefully, it's not even a problem.

    Surgery Date!

When he told me the band was a much better option, I was like WTF!!!!! I'm like he wouldn't dare say that to the score of people that have HAD to have revision. He's a great surgeon, don't get me wrong. Top notch hospital and all that. But I refuse to do the band. Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

    Doctor Discouraged Lap Band Procedure

hmmm im five years out, dealing with a severe slip. that will require another surgery in the morning, to hopefully reposition to band. if i had it to do over i would choose another surgery with lower complication rates. if i had the option financially i would revise to something else. Sent from my SM-S820L using the BariatricPal App
  17. @mmy I'm so SO sorry you have had this experience, how traumatic. I think that it was borderline negligent of your surgeon to discuss changing procedures with you on the day of surgery rather than allow you the time to think it over. Having said that, I too have read that the sleeve can be less effective in some circumstances, but I think the level of complication for both procedures is similar - just different. I think what is important for you now is to focus on the future. I KNOW how hard that is. I am 2 weeks post op gastric bypass (revision from failed band taken out 3 months ago). I didn't vomit blood but I did have a very tough first week (see other posts of mine) and on day 3/4/5 had MASSIVE buyers remorse (as a lot of people do). I can tell you though, that even though it was (and still is some days) a struggle for various reasons (getting enough Protein in, nausea, fatigue, etc), I am now glad I had the courage to do this. I am a similar BMI to you and super happy to be down 20 pounds already. I have a 3 year old and I want him to grow up knowing me as a fit an healthy mother. I know its hard but hang in there. I suspect you would have been going through "buyers remorse" no matter what procedure you had - sleeve or bypass. But, you have the bypass now so get excited and start visualizing the new YOU. TRUST ME.... you WILL feel better, and quickly.... both emotionally and physically. Big hugs to you.

    Surgery Date!

Congratulations!!!! Are you excited, nervous, scared lol all of the above??? Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App All of the above! Lol my surgeons office is submitting my file to insurance this week so I'm more nervous about that right now!! Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I know the feeling. We submit tomorrow. I have put so much into this, I'd be unhappy if they denied. But they are pretty straightforward with what they are looking for. Praying and fingers crossed for us. Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App Yay!!! Let me know when you hear!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Everything went well, met with the nutritionist. Got my list of approved foods/liquids. Coordinator says she will submit either today or tomorrow and it should be approved no problem as everything they ask for is checked off. Only concerning point is my surgeon is really against me doing the sleeve. He prefers the band. Told me I'd likely gain all the weight back. It was very off putting and almost made me change my mind back to band. Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App Wow. That baffles me. My surgeon hasn't done a band in over 2 years. He has seen better results with the sleeve. It almost sounds like your surgeon has an ulterior motive for pushing the band. Stand your ground girl. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Lol yeah it's because fills are self pay. What a nice way to rack up a ton of money from me and then bring me back in after a year so for revision to sleeve or bypass. It's a money thing purely. I've read too many reviews from people who had band and done research. I'm not setting myself up for failure to lime your pockets. Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App
  19. Thanks everyone, I've certainly not been doing as well as you guys!!! I'm 2 weeks post op and have just been pottering around the house and walking up to the street to get milk most days! My first week post op was pretty damn awful - I'm not sure I could have found my way to the mailbox let alone walk 5 miles!! I'm a band to bypass revision and had quite a lot of scar tissue dug out of me too so not sure if that has slowed my recovery a little too? I have been using my Fitbit to keep track of my steps and trying to get 500 more in every day to ensure an increase in activity level every day. I return to work next Tuesday and don't want to be taking naps at lunch time in my car LOL Well done to you all though - pretty awesome effort considering what your bodies have been through...... And congrats on all of your weight loss - simply amazing!!
  20. Hi everyone.. I haven't been here for quite awhile, but I am now seriously considering revision surgery from my second llap-band to sleeve. My first band was put in in 2006. I initially lost 35 pounds but then plateaued there for years. In 2014, I had that band removed becauyse of band slippage and a new band was put in. Since then, I haven't lost any weight at all, and have gained about 15 pounds in all. My question is one of approval. Has anyone had experience with insurance for band-to sleeve revision with a BMI of under 35? I also have co-mobidities of severe sleep apnea, high blood pressure & triglycerides, and now my doctor is concerned with my latest sugar level over a three month span. Since my BMI is only 31, I anticipate a fight with my insurance carrier. Hopefully I may be able to get a revision based upon lap band failure. There is a clause that says if no significant weight loss is achieved with banding, it is considered a failed procedure. I have an appt with surgeon who did 2nd band on May 24. I want to be as prepared as possible. Anyone here in a similar place with revision approval? Thanks so much!!!
  21. It could be insurance thing but my doctor also did if my stomach looked "angry" he wouldn't do revision. Just had two week post op visit I'm down 16 Better than going up! Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

    Band to bypass yesterday

@@Sheriberi Congrats on going through it and new beginning... Sorry you are not feeling well, I am sure it will get better... Hope the mass is really nothing to worry about... Did you have any pains or Anthony before that would indicate tubing being tucked in or the mass? Just curious... It's interesting what they find when they go in there... I am due for revision on 13th... Hope you feel better!

    Time is ticking away!

Congrats and best to you. My visit was Monday for May 17 surgery. I agree there is a lot to take in, and the part about open procedure option made me nervous. I am having a revision an had open last time and did not want to go that route again, but with my past WLS problems, what ever it takes. I felt much better talking to surgeon and PA that they have done many of these revisions, and only with excessive bleeding (3% of time) do they have to go open.
